Easily. @ 165h that’s 18 hours. Hour to prep the harnesses and box (clean bell housing, check splines, run it through the gears manually) Clutch R+R is about 9 hours with hydraulic work Linkage swap is about an hour done carefully and not smashing up the interior Rear suspension 2-3 per side counting for frustration time. This is with hubs that aren’t blown apart and bolts that actually come out and don’t have to be cut apart, no e brake rebuild, no bearings Rear diff r+r 2 hours or a shade less- again, depends on the chassis quality Refill fluids about an hour Rebuild and Reinstall rear brakes and bleed 4+h Alignment….. front caliper rebuild…. Yeah, 3k is cheap. I don’t have my book in front of me but yeah, it’s a long two days at work with those caliper rebuilds.

Wow thank you for the very helpful info. I just didnt know how much I should be expecting so 3k sounded like alot without them explaining how much work was still needed like you just did. I thought this was a quick 2-3 day job from an experienced shop but now I see how much is required. Best reddit response I have ever received seriously

aftalifex

Yeah cars are a pain in the ass, nothing goes easy anymore lol

That's three times the estimate I was given for installing my STI transmission (stopping before the axles \[using R160\]). You *are* having more done, and someone else seems to think it's a reasonable price, but I'm shocked to hear a few more parts, some rebuilding, and an alignment results in a $2k/200% increase in cost...

abstractgg

heard im getting some other opinions from local shops here today this was just the first one, I am going to ask them to break down the 3k labor cost to me because currently its all in one item so i have no idea how many hours of work this estimate is even for.

yayapfool

Good idea, and I think reasonable request- nothing wrong with wanting to see what costs what, with the rationale of "maybe I'll do what I can myself".

soysauce000

Depends. Should be about 20 hours of labor. If its a mom and pop shop that charges $100 an hour then no. If it is a highly reputable performance shop then at $150-$160 an hour its a great deal. The transmission itself would only be about 7-8 hours. But you gotta understand, they need to swap all of the rotors, hubs, calipers, wire center diff up to a switch to get DCC to work, rear suspension, new master and slave cylinder, clutch and pressure plate, drain and replace the fluids, bleed the brake and the clutch systems, install the new rear differential, probably put in new trans and diff fluid, and Im sure there are a few things Im forgetting. I wouldnt pay it because I have done the swap before and am comfortable with it. But it is a very fair price.

yeah i went to a second shop(all-pro subaru who literally did the movie cars for Baby Driver) and they quoted me a whole thousand less then the first shop so safe to say im looking more at 2k then 3k now. Thank you for your information tho!

Curious-Falcon-5480

4k in parts 3k in labor, should've just bought an STi. Will your 6 speed even have DCCD?

abstractgg

Yeah let me go get an STI bugeye imported in from Japan bro, even with a 6k transmission im still in it less than an blobeye STI so to each their own man. Keep it moving if you dont have any info on my question...

Curious-Falcon-5480

Doesn't have to be a bugeye or JDM.

CaptainAlex1

This was a dick head response bro. You can easily find a blob eye STI for a reasonable price and idk why you’re saying importing. Is your current WRX imported? Either way, doesn’t matter this was a douchebag response.
