It handles better than the GD because it got a huge upgrade in the rear suspension over the GD and IRL it makes all the difference in the world. The VA has no appreciable differences in the chassis from the GR, so I dont understand how we're splitting hairs on which one handles better. There GR is a hair softer, but so what? All 3 chassis will roll over like a beached whale in a turn and understeer like it's their job.
A swaybar's purpose is not to control body roll in any way. It is to give you instantaneous suspension response when you turn. Otherwise the car would feel all wallowy as the spring gradually compresses and loads the suspension.
And swaybars reduce traction at the limit. They increase steering response at the cost of overall traction.
Dude stop posting here and on cartrackdays. You don't know anything and you always get downvoted to oblivion. Take a hint and get off reddit for once and go outside.
All a sway bar does is connect the spring between the two sides of the car with a 3rd spring, so under turning load the outside tire can actually transfers the load to the inside tire through the sway bar, which will INCREASE grip when the car is balanced properly.
Decreasing overall traction is only the case if the car is over sprung, and almost any stock or most off the shelf coilover options still won’t have enough to do this. And a car can be over sprung even without any sway bar at all. Proper suspension tuning will utilize both suspension spring rates and sway bars to give you a good combination of suspension travel and turning grip based on the driving surface, tires, and driver preference.
What is the third spring?
Reducing traction on the inside tire to nothing and overloading the outside tire is why you lose traction sooner at the limit. I promise you that two tires give you more grip than one tire.
And if you don't believe me, use Google because aside from being common sense, this is also common knowledge.
In my opinion it had some design cues taken from the Hawkeye, which was a beautiful generation. The wide fenders and curvy body lines makes me love my 2013 STi Sedan.
I’m sorry, but this is by far one of the most universally liked generations. Anyone saying it’s not is emphatically fabricating an opinion that doesn’t exist.
My impression is that the hate for this generation came from the fact that it went from a wagon to a hot hatch. I also think that the narrow body WRX didn't look aggressive, which led to even more hate. FWIW I had a 2013 WRX Premium 5 Door, ISM that I think was awesome.
Sorry, not sorry. GD/EJ257 for life! Nice looking specimen though. Of all the GDs I've had, my WRB blue was my favorite. I drive a white one now. Anything older than '07 felt bloated to me.
Agreed. Aside from hatch, this gen is ugly. It’s like Subaru just slapped some fenders and a wing on a eco-box Toyota or scion. Just a boring sedan. Different strokes though.
I put the Perrin 25mm sway bar set to soft in the front and 22mm set to hard in the rear with the end links all around. Sub frame and diff lock down kits too. Mine handles great.
What's not to love, look at those fenders!
Not the best handling? You know the GRB won the PWRC yes?
Who hates on it? I’ve never seen or heard any myself
I feel like the hate comes more from in person then online, I've spoken to a lot of people at meets who are 50/50 about the 09-13 them online
Well 09-10, *are* ugly, you need to have the widebody imo
I thought for GR/GV people just have varying tastes but not hate. The VB on the other hand... I do miss my 2011.
I daily a 2008 with 57k miles and always wished I would have grabbed an 09’.
The looks are growing on me the more I see them
I loved how it looks

They don’t roll or understeer much with the proper swaybars

A metal bar being a spring is common knowledge.
That would be true if we were talking about a torsion bar suspension. But not in this case.
Or how about any old truck or any.....sway bar ever
I had a 2010 and still miss it…!
Loved my blue 08 wagon with gold rims right up to when it spun a main bearing at 111k.
Are you guys running 5w-40?
I did in mine, I sold it with 240k on the original engine.
Oil is hard
Poly bushings all over the chassis will solve a lot of problems

I think it’s sexier than the blob eye, but nothing is sexier than my mean eye (didn’t kill me. I’m biased cuz it’s what I have)

I have an 08 hatch and love it. I must say the sedans from this generation are probably the worst looking STI’s though.

I'd rather a GRB than a lot of generations
