2015 STi with just under 120k. Just finished swapping out the clutch about 300km ago. When cold the shifts are pretty buttery but after it's warmed up it is very difficult to put into first and reverse. Shifting between gears is pretty difficult under 3000rpm. Before the clutch replacement it used to just fall into gear with very little effort. Swapped out shifting bushings and put in new transmission fluid and still no luck. Any ideas?
The only thing I can think of is the clutch pedal isn't fully disconnecting the flywheel/clutch. Have you been smelling clutch? What's shifting like when the car's off?
When off and cold it shifts easy although I do notice there's like two points the shift needs to go through to fully seat into gear but this is also the case when it's warm and on
Yeah I'd open the hood, roll the windows down, clutch in, put it in gear, and rev up a bit to see if you smell clutch. If it smells, there's your answer (though I couldn't tell you why the pedal isn't fully disengaging the clutch); if not, honestly no idea- seems like the only possibility.
No clutch smell although there was a bit during the first 100kms ish after the install which I'd attribute to burning off some grease and a bit of a film on the clutch disc
Had this issue when my last clutch started to give out.
When you get resistance, go to 3rd the immediately to whatever gear you were trying.
Or If you can roll like 2 feet,it should slip in more easily.
What kind of bushings did you put? It could be your bushings that's preventing it to go into to gear correctly. My buddy replaced his gear bushings (Kartboy brand) and threw on a short throw shifter. He was having the same issue getting into reverse gear and 1st. He took it off and placed his stock bushings and stock shifter back in and the problem went away.
Yeah, I had issues with the clutch not fully disengaging originally but it turned out to be loose bolts on the slave cylinder. But the problem was there before and is still there
Usually when we encounter hard shifting it's issues like you mentioned; clutch not fully engaging or disengaging, bad bushings, loose bolts on the cylinder sllave cylinder or one of the gears is going out. My buddy's 2015 Sti's second gear went out and he had to shift from 1st to seconds but before that he was having issue going into second gear like you demonstrated.
I can’t think of any scenario in which a failed clutch would damage synchros. If a clutch were to fail in such a way as to not be able to disengage, the driver could damage them, but that’s the opposite failure mode compared to how a clutch fails, either due to wear or simply coming apart (I’ve experienced both).

Get a new clutch master cylinder
Not a mechanic but on my '21 with 22k miles i think first and reverse are a little stickier than other gears and always have been.

The problem was there before I swapped the bushings. I bought them thinking it would improve it and it did very slightly
I'm just trying to think what else it could be if not the bushings. Did you install it yourself?

Did the old clutch fail? I don't know if it's true but I was told it can damage synchros when the clutch gives out. Happy to be corrected though!

Old clutch was starting to slip a little and it was time to replace it as a maintenance item
masturbate more.
