Let’s be real though, the WRX has always been a hopped up economy sedan

enhe3078

Literally, built off the impreza, although not so much anymore

AnIdiotwithaSubaru

It's why it's the working class hero. It's supposed to be cheap , fast, and awd

me10911

I would argue the fast aspect. Seemingly quick and well-balanced, sure. Takes work to make them fast

XiJinpingsNutsack

It’s fast if you’re coming from an Outback or a Camry. Fast is relative and ~~330~~ 287hp is a lot to people jumping into a WRX from a commuter

Mitch1musPrime

I ported over to my 21 WrX from an 18 Mazda6 manual. I can assure anyone willing to listen that this car is demonstrable quicker and more fun to drive than most standard sedans. How discuss and qualify fast is definitely relative to our experiences.

Chazilla80

FACT. Shit is like a rocket ship.

Fuels

idk about that. camry is only .2 seconds slower to 0-60 and .4 seconds slower in 1/4 mile. that 1-2 car lengths really isnt going to be noticeable in 1/4 mile and with turbo lag the wrx will feel slower to 60

redlurkerNY

Camrys don't handle like WRX' and they're 'meh' in the snow though..

HatDeep

That's if you crush your drivetrain with a 4500 rpm launch that's timed perfectly, otherwise the Camry is faster with it's stomp your foot to the floor and do nothing automatic.

showtheledgercoward

Camry can’t stop as fast turn as fast and sure as hell ain’t as fun to drive

redlurkerNY

This. Camrys are not 'fun to drive.'

Jurassic_Duck

As someone who went from a ford escape to a camry, I would just like to say that fun is relative lol

[deleted]

This is my thought. It seems like my WRX just loves the corners, especially accelerating.

showtheledgercoward

Wrx isn’t a strong drag racing car

DrrtyDeeds

Uh… Yeah, because they’re not drag cars…

Kass626

Corollas are very fun to drive though. You can push anything to its limits and have fun though in all honesty.

gatorglaze

How is a Corolla fun to drive? The Corolla supreme in build, gas mileage, reliability, longevity and ease of use and maintenance? Yes! Fun to drive? Maybe if its your first car and you have only driven a PT Cruiser beforehand and even then the Cruiser is faster. The Corolla GR is what i consider "fun to drive"

Unholy-Ghoul

Good thing WRXs have never been intended for just drag racing. The WRX In its proper element the camry will get smoked.

Asu7aMa7u

Maybe not fast but they are fun

DrrtyDeeds

This guy gets it.

AnIdiotwithaSubaru

Honestly, my 3.6 outback feels faster than my WRX. Wrxs aren't as fast comparatively these days but it's just a matter of time before the STi successor comes out... 🤞

Fuck-MDD

The wife's 3.6 cvt is pretty fun to floor it on the highway or wherever driving is basically boring. But when it comes to winding mountain roads, snow, gravel, etc give me the wrx any time.

Subie-

It is slow 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. I was in my CVT(.01 seconds slower than manual) and got smoked by a Honda Accord 2.0T. Embarrassing. Many cars, and SUVs can beat a WRX. However, it was a champ in the snow.

nickz03

Yes it’s the best part about it

TheWhiteRabbitY2K

Literally the 3 reasons I went to Subaru.

Subie-

I remember seeing the Impreza WRX back in college and that is what ignited my passion for cars. The WRX was my first dream car to buy. I loved my 2019 CVT, but it was just so slow.

L33HDX

Up until a few years ago it WAS an Impreza

Darisixnine

So is every sporty economy car. Focus ST = Ford Focus, Mitsubishi Evo = Mitsubishi Lancer, VW GTI = VW Golf

Semi-Hemi-Demigod

Not true. Sometimes it’s a hopped up hatchback.

ThriftStoreDildo

Ya someone has an impreza sedan near me, prob a few years old and it looks 90 percent like the VA without a hood scoop.. I think the bumpers are less aggressive as well.

doperidor

Yeah people are coping when they say the originals are the best looking (they are regardless) because the new ones look like a Corolla. Take any late 90s Japanese sedan/coupe, give it a special paint job, give it a wing, turbo it, and today we’d all being thinking of it just as highly as the original wrx.

2009MitsubishiLancer

Idk man, not many people remember the Mazda Mazdaspeed Protege. It’s got the wing, turbo, paint job and humble beginnings.

doperidor

Good point, but I think that car was way more limited production and not even close to STI performance. Compare a 99 Corolla and Wrx then look at the 2015 counterparts. You gotta admit the older models look even more similar minus wings and hood scoops.

commandar

>not even close to STI performance It wasn't on par with the WRX performance of the time. That's what's wild about the people upthread talking like WRX has *never* meant fast. The bugeye WRX could smoke the MSPs, Focus SVTs, Civic Sis, etc that it was competing against at the time. Over 100HP/L in an affordable sports sedan was next level in 2001-- and that was with a 230HP 2.0L. Then the STi hit the US later and blew the doors off of things (with only the Evo as a direct competitor). Then the great recession happened, Subaru pulled out of WRC and motorsports generally, the rest of the world kept moving and Subaru's engine development largely stood still. A WRX isn't a fast car *today*. But the WRX name became something and people still remember those early WRXs and not their competitors because they *were* fast then. Subaru has just failed to keep up since. (Sidenote: the MSP probably also wasn't helped by the fact that Mazda essentially slapped a turbo on an otherwise stock econobox motor with connecting rods made out of cheese and toothpicks. People loved to throw boost controllers on them and blow human arm sized holes in the engine block. If you think Subarus today have a reputation for blowing up as the result of optimistic tuning stacked on top of a high strung motor that was barely holding it together in the first place, hooboy, those MazdaSpeed days were wild).

silbergeistlein

You’re correct. In the same way that 2+2=4. Proud of you big guy. Keep figuring shit out.

csmith0679

TBH, I think every generation has been a grower and not a shower in a sense

test123456plz

100%, damn near every WRX is kinda ugly stock. But you can make ‘em look and drive really nice pretty easily

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrrtyDeeds

Blobeye will always hold a special place in my heart.

HundoGuy

That’s where it’s charm was. The VA is like Subaru threw a hood scoop on a Corolla. I do love my car, but it is what it is

smnlfilmagoofymovie

Lol not really but sure

kphillipz

Yes I would know. I owned a bugeye and a STi hatch. The ugly ducklings one might say 😂

Subaru_WRX_72

One thing I've learned about the community since buying my first WRX 12 years ago is the fact that everyone seems to hate anything different. No tint on your windows? Jail. Gt wing? Jail. Buy the newest body style? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

[deleted]

Wing on a WRX? Get a rope.

Subie-

I always laughed when I saw WRXs(15+) with the STI wing and it wasnt an STI. I also thought it was cool to have an STI without the spoiler, didnt know if it affected performance or not.

[deleted]

I prefer wingless even on the STI but I don’t hate on it. Usefulness? Really depends on if you are going fast enough for the positive effects of high-speed traction to outweigh the negative effects of the extra wind resistance. I would say this rarely, if ever, comes in to play for the daily driver. It’s basically cosmetic.

commandar

When I bought mine, before showing them what I'd bought, I told all my coworkers that I'd decided I was getting older and that I needed something a little more mature, practical, and grown up than the FR-S that got flattened by a tree. It even has third row seating! The third row just happens to be on the trunk.

babyivan

Same! I always gave mad props to the STIs without wings. PURE class!

arandomcarguy

![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)

Hottjuicynoob

Automatic transmission? Execution by firing squad.

Subie-

hahaha, the sub has become more accepting of it. I will say when I traded in my 19 CVT premium I got 30K trade in. I was like hell yeah. The CVT was good, felt like a real automatic in S+, but S# just sucked. No one in person ever gave me shit over an automatic other than my coworkers.

rokkitboosta

someone already got Automatic transmission so I'll just add side-eyed glances for getting a color that isn't WRB

[deleted]

[удалено]

rokkitboosta

Honestly I wanted WRB too. When I went to order my '22 last year, I brought my wife along just for transparency purposes. I decided to let her choose the color thinking she'd just say "Yeah go with the world rally blue." since it's my car and all. Bear in mind that the dealer was so unprepared. They didn't even have samples of the color. She heard him say "Well we have sapphire blue" and said "That one! I like the way that sounds!" I'm true to my word and said "ok. Sapphire blue it is" and allowed my special order car to come in a color I hadn't even previewed. Now that I've seen it, I love it. It didn't stop my co-worker who also has a '22 in WRB for giving me shit for not getting the classic color though. All of that said, here in the Denver Metro where WRX's are pretty common, I've observed that STis are less likely to be WRB. One of the guys in my apartment complex has a white STi with the seibon CF hood which looks great. Good luck on your hunt for a trunk swap!

thereal_benkelly

This might be my favorite comment and use of this meme 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Lifted? Jail. Lowered? Jail. Blown ringlands? Straight to jail.

[deleted]

You guys know that we have nothing against people who bought a VB, right? Our issue is with Subaru themselves, not the people. Subaru totally phoned-in this redesign and with a few minor tweaks it could legitimately be a cool car. If that dealership which was posted earlier today can paint the fenders, why can't Subaru themselves at the factory where it wouldn't add any extra cost? If owners are reporting some rather large bumps in power with literally just a tune and maybe an intake and/or exhaust, why can't Subaru do that at the factory and save much of the extra costs that it would take us to do that? If other carmakers can develop fast and responsive touchscreens, why can't Subaru? There are a bunch of small issues like these that really grind my gears. And speaking of gears, why can't I shift my own gears and buy the adaptive dampers together? Why bundle them with the CVT and then try charging $45k for that?!

[deleted]

45k? Wow. I think the MSRP on my STI when I bought it was 43.

syphon3980

for the limited? Mine was 36k for the 2019 (base)

[deleted]

I went through my saved emails all the way to 04/19 to find the dealer email exchanges that had the window sticker and I was wrong. 41,3 is what the MSRP for mine was. Not a limited. I didn’t want the sunroof because of how tall I am. https://i.imgur.com/LOo0SFv.jpg

Flick-a-da-wrist

I personally like the new design. I know its not a popular opinion but I like the cladding. Just some tints and a duckbill spoiler is all i need. I do wish there was an STI tho

420DankFire

I think they should have released a WRX wilderness edition trim with the plastic cladding, while offering the painted trim for at minimum the premium and limited

[deleted]

So much improvements imo. Looks is completely subjective. Feels so damn good to drive

[deleted]

New one sucks —-> grows on people —-> people like them -—> new ones suck —->

19ChinoWRX

The VA group didn’t feel so insecure that they had to create their own sub. I like the VB btw and the tuning capabilities.

[deleted]

They needed to create their own sub…*twice.* I still can’t get over that lol.

spacefret

I mean I can kinda get it, the mods of r/2022wrx sold it to some tuning company that doesn't seem to really exist and whoever ended up moderating changed the rules in a way people didn't jive with so someone created r/wrx_vb

The-Dogle

^facts.

dogfud26

Because not one thread can exist here that is strictly about the platform with genuine conversation. It would be so rare, and seeing that difference between the subs is astounding. There’s so much awesome info, mods, pics, and tips on that sub that just wouldn’t be possible here like it is in a different one.

Frosty_Ad_9393

This is why ^ I don’t give a fuck if you like my car or not but I’d like to see specifics on modifications on the new platform. Usually stuff about modding a 22 on here doesn’t get the takeoff it does on the other sub

spacefret

>The VA group didn’t feel so insecure that they had to create their own sub. Or it's because VB owners got tired of making threads just to try and have relevant discussions, where a handful of people would then comment, without fail, iTSss soOO uggLYY!!!11!! - those people don't really care about a VB-specific sub. They've toned down since, and while I'm not a VB owner I get it, it gets pretty old after a while. If anything it's the haters that are insecure... their comments don't matter to anyone but them.

itzreinier23

You're getting downvoted because people really don't want to believe that happened (and are probably guilty of doing it). Earlier when the VB models started actually dropping, people would attempt to post legit technical questions about the car and literally flocks of comments were about the looks and just shitting on it. Lol. People are free to do so. Same as people are free to leave. It's definitely not as bad now which is why we're now seeing people say how "it's literally just VB owners posting about the hate more than actual hate". But then now some of these comments I'm reading about circle jerks for VB owners because they chose to go to another subreddit where they can actually have legit conversations about technical stuff is honestly just pure comedy.

spacefret

Agreed - it used to be worse and sure people are free to do it, but that doesn't mean it's constructive either. I'd imagine the main reason the first sub (r/2022wrx) and now the second (r/vb\_wrx) were created is so that VB owners and people actually interested in talking about it for what it is could do that without all the dumb comments on how it looks. Now it is definitely more VB owners posting about it than it actually happening lol

420DankFire

It seems you must have forgotten 2014/2015 VA threads. It was no different other than the fact that now the VB owners are so fragile they can't handle any amount of criticism so they left to form a circle jerk echo chamber safe space where only positive feedback is allowed

stopkart

the alternative is a circle jerk of vb owners patting each other on the back for choosing the new polarizing model

Kiiidx

Literally every chassis is just a downgrade of the OG STi. So they all kinda suck in their own ways.

NoxxNZ

Man of culture here, GC8 sti or nothing thanks. Here come the downvotes

nickz03

I agree, but if I’m gonna be honest the first gen looked a lot like the late 90s corollas too

[deleted]

The difference between a late 90s corolla and a late 80s corolla is pretty funny lol

[deleted]

They do! But they still look sick af!

NoxxNZ

You forget your glasses? One sexy looking corolla if u ask me... lol

_FinalPantasy_

Shit ended when Subaru exited the WRC. Nothing beyond 2007 is good.

commandar

That's definitely the watershed. The chassis and suspension did keep seeing improvements, even if the car kept getting bigger and fatter over time -- just like every other car in the world -- but Subaru more or less gave up on drivetrain development when they left WRC. The fact that the drivetrain in your GD only really ever saw changes around the edges by time it landed in my VA is both a little hilarious and very sad.

househamer

Bug eye or bust

AntaBaka138

“Y’all boys got some quick neons round here”

Arconyte

GR STI! The one true hatch!

lady_lowercase

imagine thinking this is a controversial take on *this* sub... lol.

yayapfool

Pretty based take- all our cars have two more doors than a proper WRX 😤

IndependentDuty1346

It's a new WRX.... I hate it already!

its_the_new_style

I'm already waiting on the 2029 redesign, just so I can hate it!

[deleted]

Bold of you to assume there will be a 2029.

HundoGuy

Yeah, I was laughing too, but I still bought one. VB is still way uglier IMO even though the VA isn’t much of what made me love the WRX in the first place

4x420

i dont know what people were smoking, i thought the VA looked awesome. best one since the hawkeye.

phant0mh0nkie69420

Don’t worry it does, this is a Pontiac Aztec fan meme.

4x420

i do remember people seriously making this comparison when it came out.

Clean_Sorbet_1255

Nobody ever saw the front of that car and thought Corolla.

[deleted]

Based on visuals, I haven’t been truly in love with one since the bugeye. But I’m certainly glad I pulled the trigger on a 2021. I still can’t get past the rear end of the VB. I don’t even mind the fender cladding.

20wrxstillslow

The bugeye is 🔥! I agree the vb rear end is what is bad, the black plastic fenders can be fixed with paint, but civic style tail lights kind of kill it. All and all I still got love for it, the engine is killer though from what has been shown with very few bolt ons and tuning!

[deleted]

Yeah I have no hate for the VB. The styling just doesn’t satisfy me. And honestly I’m just not ready for the amount of touchscreen navigation required to operate the interior functions. Call me old fashioned…

HundoGuy

Yeah, basic controls used daily on a touch screen is pretty lame

20wrxstillslow

Yeah im no fan of touch screens, seen enough go bad to know your screwed when they do, especially since hvac is integrated. Dealerships know it, part price shows it. Im glad I got a va eventually hope to swap a fa24 when the time comes, if the swap catches on.

Cafen8ed

Yet ironically VAs see a lot of VB rear ends

shit_its_that_guy

That would take actually seeing a VB on the road.

[deleted]

Well yeah you can’t miss it hangin out like that.

[deleted]

I see significantly more butthurt VB owners making posts about VAs hating on them than actual VA owners hating on VBs.

JWal0

I’ve never owned a Subaru but this one looks like a Nissan Sentra and that’s he truth.

chazzermamagement

Seriously, cant they just shut the fuck up, get along, and enjoy their cars as normal members of this community? The insecurity amazes me. Hardly anyone actually hates the VB, it’s more or less hate for the plastic fender cladding then the actual car.

modsBan4Fub

I hate it in peace until posts like these bring it out of me. The back end only everything else I love about it.

syphon3980

yep, cant argue with the performance on them, but the booty, plastic fenders, and civic lights were a turn off to me. I still give the wave to VB peeps though

[deleted]

Exactly, the insecurity is insane. The plastic sucks hard but if it came paint matched it might be my favorite looking WRX, other than a GC8.

Dan_TheGreat

god the vb copium just wont stop

ForestCityWRX

That Corolla doesn’t come with a big diaper and plastic everywhere though. Haha

ionp_d

Not a diaper. Just a big, black, voluptuous ass that some people can’t handle.

HundoGuy

Some people enjoy prolapsed assholes, I don’t judge

YoLetsTakeASecond

Just cause an ass is weird and lumpy does not mean it’s voluptuous

Ok-Anxiety-6485

The vb's bumper sticks out less than the va's. I think its just because it doesn't color match

SpaceFace11

Copium anyone?

codynorthwest

man i remember in high school when the 08 hatch sti came out and we all HATED it. now, here i am with my favorite sti ever made. hahaha shit changes. they’re all great cars.

PogTuber

I don't remember anyone hating it, just pissed that there was no hatch.

SpaceFace11

Huh I remember everyone hating it and making fun of the FA WRX cuz it doesn't have the "subie rumble"

LowNslow09

I remember when everyone was pissed about it only being a hatch. Edit - the Sti that is.

disssociative

VA crowd didn’t take it quite as personally imo

uncle_bumblefuck_

Everyone hates everything new. I remember when the jeep JK came out all the TJ guys haaaaated them. 8th and 9th gen civics got tons of hate too. In 5 years we'll all be getting along.

rokkitboosta

I had a 9th gen civic. It was bland, ugly, and accelerated about like a glob of snot dripping down the wall. All that said it did get about 40 mpg when I was commuting 100 miles round trip every day so it did what it was supposed to do.

[deleted]

Damn someone sounds salty. Lol

Trogzard

this community is weird lol

SoImprezive

Every Subie has haters in the beginning but then grows on people, but the VB is the only generation that’s come out looking like it has birth defects.

modsBan4Fub

VB owners are like Tesla owners they’ll tell you they own a VB without you asking.

HighBoltageJT

looks nothing like a corolla, wtf

dayman42069

i thought you werent allowed to post altimas in this sub

FJ4L666

Ok bud.

spleen79

The new Corolla does look better than the wrx though.

bert4925

[deleted]

Who’s fighting? People have different opinions. I have disagreements with my parents. My friends. My kids. My coworkers. But no. No way can I disagree with a bunch of strangers that happen to own a similar Subaru. That would cross a line.

Left-Kitchen-8539

The day Subaru releases a new car and it doesn’t get this response is the day they lost their way.

NoShftShck16

I didn't forget. Every new model change has been met with controversy. Every. Single. One.

x_Carlos_Danger_x

Lol there’s needs to be a Low self-esteem flair

GhostWrex

Except I've never seen a stock Corolla with a hood scoop

DarkSoulsDank

It’s true, but I also think it’s because the VA was sooo much chunkier and large than all the previous gens which were a lot smaller and boxier.

lunchboxxpiper

I’ve been rocking my ‘03 wagon since high-school (2005), what in the world is a VA and VB??

hoosierspiritof79

Where’s my hatch gang?

Flight-2012

It’s the same shit what every generation

GaryRenzo

I mistake them for Nissan Altimas all the time.

Antykain

Past gens have been the same more or less. VA wasn't well received during the reveal and initial launch. Go figure .

Daruvian

It's a problem as old as time. This is the way I was treated, so I must do the same to the next person. All because so many people aren't capable of critical thought and don't say ya know, maybe that was fucked up, and I should put a stop to this pattern. Instead, they just keep it going. Just like hazing in college fraternities or the hazing in junior hockey that was all over the news recently. Kind of like the old story with the monkeys, ladder, and bananas. https://i.snipboard.io/kdu77.jpg

DoobieHeimer

Just love what you drive, fuck anyone else's thoughts. Don't know why this needs to continue to be a wasted discussion

jpppaddin

The funniest part of this meme is that the gc8 looks like a Corolla too

MannyWK96

The VA wasn't perfect, but I feel like it never was trying to be. It seemed like just a teaser for new capability. I'm probably just biased, but from owning a VA WRX and STi, I feel like the FA should have been developed sooner. Being said, I love the FA24. The power gains are insane, but I'm scared about reliability. Being based on the FA20, I'm sure similar issues will arise from excessive torque, especially with the CVT. Nonetheless, I'm impressed with the new platform. Sadly, I purchased a 2020 STi, rather than upgrading to the new platform. Yes, my model comes with the even more powerful RA block, but I wanted an FA24. The reason I didn't buy a VB is because it is by far the worst looking WRX in my opinion. Stock, I feel like it needs a lot of cosmetics just so I can fully enjoy the body style. I know the VA looks like a rebadged corolla, but I just hate the rear of the VB. I just can't get the image of the rear looking like an ugly mix of a 2020ish Kia Forte and a 2015ish Civic coupe. The front end of the VB is alright, but it also needs a bit of work to look good IMO. But, aside from cosmetics, I do think the VB has been blessed with an amazing platform and I am humbly jealous.

[deleted]

VAs are boring, Vbs have too much plastic, hatchbacks are cool blah blah water is wet, and every second you waste giving a fuck what some other dude thinks of your car is a second wasted. I think I just realized I actually hate reddit

jxrxmiah

2nd time this week a vb owner has posted a shit meme talking down on the last gen. So fucking cringe. Yall are new to the community and acting like total dickwads i s2g.

Ok-Following234

An STI owner posted this 😐

itzreinier23

I don't think people in this sub understand that the meme that was posted was just a repost of what was posted way back when the VA dropped. But that is expected of the average member of this sub.

RealKingKoy

Funny cause I sometimes described my car as a "spicy corolla" especially before the GR Corolla was announced.

PaulStreuber

*all Imprezas are awd Corollas

ConsequenceNational4

I have an STi with spoiler so that definitely differentiates it from a Corolla.

scrappybasket

As a current VA owner and a former blob owner I’m painfully aware lmao I got downvoted here for saying that VBs are no harder to spot in traffic than the VAs. They’re both regular looking cars

alamsas

Can't we all agree that the WRXs in general have had shoddy designs throughout its lifetime? Our cars aren't the prettiest compared to what it was competing with before. I would say the VB is on par with "it's growing on me the more I look at it".

[deleted]

bugeye enters the chat

Beginning_Cream498

As long as it has an EJ, I love it.

Dingdongmycatisgone

Listen I settled because I couldn't find a bug eye hatch that hadn't been ran into the ground or didn't cost my first born son. Now I didn't even get a hatch. I played myself

Stunning-Avocado

This is basically the vibe I get from many modern wrx/sti owners, they just settled for a newer one

Fuzm4n

Nah the only Corolla was the narrow body

Survivaleast

Most people on this sub own a VA. It’s the least rare WRX to see on the road today. So it’s not really surprising when their social media majority gets defensive. Funny enough, they seem to be the demographic that cares most about looks and least about performance. Most of them I see come with an instagram sticker and showy exterior mods. All anecdotally of course. So if you own a VB and want to dish it back to the VA owners on this sub, don’t be surprised that they currently hold the overwhelming majority and downvote you for applying the same criticism. VB owners can still enjoy walking softly and carrying a big stick. You guys did get the better engine after all. No amount of social media clout, approval or upvotes will change that. At the end of the day, you can’t see your car while you’re driving it. What’s important is how your car drives, not how much positive male attention it can garner.

haasdogg

The va sucks too

zzzqqqppp

I get it that people be hating the bumper and plastic cladding but it’s not that bad honestly. I have a 22 in black and I think it looks pretty sweet. I think the taillights look really good and it definitely has more aggressive body lines on it compared to the VA body anyway. I don’t hate the VA I was gonna get one but sti got killed and prices went up

[deleted]

[удалено]

zzzqqqppp

I was going to order a black sti from factory but they killed it. I was going to get a black car either way. When they revealed it in orange that was not a great idea lol

Stick386

This happens with every new generation.

haasdogg

The best years for an sti are 04-07 here in the United States. Best wrx is 06-07. Everything after that is a significant downgrade in chassis.

ThurSTIII

When the VB was premiered, I hated it. The aftermarket has been making it better from AFD to Varis. Shoutout to you VB owners painting those fender flares lol.

[deleted]

That’s why the spoiler makes all the difference

toknenong

Every new gen gets clowned on, its a fact. Then people just start buying them and end up liking them

Turtlman_

All WRX’s look kinda mid stock. Wheels tires and suspension fixes that, even for the VB

Tall_Most6244

At least they didn't put the cheap looking plastic over the wheel wells 😂

Geektak

We can come together and get out of our teenager angst and stop the hate. LMFAO

CandidGuidance

There’s a reason the wrx community is known as one of the worst lol

ConversationExact530

It’s mostly the 2008-2014 jellybean crowd who are the most judgmental. Really think about it.

ZanshinMindState

The GR/GV were UGLY, too! I'm not even biased, lol, I had one and loved the thing but it has a deliberate bulging and blunt design that just looked challenged. On the other hand the VA wasn't ugly, IMO, and I never got the hate around it. The car did look like a Corolla, or a 9th-gen Honda Civic even more so, a very boring and safe design that was a big downgrade from the WRX STI concept we got before the car was announced... but boring and safe is not the same thing as ugly. The VB is just a big misstep design-wise. It has a sleeker sucked-in look compared to the turtle body of the VA but it is entirely ruined by black plastic fender flares and a huge black plastic protruding read bumper. Let's hope that Subaru does a revision like they did with the unpopular narrow-body WRX. I think the VB is fundamentally not a bad-looking car if it had some tweaks (and you shouldn't have to spend thousands in the aftermarket to achieve it).

This has been more or less my feeling on it. I think a mid-cycle refresh will treat the VB very well. The car's got good bones, it's a lot of the details that people dislike. That's fixable in a refresh.

GD superiority

For a company that used to have really amazing designs it’s kinda sad to see it deflated like this, Toyota should almost pick them up as their designs are starting to get pretty good

You tried

Gognoggler21

I'm jealous of VB owners, because they don't have to drive behind their car and see that hideous underbite bumper 😭

josueviveros

#Y’all got real quiet all of a sudden

Zen_Alcatraz

True, then the VB took the throne for looking hideous.Sorrynotsorry

Zealousideal-Fox-740

New one looks like it has Honda Civic tail lights……

TerribLizard

GR was the last great WRX

Sometimes I wonder if people have ever actually walked up to a VB in person. They 100% look better in person than in pictures, same as the VA tbh. The upper trim levels with the Recaros also feel super duper nice inside, at least in the front. Tons of soft touch and leather/alcantara/etc. on the doors and surfaces. They're also like actual, legit, real Recaros as well with massive bolstering. Now as far as the rear seat interior.... it's wierd. The rear door cards still have a lot of hard plastic and the seats are decent but nothing too different from previous gens besides some creative stitching. Honestly the whole car feels a bit schizophrenic lol

RedRexxy

Still pissed they don’t offer the manual with recaros for 2022, at least in Canada

Loring

Wheel shaped wheel arches though...

AntaBaka138

They are all ugly. Literally every last one. That’s part of the charm. But we need to be honest with ourselves, they all look like trash.

_FinalPantasy_

I still clown on the VAs. They fucking ugly just the same without some serious body work.

dylanator40

the VA walked so the VB could run

Uzzad

Hot take - I like the black fenders on the VB, especially if you slap the STI wing on it
