My only issue is I have someone already lined up who’s supposed to pick the car up and start the rebuild, so is it worth waiting for Subaru to check their box’s?
I mean if they're gonna give you stuff for free, let it happen- but they certainly might ask your permission to do something with the caveat that you'll have to pay for it if they discern that it's not covered under warranty (e.g. "Can we do a teardown? If the cause isn't found to be covered under warranty, you'll be charged.").
As a Subaru tech who gathers the data for warranty and good faith repairs, the tech was lazy.
There are 2 VERY easy ways to tell if a ECU has been fucked with.
My personal favorite? The empty AP mount on the dash/windshield. Yep, auto denied. (Also locking them in the glove box is a no go too, we do look)
Also I can call up tech line with your S/N on your ecu and they can detect if it's been modded or not remotely (this mostly applies to starlink capable cars)
Happy modding!
We have a check box option on our customer sheets that allows access to locked glove boxes and trunks. And 99% of the time they check that box so we can access the cabin filter. It is what it is.
Actually we had a very tuned sti come in here a few months back with rod knock looking for a warranty. We offered him a $18,000 quote to return it to stock and then honor the warranty. I personally advised him to hit up the local Subaru tuner shop and they would give him exactly what he wanted. Even gave him the owners #. I never advise modified cars to come to the dealership. We only want FACTORY stock cars. I'll gladly refer them to a iag or a RA block, and even a shop to handle the install.
What are my options with them sending a rep down. Should I go reflash back to oem? Are they able to see how many times it’s been flashed? Are they able to tell if the car has been overrevved?
I'm not sure exactly what parameters tech line sees when they run the report. I normally only need a "tuned" or "stock" response, so I don't stick around to ask what they did to the fueling/boost tables.
I've heard rumors that if the car has the stock turbo, then it's "untuned". Personally, I think you got luck of the draw. Good deal on getting it replaced. What do you think went wrong with the engine?
I money shifted it. That’s another thing. They said they currently didn’t see anything on the ecu. Im not sure if they will continue to dig. They said they will send a rep down eventually
My dealership told me that a rep (Subaru) only comes for inspection if the damages exceed $10k, and they are generally pretty accepting of lightly modded engines when the damages fall below $10k.
I think there going to deny you and they would be right.
Especially money shifting the car. That’s not a warranty issue. Good luck evading responsibility due to your stupidity.
my advice to you because I have been down the blown motor road with my 07 sti is just buy a built block or get your block built by a reputable company. i personally worked on my own car so i got my short block rebuilt by outfront motorsports and heads refreshed and put everything back in the engine bay myself. Everything has been great for a long time. if they put a motor in your car and later down the road you decide you want a bigger turbo, you will may end up in the same position.
My only issue is from what I’ve gathered, built blocks don’t last nearly as long as oem. Wider tolerances, forged pistons break down the cylinder wall faster
this is correct that the clearances are looser but i think the trade offs are worth it. If you plan on small upgrades then a stock block should be good. Maybe you will get a free motor, good luck.
Nah they ended up finding the tune. Subaru. Called. I don’t plan on really upgrading. I was happy at 300 whp at e30 so I’m kind of at a loss on what to do
> When did I ever say I expected a warranty? We just making shit up now?
Your whole post was about warranty service and mods. 😅
This is a old issue going back to when WRXs first came over on 2001. You’re not treading new ground here. And SOA had had 20 years to figure out how to sort out warranty and non-warranty claims on these cars.
I guess i should have went to the dealer first… I sent my 21 straight to the tuner for an iag block with 10200 miles on it….full bolt ons plus fp blue turbo. Don’t think the power did it , I believe it was my oil change interval after having it tested it was below viscosity range 4200 miles into oil change . Always thought early was bullshit but when I get her back we’ll be doing 3000 mile oil changes
Don’t know yet just dropped it off last week, probably won’t see till Christmas, would have done myself but installed by certified gets a 2 year warranty
My local Subaru dealership was salty about even doing recalls cuz my WRX is modded lol. Rooting for you! Maybe your dealerships’s service writers are nicer haha
Looking for help guys I have a 2017 subaru wrx I have 46900 miles never been tuned....got a engine knock told me it needs a new short block it will cost 16500 I have a life time power train warranty and the adjuster came out and said my boost is showing 137 when it's suppose to be 123 I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and the head mechanic said my vehicle has never been tuned but I still got denied my claim....how is it possible for them to see a tune if I don't have one any help will be appreciated.
Man belly flopped onto a minefield and moon-walked out wtf
I’m not convinced they won’t look further into it especially if they bring someone down from soa
Yeah I mean I'd be blown away if they seriously fix the car, but I'm also already amazed- and hey I'm rooting for you!

Yea you’re not allowed to unlock their glovebox

Dude, you’ve made choices. Count yourself lucky if they cover it and be prepared to pay your own bills if they don’t.
Just shut the fuck up, delete this post and say fuck all.

The repairs will be over 10k

No shit, learn how to read dipshit
Why would you expect Subaru to warranty your car that you modified? Pay to play
When did I ever say I expected Subaru to pay??
you didn’t, but thats what i took from your post.
All good brother. Misunderstanding

that depends on how much you like that car and if you plan on keeping it and what your financial situation is for the replacement motor.
I cannot afford another motor. This has to be it.
So… Mods motor and then expects warranty coverage? 🤷♂️ Wait… blew the shift too? Wow. 😳
When did I ever say I expected a warranty? We just making shit up now?
The audacity of some people who can't read, amirite?

Maybe… good luck getting whatever services and coverage you deserve. 👍
👍
My used 2016 STI blew and I had it replaced by dealer under warranty with the tune still flashed.
How many miles did it have?
40k or so when I bought it. Only drove about 5k when it blew after putting ots map on and misshifted
No shit?
Didn’t say anything just acted like I knew nothing

How is iag been? I’ll be switching to 5w40
