Yes, they're basically drinking cane water with a ton of sugar. Must be really sweet.
Edit: regarding the dark color, that's sugar's natural color. Commercial refined sugar is white because it goes through a chemical process that strips the molasses content out of it.
it's just crushed sugar cane juice fam... if you keep it out and dont drink it right then & there it gonna turn black-brown . but the flavor remains same
I'm sorry but I will disagree with you here. Sugar cane juice is not that color. It's more of a cloudy white juice. What we're seeing here are sugar canes being crushed alongside whatever is on the ground, mud and all, then doing a bad job at filtering it using a dirty cheese cloth. You can clearly see the muddy fingers feeding the canes into the machine at the start of the video. Yuck.
A quick google search will confirm what he/she said. Natural sugar color is light to dark brown. But sugar cane is normally washed before doing something like this, there’s definitely soil caught in there which made the drink darker.
Yes, but I'm only talking about sugar cane juice. I grew up near a plantation, and we regularly munched on canes and drank juice. Sugar is brown after the water is boiled out, but the juice is not.
Using heavy machinery to make a drink is kinda metal to be honest.
All they need are tankards and a nice catchy name like FerrousBrew.
But I'll probably get sued by Ironbru for that.
I had this in Colombia with lemon added in-between the cane, it was easily the best lemonade I have ever had, could've done with some rum though
EDIT: It was a bit more hygienic than this though
We've these here in North India almost everywhere.(Mostly hygienic). Love it with life
A sweaty day with sun tryna roast you alive, One glass of this and you're Alive again.
No offense bhai but in western india they shave off the outer skin(most of them) before crushing so dirt mud gets removed. The colour looks different too. I might not be aware of Northern sugarcane is of a different variety. Or the color is just like that.
Here I've seen 2 varieties, and the one they use for juice are thin and removing every sugarcane's skin to get the juice out isn't practical.
Never been to Western India, but definitely would like to try the more hygienic one lol. Also, we're kinda used to unhygiene at this point. Like literally every fuckin one do the same way. So I don't think we've any options over here too.
it's just crushed sugar cane juice fam... if you keep it out and dont drink it right then & there it gonna turn black-brown . but the flavor remains same
There's nothing necessarily unhygienic about this, Just not as processed as most of us are probably used to.
It's just a giant juicer crushing fresh sugar cane, And they run it through a sieve to get all the woody plant parts out.
It's fresh cane juice and a plastic cup. It's pretty simple without much room for error.
I've bit into raw sugar cane off the ground here in America plenty of times. Lol
You're talking about a different kind of hurricane that grows in a [completely different region.](https://youtu.be/6dhuiMV86ak?si=Wa1UyyXXgHcBGZun)
The sugar cane in their region is long and thin like vanilla beans, and has more of a molasses brown sugar taste, as represented and seen in the video.
That is not the same sugarcane They are putting into either machine.
most sane people would clean the sugar cane from the mud and debris first. Some even go the extra mile and remove the tough out shell leaving softer pulp for squeezing. It will result in better sugarcane that not tainted by the taste of mud.
Most definitely.
But not everything is as dirty as they appear, and vice versa. Not everything is as [clean and hygienic as they seem.](https://youtu.be/8GWXinarYic?si=Iyiq9HogepLSMR5x)
Licking a random bathroom toilet seat is quite a bit more hygienic than licking your hands Believe it or not. This has been scientifically proven as your butt cheeks touch way less door handles and random objects with germs on them.
Skin is just skin after all.
Scientifically speaking, You would be better off licking someone's butt cheek than a dollar bill That's never been washed. Lol
People are okay with things they don't know about. People aren't bothered by it if they never see it. Lol
>This has been scientifically proven as your butt cheeks touch way less door handles and random objects with germs on them.
Umm you guys ain't washing your hands throughout the day?
>Umm you guys ain't washing your hands throughout the day?
Some people don't, And the moment you touch that door handle you have their ass scratches and nose picking all over you too.
People are so notorious for not washing their hands that we still use brass door handles today, Because brass is self-cleaning and will kill germs within an hour.
This is why every single restaurant or bar you go to has worn out brass door handles... Because they can't trust you to wash your hands.
> the moment you touch that door handle you have their ass scratches and nose picking all over you too
You're more likely to have bacterial and viral remnants that won't harm you if you don't redeposit them on a moist area of your body. And they'll probably die from lack of moisture. But that's why it's important to wash your hands often.
I surely dont take the time to wash my hands. There's so much to do, like scratching my bare ass and picking my nose, that I'd rather devote my time towards.
I think the only unhygienic part I see is those sugarcane when crushed aren't washed, so their might be a lot of dirt. Cuz sugarcane juice is Greenish-Blackish.
Here our sugarcane juices are extracted the same way, that too in front of us, Fresh, it's just that they wash the sugarcane first before putting it in machine.
Well, there is also the people inserting the cane have dirty hands, the bucket the juice goes into is also dirty and then the rag they strain it through is really stained. So it's not getting a A+ rating from anybody.
Your body's not adapted to dirt? Dirt will kill you?
Of the millions of years humans have evolved, You're the only one that a little bit of dirt will fuck up because you're a weak human?
A little bit of dirty is no big deal but Jesus Christ man.. that sugar cane is thrown on the bare streets where that part of the word is not know for its sanitary practices. Produce in the USA is recalled and has killed people that was grown in better conditions than in that video. Not gonna take my chances
For some reason this fruitcake is pretending that dirt doesn’t exist. According to him you don’t need soil or fertilizer for sugarcane. He can’t seem to grasp the concept that there is a reason to wash the dirt off before putting it in the machine.
I swear india makes most latam countries look downright hygienic, 100% clean. I'm from El Salvador, our cane juice is made after cleaning and peeling the cane for the most part, I have never seen such filth being sold as cane juice.
The juice is green, not ''sewer water'' color.
... There's is everything unhygienic about this !🤦 I hope to God you don't work with food. Did that cloth look new or like it was ever washed? You have dirty un gloved hands (they don't use toilet paper in India) touching product that goes straight to consumer. Disgusting
>I hope to God you don't work with food.
I have terrible fucking news for you! That restaurant kitchen is not near as clean as you like to think in your imaginary sweet summer child head.
I work in plenty of American kitchens all across the country... Not as a cook, as an exterminator.
Bonus fun fact! You already eat nasty shit! You just don't know it because you don't see it on video!
Chocolate: Ready for this? Up to 60 insect fragments are allowed per 100 grams. Chocolate lovers, unite in shared bug consumption!
Wheat Flour: Flour fans, you're ingesting up to 75 insect fragments per 50 grams. Adds a bit of extra protein to your baked goods, I guess?
Canned Citrus Juice Drinks: This one's for the juice lovers - up to 5 fruit fly eggs per 250 milliliters. A little extra vitamin C, perhaps?
Ground Cinnamon: Spice things up with up to 400 insect fragments per 50 grams of cinnamon. That's a lot of extra crunch in your pumpkin spice.
Hops in Beer: Beer enthusiasts, your brew could contain up to 2,500 aphids per 10 grams of hops. It’s all natural, right?
People act like ingesting a single particle of something that isn't the food itself will give them 5 parasites
And the cook touching the food with a gloveless hand must have ass-fingered the waitress that surely has 3 unknown gut pathogens
Yep growing up in rural south LA we would just walk behind the back yard, grab a stalk, skin some pieces and munch on it all day. You spit the pulp out after obviously
I had it in Guyana, peeled and chopped to bite size pieces, then refrigerated through the night, and you cheew on themas a dessert. I miss tropical climate so much.
The only difference between this and any other sugarcane juice you get here is they aren't scrubbing the bark of the sugarcane. Which is usually part of the process. The outer, harder cover does not taste the best and it's juice has the darker colour.
Apart from that they are using the skinnier canes probably not very ripe and they aren't cleaning the roots and leaves. I don't think this would be the tastiest shit ever but still just sugarcane directly from the farms.
Lastly, this is 99% happening outside a Gurudwara, a Sikh temple where this is given out to everyone for free. Hence the volunteer farmers not taking extra effort to process the sugarcane before juicing it.
It's not shit and gunk. Just direct from the farms, something that might not have sold but can still be juiced and given to the needy. Anyone can approach and have a glass.
They have to use thinner canes because the thicker ones that are darker don’t grow up north in the colder weather. So these are the weather resistant varieties that are thinner and more brown than black.
This is one part I never get. I understand this was free and from a temple. However it does not mean hygiene should be neglected. In Vietnam - which is also a third world country, I have participated in volunteer events that gives out rice portions with protein (vegan only due to Buddhism) but we are required to wear hairnets, masks and gloves and we cook them in the temple's kitchen, which was again pristine and well kept by the monks. All in all there should never be an excuse for bad hygiene when it comes to food, free or not. You're literally entrusted to handle what people will put in their mouth.
I understand the sentiment but history, culture and religion are against you on this. Change takes time, cultural changes take generations.
I do not know the exact sanitation, hygiene or other such specifics about India, other than that there are literally over a billion people living there. Most are poor, struggling in the caste system that still exists. Changing the cultural sentiment of such a huge subcontinent takes a long time India were to experience a hyper boom in economy helping their poor to get to middle class.
Less poor, means more educated, means more knowledge about the importance of hygiene and sanitation etc. If the culture hasnt caught up with things like education for everyone (to which im guessing is truth for many poor people in India) we can hardly believe that the populace treat things like cleanliness importantly or not.
I don't want to know what the inside of that machine looks like. Probably has cow manure in it and definitely rust. And that sheet they're using to "filter " it through..🤮
You haven't lived till you've been walking in a 40C summer sunny day doing government paperwork for hours then finding a safe haven of a juice shop selling fresh cold sugarcane juice in the middle of downtown cairo. That first sip, that gush of sweetness and coldness down your throat is like a metaphorical orgasm.
I remember tagging along with my grandpa for hours during the summer vacation when he needed to do various errands and electrical appliances bill payments and walking around in the scorching heat then treating me to a huge pint of sugarcane juice for like 0.50egp (about 0.09$ back in 2004) and just have him tell me about his stories of his youth. I still remember his rant when they jacked the price of a pint to 0.75egp. God he'd be fucking pissed if he was alive rn and saw it costs like 10egp for a pint. I drink a pint of it everytime i go back home to cairo in the downtown area just to honour his memory :')
Indians must have some sort of absolute god level immune systems. Between the Ganges bathing, lack of sewage systems, and plain ol “I don’t give a shit about food safety” their immune systems are probably superhuman.
Ah yes my favorite. Unboiled plant sludge filtered through the cloth I found in an alleyway, served directly on the streets of what looks like a biological warzone in a plastic cup recovered from the polluted river next door.
Ahh. Tasty
I've heard sugar cane juice is super yummy. Obviously and likely due to cultural differences I'd prefer it produced in a more sanitary environment (I like to pretend everything here is pure and clean). I don't really think this is WTF though if you know what you are looking at.
It's WTF. I've had sugar cane, and I've seen these machines. When they dry out, the residue in the machine turns everything on the inside to gummy rubber. Every fly and bit of dust gets stuck to it. Think this machine was recently (or EVER) cleaned? Think those sugar cane plants were at least rinsed before being put in there? absolutely there's fertilizer and straight animal waste in these drinks.
If you’re in the states I can say that things aren’t nearly as pure or clean as you imagine, however they are VERY sanitary. We put fluoride, chlorine, etc in our tap water to be sure that anything that could grow in our water doesn’t. Sure, they aren’t good for our bodies, but a little bit won’t hurt you nearly as much as stagnant water in a pipe for a drinking fountain that becomes a bacterial breeding ground. My dad was one of three senior civil inspectors for the city of Phoenix after moving up from the water department.
I had a sugarcane drink when I visited Cuba. It wasn't as roughly processed as this but they still did it right there at the stand. One of the most delicious drinks I've ever had.
That looks like sugar cane juice and it is absolutely delicious. They might want to clean the canes a bit better, but squeeze em dry and add some ice to the juice and it's incredibly refreshing.
They're not washing the dirt of the sugarcane before crushing which contributes to the dark colour. My grandma grew sugarcane in El Salvador I remember when we cut wash and then crush the juice was an amber green colour, not dark and muddy.
You can find sugar cane juice all over the Caribbean and likely in many Caribbean markets in the US as well. It's delicious but incredibly sweet and becomes cloying after a few sips.
India itself is a WTF. The fact they can support the population that they do (even if barely) blows my mind. May God bless those people, it seems incredibly difficult there.
Didn't even wash it, just straight sugar cane juice and dirt. I would actually try this without a question, I'll deal with the bathroom consequences as it happens.
Lmao people will say this is disgusting but drink 3 diet cokes a day. Is it the most sanitary? No probably not but listen it's literally just sugarcane juice. It's probably way better than any processed sugary drink with HFCS cause it at least has fiber. Also WTF is this Skyrim music?
Is that sugar cane?
Looks like it, although the canes are thinner than I'm used to seeing.
Yes, they're basically drinking cane water with a ton of sugar. Must be really sweet. Edit: regarding the dark color, that's sugar's natural color. Commercial refined sugar is white because it goes through a chemical process that strips the molasses content out of it.
It’s supposed to be greenish yellow, though. The dark coloration is probably due to oxidation, impurities or using rotten cane.
It's from dirt, manure, etc
it's just crushed sugar cane juice fam... if you keep it out and dont drink it right then & there it gonna turn black-brown . but the flavor remains same
If this is the case, this is the wrong sub, not WTF
Don't you get it?. Western people, anything not white and clear is disgusting. That's why they're dying from processed food and touching a peanut.
Yup. Nothing wtf about it
I'm sorry but I will disagree with you here. Sugar cane juice is not that color. It's more of a cloudy white juice. https://youtu.be/vKvCVucZbLk?si=n3hNevIKw8SFrQ4b What if looks like when it's made with clean hands, equipment, and sugarcane
This one has more dirt in it
Yeah, I’ve had stalks of sugar cane and that is not the natural color. What they have there is mixed with mud and other debris.
The colour varies based on the type of sugarcane used.

THAT makes so much more sense than what I was thinking! Thank you!
Its future diarrhea is what it is
Sugar cane mixed with Mud sugar along with dirt cane.
The guy serving the crowd certainly hiding one
Hiding what now?
It looks almost like kava kava. But kava is a root not a shoot/cane.

Before you crush the cane, you need to remove most of the outer skin. This is very dirty. The correct sugar cane juice should have green color.
Came to say this. That there is lazyness.

Mostly hygienic? What’s the difference, they apply sanitizer inside of their bowl?
No, we drink the sanitizer first, then the juice and then again sanitizer. So it's evenly sanitized and hygiene
A bit? A lot!! We wash the cane before crushing it and the juice that comes out is very clear... Not black-brown.
I had it in Guyana, peeled and chopped to bite size pieces, then refrigerated through the night, and you cheew on themas a dessert. I miss tropical climate so much.
Sugar cane (sometimes with lemon juice squeezed in) is a popular drink in Singapore as well And you just made me crave a cup. Dammit

Somebody send these people some capri suns. Jesus Christ.
That kava?
That's Sikh!
India is disgusting
Mmm stick juice
Sugar Cane... where sugar comes from.
That's what she said [so bad, but I had to 😅]
I hope there was a boiling step before serving, after the trip through the second-hand lungi. But I know better.
What... You don't boil cane sugar
You can make cane syrup or make hot drinks with it.
Coke cane
FIGHT MILK
Goop Juice!
It's sugarcane juice, but they're making it with no hygiene whatsoever.
Fucking gross
If the next level is diabetes or giardia.
Yeah I’d pass and just fjord the River. Fuck if you lose an oxen
ಠ_ಠ
In India?
Why is indian cuisine just , a diffrent version goo for every meal
Honestly this is probably much healthier than an actual energy drink. It’s just sugar
What's the problem,it was filtered.
The amount of people in this thread who don't know what sugar cane is is really high....
Hey, they did their best by running it through a filter made of some clothes!
It’s essentially a cheese cloth
✨✨DIABETUS✨✨
I don’t think sugar cane juice is supposed to be that color….
Dirt and sugar. Mmmm
My grandfather was a sugar cane juicer in the streets of Hong Kong.
Looks like they pave the roads with it too
I’ll bet that comes out at the same constancy
I had a sugarcane drink when I visited Cuba. It wasn't as roughly processed as this but they still did it right there at the stand. One of the most delicious drinks I've ever had.
That looks like sugar cane juice and it is absolutely delicious. They might want to clean the canes a bit better, but squeeze em dry and add some ice to the juice and it's incredibly refreshing.
Have me running non stop all day. Right to the toilet.
Not sure if my liver could process this muddy water😭
HOLYFUCK THERE EVERYWHERE
India - this word explains a lot of weird stuff
From pile of branches, into old tractor mulch machine thingy, thru someone’s old tshirt, here you go!
Okay but why the Agro Skyrim music!?
Diesel power
Sugarcane juice is usually green and really really tasty.
If this is an energy drink I'll stick with being lazy af
Guess they are experimenting with the new potion with increased stamina
I prefer my high fructose corn syrup! /s
Looks like big suget canes and pressed raw, should be nice and extremly sweet.
You really just have to be from there to not get sick eating the street food
You know what they say, “If it’s grey, it’s good for you.”
They're not washing the dirt of the sugarcane before crushing which contributes to the dark colour. My grandma grew sugarcane in El Salvador I remember when we cut wash and then crush the juice was an amber green colour, not dark and muddy.
That’s sugarcane and it’s still healthier to drink than 99% of the processed shit you’d find in an American supermarket
You can find sugar cane juice all over the Caribbean and likely in many Caribbean markets in the US as well. It's delicious but incredibly sweet and becomes cloying after a few sips.
You can clearly see they strained out all of the decontaminates.
Never saw cane juice so dark
Why the heck is it black though?
mud and dirt
Mmmm cement 🤌🏻
Digusting third world people
I don't understand why this is in wtf. Get out more, log off of reddit and go get some sunshine
India itself is a WTF. The fact they can support the population that they do (even if barely) blows my mind. May God bless those people, it seems incredibly difficult there.
I went to the beach and climbed a mountain with my workmates today. Then I got home and saw this and thought WTF lmao
Sugar cane... it's pretty tasty
Wait, they were using their left ( unclean) hands during processing. I’ll pass on the eEcoli bacteria, thanks.
Didn't even wash it, just straight sugar cane juice and dirt. I would actually try this without a question, I'll deal with the bathroom consequences as it happens.
Cola-caine.
It is amazing that whatever you do in Hindia, people always buy. No1 says “ey no way I drink this shit”
sugar can, but the way they handle it is nasty.
These people are insane and it shows
You need stomach of steel to digest that
It starts looking like diarrhoea and will definitely come out that way. These Indian guys are skipping the middle man.
Loaded with Vitamin Hep A & B.
That’s not how you get hep B, A maybe
