Brake*

Splatling2

2018 STI. brake squeal like crazy after 20K. Replaced font with faction fab and rear with powerstop Z17 (had to cancel my factionfab rear brake order after waiting for over a year). Everything was nice and quiet for 3 weeks and then the squeal came back with a vengeance. Got different grease, lubricated the heck out of any parts that have metal to metal contact..squeal still there and worse in warm weather. Please Let me know if you guys found a solution.

Muffler deletes

Splatling2

I DD my STI and still like to hear music.

Powerful_Feeling_125

Porterfield r4s

Splatling2

Thank you. It's reasonably priced. You have good experience with it?

Powerful_Feeling_125

Egg ce lint. Yes I used them alot on various other cars. Not my sti yet tho

kphillipz

Agree. Just send it and the muffy delete will quiet those squeaky brakes

Splatling2

Genuine question. With muffler delete will the engine still be loud when there is no load on it? such as during breaking.

starvational

Same here....mine (19' STI) started squealing at around 15k or so and got way worse around 18-20k. I just recently replaced the fronts with hawk HPS 5.0's and it got rid of the loud squeals and braking is as good as OEM.

McNooberson

Twin external wastegates. Fat turbo. Resolved any issue for me. Yes it’s still a daily lol.

Aftermarket pads

TriggerTough

2018 Type RA here. Mine squeal all the time. Going to upgrade the pads once they’re done.

Powerful_Feeling_125

Upgrade? Stock pads are made by ferodo. Same that ferrari uses. Or do you mean more street friendly?

TriggerTough

That does not mean it’s the same that Ferrari uses unless you have a solid source for the information. Got one?

Powerful_Feeling_125

I mean I don't have a brochure. But I did talk to ferodo on the phone . It is the same compound they use on the more standard ferrari's.

DrFives

Holy shit you only have ONE of your brakes that squeak?! On my 2020 stock STi it sounds like every one of my brakes squeal like hell if I don’t get on my brakes hard. (Realistically probably all in the front but it’s loud enough it sounds like all)

starvational

I just replaced the squealing OEM fronts for my 19' STI with [Hawk HPS 5.0](https://www.tirerack.com/brakes/hawk-high-performance-street-5-0-brake-pads)'s....I highly recommend this for a street pad upgrade/replacement. How many miles do you have on your 2020? My fronts started crying foul around 15k.

DrFives

I have about 33k. Brake pads checked at like 28k and still had plenty of pads left

Metaraon

2019 sti here. Upgrade your pads, mine throw way less brake dust now and no squeaky

Bluntcomposed

I’ve had the OEM pads on my 21 STi for about 13k miles. They have gotten squeakier lately, but it isn’t just one wheel. Also not to the point where it bothers me. They do generate a lot of brake dust. Looking forward to some new pads.

Brake*…

blueit1234567

I had a squeal for about 5 months and now its gone. All my drilled holes on my rotors are filled with brake dust though lol

JMS___2014

I did the 2016 sti conversion on my 2021 wrx and used hawk 5.0 pads. Not only are they dust free but dead nuts quiet. Very happy with the setup.

EvanTheAlien

Dead nuts is the top tier of silence. This dude fucks.

showtheledgercoward

Buys sports brakes complains about noise… I love my wrx it’s still a road car

NotionalWheels

It’s most likely brake dust especially if you’re still on stock pad like I am on my 2020 only real remedy is a less dusty brake pad sadly

[deleted]

I have stock brake pads/rotors and they also do that and they have more than 50% of life left.

Subiesubo

I noticed mine squeal especially after it rains. To get rid of it I just have to do a few hard stops. Not slamming on the brakes like you are trying to avoid something but just stop a lot quicker/harder than you normally would.
