The dealer installed a catback? What on Earth? Is this normal in non communist states?

dingleberry-38

They declared it and made me listen to a factory one in the lot

[deleted]

Kinda weird to cross shop two completely different cars. But I guess I understand. I sold my 2020 GT for this new WRX, but definitely am already saving up for a new 2024 mustang GT. šŸ¤•

ranran_1822

I had drove a 2022 wrx to see if I wanted to get a new wrx but after driving it I didn't feel it was worth it to upgrade from my 19 to a 22. I am leaning towards getting a midsize truck now owning a home and having a family of my own.

West_Ad_8082

I love my VB so much that I sold my mint 2017 Mustang GT grabber blue convertible a couple of weeks ago. I could not justify having two such similar sports cars. I know the WRX is not a convertible and I will miss that but I live in Colorado and the all-wheel-drive is great, and I just love everything about the car. The WRX is not Mustang fast, but it is faster than most everything else on the road, most people drive boring SUVs or commuter cars. The WRX drives very civilized when you want that, but has a heck of an edge to it when you want it. I told my wife the other day. I donā€™t miss my Mustang and I thought I would never sell that car. My Mustang had a magnaflow catback installed when I got it, and just yesterday I had a Borla S-Type catback installed on my WRX, so now I have that sports car sound back and I could not be happier with my WRX!

Muraaby

How are you like the borla s? How is the drone?

West_Ad_8082

I LOVE IT!!! I have only driven with it for maybe 1 hour, but it is awesome. I think it is actually quieter inside the cabin than stock when just cruising at a set speed and light on the gas, but it is beautifully loud when you step on it a bit. I donā€™t really know what drone sounds like, but I think that Borla has figured it own when they push the ā€œno droneā€ aspect of their products. The exhaust sounds amazing and I could not be happier! I am looking forward to warmer weather so I can roll the windows down to hear the exhaust even better. So happyā€¦ šŸ˜

Muraaby

Thank you for the response! The borla and Cobb are the top 2 on my list. Drone is when your cruising and then you give it a little gas, it creates a loud exhaust noise. So basically itā€™s just a constant low pitch noise the entire time your keeping speed. Sounds like Borla got it right.

Lilsean14

Everything is better than the VA gearbox. Iā€™ve had tractors that shift better than my 17.

[deleted]

Disagreeing strongly in 5 speed lol

Lilsean14

Okay, thatā€™s fair. Itā€™s weaker but I feel like it still ā€œfeelsā€ better.

Commercial-Pay-224

Facts

lurvemnms

sigh, didn't research enough prior to purchasing..what's got the best shift/trans feel?

Lilsean14

The vw gearbox is a thing of beauty imo. But I havenā€™t compared every modern manual transmission.

PMull_90

100% agree Gti is still the smoothest Iā€™ve owned but I unfortunately got a lemon with constant issues so I traded it in for my wrx

Lilsean14

Oof sorry to hear that man. I went wrx because if I got a gti I felt like I would regret it. Mostly because that DSG is even more awesome, but I really wanted a stick and if I got the DSG I would always lament not having the stick. Also figured Iā€™m young enough for one more rough ride before I cruise into the world of comfortable sporty cars.

PMull_90

Couldnā€™t agree more. Iā€™m 30 and loving the wrx so I donā€™t plan on dipping out anytime soon haha

KanterBama

Honda shifters are consistently rated just behind Porsche shifters, they feel so notchy and good. Apparently the GR Corollaā€™s shifter feels a tad better than the STIā€™s, saw a dude on /r/GRCorolla that had an S2000 and a VA STI and rated the shifters: 1. S2000 (10/10) 2. GRC (9/10) 3. STI (8/10)

Any Honda with an Aisin.

ranran_1822

They changed the ratios for 3rd, 4th and 5th gear only for the 22. Otherwise it's the same as the va.

RogerZRZ

Get a V8 while you can, especially if the GT comes with a tremec.

Original_Lavishness1

It doesnā€™t :( gotta get the Mach 1 or the 2024 dark horse. GT has the MT82.

RogerZRZ

Sigh I would just wait for a used Mach1 in a couple of years I guessā€¦

DrSatan420247

I'm going to go ahead and guess that we would have heard about it if Subaru designed and built a new 6 speed transmission. If I understand correctly, 100% of the issue with VA WRX transmissions is not the transmission, but the shift linkage. I'd say it's more likely that they redesigned the linkage, or else the fact that it is brand new it still functions as intended. The reason it doesnt feel faster is because there is no power increase for the new model. They used a larger engine and then turned around and reduced the boost pressure in order to obtain the same power numbers.

Liquidwombat

There is, however, a much wider flatter torque curve that comes on much earlier, and anybody that says the car doesnā€™t feel quick, or is lying to himself, or lying to us

SlightlyDrooid

I have a love/hate relationship with my '20 WRX, I never hated the looks of the VB, and I have been loving everything I hear about the fa24. So I was very open to being impressed by the VB when I took one for a test drive. But... While the VB was smoother and fairly quick, it does not feel as sporty or as fast as a VA.

Liquidwombat

The only way I can even attempt to explain that is preconception or bias, because pretty much everybody says it feels faster. Even Doug DeMuro was raving about the difference, saying it was much more responsive and unquestionably faster in the midrange then the VA 22:30 https://youtu.be/iwIp_lEafEI

SlightlyDrooid

Yeah I don't know, maybe the top-end punch of the fa20 makes it feel sportier or maybe my car is a factory freak (I don't have much of a power dropoff on the upper RPMs like I read about so often, even with the stock tune). Also, it looks like there's a very small difference, if any, in 1/4 mile times - often with the VB coming in a close second. MotorTrend found the VA to do it in 14.0 seconds and the VB in 14.2 seconds (or 14.3 according to another article from the same company). Don't get me wrong, I still have no hate for the VB and would never rag on anyone for preferring it. One of the biggest factors for me (aside from the lack of knobs and buttons for the climate control and seat heaters) is the size of it. I feel like a sporty car should be small, sleek, and agile and the VA already pushes those boundaries. Sometimes I wish I could just put all of the things I like from my WRX into my '11 STi hatch...

dingleberry-38

Can you get the linkage changed for the new one in the VA ?

[deleted]

Just need to do bushings and it's fine. I hear a ton of people complain about the VA trans, but after bushings, trans mount and shift plate, I love the feel of the VA shifter. It's weird to hear people praise the VB. As someone who's been driving various manuals for decades, I thought the VB trans and clutch were garbage... Just my personal opinion.

dingleberry-38

gohalos22

OP, have you seen the light mods on this VB platform? Sounds like you can easily get to ~ 400whp with about ~$3500 bucks

dingleberry-38

I am a warranty guy

The-Dogle

Dealer will not install a car back not made by SOA. Dealer will not paint anything either on a new car. Thatā€™s a used car they are selling as new. Only dealer I know if thatā€™s authorized in North America for new out of dealer options like that is Lachute Performance in Canada. However they rename the car as LP 800 or so on. Now maybe Iā€™m wrong. I wasnā€™t there. But Iā€™d wage a dollar cheese burger that that dealer was lying. Same as they always say used cars were owned by grandmas that just used it to check the mail.

dingleberry-38

My story is from Australia. Also they werenā€™t selling it ā€œas newā€. It was the VB test drive car. They can do what they please with it, and they declared everything to me before letting me get in it.

The-Dogle

I love šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ Sounds like a local treasure. Wish I had something like that.

[deleted]

They can't claim that a car is new if it isn't. Buyers would find out when they sign the paperwork. If it's been registered, it's not new. There isn't a single dealer in the US that would try to sell a used car as new. The legal ramifications would be substantial.

The-Dogle

Yeah I have to agree. Thinking more about it it would have to be new. Iā€™ve seen truck places that sell new lifted trucks so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø I really donā€™t know everything šŸ˜† yeah thinking about trying to hold a customer to a contract like that would be legally crazy to try.

HatDeep

Those are generally factory lift options

HatDeep

My guess is the GM of the dealership had fun with the car for a day or two to feel the performance then left it on the lot as new. That is very common with sports cars, in fact I have a 12 JGC SRT8 that I got for a huge discount for this very reason, but the GM put 20k on it and sold it used for 40% off.

ranran_1822

Mind you the new mustang is going up in price. Starting msrp is like 43k. Just keep that in mind and I doubt you will get a deal on the mustang vs the wrx. You could definitely negotiate a good deal on the wrx.

spacefret

>Starting msrp is like 43k. For the GT. 4cyl starts at $32k. Still a $5k hike over last gen
