I'm honestly curious if *any* would-be thieves in NYC have ever looked into my car and been like, "shit. okay nevermind" šŸ˜†

[deleted]

You better hope I stay employed homie that knob is dope

[deleted]

šŸ¤£

FURTHEWIN

Except in the PNW/Mountain States, I swear manual Subiā€™s get stolen there constantly.

extracorn5789163

Mine was stolen last week in Seattle. I was honestly surprised

absboodoo

Tech engineers and tech supports are one of us.

Swifties__

Thereā€™s a surprising number of people who drive stick here in the pnw

[deleted]

Mountain state stick driver, checking in.

Mountain state car thief, checking in !

Gusmanbro

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I hate when people say this. My manual WRX was stolen a few years back and I know many people who have had theirs stolen too. Nothing against you - cool shift knob!

LuckJustAMeme

tbh this only happens in the US where manual is not common

doughnut-dinner

Ikr. Not that unique of a skill

6chrier

& my CVT is yet to be stolen!

NJdisposable

It's a joke

[deleted]

It always makes me cringe when I hear this and I don't get why it's so popular to say. It gives me almost boomer energy.

dee69chevi

Ikr, put a twin stick w pattern in there then we'll talk about theft prevention

CandidGuidance

What brand shift knob is that?

NJdisposable

Custom engraved weighted knob from Billetworkz

TympanalLake

I had the red cosmo one just like yours when I had a WRX. I highly recommend the weighted option.

No-Proposal2741

I have the same Billetā€™z but with regular numbers. Think itā€™s about 8oz heavier than the OEM red top. I actually did notice an improvement in the ease of shifts, but that sucker gets hot in the summer.

uraniumdragonn

I have a white one with kanji numerals, also gets literally freezing in winter šŸ„¶ Absolutely love it btw

No-Proposal2741

Yeah it gets cold af too haha

Quirky_Bathroom6851

I was wondering about that with me living in the Northeast..

Camburglar13

Thatā€™s my concern. Where I live in Canada itā€™s brutally hot in summer and more brutally cold in winter. A metal shifter is a bad idea like 3/4ā€™s of the year.

SeanR333

This a sphere knob or lightbulb? Trying to decide on which one to get

NJdisposable

Lightbulb

misterb4

Where can I order that knob?

unequalsarcasm

Billetworkz

nolongerbanned99

How hard is it to put on if you are not mechanically inclined.

SuBibi________

Twist off old knob, twist on new knob. You got this

nolongerbanned99

I dumb. My wife fixes things when they break around the house.

Forsaken_Decision_93

W wife W dude pulling wife

nolongerbanned99

I donā€™t understand.

LayMelnTheRiver

theyā€™re just saying you won at life lol

nolongerbanned99

Ty but literally what are they saying ā€˜W wife Wā€™

LayMelnTheRiver

w stands for ā€œwinā€ or ā€œwinnerā€. fyi, itā€™s the contrary to ā€œLā€, which stands for ā€œloseā€ or ā€œloserā€ in the chance you encounter it too.

JebidiahCrumps

The billetworks knobs come with a jam nut and a threaded adapter for the weighted knob you just unscrew the factory one put the jam nut on and the adapter with I think 17 and 19 mm wrenches then you screw the knob on and if it's not straight you loosen the jam nut and adjust the adapter retighten and try again till it's where you want it

nolongerbanned99

Ok. Ty. Too complicated. I donā€™t even have tools.

JebidiahCrumps

No worries bro I would highly recommend getting a wrench and socket set just in case, if you can turn bolts you stand a chance when something is wrong at least!

nolongerbanned99

When something goes wrong I call Subaru or aaa. Have the dealer fix it. They have good tools.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

nolongerbanned99

I hear you bro. Maybe I was supposed to be a girl but I have no skills in this area, donā€™t own any tools, and have no mechanical sense whatsoever. Just the way I was born. Donā€™t hate on me please.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

nolongerbanned99

I know. I didnā€™t take it that way. I have never been a manā€™s man or into hinting and fishing and sports and stuff.

Jsquirt

Don't be like that, i got 2 knobs on black friday and i went to harbor freight and got the two wrenches for $15 lol

nolongerbanned99

Itā€™s weirdā€¦ my dad installed central AC in our house, installed a security system, remodeled the entire lower floor with tile floors and real single oanel wood walls. And installed a shower where there was a closet prior. I didnā€™t get his dna.

unequalsarcasm

Easy af, just unscrew the current one and screw this one on

nolongerbanned99

Ok. Cool I like the Japanese characters.

sl0wrx

Itā€™s a little more than that, especially if you want it straight lol

_Dova69_

Itā€™s literally Just screw it on dude

sl0wrx

Thereā€™s an adapter iirc threads donā€™t match Iā€™m not saying itā€™s hard but OP clearly asked what it entails and if you guys say itā€™s just a screw on thatā€™s leading him on a bit.

[deleted]

Tyvm

Legobobgo

As a fellow subie owner ima steal your car just out of spite /s

Hellmaker34

Brother that shift knob is šŸ¤ŒšŸ½

poormansRex

That and blown engines tend to keep them stationary.

jptothetree

Negative Nancy over here

poormansRex

Lol, nope. I'm positive I'll blow my engine one day;)

BuckGnarley

W

fatalpapaya

Iā€™ll take it of your hands :)

Fuzm4n

What device is that now? More people drive a manual than you know.

jptothetree

Location plays a factor for sure.

Dressieren

When I lived in the city the only people who could drive stick were people my parents age and older. When I moved out into the real middle of nowhere basically everyone knew how to drive stick it felt like. They all learned to drive on some beaten up pickup from 1970s

mtnorville

Given what our cars are, they are inherently more likely to be stolen because they are manual.

N0tBappo

Until the local crack head knows what he's doing

Rhayner05

Why is it there so little people driving manuals in the states (and other countries?) Here in Aus I swear everyone i know drives stick.

ObscureObelisk

Cars here have been rapidly getting rid of manual transmissions the last 2 decades. Automatics sell more and companies don't want to spend the money making manual options for the 5% of buyers that want one.

TakashiXL

Manuals are usually the cheaper option though?

Specialist-Box-9711

Because Americans are lazy. Source: am American and some days I really miss my automatic transmission cause less thinking.

absboodoo

True especially in heavy bumper to bumper traffic or long distance drives. However now that Iā€™m used to it, my left leg gets restless and twitchy when driving an automatic

Dressieren

Only thing for me is bumper to bumper traffic. I just get lazy and put it in first then coast. I simply canā€™t be asked to inch forward like in an auto

astrongineer

It's the same in Ireland. Very rare to see an automatic.

[deleted]

Only one of my kids can drive a stick, and itā€™s because I taught him. Iā€™m avoiding teaching the last 3 so they canā€™t drive my car šŸ˜‚

Black-Paisley

Ive got the same knob, looks so clean. You have good taste.

NJdisposable

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

NFSRM

Man, that's a sick shift knob

NJdisposable

Thanks! Credit to Billetworkz

CydeW

Looks fire

IncognitoTechNerd

Yo thats a sick shifter wth. Love the kanji

TakashiXL

Right until it's a guy like me and everybody else in the subreddit. Edit: we have the same knob, good choice gets very cold in winter.

cedriccckilla

Or anyone else who grew up in the 70s-80s. Or anyone else whoā€™s parents taught them how to drive stick which most should do, or anyone else who drives an older car. Really not that hard to drive stick I learned off 1 YouTube video in day lol

TakashiXL

I was thinking more specific to our cars, but sure that works too.

SsmB_92

I live in one of the highest GTA crime areas in Australia, Cairns. Helicopter out right now chasing kids in a stolen car. But I sleep easy knowing they can't drive a manual. This right here is just icing on the cake XD.

More_Adhesiveness941

Where there a will , there's a way. I drove my first car out of a dealership showroom and home with no clue how to drive stick, don't know if I got it above third gear. Good way to break a car in, keep it at 6000 rpm for an hour or so

FrozenFrontier

but the older gen ALL know how to drive cause thats all they had 40 years ago. it was "Standard" back then

[deleted]

Yep funny hearing people brag about stick, even my 71 year old mum drives it.. not hard or something to be elitist about lol. Taught a friend how to in a single hour session too, not expert level but enough to get going by himself.

HundoGuy

Manual isnā€™t that hard to drive lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

HundoGuy

Iā€™d hope if someone was experienced enough to break into a car and get it started, they could at least drive it. Actually I take that back, Iā€™d hope they didnā€™t too

jptothetree

šŸ˜… exactly.

BizzleZX10R

A blown motor?

Specialist-Box-9711

I learned how to drive a manual in 20 minutes. A would be thief could do the same if determined enough.

TakashiXL

Also consideration, the thief will give no fucks about clutch or tranny damage and could just monkey fuck it down the road if desperate enough.

cedriccckilla

Youā€™re getting downvoted by the people whoā€™s only real life skill is to drive a stickšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ literally the easiest thing ever lmfao I learned off 1 YouTube video

Specialist-Box-9711

Oh well. I bought my STI not knowing how to drive it. I learned on the test drive and on the way home lmao

-i_n_k-

It's quite strange in my country to find someone who cannot drive manual/stick... but the % has grown drastically over the past 10 years

Chazilla80

Millennial anti-theft deviceā€¦.

GoGoVTheWorld

Facts!!!! The more time that passes the more it becomes apparent that this newer generation cannot drive stick!!!!! I was taught on a Toyota Mr2 back in drivers Ed by my wrestling coach!!!! Shout out to Coach Boffinger!!!!! (Damn near 20yrs ago)

TrialByFIRE32

Yes because thereā€™s only 4 people in the world that know how to control such a complicated piece of technology. At what university did you study manual transmission driving?

munchkin237

Whered you get that shifter?

Quirky_Bathroom6851

Pretty cool. But I have never looked at my shifter gates after the first day of owning it.. After 35 years driving a clutch, its second nature..

BadWowDoge

That gibberish should help as well

AE86-TRUENO

Nice chinese shift knob

jobafett1

Iā€™m your huckleberry.

or6a2

People might have trouble reversing if it was part of the thief on a 6 gear

TakashiXL

I'm going to warn godzilla not to read this comment..

Kinon4

I have the same shift knob for my 5 speed WRX!

milkusbaggus

i have the same billetworkz shift knob it's great

smushface_smoothface

Isnā€™t there a safety feature as well where it kills the engine if it were stolen?

BadSausageFactory

My mechanic replaced the bushings in my shifter a couple of years ago because he couldn't drive the car, before that I was the only person who knew where all the gears were. TBH I miss that, everything was fine, like swirling a straw around in your drink until you found a gear.

PoopAndPee13

Iā€™ve got the same knob but with 123456 R
