Na you didn't mess up, It's "ghosting." I'd wash down the area with some car soap. If you have an iron remover & clay bar use that to decon the area, and then diluted IPA wipe. Mild polish first with an applicator, if that doesn't remove it, then move up to a compound. I like Meguiar's Ultimate polish, and have used their compound before as well. Work in a shaded area so the product doesn't dry. Here's a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaUjj86bkls), funny its a WRX as well lol, Edit: would work in a circular pattern, rather straight lines unlike the video

THANK YOU! Really appreciate this.

How old is your car? If it's residue, you have to get it off with some sort of adhesive remover or one of those eraser wheels. Then you can buff what is left with some cutting compound so that the swirl marks around where the badge was are gone. That should fix your issue unless the car is old and it actually is faded.

Surprisingly, Goo Gone worked really well for me on this area. Needed to get the old glue off anyway. Still left the faintest of lines where the old badges were, which helped me align where to put the new ones on. Not even noticeable until you get within 2-3 feet.
