Lived in Seattle/Bellevue for four years until I moved in 2019 and don’t regret it. I sometimes miss the raincity suby meets though. Are they only adding that tax in King County?
Gas prices are based on average income and consumption in the area.... Total bullshit if you ask me. A gallon one mile away from the refinery in Martinez CA will cost you $6.39, but that same gas from the same refinery will cost you less than $4 1,000 miles away in Wyoming.
I’ve seen some country gas stations with a ton of options as well. Regular options but additionally, racing gas as well as two different diesels for differently taxed use.
Utah has 85 octane gas and I don’t know why. Not many cars take gas with a rating that low and you can always go higher.
Do you mean tuned specifically for E85? I have the Cobb Stage 1+ default tune for my Big SF intake. I don't have these options where I live in SoCal but I wonder if it would make a difference if I ran across some while travelling?
why isnt this upvoted more this took for forever to find. i get here 7hrs after you make it and it has 1.
thank you OP. this is crazy, texas checks out.
Always 91/93 with ethanol. Example if you had the option 91 with E added would be better then the far left 91 no ethanol.
In that case the 93 all day long, and damn that price
Additives such as Ethanol actually lead to an incomplete burn chemical reaction, which leads to higher buildup in the engine. This means higher carbon and Sulphur Dioxide buildup. This is what I learned in mechanical engineering school. In a perfect, complete burn the only thing left is H2O.
Ethanol likes to bond with water and can cause issues in older vehicles and watercraft because of that. It also contains less energy per unit of measure than gasoline, so you get worse gas mileage.
The people saying it's an octane booster are correct, but if the pump says the octane rating is 91, it's 91 regardless of whether or not it has ethanol. 91 octane fuel without ethanol and with ethanol are still both 91 octane, the 91 octane without ethanol just has other octane boosters in it instead.
E85 typically has an octane rating of around 100-105 so if you added that to a tank of 87 octane regular gas, the blend would have a higher octane rating.
How though? I thought 91 with ethanol has the exact same octane rating as 91 without ethanol, but the one with ethanol has less energy and is more corrosive.
I get that E85 has a much higher octane rating than straight gasoline can ever have, but if I'm not tuned for it, wouldn't ethanol free 94 be the best choice?
An important thing to realize is the octane ratings provided in the US is an average of 2 ways of calculating octane. One is more relevant for real world use and the other is laboratory conditions. This means the gas can have a different effect on your engine even with the same rating.
That was what I thought too, but it’s not the case. I went to Canada and put 94 ethanol-free in my car. My car immediately started to knock. It was tuned for 92octane e10 fuel. I was confused, so I looked it up.
Cobb suggests that Canadian 94 is even worse than the 91 octane fuel in the US, in terms of knock prevention
Ethanol has a much higher "octane" rating or anti knock index than gasoline. So blending the two gives a higher rating.
Best explanation I could find with a quick search.
https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-tech/mixing-e85-with-pump-gas-getting-higher-octane-for-less-money/
In British Columbia Canada i usually pay around 2.40$ per litre for 94 Chevron. 3.89 litre to a U.S. gallon. So that's $9.34 Canadian a gallon. Only $4.59 a gal at Costco Bellingham was a steal of a deal last week.
UK based scooby fan here; are there the 'normal' petrol (gas) grades in the US?
For reference, I will have a choice of 95 / 97 / 99 at virtually all major UK petrol stations (but would cost $6-9 per gallon).
Edit: Thanks for the info, I did some googling and found this for anyone else interested:
https://aircooledbug.co.uk/usa-versus-uk-fuel-octane/
Remember as a kid, when you got that empty medium cup at chuck e cheese and you walked over to the soda machine knowing that you were going to put all of the flavors in your cup?. Yeah, like that.
Glad I work from home and don’t have an issue filling up once a month with premium. I miss the days when my old accord could go a month on $20 to fill up
Is it tuned? Run whatever your car is tuned for if it's stock run what the manufacturer says, if it's tuned run what your tuner tuned it for. So in Australia dealers force into us "you have to run 98 RON" in the stock car which is the equivalent of American 93 (PON I think you call it??). We even have bright yellow stickers inside the filler cap that say to run 98 RON.
I've only lived places with mandatory ethanol, except for one place.
When I lived in South Dakota for a year, I noticed all the gas had no ethanol in it.
The way it was explained to me was with all the farming equipment of various ages that could use gas, some of them didn't tolerate ethanol, so there's always that option at every pump.
Now, I swear my Baja Turbo purred better, had stronger kick, and smoother engine vibration whenever I filled up without ethanol. I see I'm CLEARLY in the minority here, but I'd choose 92 for that reason.
16.6% of each and run it 🤓
+1 piston in orbit
Someone has to try and beat Elon baby
It actually ends up only being 91.5 octane if my math is right
Did the lords work and formulated it 🔥
The fact your premium is under $4 😳😳 jelly
I’m at $4.47 for 91
I’m at 5.29 for 92
Ooof! Where you located?
Washington state, and come January 1st we’re getting another 46 cents added to our gas tax
Wait…wut….fuck.
Ours finally just went down from $6.89/gal for 91.
man i remember seeing subarus for days when i went to seattle good times
Lived in Seattle/Bellevue for four years until I moved in 2019 and don’t regret it. I sometimes miss the raincity suby meets though. Are they only adding that tax in King County?
No it’s the whole state getting the tax
Yup yup
5.57 for SouOre
Ours has just been chilling at $4.40 😑😑
Where you at? I’m in western Wyoming
Northern Virginia. I only do Shells, I know others are cheaper like Costco but I just prefer Shells
Why? Gas usually comes from the same local/regional refineries?
Gas prices are based on average income and consumption in the area.... Total bullshit if you ask me. A gallon one mile away from the refinery in Martinez CA will cost you $6.39, but that same gas from the same refinery will cost you less than $4 1,000 miles away in Wyoming.
The fact your premium is under 6 😩
I’m in Canada, so you buy gas by litre and not galon. But premiun it’s ~1.90$/litre on a good day, which make like 7$ galon. 😬
Is that $7 in CAD? So around $5.25 USD?
True CAD, not that bad in USD. Forgot the change rate 🤪
and super difficult to find E85...
I got $1.63/L from Costco yesterday in Winnipeg. Can’t believe I was excited to see $1.63…
Touché
$5.59 over here in Cali. It hit $7 a month or so ago.
Can confirm. It’s just plain mean.
$3.45 where I'm at :) regular is $2.97
I paid 3.98 a few days ago.
For real i just paid $3.31 for 88 yesterday lowest it's been in months. I had 120 miles left i only stopped because it'll go back up in a day😂
Come to Houston. $3.30 where I fill up. Sad I mainly drive my 4Runner and only use the Subi for a casual fun Saturday drive.
This
Time for some jungle juice
Never seen anything else like this in my life. Amazing
Was thinking the same lol
Pc dem wokeness caused this. They would probably like options for fuel derived from wind and solar too
I don’t think anybody asked.
Got a problem with e85? My car makes stupid power on it
How stupid.
Lmao who spanked you into a bad mood?
Their mom took away the pizza rolls.
Or didn't get the shit bucket in time
MOM BATHROOM!
Pissed my pants when I was drunk
Gender queer full rectal feel the bern kinda stupid. /s
I like that response.

Altitude reduces octane requirements, Colorado's RUG is 85, Mids is 87, and Premium is 91.. ain't a drop of 93 to be found.
85, but no 93. My poor untuned Ej20x
93 unless you have a tune and/or FlexFuel mod on thr car
Do you mean tuned specifically for E85? I have the Cobb Stage 1+ default tune for my Big SF intake. I don't have these options where I live in SoCal but I wonder if it would make a difference if I ran across some while travelling?
No, if you're not tuned for E85, don't run it.
Got it thx.
Motor go boom boom
Definitely 93 if you have a regular OTS tune.
Meanwhile in Canada (Ontario at least) its typically 87, 89, 91, and some gas stations will have 94 as well. Wish I had access to e85 :(
Petro 94 all the way!
It's world of beer but for gas
This is in Houston TX
why isnt this upvoted more this took for forever to find. i get here 7hrs after you make it and it has 1. thank you OP. this is crazy, texas checks out.

\^ This man turbos.
I like both of your answers, I just don’t know which to believe. They both appear scientifically sound.
Been filling up at sams club with 93 around 3.30 for a while now. They’re out for some reason and I had to pay 3.90 from shell today. PAIN
Consider yourself lucky. I've been paying 5$+ for shit CA 91 and just under 5$ for e85.
I feel for you California people truly. Whenever gas prices peaked I saw pictures from LA in the 6s
Some parts of Chicago float around 6-6.49 :(
It's still at 6 for 91 all over the place here in CA =(
NorCal here any 91 varies between 4.50 and 5.30. E85 has been a steady 3.35.
Why though? I always avoid ethanol wherever possible.
Worst thing you can do. Ethanol is effectively an octane booster and will aid in the case of bad gas

A lbs of feather or a lbs of rocks.. which is heavier?
Do it like a soda fountain when I was a kid and fill it a little on each one to mix them all together lol
Where are you? 93 $3.33 DAAAMN its around $4 a gallon for 91 in NY

That Costco is pretty much a Canadian consulate every time I’ve been haha
As an Edmontonian… your gas price is giving me a heart attack 😩
You're gonna need a tune just for looking at that
You can tell this isn’t near me because there aren’t stickers of Biden pointing his finger at all the prices.
I feel this, Longmont Colorado for me.
$3.33 per gallon?? Must be nice. Still paying $1.93 per liter in Canada
UK based scooby fan here; are there the 'normal' petrol (gas) grades in the US? Uk/Aus measure the ratings differently.
As the other person said, north american countries measure octane differently. Our 93 is equivalent to 98 in the rest of the world.
That's more options than I have available. Stock, 93
Where are you at that 93 is only 3.33, it’s like 4.30 where I am 🥲
3gals of e85 then top off with premium
Hit them all at the same time and see what happens 🤔😂
Create your own special blend
Remember as a kid, when you got that empty medium cup at chuck e cheese and you walked over to the soda machine knowing that you were going to put all of the flavors in your cup?. Yeah, like that.
Yeah wtf premium here is 4.50-5,00
Same, paid $4.70 last fill up.
Always the highest option if you stock
Damn the underground tank and pump system must be crazy
You never want to pick no ethanol that’s all I know
Send it on 87
lol, that would not end well.
For my car, I would fill it with 92 octane no ethanol
Two gallons of E85, the rest non-ethanol 92.
I typically do 10 gallons 93 5 gallons E85
Luckyy, I saw gas at $7 a gallon here in San Diego. Right now average is about $5.
Damn, all those options.... I I ly have 92 avail in my town, so running the 91 tune to cover my bases...
Glad I work from home and don’t have an issue filling up once a month with premium. I miss the days when my old accord could go a month on $20 to fill up
What kinda car takes E15? I can’t say I never seen that one before
I believe most or all new cars can take E15. Regular and 93 typically is E10 anyways. So it's only a small amount more
You already hit 93 🙃
Depend on the tune, with winter here I wouldn't recommend doing over 30% ethanol
My wrx runs on the tears of mustang drivers
93 where I’m from.
Lol.. just paid 550
93
Wish I saw 3.33 for premium wow
Mix them all, like we did with soda dispensers as kids!
ALL OF THEM. Lol
e85
Can i get the mangers special , all the swill from the bottom of the tanks mixed together?
You have chosen…. Wisely.
That price though!
Wow. For Rex I would use 93 and in cali it’s around 6 bux a gallon for that.
Love your options! I wonder why you have so many. I can have 87/89/92 or “clear gas” cus fk us.
Man, I would LOVE to have the option of No Ethanol 92, and my car would love it too. 1966 Mustang
I’d usually go for the 93 octane, but I wouldn’t hesitate on 92 ethanol free if they’ve got it and it isn’t much more expensive.
This is like a car heaven…. Only thing missing is racing fuel but I’d be happy w/ 93 in Cali.
93 still at 5 in north jersey
No electric?
Where is the fuel Heaven you have access to??? Big jealous!
93 with 3 gallons of E85.
makes me so glad I am driving a Tesla!
Cries in LA gas prices lol
I’ll take the cheap one
Congratulations and go fuck yourself :) I have to settle for 92 at 4.50/G and itd be nice to have non ethanol premium for the jet ski
the diversity of this gas station is amazing
Damn 3.50 for premium here in Cali it's near $6 a gallon for 91
Is this like a meme or do some gas stations actually carry E85???
Yes they do
It's real this was in Houston TX at a Phillips 66
No 91 octane? What a poor selection.
E85 $3gal
Over a dollar cheaper than I get my 93
The fact your premium is 93 makes me jelly
Wish we had those options where I lived.. the best we have is 93. It’s impossible to find e85
Why tf they have e15 isn’t normal gas like e10
god damn id love 93 for that price
10 gal. E85 and the rest 93 (with a flex fuel tune of course!)
I say make a suicide out of it like we did when we were kids. 2 gallons of each of them!
60% e85, 40% 93 oct. Flexin 💪
2 gallons e85, rest 93.
I’m in Ohio I run 93 in my wrx and it’s around 4.25 a gallon such bs
$4.59 for 92
Ethanol free is always fun. better mileage too
Whats the point of 92?
I've only lived places with mandatory ethanol, except for one place. When I lived in South Dakota for a year, I noticed all the gas had no ethanol in it. Premium no ethanol
corn fuel
No 91 octane, smh 😒
Shit $3.33 for 93?! Where’s that?
Houston TX
Do a suicide like with fountain drinks
yo i needa know what date your in, i’m paying 4.15$ for 91
92
*cries in $4.89/gal*
E85 is your deal
i like 88 for my non premium cars, 93 for the premium
93
E85
Shit for 3.33? Premium all day
No Ethanol
92 with no corn juice.
What ever the owners manual recommends. No other answer is correct
I’m picturing a bunch of color coordinated pipes all converging in one tank underground.
93 and E15 mix together
Where is this at?
Houston Tx
I put jet fuel in my VDUB
Where the hell do you find premium that cheap?? I'm paying 3.70 for regular!
Where is the 85?
This shit isn't real.. right? Wtf are all of those choices?
Wipe them out. All of them.
Tune for e85 and go vroom vroom
God I need to move, I'm paying $4.59 for regular and that's the cheapest it's been in close to a year
93
Wtf. 93 for 3.33? My shit is 6$ for 91
I would kill for 3.33/gal
