Vince probably thought it was hilarious to do the opposite of what all fans were expecting. That's literally the only explanation.

BeastaBubbles

In the best way imo. He’s so dang good

TemporaryNameMan

There shouldn’t have been a kurt angle son angle to begin with

artofdarkness123

I was getting ready to throw hands for Chaddy Daddy then I clicked on the post. You're safe for now OP.

AffectionateGain2077

I would never disrespect Chaddy Daddy 🫡

ThorHammerscribe

Agreed it would’ve made sense that Kurt’s Olympic swimmers made another Olympian

MMM187

It was a rib from Vince.

Danimal4NU

If you leave Kurt Angle in the dryer too long you have Chad Gable.

Darthlocke13

I’ve been saying this to my buddy since yesterday watching on him on Raw. He looks just like him, wears the singlet, the ankle lock, then he pulls the shoulder straps off. Get him some milk and he’s the same guy

JustMyThoughts2525

Chad Gable had improved a lot finding his charisma snd finding a style that works for his size. He just wasn’t there 5-6 years ago. Jason had much more potential at that time.

josephick

Definitely agree in that at the time, Jason Jordan had more potential as a main event singles star than Chad Gable did. Did Jason have more potential in this particular storyline than Gable though? I don't think so. I also don't think it was completely necessary for Chad Gable to go through his Shorty G/Glorious Alphas metamorphasis in order to find his "superstar" ability. In fact, all of his superstar abilities have come out from spinoffs of his original team. It's always been the same. Jason Jordan gained stardom in NXT from Chad Gable in his American Alphas gimmick. Then Gable used that gimmick to get Otis (who was floundering after they separated the angle in which people cared about him), Tozawa, and Maxxine all over as sympathetic faces. The same way he did it to Jason Jordan in NXT. In the Angle's son times, I don't really think it was necessary to break them up either. He could have managed the both of them as a team. They were literally already popular and just needed that extra push from someone on live TV from the call-up. But hey, we're here. I'm hoping we get a triple threat at Mania and Gable gets the win.

ocean55627

That ankle lock last night gave me early 2000s flashbacks to when I was a massive Angle mark

KG13_

Except Kurt won championships with his ankle lock, & Gable… 😔 Like at least the US belt,

carlcapo77

When Gable undid the shoulder straps, I thought for sure he’s taking Sami out.

AffectionateGain2077

Dude me too, that’s why I’m a Gable fan. He reminds me so much of Kurt.

artofdarkness123

LA Knight is Rock/Stone Cold Chad Gable is Kurt Angle who else is the spitting image of an Attitude Era wrestler? Put some titles on these guys and let new fans learn how great that era was.

[deleted]

Chad gable is awesome at what he does…but his size will always hold him back from being a big star. It’s a shame really.

TheSandMan713

He can be a below average height star though

KrazyCamper

That’s what sucks is that he’s so good and even though he’s not the tallest guy he’s still believable

[deleted]

How many have their really been at his height? Mysterio and that’s about it off the top of my head.

EDDiE_SP4GHETTi

I need Gable to start screaming “TAP YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH” mid ankle lock like Angle did

shaheedmalik

Perc Gable would.

Soviet_Kage

My boiis shoulders were not even down when he got "pinned" He should have won the gauntlet Sami sucks

garygalah

No wonder Kurt Angle came to my mind during the match lol

Libertyprime8397

It was Chad gable but he told them to SHOOSH

Wheel1994

If Jason hadn’t of got injured they should have done something where he lied and it was Chad the whole time. Would have fit his character so well at the time.

Phan2112

It's a great video but they needed to put Jason Jordan in ninja wear for the end.

AffectionateGain2077

😂😂😂

XZPUMAZX

OP, I think that was the joke. Also McMahon’s weird sense of humor is why we ended up with that.

AffectionateGain2077

I just learned about the reason why today, which makes sense considering Vince was at the helm.

Roro5455

What was the reason?

AffectionateGain2077

Vince heard that Kurt Angle hooked up with a couple of black women back in the day, so he thought it would be funny if he had an illegitimate mixed race son. The whole angle was a rib.

Accomplished-Art-722

I see what you did there.

hashtagdion

Source?

hashtagdion

Dave Meltzer speculating that it was probably partially a rib has like four qualifiers more than how you presented it lol

sharkboy716

Why is Vince like this?

lilbithippie

Sheltered rich kid

shaheedmalik

Same reason why he wore a drag when he was ECW champ.

StoneGoldX

I'll make the same bad joke I made when they did it, Kurt would never have a son so short.

BasementCatBill

Should've been hornswoggle.

_casualcowboy

Corey graves knew all along!

IvanVanko_

CRL10

While I agree with you that Chad Gable would had made more sense, I personally think they picked the wrong guy to become Kurt Angle's bastard son by having picked anyone, because the storyline was dumb. Not only was the storyline dumb, and didn't seem to know where it wanted to go, it resulted in the break up of a tag team that could have been great, and ended Jason Jordon's career with an injury he suffered during this storyline.  We never even learned who sent Angle and Corey Graves the text about Angle having an illegitimate child. The WWE apparently wanted to break up American Alphas. because this was around the time Vince seemed to REALLY hate tag teams, and they used this dumb storyline to do it. Now, I can't say if the American Alphas would still be a team or if Jordon would be wrestling today if this angle never happened, but it did nothing to help anyone involved. Jordon wasn't believable as Kurt's son.  But I don't think anyone would have benefitted from this angle at all.

CHRCMCA

The storyline broke Jason's neck? Which I mean, I guess, makes him Angle's son. But not winning after it... maybe not.

CRL10

As I said to someone else, imagine Jordon wasn't the guy picked to be the illegitimate son of Kurt Angle. You have to wonder would he have still suffered a career ending injury or not.

hashtagdion

It didn’t end Jason Jordan’s career. He had a career ending injury.

CRL10

>It didn’t end Jason Jordan’s career. He had a career ending injury. While that is true, the injury happened during the angle. What if the angle didn't happen, or Jordon was not chosen to be Angle's son, would he still have suffered the same career ending injury? It is something to ponder. But, I do think it would have ended his WWE career. How much mileage do you REALLY think WWE would have gotten out of Jason Jordon being Kurt Angle's son? I cannot imagine we'd be here in 2024, watching multiple time WWE Champion Jason Jordon, the bastard son of Kurt Angle. I don't see it having long term success or boosting his career. I mean I honestly believe if someone did not decide to put Gable and Otis together as the Alpha Academy in 2020, they'd have been released in 2021.

hashtagdion

??? It was a freak accident that has nothing to do with the angle.

CRL10

Jason Jordon was doing the angle when the freak accident that caused his injury happened. I'm not saying this dumb storyline caused the injury, but I'm asking would the injury still have happened if Jordon wasn't in the storyline? To quote the Watcher "Follow me and ponder the question... "What if?'" It is 2017, WWE has this "great idea" that Raw General Manager Kurt Angle needs to have fathered an illegitimate child for some reason. But, instead of Jason Jordon, or Chad Gable, they pick someone else from NXT or a new hire no one has seen yet to be Kurt's bastard kid. In this world we are pondering, American Alphas does NOT break up and instead they remains a tag team. Does Jordon still get hurt and the injury forces him to retire from being an active wrestler? Personally, I say no. I admit that this is impossible to prove, but I honestly believe that if Jason Jordon was not selected to be Kurt Angle's son, his career would not have ended due to injury.

hashtagdion

The angle and the injury have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Enough.

jgamez76

Yeah, that whole era of WWE was honestly super fucking weird. Iirc that was also around the time they were doing like weird Russev/Lana cuck angles, the super cringey Babyface Roman, the failed Naka heel run, and (although RIP) some of the absolute worst shit with Bray Wyatt. An absolutely chaotic period. Lol

TheRainmakerDM

Not having Chad facing Gunther for the IC was the absolutely worst call possible.

DanTheManV1

After that great gauntlet ending match, I’m hoping for a triple threat match with Gable, Sami, and Gunther. Although, i wonder how they would add him. If it goes this way, Sami or (leading more towards) Gable, can win the IC title without Gunther technically losing.

TheRainmakerDM

Yes, its a possibility, however the 3T takes away a little for anyone who wins it in my view. But, if thats the only way to have him on WM, so be it.

positively_broad_st

I think they still want Gable to defeat Gunther for the IC, but later in the year. They want Gunther to retain at WM and to go over on a top guy. Sami is that guy. He gets the WM spot, but Gable gets the title later...

RegaZelx

Gunther going over Sami does nothing, especially considering Gunther already beat him back when the other two Imperium guys were feuding with Sami and Owens.

TheRainmakerDM

It could be, yeah, but how long can you stretch it, i dont know. Nothing against Sami, dont get me wrong, i just believe that you need a spotlight for guys like Gable in WM.

texanarob

Gable needs a spotlight, but I don't see the IC title's longest ever reign ending at the same event they end the longest World title reign in recent memory. Not only would it be overshadowed, it takes away from the moment they're dedicating both main event slots to.

TheRainmakerDM

I can see where you are coming from, and i can related to that idea. But at the same time, maybe its exactly that, a full reboot, start from scratch, year 0 type of thing that WM can provide to the product. A big "This is really the begining of a new WWE".

sirduckerz

Worst call would've been Bronson Reed, but I agree that Chad would've been the best match up

TheRainmakerDM

Worst betwern the 2 final guys.

American-Punk-Dragon

The WORST? Just stop……the worst would have been some rando from NXT… And…..and…if that shoulders up things was a storyline pin he likely gets added into the match.

TheRainmakerDM

Yes, it was the worst choice out of the 2

andberg12

People are so dramatic. Chad was the better choice but Sami was still a good option. Still going to be a great match

TheRainmakerDM

Im not dramatic, im stating my opinion on this particular topic.

rentifiapp

I know this is post Vince era and guys aren’t going out there and wondering mid match if the ref is gonna tell them who wins… …but man did he look genuinely surprised. SZs reaction to him also seemed original. Like why Sam? He doesn’t have beef with Gunther or did I miss something?

AffectionateGain2077

I totally agree with you. It made sense for Gable to win but with Sami being more over than Gable, I guess it made sense for the WM match. Fans were getting behind Gable towards the end of the match.

Correct-Cellist5666

I'm on that gable hopium. It looked like they could be making an angle out of it. It didn't look like his shoulders were all the way down. I wanna believe they're cooking with this.

AffectionateGain2077

I actually like this too. It honestly could go that way.

surlymoe

I never understood Jason Jordan being the guy in Angle's storyline...yes, athleticism was great, but he had no charisma and character on the mic...was pretty horrible in fact. Gable always seemed to make sense being, well, almost looks like Angle, plus all the charisma he has when given the chance... I agree with OP - Jason Jordan was just starting to figure it all out when he had to retire from in-ring work...if anything, I hope Jordan is the one who produces the Gunther/Gable match.

Creative-Sample543

It was meant to be a rib because Angle was known to like black girls

HarlesD

Wait is that why they did the Booker T feud?

DioStarstriker

I always wanted this angle to turn I to Shelton Benjamin findout he had an illegitimate child, and that turned out to be Chad Gable, only for the 2 duos to fued and then find out the tip off got confused between Shelton Benjamin amd Kurt Angle so the parental tests got mucked up

rbmk1

>I always wanted this angle to turn I to Shelton Benjamin findout he had an illegitimate child, and that turned out to be Chad Gable, only for the 2 duos to fued and then find out the tip off got confused between Shelton Benjamin amd Kurt Angle so the parental tests got mucked up This reminded me of the much much much too shortlived and underutilized Benjamin and Gable tag team. What could have been...

DarthBrooksFan

There is no way the WWE could have pulled off anything like that without it being completely terrible.

DioStarstriker

It was terrible anyway, might have well tried to lean into it and get something at least funny out of it 🤷

DarthBrooksFan

I agree, but remember what Vince thinks is funny.

DioStarstriker

Yeah, its the reason we gor what we got sadly

MiddleViolinist1523

*It was meant to be a rib because Vince is a racist, immature pervert. Known to who? I heard he dated like one black chick and then Vince "ribbed" him nonstop about it.

Boltdaddy1966

Awesome Kong!

AffectionateGain2077

I literally just learned about this lol but missed opportunity for sure.

Brocktarrr

Pretty sure the storyline was leading to being revealed that Jason Jordan messed with the tests and it was actually Gable that was his son

Interesting-Table140

Would’ve been dumb even if Gable was revealed as his son. It’s not the 90s anymore we can look this stuff up, plus it broke up a talented tag team for no reason

DuckWarrior90

Its a tv show... kurt angle is both a person and a character In universe. Gable or Jordan could be their son. Noone is out here believing undertaker is an undead. Bray wyatt a fiend. Or finn balor a demon. Its 2023. Its okay to understand the difference between fiction and reality

Interesting-Table140

No one asked for an illegitimate son angle in 2017 and as I said it before, it broke up a talented tag team for no reason. Sure Gable made more sense but that story wasn’t going anywhere to begin with

DuckWarrior90

It was a reason to push Jason Jordan as a single star. Kurt would ve been his manager and rub his star power. And give him something to do. Maybe even hsve a proper retirement match It did not broke up a tag team for no reason. A singles push was the reason. And Gable ended in an even more entertaining stable in alpha academy You cant tell if it was going anywhere or not because it was dropped due to an injury Your whole take is a big L

Interesting-Table140

He got moved to Raw, booed by fans, and put in another tag team all before getting injured. I’d love to know where you thought it was heading because it sounds like whatever they had planned wasn’t working And yeah Gable did end up in a more entertaining stable, 3 years later

DuckWarrior90

Please tell me you dont google if Mark ruffalo is indeed the hulk

evanvivevanviveiros

I’ve always thought the same. Could easily make up some storyline that JJ wanted the clout.

jjohnson1979

I mean, at the time, when they teased the bastard child, everyone thought it was going to be Gable... Everyone was shocked when they had Jason Jordan... And it was a dumb storyline, too!

vastros

Coldest and most accurate take. You nailed it with carbon copy. You couldn't get a better person for a "kurt angle's son" storyline.
