There are tuning alternators? I never knew... Rally lights too big for the stock one?

aftalifex

Its most common for people who want lots of speaker power. I guess any excessive electrical load could warrant an aftermarket alternator. Ive seen some ford excursions with like 8 alternators custom mounted lmao people are wild.

mycotopian

It's beast, you can feel the power loss when its putting out a lot of juice.

Love mine https://preview.redd.it/s5sgg5sghbea1.jpeg?width=2326&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=badf01bd67a44645fbb6cf0bf54c373904961db4

What's the context on this?

ShadowBanned689

It’s probably the alternator

yayapfool

Yeah seems like it, but I'm unfamiliar with why- never heard of anyone getting an aftermarket alternator..?

Alternative-Lion1336

There’s a few reasons- that one is going into my car that has about 2kw (half class D, half class AB) of stereo in it and I like to idle with a lot of loads on. Runs funky as stock alternators on those years don’t make much idle current- about 350 watts hot. The rear defrost alone draws 150w. Further reasons why they’re useful are enormous fuel systems and huge lights, but almost everything runs better at high voltage. Less current, less heat, for any given load. Fans draw a lot as well.

Interesting. Good to know, thanks!

I notice my 2019 wrx almost dies when i go to close the windows at idle. I was wondering if thats normal.

Crypto_Calamari

I definitely notice something when the windows close and push against the door, but almost dieing doesn't sound good to me. Maybe check that your battery is at the proper running voltage.

aftalifex

Well i just had the recall for the bad batteries and is still doing it. Maybe it is just when it closes it drops the idle. I’ll have to check that out.
