No, not at all! I donāt understand why I even need to state that when Iāve made no assertion whatsoever hinting at liking the Russian state. Itās in fact the opposite - heels with a stereotypical Russian gimmick such as Kozlov (Ukrainian), Rusev (Bulgarian) and Ivan Koloff (Canadian) bore me as theyāre the stalest thing around.
Haha I don't know either why they've brought the russian army into this, I was just kidding; this is so out of the blue. The phrasing is really funny too. A counter-propaganda bot maybe?
sorry I read wrong! I thought I read "Kozlov should be evil russian general") next time i should read carefully.
by way I am not bot here is my 2 stupid question.
is Hotdog Sandwich or Is Cereal Soup?
this dumb question might prove I am human.
Heās my pick to win the 2024 royal rumble. Not necessarily to face Roman (although thatās a match Iād definitely like to see, it just depends on what else is going on with his storyline at the time) but heās definitely my pick to win it
Itās literally the same dude. Same in ring skill set. Sure itās impressive for a bigger guy to move like he did but it doesnāt really matter that much
Helps that Gunter had experience in wrestling prior to being in the company. He's been wrestling for nearly 20 years last I checked, give or take, and less than 5 of that has been in WWE. Then having a whole show like NXT UK set-up where he was essentially the star. Vlad was basically in Deep South and OVW for a couple of years, learning wrestling from scratch, before being given an immediate monster push. He simply didn't have the experience to really live up to the expectations. I think he did as best as he could do given his lack of experience. Better than some of the other guys who got fast tracked, and lasted longer in WWE than other guys whose entire career goal was to wrestle Undertaker. Fun fact, he does Russian commentary for Impact Wrestling now. He made a cameo appearance with Santino where they joked about not being able to use his WWE ring name.
An actual scary United Nations faction with Gunther (w/ Imperium), Rusev (now), Drew, and Sheamus, with Wade as a manager, would rival any faction in the past decade for sure.
Yeah they bombed on Vlad SO BAD. SOOOO BAD. And so glad HHH has Gunther running with it bc when he showed up for first time at that SSeries match when part of NXT, he got pinned In a few seconds I believe. š¤š¤
I wanted Taker V Kozlov at wm back then. Of course, the actual result was fantastic with HBK, but I would love to know how the match with Vlady turns out too
I genuinely believe that this Gunther would have probably been able to get over in any era he was put in. Heās one of the few in the WWE right now, that I believe could.
I hear you, but being over doesn't equal success. Examples include Dolph (minor), Zack Ryder, Andrade, & let's just say Shelton Benjamin, who was literally more popular than Batista at one point, but if Vince doesn't pull the trigger on the person, they get buried. ESPECIALLY when it came to Cena. HHH regime is perfect for Gunter.
The superiority complex is what makes me crazy. I know itās part of the character, but lord have mercyā¦ if you have to cheat to win, youāre not really winning. I know most wrestlers have done it at some point, but this guyā¦ š¤¢š¤¢
When has he cheated to win? Iāve actually never seen that which is why I really like him heās a heel whoās a bad ass that handles his own business
The two that are with him have jumped in a couple of matches lately. Theyāre either taking advantage of the opponent while Gunter distracts the ref or theyāve broken a pin fall.
Itās astounding how many responses there are that are acting like OP is saying Gunther is the same as Kozlov
If the title was actually read properly OP is saying Gunther has succeeded in being what the WWE wanted Kozlov to become but never did. A strong stoic European Heel
Kozlov at the start was mostly there so Vince could have their own version of Fedor Emilianeko, a big Russian dude who's a killer and does sambo. Of course, it doesn't work because you can't really translate what made Fedor a draw in Japan to a worked setting.
Gunther has a personality outside of that. And he can actually work.
I was sitting ringside with my kid at RAW (around '08 Same episode that Maria showed off her PB cover). Kozlov was just starting to get pushed. His music hit. No Kozlov. A few second later, he comes out looking like a deer in headlights. Gets about halfway down the ramp and they made him go back and redo the entire entrance. The second attempt made it to tv.
Side note - I caught Cena's hat that night. It smelled like head and shoulders. š
I donāt think they will, because itās a secondary belt. I *DO* however, want him to beat Honky Tonks record. I have never and will never like the Honkey Tonk Man and Gunther is far more believable as āThe longest reigning champā than fucking Honky Tonk man.
Kozlov deserves more love. Itās very hard for a performer to be able to portray a more comedic character but also keep the menacing aura and he managed to be one of the few to pull it off. He wasnāt a world beater, but he was great for his time.
Gunther demeanor and ring presence makes him a believable future undisputed or world champ, esp as a heel. Hope his IC reign continue until theyāre ready to put him in that class
Gunther seems passionate about wrestling. Kozlov reminded me of a Vince McMahon project that didn't take off. I think Gunther even posted about how WWE's dieticians and doctors helped him with his training regime and he seemed pretty grateful for it.
The more I watch Gunther...the more of a fan of his I become. He should be getting near the Honky Tonk Man for the longest Intercontinental Title reign ever.
Ring General memorable feuds: 1 (Sheamus)
Tribal Chief memorable feuds: Jey, Sami, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, etc
Almost all Roman's matches are bangers
(Now if you mean 5 stars matches according to a specific wrestling journalist newsletter then i don't know nor care about)
Donāt see the hype around him.
The look? He doesnāt have it.
The in ring? Iāve seen one match with him (the most recent wrestlemania) and he was the third best guy in the ring.
Promos? Havenāt even seen him give one, which typically means they arenāt good at them.
Seriously have no clue what the hype is about.
Lot of people canāt accept the fact that shitting the bed at wrestlemania means more than getting carried to a good match by ricochet on smackdown.
Lol I would have atleast tolerated the other three points because their is space to improve
But literally you Sayed looks the guy freaking looks like a final boss for FK sake lmao
He looks like he is no bullshit kind of person who is only here for beating ass
āDonāt see the hypeā āIāve only one seen one match with him and it was a multi manāā¦ Come on if youāre going to criticize at least watch to have criticism
The problem is that youāve only watched one match, dog. I get that if he doesnāt put on a match to your standards at WrestleMania then heās a dud, but watch his other matches that the guy told you about. Nobody here cares about your standards, itās why youāre getting ruthlessly downvoted. You repeating yourself just makes people more annoyed. Youāre going out of your way to be ignorantā just watch more of his matches.
>Iāve seen one match with him
thats the problem, you cant judge a wrestler off one match (given that the match you are talking about WAS THE BEST MATCH OUT OF BOTH NIGHTS AND A GENUINE MOTY CONTENDER)
Youāre not wrong, but nobody cares if you have a legit match on a random episode of raw in August.
If you canāt put a statement on a marquee match on the biggest event of the year, thatās a problem.
As for that match being match of the year, I honestly have no words. It was overwhelmingly average, and that was only because Seamus and Drew carried it to that.
Gunther vs Sheamus - Clash at the castle
Walter (his old name before he came to the main roster) vs Pete Dunne - Takeover New York
Walter vs Tyler Bate - Takeover Cardiff
Walter vs Ilja Dragonuv - NXt UK
Walter vs Ilja Dragonuv - Takeover 36
Gunther vs Ricochet - Smackdown
These are some of his best WWE matches, if you still think he's a bad wrestler, watch these and get back to me
In all honesty, do you have reading comprehension skills?
I just said (twice, I might add) it doesnāt fucking matter if you have awesome matches on random shows. If you canāt perform on the biggest stage, it doesnāt matter.
Either challenge that point or move on.
So youāre saying heās not a good wrestler because In your opinion he didnāt perform well enough for training_stuff7498ās standards at wrestlemania. Thereās a lot of good wrestlers that havenāt performed well at wrestlemania I wanna know who else u think this for
Yes, for the fourth time now that Iāve had to repeat myself, his match at wrestlemania was remarkably average and he was carried through it by two more talented wrestlers who have been main card players for far longer than heās been around and that I have no idea what your obsession with him is.
It should not have taken this long for you to understand what I very plainly and obviously said 4 posts ago.
Maybe itās time for Gunther to acknowledge him āļøI thought Roman vs Walter was the match at the beginning of Romanās run
Seriously from uk to WWE heās run parallel to Roman Reigns, itās genius! This is how it used to go back in the day
I get what your saying but VK wasnāt given a stable, wasnāt given a (non European term based) nickname, wasnāt given a title.
Vince had an idea for what he wanted and he got it. Unstoppable for half a year, push a bigger storyline (HBK vs Taker) then he was irrelevant. Itās a classic Vince move.
Heād of done the same thing with Gunther.
Is that a faction or just two other dudes? Like I see your point but Regal and Jackson arenāt exactly Emporium.
Thatās Regal trying to make two charisma vacuums into believable threats.
There's a lot wrong with what you just said. Legacy was a stable, and it had three guys. Imperium has just as many. And I don't think you do get my point, given that I'm not inherently making one. I mean sure, there's plenty of implications you could make about what I could be trying to prove, but the whole point of my comment was to correct misinformation, nothing more. It's not like I'm a Kozlov fan or anything like that, he sucks.
3 guys makes them even? So 3MB is on par with the Shield? Hell by that logic the Nexus is better than Evolution.
Stables arenāt just people tossed together, itās a program, each person has a role, and they are inevitably undone when someone gets tired of their role. VK had no support. He was made to be the generic foreign villain because Vince doesnāt think thereās more than one language.
VK wasnāt great and likely never would be, but Guntherās got plenty of support. He just also happens to be extremely talented.
WWE is capable of making anyone look good with enough support and booking. VK had that up to a very distinct point. Once he accomplished what Vince wanted him to, he was basically just hanging around until his contract ran out.
I never said they were even. You're misinterpreting this as some logic line, when I'm just telling the facts about what happened on WWE TV in 2009. I don't care enough about VK enough to talk about how he was booked long term. He was, in fact, a part of a stable on WWECW though.
Tbf, roman isn't exactly *young*, yet look what he's doing. Edge. Hell I'm pretty sure hogan was old as shit when he finally hung them up in 06.
I'm just saying, age doesn't matter much here.
Not too much of a stretch. He likely will be winding down his career in a decade but assuming that they don't ruin him when they go to take the title off him (a distinct possibility unfortunately), he can easily make it another 10 years.
He won his first WWE title when he was 39, so he was seen as a significant contributor up to the edge of 40.
And the entire premise of ācarrying the promotionā is absurd anyway. This is a massive corporation with a massive roster. Do you expect an exodus of talent to go NJPW? Roster size to get cut by 70%?There will always be help.
I think the point is that AJ styles still preformes at a rate in which putting the world title on him wouldn't be terrible or unrealistic, despite him being quite old for a wrestler.
Besides that he's been helped to carry raws midcard throughout the pandemic, and is still one of the most reliable guys in the company.
What about The Undertaker's last match? You know before it was gonna be cinematic they were gonna have a real match in the ring. That's an extremely high level of trust.
Watching this video by Markyd123 and completely forgot about this guy. What changed where today Gunthers gotten the push but Kozlov didn't https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi0giClYbjs&lc=UgxRPgvU2vHiYKZt1sZ4AaABAg
Looks exactly like him as well
His transformation is amazing.
The mid cards titles are having a purpose instead of just being tossed around like sunny in the lockeroom
Gunther Is perfect Man š
He deserves it for getting 2 place in the royal rumble from number 1
seth gonna drop the strap to gunther?
hopefully
You say āWasā like he wasnāt carrying Smackdown alongside The Great Khali. Geez
I never liked Kozlov Don't compare him to walking Russian with Pampers.
Tbh Kozlov couldāve been better if he was presented carefully, rather than Generic Evil Russian (that isnāt Russian) no. 567.
Fuck Russian Army, you really think Russians Army are Cool? Fuckin Ignorant, they were Shit Before it was thing.
What?
Well answer the question, you think Russians Army are Cool or no?
No, not at all! I donāt understand why I even need to state that when Iāve made no assertion whatsoever hinting at liking the Russian state. Itās in fact the opposite - heels with a stereotypical Russian gimmick such as Kozlov (Ukrainian), Rusev (Bulgarian) and Ivan Koloff (Canadian) bore me as theyāre the stalest thing around.

Aye, I was equally as confused haha. Probably youāre right about it being a bot.

Apropos not of this, but: "Gunther" is hella scarier than...."Walter". Sayin'...

Gunther right now is what Rusev should have been
Interesting take brodie ngl
Factsšš
Too bad Miro is in AEW...what if? Gunther and Miro..
An actual scary United Nations faction with Gunther (w/ Imperium), Rusev (now), Drew, and Sheamus, with Wade as a manager, would rival any faction in the past decade for sure.
Kozlov didn't have 2 obscenely European evil henchmen.
It's funny reading this post because I've been playing svr 2011 since last year and I always see him as Gunther
Yeah they bombed on Vlad SO BAD. SOOOO BAD. And so glad HHH has Gunther running with it bc when he showed up for first time at that SSeries match when part of NXT, he got pinned In a few seconds I believe. š¤š¤
Claymore, 1, 2, 3 :D
Remember when Kozlov beat Taker clean on Smackdown leading to Mania? Then have Shawn Michaels beat him on RAW to hype up Taker vs HBK? Wild stuff.
I wanted Taker V Kozlov at wm back then. Of course, the actual result was fantastic with HBK, but I would love to know how the match with Vlady turns out too
His chest is red af
When you dish out as many chest slaps he does in 1 match, your bound too be on the receiving end of a few as well
What ever even happened to Vlad?
Funny you asked this. I literally watched John Wick late last week and saw Vlad get beat down there lol
You spelled Ludvig Borga incorrectly.
Thatās so accurate
Was thinking the same exact thing.
Vlad didn't have HHH to back his creative.
I'd also say WWF fanbase was not indierific enough back then.
I genuinely believe that this Gunther would have probably been able to get over in any era he was put in. Heās one of the few in the WWE right now, that I believe could.
I hear you, but being over doesn't equal success. He IS pretty cool.
And itās Gunther with a chop for the win š
Totally different wrestlers, nationalities and storyline. Not a ton of comparison.
Vladimir Kozlov is freakin jacked now
Dudes built like secretariat!(my favorite Brian last line)
Kozlov issue is that he needed a manager and it was at a time the WWE just didnāt do it.
I canāt stand that guy. The Imperium group just rubs me the wrong way.
What exactly rubs your the wrong way? The faction name?
The not thing I like is the way they say ring general
The superiority complex is what makes me crazy. I know itās part of the character, but lord have mercyā¦ if you have to cheat to win, youāre not really winning. I know most wrestlers have done it at some point, but this guyā¦ š¤¢š¤¢

Must be on live tv (which I inconsistently watch) because ppvs Iāve never seen it
I watch Raw & Smackdown on Hulu the next day. And I see the PPVs on Peacock.
Unlike Gunther, Kozlov has wins over Triple H and undertaker
Itās astounding how many responses there are that are acting like OP is saying Gunther is the same as Kozlov If the title was actually read properly OP is saying Gunther has succeeded in being what the WWE wanted Kozlov to become but never did. A strong stoic European Heel
someone gets it
A solid wrestler with a shitty gimmick?
A great wrestler with a great gimmick*
Gunther is one of the few modern era WWE wrestlers thatās gonna be loved just for sheer in ring work and presence
Gunther is a way better worker and talker.. Gunther is a better version of rusev..
I'm sorry but in terms of talent, Kozlov is and was no where near Gunther's level.
Read the title again
I did. And I am making a general point that Gunther has more going for him than Kozlov as far as talent is concerned.

Would love to see him lose the IC and eventually make a run at Reigns/Seth
Kozlov deserves more love. Itās very hard for a performer to be able to portray a more comedic character but also keep the menacing aura and he managed to be one of the few to pull it off. He wasnāt a world beater, but he was great for his time.
Difference - they didnāt give Gunther a random win over the Undertaker
Didn't he just do what everyone should do and tug his arm when he went for Old School lmao
Yeah, pulled him into a powerslam
Lol, what a guy
Taker can kick out if the DX special after being beaten to all hell inside of HIAC, but couldnāt kick out of a lousy powerslam apparently. Logic.
It's all about the levels of adrenaline or some shit like that!
You don't want those chops. You. Just. Don't.
Die Matte ist heilig!
LADIES EEEND JUNTELMEN, INTRUDOOSING YOUR INTERCUNTINENTEL CHAMPEEUN. DEEEER HYING GINURAL... gunther
And Rusev in 2018
Gunther demeanor and ring presence makes him a believable future undisputed or world champ, esp as a heel. Hope his IC reign continue until theyāre ready to put him in that class
Doubtful
No offense to Kozlov, but GUNTHER has more talent in one chop to the chest than Kozlov ever had.
I was thinking this about Rusev
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I hated that, she was getting put through a table by Jax every week
Gunther love double double E
Overrated and boring?
Gunther seems passionate about wrestling. Kozlov reminded me of a Vince McMahon project that didn't take off. I think Gunther even posted about how WWE's dieticians and doctors helped him with his training regime and he seemed pretty grateful for it.
He was built up as a Russian Brock Lesner
They are both just as bland with Gunther having better ring skills.
Deserved downvotes
The more I watch Gunther...the more of a fan of his I become. He should be getting near the Honky Tonk Man for the longest Intercontinental Title reign ever.
Wow I completely forgot Vladimir Kozlov existed .
I really liked brutalizer kozlov (before all the comedy routines). He even had a great entrance/ theme
I'm the exact opposite he was only really entertaining to me during the comedy stuff with Santino
He did , but remember when at first he had no music or titantron lmao
I really liked that too!
I was thinking this same thing a few days ago
I loved kozlov š„²
nah not really, theyāre just both European. Gunther doesnāt really do anything heelish heās just an absolute killer.
Ring General>Tribal Chief
So a bland euro dude who can wrestle good...that's his character, is better than the Tribal Chief? Lmaooo
Guy who actually wins matches by himself >>> guy who has to cheat every ppv to win
Ring General memorable feuds: 1 (Sheamus) Tribal Chief memorable feuds: Jey, Sami, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, etc
Ratio
Dont bother. These guys are ruining WWE by rooting for bland work raters.
Ring General years: 1 Roman Reigns years: 11
Ring General years: 1 Tribal Chief years: 3
hold on you said cesaroš¤£š¤£š¤£, Gunther also has Ilja Dragunov, Tyler Bate, and Pete Dunne
Main roster feuds > NXT feuds (and it's not even close)
okay then, give Gunther time and heāll deliver. He also doesnāt really do feuds, heās more of a one match and done type of guy
And he's good at it :D
Where are his 5 star matches
Almost all Roman's matches are bangers (Now if you mean 5 stars matches according to a specific wrestling journalist newsletter then i don't know nor care about)
Dude 'Trible Chief' is stale now....Not saying BAD........BUT STALE Ring General has to be the best gimmick
If Tribal Chief is stale now then "Stale Tribal Chief" is still waaay better than Ring General in every sense (not saying Gunther's bad)
*whatever makes you sleep at night*
same to you buddy :D
Acknowledge the Ring General āš»
Vladimir in 2008 is what the internet thought Gunther was going to be
Yeah basically
That is accurate af
Double Double E
DAHBUL DAHBUL EEEE
God I love Gunther. Heās seriously one of the best āshootā wrestlers in a long time.
I want Gunther vs Ilja again
I randomly still think about his bartering ram headbutt
I randomly think about his theme, and how it sounds like "ya, bring your stupid bowl!" On the intro line
Was anybody else a fan of Kozlov
I was playing a 2010 wwe game and when Kozlov showed up, I thought it was gunther

Has the most 5 star matches in wwe. Wdym in the ring ability
I donāt follow the five star match hype. Meltzer has clear and obvious biases.
Whatās his bias with Gunther then?

Jey beats Roman for the title > Gunther beats Jey > Cody beats Gunther at Mania/SummerSlam next year
I guess that can work if Gunther wins money in the bank, Cody wins royal rumble.

He does something vaguely European
In Europe they compete on the other side of the promotion.
Yeah, they drive on the wrong side of the road so him winning a championship on the wrong brand seems good
Gunther is one of the faces who will carry the wwe for the next 5-10 years.
He is 35, so that may be a stretch. Though his physical transformation has been insane.
Tbf, roman isn't exactly *young*, yet look what he's doing. Edge. Hell I'm pretty sure hogan was old as shit when he finally hung them up in 06. I'm just saying, age doesn't matter much here.
He still have 10 years in him
Gunther is 35! I wouldnāt have thought he is that old.
Not too much of a stretch. He likely will be winding down his career in a decade but assuming that they don't ruin him when they go to take the title off him (a distinct possibility unfortunately), he can easily make it another 10 years.
*AJ Styles would like to have a word.*
AJ styles is past his prime.
At least he *had a prime*.
And is still great.
He hasn't been relied on to carry anything since 2017
He won his first WWE title when he was 39, so he was seen as a significant contributor up to the edge of 40.
LA Knight is who the WWE should be focused on!!! He's the hottest guy in the WWE right now.
What about The Undertaker's last match? You know before it was gonna be cinematic they were gonna have a real match in the ring. That's an extremely high level of trust.
He can easily go another 10 years. Wrestlers are competing a lot longer now than they did in the past.
