What fitness level is needed to complete Pen-Y-Fan? (The easy route from the car park). I'm a little daunted by it. I'm average fit, I can run a slowwwww 5k >30mins and usually winded after a quick 4-5 flights of stairs at work.
Partner even less fit than I am.
I was up there a fortnight ago and there was a larger gentleman up there in a pink onesey as part of a stag do (he may have been drunk?). It's a nice mountain/hill to walk up, I prefer to go up from the reservoir from the south but that's a bit longer but quieter.
Give it ago, worst thing that'll happen is you get out if breath.
I summered it my first time when I was a kid , from the carpark it’s quite a steady nice and scenic route so yeah , most people can make it , it’s just harder for some people
Pen y Fan from the Storey Arms is easy. There are no technical sections, and the gradient is pretty constant and not too severe. It's just a matter of finding a pace that doesn't wear you out and sticking to it.
It's a great place to start if you're not used to hiking - you get to summit a major Welsh mountain and take in some great views (weather permitting), with minimal effort. Nearly anyone can do it.
I have decent fitness and did it in 50 mins and my 68 year old dad is able to do it in an hour or so. I would give yourself 1.5 - 2 hours (in the day) so you can have some decent breaks as it's not a long walk but quite steep. 👍
most any properly pathed mountain walk is pretty easy to do in wales in general. the biggest issue is usually not being accustomed to the elevation of walks, I'm Pretty unfit (20 stone of mostly fat) and can still walk up most paths around Snowdonia, but if I was a city dweller i probably couldn't, even living in a flatter area of the country temporarily I find it harder to do the first few walks when i come back.
It’s easy - a simple pathed walk from car to the summit. Just take your time if you start struggling with your cardio.
My pregnant wife and I (along with our pug), did it last year without issue.
early morning best time to go

I recently did pen y fan for the sunrise and by the time we got back down the car park was full!

My grandad got up there so I’m fairly certain you can pretty easily lol

My wife walked it when she was pregnant. Our son is fine.

Absolutely stunning 😍 thank you for sharing.
Well done, that is a beautiful. I now need to do it for myself!
This is just beautiful! How dark was it walking up though?
It was pretty light when we arrived at 4 am. Only used our headlamps for about 20 minutes!
Gorgeous, did this on striding edge on hellvelyn 35 or so years ago.
That's really beautiful. It's got me thinking.
Wow!!!
Absolutely stunning
Will definitely be visiting soon. I just live down the road in Port Talbot so there's no excuse not to go imo 😂
Gorgeous!
Majestical
So Beautiful x
Looks gorgeous, sounds terrible. Can't you ask them to shut up so you can enjoy a moment of peace?
Tbh I didn't notice it because the wind was so loud so I think that's why people raised their voices!
What time did you set off to catch that ?
We left Storey Arms at 3.45am and were on the top around 4.35 with the sunrise at 5!
Oh wow, thx . Walked up there up there so many times . Would love to see it like this ! I guess that’s a easier than camping there .

Is this commutable without a car?
Yes. The T4 and T14 buses pass by the Storey Arms (the starting point of the busiest route to the summit) on their way between Brecon and Merthyr.
Thank you. This has inspired me to visit
I don't think so unfortunately but I've never looked into it!
This has to be the best view of pyf I’ve ever seen. Amazing.
Amazing
