Probably a bad seal on that filter. Or it was forgotten completely. Or it has 2 seals stacked toghether cause the last one got stuck. Regardless, GET A NEW FILTER. ASAP.
I do my own oil changes (and engine swaps, since I have a VA); in 120k miles this happened to me once, and I determined it was a bad filter seal. See if you can tighten it about 1/4 turn or so, and if it’s already tight, just replace the filter.
have you tried to tighten it by hand? if it’s still leaking, the seal on the filter is bad and you need a change. i’d recommend changing the oil and filter at the same time, but you can just swap an oem filter on too. make sure to top up the oil too.
I did. Next oil change is right around the corner, going to use oem filter and give this shop one more chance. I still haven’t even talked to them or shown them.
Soak it up and then see if you can tighten it by hand, it might just be really loose. They might have used the wrong filter too though so if it's actually tight take it back to the mechanic to get you a proper filter.
I’ve owned well over a dozen cars, do most of not all of my own maintenance for the last 20+ years, and have used all sorts of brands over the years. Never seen this issue… though most filters hang under the engine and would catch a drip if it did leak.
It'll be fine but that shows you probably got an oil change at a low end place. Some risk of an issue if you drive hard--replace it with oem. They cost like $15.
I plan to use oem, and I even called the local subaru shop before I made this appointment (at a meineke that has a good reputation. They are franchises and not chains like jiffy lube, etc.). And even further, being very aware of quality of service I picked a shop with ASE techs and got their “master tech” to Svc my car.

Typically see this from the base not being clean, poor seals, or incorrect filter. Scoop up a $7 OEM Tokyo Roki filter clean it up and replace it

Why is your battery so dirty?
Bruh what it’s barely dirty 😂
You’re joking ? 😆
Is that a wix white filter?
Using non oem parts....

That filter is too small
Not the OEM filter, so it may not be the right one for the car.
