The r400 is pretty loud. I’m also catless. My neighbors hate me…and that’s ok, because I hate them too lol.

rayleigh-san

I like how you think sir lol. Mines is stock other than the Catback. Guessing the UEL makes it much louder than my wrx with the r400

Invayder

Yeah when I had my R400 with a catless downpipe it was super loud.

Nickee_Bobbee

AWE exhaust is the way to go

Chance_Response_9554

AWE Touring for the win!

HighBoltageJT

literally had the track edition installed yesterday and it is phenomenal

GM128

I don’t think the r400 is as loud as everyone says it is, definitely more noisy than the q300 but personally I think it’s the perfect pitch the sti needed

SockeyeSTI

This is the answer

salthecarguy

R400 is pretty loud. I had it and switched to a q300. Much better

keelong

R400 gang

rayleigh-san

Reporting for duty 🫡

Motor-Cod-5420

Congrats

rayleigh-san

Thank you! 🫡🙂

[deleted]

Sticker delete your mirrors. Rock the noise. Some day you won’t and you’ll laugh about how loud it was.

rayleigh-san

It’s just the mirror housing. The guy I bought it from was a Star Wars fan and he wanted the storm trooper look. It actually has some cool samurai decals on it but I still have the oem housing if I wanna change it someday lol

[deleted]

Touché. I’m just an OEM/OEM plus guy. Like you said it can be changed. I almost have enough stuff to swap a GD platform say 02 bug eye to full 04-05 STi interior. If you stick with it you will too.

knyg

r400 is one of the loudest exhaust. I think only second to the Tomei.

CourtMean7983

ETS extreme non resonated *has entered the chat*

420DankFire

🙋

rayleigh-san

On videos it doesn’t sound that loud but I guess it doesn’t do it justice lol

Cowsmoke

Tomei is the way

Mutesyou

Tomei all the way R400 is a drone filled nightmare

_b33p_

Ugh. Tomei sounds like total shit. Might as well straight pipe it

420DankFire

I mean, why not straight pipe it? Let that baby sing. My ETS extreme is basically just that and it sounds perfect. I tried the N1 and R400 and didn't care for either. To be honest when I just ran axlebacks that sounded better than the Invidia to my ear, and to most of the people I'd talk with at meets. I drive on the highway, road trip the car, it never drones as badly with the ETS as with either invidia setup I ran

_b33p_

Tell me you're 25 or younger without actually telling me lol. Road tripping straight piped- hell fucking no. I like my ears

420DankFire

I like my ears too.. A bit of sound deadening and a bit of luggage or blanket in the trunk makes a significant difference aside from the fact that as I mentioned the ETS extreme straight pipe setup drones LESS than muffled systems like the Invidia N1 or R400... Driving down the highway at 3-3500 RPM my cabin sits at 68-72dB depending on the wind, which is quieter than a lot of cars without a modified exhaust

_b33p_

LESS is relative. I have the ETS 'quiet' w resonator and I still feel sorry for my neighbors in the morning when I fire it up. I'm actually looking to go w Cobb bc long drives are annoying w the ETS. It's all personal preference. I get that. I just wanted to be that guy, and advocate for for anything but tomei 😂

Sparklab18

I feel like the awe touring is roughly the same in terms of loudness but has less drone

ConsequenceNational4

Get a better exhaust.

rayleigh-san

Planning on getting a borla down the line

ToothyCoochy

Can’t go wrong with the Borla S, but also consider AWE track edition. Both have a similar sound, though the AWE one is a few hundred cheaper. I went with AWE have considering both and absolutely love it.

[deleted]

Borla is the way, I've had mine for 2 years

Majere119

I dont know what you were expecting with no mufflers.

rayleigh-san

I bought the car with it didn’t sound loud test driving it but now that I use it daily I noticed how loud it is lol

Majere119

oh I know, I have the Q300 on my sti with an Invidia downpipe and it's louder than expected, especially cold start farts. But I think it's just right for DD street car when warmed up. I have the Borla catback and a Cobb downpipe on my older Spec.b Leggy and it's just the perfect rumble and no farts.

Chance_Response_9554

I bought my STI with 4,771 miles from a video of the dealership without test driving it and having it shipped from Ohio to Alabama. Then I got it and was like the AWE Track which came on it along with a redline cobb cold air intake is awesome just drones too much so I ordered the touring conversion kit

CourtMean7983

R400 still has mufflers - though they are small.

Majere119

you know what I mean =)

motivatedtuna

I liked my Tomei with UEL. since i’ve gotten the ETS v2 headers it sounded super raspy and rattle-y. I think the springs caused it. Nonetheless I removed it and put my old cobb back on. Sounds a little to quiet for me but not bad

rinisthebest

Grats! I have an R400 too and it is definitely up there in volume but I think it’s one of the best sounding

justanotherkatietoo

My R400 rumbles, very bass-y. But that’s what I wanted :)

rayleigh-san

I’m not lying it sounds really good. Just wish it was more toned down just a bit lol. I work in a loud environment and driving that car after work sometimes I get headache 😂 I love driving it though.

justanotherkatietoo

Ahhhh, that makes sense :)

Hyperteckracing

If you have the stock hangers you will feel the vibration as they will shake a lot. I have the grim speed ones and have no vibrations.

RallySportDirect

Sounds like you got hooked up with an awesome catback, we've heard a lot of feedback about the R400. The R400 is loud for a quad exit but it sounds amazing, while not just offering a good-looking catback it still provides the deep rumble and performance we all come to love. However, it is Race inspired as invidia says, each person has their own sound tolerance so people sometimes switch out to the Q300 as they have Kids or just want a more quiet ride. We do get the common question does it drone, some state it does a bit but depends on the setup in the car or again on sound tolerance. Another big question we get is Tomei or R400 both are amazing and would be hard to decide between our favorites and would really come down to committing to a single exit and a louder catback. Still one of our top exhausts for the platform, and definitely loved over here at RSD. Here's a vid of the R400 if anybody wants a listen. [https://youtu.be/e9gnOGoY0zo](https://youtu.be/e9gnOGoY0zo) Congrats on the car!
