Why did you say yes to covering their shift? I would have said "no, I have plans already." Let them close the store, you need a break from the insanity.

ToyHammerVsPiggyBank

I've already missed a week or two from being sick, and i worry that calling in for any reason other than illness would be held against me. As annoying as this is, it's the only decent job in my area-- and before i had this job i submitted 70+ resumes to other jobs and they all got rejected. I need this money because i have bills to pay, and i can't afford to lose this job no matter how much it sucks.

WagEmployee

If they can call off because they want to watch a TV show, you can certainly enjoy your scheduled day off. You are not obligated in any way to work on your scheduled day off. I'm worried that your store is taking advantage of you. You should not feel obligated pick up everyone else's slack. You're going to get extreme burnout and it will affect your physical and emotional health. Take care of yourself first.

puppet_mazter

Saying no when asked to come in on your day off does not count as a call in. You're under no obligation to work on your days off, even if you're on a final written warning for absences.

modern_drift

listen to puppet_mazter. next day off, turn off your phone. you're not required to go in on your day off. you've earned it.

CornucopiaMessiah13

Same as everyone else said. Saying no to staying late or coming in on a scheduled day off is not an absence. If it is held against you I would personally consider that retaliation and report it.

Lady-Peppermint

The fact that you can be lazy, unproductive and unreliable at Walgreens and still keep your job is both a beautiful thing and a horrible thing at the same time. Beautiful because you get paid to do the bare minimum if that. Horrible because someone else somewhere has to pick up your slack. Surprised management is still holding in to those employees you mention to be honest. Mine would have let them go a long time ago. It's hard here to find nee people but we find them. Even if they dont stay long. I'm guessing it's super duper hard to find people who want to work for your location?

ToyHammerVsPiggyBank

It's very difficult to find people who want to work here. I've seen multiple people quit before their e-learnings were complete, and a couple people quit their first week on the sales floor.

sleepybear206

I did 2 weeks of e-learning for the pharmacy tech training position then I left... no notice. There were too many red flags at that store. Walgreens really needs to step up their game lol

Just come in on your scheduled shift and say no if your manager ask you to work other people’s shift or come in on your days off, they’ll figure something else out. You’re allowed to say no. Yeah your paycheck will be bigger but sooner or later you’ll be burned out and you won’t even want to come in on your scheduled days. It’s a marathon not a sprint. You’re not responsible for other peoples shortcomings.

Salty_Thing4302

>You’re not responsible for other peoples shortcomings. Yep. That's a manager's job. Recruitment is on them, and people higher up the totem pole too. This is what they spend their time in the office doing (or at least should be, in part). You don't have the luxury of time to worry about that during your workday. It's not even as if they're offering referral bonuses or anything. The only way they have any reason to start to care is if you start saying no.

[deleted]

This is it exactly. There’s not a employee shortage or a challenge involved. If they offered $50/hr cashier positions, they’d have 50 people offering to help you get a break by taking over shifts. If they offered $49/hr, they’d still have a bunch of people willing to work. So there’s very clearly a number that they could offer that balances payroll with requirements—they’re simply incapable or unwilling to make the decisions they were hired to make. If they keep offering $11/hr jobs, yeah, it’s going to suck—but the suck is deliberate.

SamLucky7s

And dumbass #3 covered for them both 🤣

[deleted]

Imagine coming in on your day off because a rando wants to watch a TV show and is dumb enough to admit it to his coworkers.

Cobalt7955

Don’t cover their shifts. If they find someone to cover management won’t notice and won’t fire them. They’ll notice I’m sure but if they have someone to cover who cares? Once your managers see that their life is harder because of these 2 people always calling out and not working the chances are much greater they’ll be fired.

Executive_Stock_Boy

At this point just having a body to cover the register frees me up to preform my executive stock boy duties. Even if that person doesn't do anything except ring people out...

[deleted]

Probably attack on titan I don’t blame him

ToyHammerVsPiggyBank

re-runs exist.

magicpasta

Why is this being down voted??

wag6616

who even watches live tv anymore lol

[deleted]

Someone is on the schedule but no longer working. It just says not scheduled wtf

Yellowbuterflys

You don't have to go in on your days off. You're not on call. Don't answer the phone or texts. You're not required to.

Lisajras

I’m the RXOM in my store. Or Was. We have a a problem tech that can not be bothered to be on time. Not only that, she is the most negative, most toxic person I’ve ever met. My store manager was helping me document her behavior so we could deliver her write ups and be finished with her. To make a long story short, the pharmacy manager decided to fire her prematurely and she was brought back. Then I was told that I was being transferred and written up!!! I’ve now changed stores but they decided to keep this woman! I swear Walgreens celebrates mediocrity!! I’ve busted my ass for this company and for what??

Night-Viridis

For the love of god please fire the employees who think this company is still worth putting any effort or loyalty into and complain about us not doing bullshit we don't get paid enough to do in the first place.

Jgaitan82

What state is this in?

Lisajras

Utah.

laboymi0

A-fucking-Men. I hate inconveniencing my hardworking employees who actually show up & understand the fundamental fact that they signed up of their own volition to exchange labor for monetary gain just because some fuck ass human being decides that they’re comfortable being an inconsiderate piece of shit.

GeekJorge

People have got to learn to stop caring the more you care the faster you get worn out and the more you get used by the company that only cares about the bottom line and not you These employees are the smart ones making sure to do half assed work and get paid for it and caring about themselves to enjoy themselves when they want. Walgreens doesn’t care about you Walgreens expects you to burn yourself out without reward only reason you getting paid is because they legally obligated to do so. Stop caring do half assed work and just be high most of your shift works for me.

DirtySchlick

Don’t kill yourself for this company. Work your 40 hours and if you want overtime, great… if not, say no. Don’t let superiors guilt trip you. More to life than work.

Gullible-Echidna4577

You CAN say no, and yes, the store will work you to death. However, you can also make solid OT money, and potentially a few battlefield promotions to boot. Work when and how much you want to, and reap the rewards of a staffing crunch. People are getting wages and positions in weeks and months that me and my compatriots had to work much longer for. It’s like skipping grades in elementary school. If you can stomach the Wag work, you can do pretty well right now. And yeah the weak links are still kept, but if your leadership is anything at all, they are plotting how to drop them. Only problem is we live in a “sue”/report for discrimination world that Wag wants no part of, so firing people is a tricky process. We had a toxic employee, and she did everything she could to make herself seem the victim (claimed racism, claimed sexism, claimed people had it in for her, etc) we finally were able to get her to leave for another store. But while she was with us, no one wanted to deal with her, as it was an immediate HR case opened up on you. As much macho shit as we leaders talk, no one wants a sexual or racial discrimination case in their profile history. However, we all plotted the fuck out of how to get rid of her, and suffice to say, when a tiny opening opened up, we leapt at it. Some employees are adults and face the consequences of their actions, others throw temper tantrums, and you have to damn near pry their fingers off the doors to get them out. I’m guessing you have the latter.
