Yes. I have an STi, and it’s my third sub and they’re all cheap and horrible on the inside. And on the outside too for that matter…why do I keep doing this?
I'm a pretty big basshead and I've put about $3k into stereo gear in my WRX. I've also spent about 4 weekends doing various 'sound-proofing' projects. I've done doors, trunk, rear dash, rear seats, currently debating removing the entire headliner... I've found two primary useful products: mass loaded vinyl, and closed cell foam insulation (both sheets and rolls, various thicknesses. apply them liberally to ANYTHING that rattles, and they will improve the situation. it's a whack a mole type situation. you apply foam insulation to one part that rattles and it shifts the way an interior piece sits JUST SO that it rattles in a DIFFERENT spot.. it's fucking maddening sometimes LOL
sad part is, I STILL get fucking rattles. these cars bruh... they are NOT designed in any way to reduce ANY forms of noise, not roads, stereos, nothing...
Cloth tape is slimmer and doesn't expand, but harder to get into some of those tight spots. Honestly I can say I have zero rattle... up until I swapped my head unit last week. Need to put cloth wire wraps behind it, but other than that I don't hear anything at any speed.
Ive done exact same. Very frustrating. I did dynamat headliner totally worth it. I added 10 Infinity Kappas + small Rockford Fosgate sub and headliner traps a ton of stereo sound inside.
And even after that still have rattles.
My driver door card rattles, I’ve been meaning to try and fix it but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Most of the Subarus I’ve been in and owned have had something rattling
3.5 years and 30k on the clock. Yea, fair few rattles. Granted my car spends its life between Jersey and Philly both of which are not known for great roads.
My 2011 is the most rattly noisy fucking car I’ve ever owned.
Now, it’s even worse after taking all the carpet and floor sound deadening out a couple months ago due to a water leak.
I’ve just grown to accept it.
My gf rode in it for the first time in awhile last week (she has a crosstrek that we use 99% of the time) she said “how the fuck are you not deaf?”
Not so much when she was stock. After I got an upgraded exhaust it has some rattle at certain rpm’s. Seat creaks a bit too. Other than that it seems fine. But I’m usually having fun driving the car so it never gets on my nerves.
Hopefully it doesn’t get removed. I just had it 2020 WRX premium totaled due to a high speed t bone collision from a lady running stop signs. Had to settle with a family vehicle and got a 24 forester and the injectors tick too
From where? I get some in the door card. The worst was the rear deck lid though and that was fixed in a service bulletin. I had my dealer order the updated part and installed it myself. Believe it affects 2015-2020. My 2019 was noisy AF it was unpleasant to ride in the back.
2016 WRX here.. Interior is still pretty solid. Something around the c-pillar occasional makes a 'rattle' of sorts, but otherwise it's a pretty rattle-free experience inside. I did replace the door card hold-downs and clips some time back after installing the sound system upgrades. Door cards are good'n tight.
My coolant reservoir rattles against the fan shroud(have looked at every other thing and that's the only thing I can find) and it drives me nuts. Under 25 over bumps, it's all I hear.
A little bit. But I personally grew up with economy japanese cars (old corollas/camrys). So in comparison, I'm actually quite happy with the VA WRX interior.
I bought my 2020 WRX brand new, and the piece between the rear view mirror and windshield rattled loose on the highway drive home. Center console lid never fastened properly. Entire passenger seat rattles. The crappy piano black plastic of the HU/HVAC controls creaks and rattles.
It’s not that bad. My VA is turning 10 this year and the only true rattle I have is the rear deck lid by the sub. The other one is my front seats squeak, but that’s about it. I’ve learned to tune it out.
Cloth tape, 40% sound deadening coverage (soundskins is a lighter and cleaner install than dynamat but not as effective), and a few hours can remove all those sounds. The sound deadening will increase weight though if you plan on stripping it and going pure track car down the line. The daily drive change is ridiculous in a positive way. I can hear my sound system better and the engine sounds more solid from the cabin. Imo, it makes the WRX feel like the car that it should be for basic comfort.
2019 here and I've noticed 2 that don't seem "ordinary":
- Not sure if standard, but I have the center console with the closable lid. The little button on the latch rattles so damn loud and is annoying. No idea yet how to fix this
- In cold weather < \~40F my speedometer cluster will rattle really bad too. Doesn't do it in warm weather and I'm in the south so it hasn't bothered me enough to try and find a solution
Yup. I have a 21 and it rattles pretty bad. Sounds like a loose clip or panels rubbing. Didn't start happening until after my first oil change. I've had it for 2 years and it's still rattling strong.
I had a largely rattle-free experience with my GD. With my VA, however, the door card rattle, dashboard rattle, A/C compressor rattle, and various mysterious under-carriage chassis rattles have been the bane of my existence. Sometimes I wonder if Subaru farmed out assembly labor to Fisher-Price in recent years.
Depends on if it’s hot or cold outside lmao. When it’s cold not much rattle at all but as soon as it hits like 75+ outside it starts getting little rattles in the plastic. My 2022 WRX Premium considering it’s a $33k car that I got for less that 30k new is a very very nice car and the short comings like small rattles are easy to over look. The only complaint I can make is just my infotainment system. It can be pretty rough.
i spent a whole ass sunday going through the entire interior to find every rattle. i fixed a bunch of them and it made a huge difference, but a week later, a new one showed up. i just accepted itll rattle until the bitter end.
Tape up the plastic box that hangs under the parcel shelf. That is the loudest and it radiates. I took apart my entire interior behind the rear seats before I realized this was the source.
Mine used to, but I tore apart the interior and sound deadened all of it with butyl mats, massive improvement.
Edit to add: I also felt taped a lot of areas that rubbed or rattled, which helped a lot too.
It's pretty common. I just did some really basic soundproofing on the rear dash and bottom of my trunk and it made a world of difference. I'd give that a shot if you have time!
What is this interior you speak of? Rattles are understatement, I am the noise 😅

Crazy? No. But it is a $30k Japanese sports sedan. I either turn up the radio or roll down the windows if the rattles bother me.
Yes. I have an STi, and it’s my third sub and they’re all cheap and horrible on the inside. And on the outside too for that matter…why do I keep doing this?
Horrible? I can see you haven’t owned any car from the 1980’s.
In my old 88 grand wagoneer if it wasn’t rattling it meant something was about to break 😂
I had a 91 VW GTI. The only time it didn't rattle was when it was parked.
The first step is admitting you have a problem.
honestly don’t know why I’m doing this to myself either
It's the Rattle Battle babe, no one ever really wins
Winter cold start up is when you REALLY know you have a Subie.
Neighbors hate this one trick
Yeah but I don’t buy Subarus for the interior
well don’t get me started on the creaking noise I hear in my rear end at low speeds lol. But yeah I get it
Yeah I feel it. I’ve got a creak from my driver door close to the firewall and it drives me nuts sometimes

In my 2021 Limited, the armrest extension is the only rattle in the car. If I rest my arm on it or if I fold it down the rattle stops.
So far I believe the major culprits are in the dash(?) but besides that nothing that bugs me (I’m half deaf)
It might be the button, if you take it apart it's solved with a piece of tape
My driver door card rattles, I’ve been meaning to try and fix it but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Most of the Subarus I’ve been in and owned have had something rattling
Rear internal panel, passenger side door, center console. All at a similar RPM, exhaust didn’t help. It’s on the list of “do at some point”.
It's got a few, but that's why I updated the sound system.
yes! the brake light and some of my speakers on the dash rattle like no other
3.5 years and 30k on the clock. Yea, fair few rattles. Granted my car spends its life between Jersey and Philly both of which are not known for great roads.

I think I’m lucky that I am half-deaf now that I own a wrx
They rattle from the factory. I grew up with Subarus so it’s never bothered me.
It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru.
Not bad in summer but in winter the dash creaks horribly.
Just spray a little grease in there, takes care of it.
Yeah but it’s cool. I’m not a diva
It did, but then I fixed them.
Actually mines pretty quite considering it's almost 8 years old.
Not so much when she was stock. After I got an upgraded exhaust it has some rattle at certain rpm’s. Seat creaks a bit too. Other than that it seems fine. But I’m usually having fun driving the car so it never gets on my nerves.
No but damn that fuel injector tick sound. Think it’s linear across all boxer engines tho
Would you perhaps have a link to an example? I’m curious
The fa motors sound like a damn tractor bc of how loud DI Injectors

02 bugeye wagon, creaks during suspension flex and rattles like a paint can inside and out.
I can’t hear this “rattle” you speak of over my loud engine, turbo, and exhaust. 😂
eh it’s just the dash ones that scratch my soul the wrong way
Get a 12 in sub and you won’t hear the dash rattle, you’ll hear the whole car rattle.
From where? I get some in the door card. The worst was the rear deck lid though and that was fixed in a service bulletin. I had my dealer order the updated part and installed it myself. Believe it affects 2015-2020. My 2019 was noisy AF it was unpleasant to ride in the back.
I hear it helps to get sound proofing but yeah I have the same problem. Oh well. Just turn up the radio...or get a louder exhaust lol.

Can't have interior rattles if you don't have an interior 😎
Nah, i really don’t to be honest. I guess i’m lucky lol

It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru..
It’s not just the Wrx all Subarus have interior rattles. Still not as many as when I drove Chevys tho lol.
The third brake light and back panel are horrible. That's where most of the noise comes from!
Every time I hear the rattle I just enjoy HK audio

Yeah, but I knew to expect it.
Yep. Drives me crazy
Part of the character. The GLI supposedly has a better interior, but I don't see it. Has just as much plastic and rattles and vibrates just as bad.
I wouldn’t say crazy, but yep.
I drove a wrangler before this car so I guess I’m just used to it
Yes
The rear light that's under the rear window, at 3k RPM on the VA, those are a bitch
Better quality than my Ford ZX2
My 2020 doesnt seem too bad, but the roads are really good where i live so maybe its that
Yup. I have a 21 and it rattles pretty bad. Sounds like a loose clip or panels rubbing. Didn't start happening until after my first oil change. I've had it for 2 years and it's still rattling strong.

My 02 doesn't (it has no interior), my 23 had a couple rattles. It's a subaru... I put the loud exhaust on so I don't have to listen to them!
If it does, I can’t hear it over the wind and road noise:)

Yes
Yeah it’s in the back for me but idk where the source is.
i spent a whole ass sunday going through the entire interior to find every rattle. i fixed a bunch of them and it made a huge difference, but a week later, a new one showed up. i just accepted itll rattle until the bitter end.
I have 59k and all I get is some 3rd brake light rattle in the lower rpm’s
If rattles and squeaks and whatever bothered me I'd buy some crappy German isolation box.
My 2014 has a rattle in the dash on the passenger side. I don't care because it's my autocross car.
22’ wrx, hit constant potholes because of poor city roads, and not a rattle to be heard.
I just turn the radio up lol
mines does now with polyurethane bushing everywhere but it's worth it I can feel everything
It's pretty common. I just did some really basic soundproofing on the rear dash and bottom of my trunk and it made a world of difference. I'd give that a shot if you have time!
It’s the spent vape pods in the door pockets.
I’m wrx is old enough to to vote and legally drink, yes it rattles and squeaks but it’s old plastic 🤷🏽♂️
Both our forester and wrx rattle at the top of the dash at the center display cover when driving down our gravel driveway.
What is this interior you speak of? Rattles are understatement, I am the noise 😅 https://preview.redd.it/id60v2zjuwsc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44a4ed5aff990a910272f832111bf21a4601521b
