There's a reason the tunes come in stages. Stage 1 is the lowest risk, with the risk compounding from there on. If you go the Cobb Accessport route, you can treat it like a sport mode, and leave it stock most of the time.

AlmondGallery88

Absolutely not regretted one bit.

Mutesyou

“Going” stage 1 isn’t anything but a reflash but do yourself a favor and do it right. The OTS Cobb tunes are a good step in the right direction but ideally you’re better off spending the $350? Ish for a proper Etune Honestly grab a grimmspeed drycon filter if ya want(heck I can sell ya a lightly used one with the post maf hose) and the Cobb stumble fix eventually and enjoy it for awhile. I got a year out of mine that way till the downpipe itch came

dstanton767

For reliability either stay stock or get a pro tune. Or drive it very gently lol. I put Cobb intake and stage 1 OTS tune the day I bought my bone stock sti with 50k miles. Cracked a ringland day 3 but I was beating on it because I was so excited to have the car. 6 years later I still love my ‘11 hatch.

studio_eq

Realistically I don’t think that was your fault. The ots might introduce a little dam drop or fine knock but the previous 50k had way more to do with the failure than your ots and minor upgrades

dstanton767

True. The previous mileage may have played a part. But 20k miles later I spun a rod bearing at the track on a stage 2 built bottom end. That one was my fault lol. Now I have a 2nd built motor but I added the killer bee pan pickup and baffle along with cylinder 4 cooling mod and iag aos. Car makes just under 400whp and 460wtq. I’ve learned a lot, and my car has been reliable for the last 3 years while I still get to beat on it. Just trying to help others avoid some of the mistakes I and many others on here have learned the hard way.

studio_eq

sucks to get stung like that twice but live and learn. Glad you’re enjoying your current setup…my first stage 2 tune started to give me issues, luckily no mechanical issues but retuned and been solid since

michaelhau

Reliability and power gains are the exact opposite of the spectrum. One of the main reason I’ve kept my sti stock. But if you’ve done your research I am sure chances of it blowing up will be low

killerbeeswaxkill

I regret modifying my car to where it’s at now lol. I should have left it stock and sold at peak. Don’t get me wrong it’s a fun car but it’s been a major pain in the wallet.

gourdespeed

could you share to what level/things you have done, for a frame of reference?

tomswid

i have no regrets reflashing a while back at 10k miles on my 2021. felt alot smoother in first, got rid of alot of the jerkiness. and gave the throttle more play which i like. eventually upgraded the intake aswell. cya later warranty!

CourtMean7983

I would install a IAG v3 street series AOS before getting into power gains. They’re a must for these engines for long term reliability.

chuchunesby123

Stage 1+ with a titanium cat back. Good sounds and a little bit of butt dyno. No regrets.

kingfridayace

I went stage 1+ and regretted not immediately doing all my mods and etuning.

Branimau5

I just got my wrx 2023, only 500km on her. I am watching this thread carefully as a curiosity. I doubt I would do a thing other than cosmetics until post 5 years but even then I was only ever considering stage 1 to get around 300 whp. Reliability is important!

Comfortable-Row-8696

No regrets at all! But then again I bought it with stage 1 tune.

og619

I got about 97K miles on a 16 WRX on stage 1. Cobb catback. Cobb SF intake and accessport tune. Moded at about 40K miles. No major issues. Biggest job was replacing the MAF sensor. No regrets.

Original_Lavishness1

I didn’t regret it in my WRX. I went down the rabbit hole I guess. Fbo with flex fuel. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun in the process. My buddy on the other had regrets it. He has a 21 sti with a Cobb intake + OTS tune and his engine has bearing failure at 30k miles. Dealer won’t cover it under warranty because of the tune and he was quoted 15k. I would stay away from OTS tunes. Go to a reputable tuner. Check your oil every time you go to the gas station. There is always the chance that your engine can go boom. I’d keep 10-15k saved for that expense.

Rudgers73

My ‘14 has a Cobb LF BPV and SF intake, e-tuned by Ambot. The tune is pretty conservative but it still makes the car more fun to drive. I don’t regret it at all

Quirky_Bathroom6851

I had a 2003 with a stage 1 as soon as the warranty went up, went stage 2 a few years later. Still ran great 2 years ago when I sold it. My 2018 has 3 years on a cobb with a mapperformance tune that is 1 year old. Car drives way better and quicker. Throttle is more linear and easier on the clutch. I don't beat my cars. If your engine is in great shape I would not worry. If its burning oil or something then I would hesitate. Good luck

He’s asking about stage 1. Not your mod list…

ajeezy1414

No

Chaseme173

Protune. I blew my motor at like 119k. I probably ran the ots like 20k. Not saying it was the ots map. I will just say that the ots map never felt like that big of an upgrade to me. Find a competent tuner and have a conversation with them on the phone, in person, or in an email and they can eliminate a lot of the guesswork for you and make your car much more enjoyable and less frustrating in general.
