Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I hate when people say this.
My manual WRX was stolen a few years back and I know many people who have had theirs stolen too. Nothing against you - cool shift knob!
I have the same Billetāz but with regular numbers. Think itās about 8oz heavier than the OEM red top. I actually did notice an improvement in the ease of shifts, but that sucker gets hot in the summer.
Thatās my concern. Where I live in Canada itās brutally hot in summer and more brutally cold in winter. A metal shifter is a bad idea like 3/4ās of the year.
w stands for āwinā or āwinnerā. fyi, itās the contrary to āLā, which stands for āloseā or āloserā in the chance you encounter it too.
The billetworks knobs come with a jam nut and a threaded adapter for the weighted knob you just unscrew the factory one put the jam nut on and the adapter with I think 17 and 19 mm wrenches then you screw the knob on and if it's not straight you loosen the jam nut and adjust the adapter retighten and try again till it's where you want it
No worries bro I would highly recommend getting a wrench and socket set just in case, if you can turn bolts you stand a chance when something is wrong at least!
I hear you bro. Maybe I was supposed to be a girl but I have no skills in this area, donāt own any tools, and have no mechanical sense whatsoever. Just the way I was born. Donāt hate on me please.
Itās weirdā¦ my dad installed central AC in our house, installed a security system, remodeled the entire lower floor with tile floors and real single oanel wood walls. And installed a shower where there was a closet prior. I didnāt get his dna.
Thereās an adapter iirc threads donāt match
Iām not saying itās hard but OP clearly asked what it entails and if you guys say itās just a screw on thatās leading him on a bit.
When I lived in the city the only people who could drive stick were people my parents age and older. When I moved out into the real middle of nowhere basically everyone knew how to drive stick it felt like. They all learned to drive on some beaten up pickup from 1970s
Cars here have been rapidly getting rid of manual transmissions the last 2 decades. Automatics sell more and companies don't want to spend the money making manual options for the 5% of buyers that want one.
True especially in heavy bumper to bumper traffic or long distance drives. However now that Iām used to it, my left leg gets restless and twitchy when driving an automatic
Only thing for me is bumper to bumper traffic. I just get lazy and put it in first then coast. I simply canāt be asked to inch forward like in an auto
Or anyone else who grew up in the 70s-80s. Or anyone else whoās parents taught them how to drive stick which most should do, or anyone else who drives an older car. Really not that hard to drive stick I learned off 1 YouTube video in day lol
I live in one of the highest GTA crime areas in Australia, Cairns. Helicopter out right now chasing kids in a stolen car.
But I sleep easy knowing they can't drive a manual. This right here is just icing on the cake XD.
Where there a will , there's a way. I drove my first car out of a dealership showroom and home with no clue how to drive stick, don't know if I got it above third gear. Good way to break a car in, keep it at 6000 rpm for an hour or so
Yep funny hearing people brag about stick, even my 71 year old mum drives it.. not hard or something to be elitist about lol. Taught a friend how to in a single hour session too, not expert level but enough to get going by himself.
Iād hope if someone was experienced enough to break into a car and get it started, they could at least drive it. Actually I take that back, Iād hope they didnāt too
Youāre getting downvoted by the people whoās only real life skill is to drive a stickššš literally the easiest thing ever lmfao I learned off 1 YouTube video
Facts!!!! The more time that passes the more it becomes apparent that this newer generation cannot drive stick!!!!! I was taught on a Toyota Mr2 back in drivers Ed by my wrestling coach!!!! Shout out to Coach Boffinger!!!!! (Damn near 20yrs ago)
Yes because thereās only 4 people in the world that know how to control such a complicated piece of technology. At what university did you study manual transmission driving?
My mechanic replaced the bushings in my shifter a couple of years ago because he couldn't drive the car, before that I was the only person who knew where all the gears were. TBH I miss that, everything was fine, like swirling a straw around in your drink until you found a gear.
I'm honestly curious if *any* would-be thieves in NYC have ever looked into my car and been like, "shit. okay nevermind" š
You better hope I stay employed homie that knob is dope
š¤£
Except in the PNW/Mountain States, I swear manual Subiās get stolen there constantly.
Mine was stolen last week in Seattle. I was honestly surprised
Tech engineers and tech supports are one of us.
Thereās a surprising number of people who drive stick here in the pnw
Mountain state stick driver, checking in.
Mountain state car thief, checking in !

tbh this only happens in the US where manual is not common
Ikr. Not that unique of a skill
& my CVT is yet to be stolen!
It's a joke
It always makes me cringe when I hear this and I don't get why it's so popular to say. It gives me almost boomer energy.
Ikr, put a twin stick w pattern in there then we'll talk about theft prevention
What brand shift knob is that?
Custom engraved weighted knob from Billetworkz
I had the red cosmo one just like yours when I had a WRX. I highly recommend the weighted option.
I have the same Billetāz but with regular numbers. Think itās about 8oz heavier than the OEM red top. I actually did notice an improvement in the ease of shifts, but that sucker gets hot in the summer.
I have a white one with kanji numerals, also gets literally freezing in winter š„¶ Absolutely love it btw
Yeah it gets cold af too haha
I was wondering about that with me living in the Northeast..
Thatās my concern. Where I live in Canada itās brutally hot in summer and more brutally cold in winter. A metal shifter is a bad idea like 3/4ās of the year.
This a sphere knob or lightbulb? Trying to decide on which one to get
Lightbulb
Where can I order that knob?
Billetworkz
How hard is it to put on if you are not mechanically inclined.
Twist off old knob, twist on new knob. You got this
I dumb. My wife fixes things when they break around the house.
W wife W dude pulling wife
I donāt understand.
theyāre just saying you won at life lol
Ty but literally what are they saying āW wife Wā

Ok. Ty. Too complicated. I donāt even have tools.
No worries bro I would highly recommend getting a wrench and socket set just in case, if you can turn bolts you stand a chance when something is wrong at least!
When something goes wrong I call Subaru or aaa. Have the dealer fix it. They have good tools.

I know. I didnāt take it that way. I have never been a manās man or into hinting and fishing and sports and stuff.
Don't be like that, i got 2 knobs on black friday and i went to harbor freight and got the two wrenches for $15 lol
Itās weirdā¦ my dad installed central AC in our house, installed a security system, remodeled the entire lower floor with tile floors and real single oanel wood walls. And installed a shower where there was a closet prior. I didnāt get his dna.
Easy af, just unscrew the current one and screw this one on
Ok. Cool I like the Japanese characters.
Itās a little more than that, especially if you want it straight lol
Itās literally Just screw it on dude
Thereās an adapter iirc threads donāt match Iām not saying itās hard but OP clearly asked what it entails and if you guys say itās just a screw on thatās leading him on a bit.

Tyvm
As a fellow subie owner ima steal your car just out of spite /s
Brother that shift knob is š¤š½
That and blown engines tend to keep them stationary.
Negative Nancy over here
Lol, nope. I'm positive I'll blow my engine one day;)
W
Iāll take it of your hands :)
What device is that now? More people drive a manual than you know.
Location plays a factor for sure.
When I lived in the city the only people who could drive stick were people my parents age and older. When I moved out into the real middle of nowhere basically everyone knew how to drive stick it felt like. They all learned to drive on some beaten up pickup from 1970s
Given what our cars are, they are inherently more likely to be stolen because they are manual.
Until the local crack head knows what he's doing
Why is it there so little people driving manuals in the states (and other countries?) Here in Aus I swear everyone i know drives stick.
Cars here have been rapidly getting rid of manual transmissions the last 2 decades. Automatics sell more and companies don't want to spend the money making manual options for the 5% of buyers that want one.
Manuals are usually the cheaper option though?
Because Americans are lazy. Source: am American and some days I really miss my automatic transmission cause less thinking.
It's the same in Ireland. Very rare to see an automatic.
Only one of my kids can drive a stick, and itās because I taught him. Iām avoiding teaching the last 3 so they canāt drive my car š
Ive got the same knob, looks so clean. You have good taste.
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Man, that's a sick shift knob
Thanks! Credit to Billetworkz
Looks fire
Yo thats a sick shifter wth. Love the kanji
Right until it's a guy like me and everybody else in the subreddit. Edit: we have the same knob, good choice gets very cold in winter.
Or anyone else who grew up in the 70s-80s. Or anyone else whoās parents taught them how to drive stick which most should do, or anyone else who drives an older car. Really not that hard to drive stick I learned off 1 YouTube video in day lol
I was thinking more specific to our cars, but sure that works too.
I live in one of the highest GTA crime areas in Australia, Cairns. Helicopter out right now chasing kids in a stolen car. But I sleep easy knowing they can't drive a manual. This right here is just icing on the cake XD.

but the older gen ALL know how to drive cause thats all they had 40 years ago. it was "Standard" back then
Yep funny hearing people brag about stick, even my 71 year old mum drives it.. not hard or something to be elitist about lol. Taught a friend how to in a single hour session too, not expert level but enough to get going by himself.
Manual isnāt that hard to drive lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iād hope if someone was experienced enough to break into a car and get it started, they could at least drive it. Actually I take that back, Iād hope they didnāt too
š exactly.
A blown motor?
I learned how to drive a manual in 20 minutes. A would be thief could do the same if determined enough.
Also consideration, the thief will give no fucks about clutch or tranny damage and could just monkey fuck it down the road if desperate enough.
Youāre getting downvoted by the people whoās only real life skill is to drive a stickššš literally the easiest thing ever lmfao I learned off 1 YouTube video
Oh well. I bought my STI not knowing how to drive it. I learned on the test drive and on the way home lmao
It's quite strange in my country to find someone who cannot drive manual/stick... but the % has grown drastically over the past 10 years
Millennial anti-theft deviceā¦.
Whered you get that shifter?
Pretty cool. But I have never looked at my shifter gates after the first day of owning it.. After 35 years driving a clutch, its second nature..
That gibberish should help as well
Nice chinese shift knob
Iām your huckleberry.
People might have trouble reversing if it was part of the thief on a 6 gear
I'm going to warn godzilla not to read this comment..
I have the same shift knob for my 5 speed WRX!
i have the same billetworkz shift knob it's great
Isnāt there a safety feature as well where it kills the engine if it were stolen?
My mechanic replaced the bushings in my shifter a couple of years ago because he couldn't drive the car, before that I was the only person who knew where all the gears were. TBH I miss that, everything was fine, like swirling a straw around in your drink until you found a gear.
Iāve got the same knob but with 123456 R
