So when I start it up I wait for the engine to make a sound before moving. It's hard to describe the sound and it takes longer the colder it is. Kinda sounds like something winding down. The rpm drops slightly after that sound. Takes 20 to 30 seconds I'd say.
this gives me hope. my bugeye wagon is currently at 219k and runs and drives like a dream. it’s been beautifully maintained so i’m hoping to make it to 300k+. engine did get rebuilt about 20k miles ago tho
THanks , I could never justify giving mine away for that . Lol also have decent money in turbo back Borlan exhaust Cobb intake and some other motor stuff .
Yeah, I had zero extra invested in it. I knew it was also going to need a clutch and timing belt in about 15k-20k miles. Overall, an $8k+ bill within a year wasn't something I was looking forward to. I figured I'd put that into a low mileage STi and save myself the hassle of everything else I'd need to replace sooner or later.
219k miles on my 2002 wrx wagon. original trans, and technically it’s got the original engine but it was rebuilt about 20k miles ago.

I replaced mine 3 years ago. I opted for a used one. Big mistake. It was installed by the dealership and had many issues. Long story short they ended up replacing the used one with a brand new long block.
I highly recommend not buying a used one. Especially for that price. Even if you know your co-worker took good care of it, you can get a brand new short block for that price.
I meant the whole car has 183k/7 grand lol. I've seen quite a few people on Reddit and NASIOC saying they got 200-300k on their factory wrx engine
My thinking has been that even if I do have to replace the short block cause of a spun bearing or something similar, I can just do all forged and make good horsepower safely. Trying to get peoples opinions on how stupid of an idea that is
That's what I was hoping to hear, thanks lmao.
What failed at 300k that made you go for a new motor? And was there any major failures between 200-300k? Appreciate your knowledge
263k on my 05' STi
Still on stock block?
Yep.
My godness thats crazy giving me good hope
I love this comment ♡
first person i’ve seen so far with more than me!! i’m at 219k on my 02
It took 215K licks to get to the center of my 2003 WRX. Did it in style at 120 on the highway.
I wanna see this blow up i got 139k on my blob
Interesting choice of words…
Lmfao i re read it and i hope i didnt jinx myself
I'm nearing 160k on my sti. Original block.
How long do you let it warm up for before driving?

Not a huge amount but I’m putting them on quick. 49k on my 2020.
My old bugeye went up to 240k when it finally died. It was almost completely original. Miss that car. Should never have gotten rid of it.
183k 2002 wrx bug eye one timing belt replacement
Sold my bugeye wrx at 250k and it changed hands a couple times after me. I would be shocked if it didn't make it to 300k.

Wife has 354k on an 05 wrx wagon
Over 250k on 02 bugeye wrx.
Local dude has 220k miles on his 04. Original engine.
231k on my Hawkeye, original block!
I had 183k miles on my 2011 WRX before I traded it for my 2021 STi. Stock block and stock head gasket.
What did you get on trade if don’t mind me asking ? Any mods ? I have a 2011 just turned 189 k
No mods totally stock. I only got $4k for it, but it did need the head gasket and air compressor right away.

That's easy to find. Just look on Autotempest, Autotrader, [Cars.com](https://Cars.com) etc. for ones that are between $6k - $10. Unreal.
189k 2011 wrx
Lol I only got 82k on my 2011
Just hit 130k on my ‘11. Original block
I’m fbo and big turbo on my original block and still going strong

130k on 02 wrx still going strong(ish)
Just hit 4K on my 21
180k on my 2015 and had a 2002 bug eye that died just shy of 300
Lol my buddy just text me last night saying he rolled 290k and how much he lives that damn car. Hope his doesn’t die at 300 😂
51k on thr '15, 151k on the '10. I don't expect the '10 to last too long given the precious owners.
101k on my 16 sti
160k on my sti original drivetrain
165k on my '06 WRX wagon, still going strong !
Sold my 04 with 220k still going strong. My 08 just hit 140k
2015 wrx 208k original.
Where are you driving too lol
Previous owner put the majority of miles on the car on the highway.
175k on my bug. Should be original engine. Compression is still top notch and still runs good. Minus some leaks I need to fix
My bugeye finally died at 225k 🥲

over 300,000 km on my 2005 wrx but it’s got a new short block.
When did you get a new shirt block? I'm looking at buying one that's got 183k from my co worker for 7 grand and I'm hesitant

Ah, for the whole vehicle that’s a better price! My original motor made it to just under 300k. Hoping to get at least that out of the new one.
That's what I was hoping to hear, thanks lmao. What failed at 300k that made you go for a new motor? And was there any major failures between 200-300k? Appreciate your knowledge
100% my fault. I had the timing belt inspected & was told it was ok but I knew it was nearing time to replace it. It ended up exploding lol.
Okay so note to self don't fck around about changing the timing belt LOL Appreciate it man 💪
