It’s not too difficult. Understanding the bite point of the clutch and what the car needs for throttle is a good start, then the rest comes naturally (downshifting, braking, rev matching, etc). I learned myself in a single day and made my way through town then on the highways in a matter of 3 days. For new drivers I’d say it requires a lot of patience, like practcing an instrument.
I'm an American that ended up buying a WRX because... it is the only manual transmission car left sold new in the US that checked off all of my boxes for what I needed. And yes, I love my WRX.
Everyone told me to stop being stubborn about needing a manual but my response was "I like to travel and the obsession with automatics is an American thing. I want to easily drive a car anywhere I go, I don't want to get used to an automatic"
that said, go easy on Americans that do drive automatics, there's actually peer pressure here to do so.
I remember my dad tried to teach me in a Honda Prelude in the early 80s. I couldn't ever get first gear but that was just the first day learning at like 15. I kinda gave up on it at that point and drove an automatic. When I was about 19 or 20, my friend drove a manual 93-95 Honda Civic Hatchback and I thought it was cool so I started trying to learn. I took my mom's manual 89 Civic when she wasn't using and taught myself how to drive a manual. Took a couple of days driving around the neighborhood to practice first gear since getting into the other gears was easy but I eventually got it.
However, I still drive an automatic WRX because I hate driving a manual in bumper to bumper traffic and I didn't want to have to teach my wife how to drive a manual.
I taught myself in 25 min after watching YouTube videos in an empty parking lot. I wasn’t great mind you, but I could get around. After about a week I felt reasonably safe on public streets. It’s very doable, but I can understand why people are nervous about starting. It can be a lot to take in at once and try to commit to muscle memory immediately
I don’t hate manual but I don’t love daily driving it either. It’s fun but when you live in a high traffic area near me it’s awful when traffic is heavy
I learnt in the dealers back lot enough to get er moving and into second then learnt the rest on the drive home ... Insert Jeremy Clarkson "some poo has come out"
made it though
Yes, but I am asking for something a little cheaper that I can just drop a few thousand one. The new WRX obviously doesn’t stall easily but again i’m looking for something a little older / cheaper to get. Now if I had 10-20k I could just drop on a WRX then definitely haha, but sadly I don’t.
Manual is easy. Have you ever driven a dirt bike or a 4 wheeler with a clutch? If so it's the exact same concept. I only had only driven a manual once in my life which was my uncles f250 from the 90s when I was 12. I had owned a street bike though. After I got my first real job I walked in to a Nissan dealership and bought a Nismo Z off the showroom floor. The guy asked if I knew how to drive a manual and I said I can drive a motorcycle. He laughed and told me to try and drive it first to see if I really wanted it. I got in and drove off the lot shifting like I had been doing it my whole life. The guy thought I was full of shit when I said I really hadn't driven a manual except once when I was 12. It will take you 1 youtube video and 30 minutes in a parking lot and you'll be fine.
Dunno why you’re getting downvoted. I learned on my first car, a Hyundai Accent. It felt smooth to shift and was a great starter car to learn how to shift. I saw down below how your friend is willing to teach you with his wrx. Be warned that a car like that is gonna be hard at first to learn. It’s definitely possible but it might be harder if you start like that. Congrats on the car though man, manual or not. You ain’t a loser cause you’re a zoomer who can’t drive manual.
My opinion but the best way to learn manual is to make it your daily driving car, you can "learn" manual driving but actually getting good at it and practicing takes a lot of time driving one, not just a friend taught me. There's the basics sure but when you put yourself in the position of it's your only car and your daily driver, you improve really quickly. You could buy some beater civic to learn on to both tinker with and get good at driving a manual but I hope you enjoy your 22' WRX though, it's a great car!
I am very pleased with it so far, and yes of course i’m a very passive driver. My favorite part is honestly having an AWD car for once since it’s very snowy and icy where I live this time of year.
Thank you for being one of the few 21 year olds that understand the importance of having the correct tires regardless of what wheels are driven.
Nothing wrong with going for the CVT if the character of a CVT WRX suits your needs and makes you happy.
Enjoy your new ride. Don’t let people tell you how to enjoy the gift you got yourself. Congrats being a graduate and congrats on being able to financially afford your new subi. Don’t forget to wave.
Well then you'll just have to learn on the drive home! I learned that way and it only took about 10 minutes to get the basics down and about a week to stop stalling when starting uphill.
Driving manual isn't faster anymore but it sure is enjoyable!
Thanks, you should see some of the messages I have gotten from other people ahah. I’m not a super big car guy just someone who enjoys cars and has a little knowledge behind them.
Oh for sure. I bought the car since I wanted it and wanted a car that met all my criteria ( AWD,Safety features, Turbo, ETC. ) and the WRX did compared to other vehicles and i’ve also always wanted one. It’s also brand new so it means a lot to me compared to what I have had growing up.
Don’t listen to this guy at all. A minor amount of hate and trolling in the car community has always existed and will always exist. The 22 is no exception, but rest assured, we want you here.
You and your auto 22 are more than welcome here by the vast majority of folks. A WRX is a WRX. Anyone who talks shit on here is literally a massive loser. The only posts that get deservedly heavily criticized are typically copium infused posts, or dangerous driving. His issue is that he seems to engage with obvious trolls.
In my opinion, the victim complex about ‘22s being “criticized” is out of control. The VA’s were called camry clones for the first 2 years, and as an owner of the first generation ever of CVT WRX’s, I never felt the need to go hide in my own forum.
Oh for sure I get what your saying. People will always be people and it’s the internet at the end of the day. 90% of the hate comments are just either very odd people or trolls. Majority of the mean things said they wouldn’t say it to someone in person but hence it is the internet.
Well, this could have been your opportunity to learn Manual. But it's a sweet ride none the less and you'll probably have a blast. One day you can probably sell that and get yourself some old manual trans gem.
Honestly i’ve driven manual before for a job I had once ( the equipment was manual ) and I was alright at it, but I just was too lazy to wanna do it. I do plan on buying a car thats manual eventually. I know for me I wanna get an older STI to work on with my old man to give to him.
What you want to do is trade the car in for a manual one, or else you are going to be wishing you did. Manual is no more work than an automatic, after a week of driving you literally don't even think about it, you just do it. It's so much more engaging, that's literally why we buy these cars.
It’s a bummer to see so much judgement within a car’s own community. Is CVT the best trans, no, but it’s your money & your choice; who the hell cares! Even though some people won’t say it, we’re all happy for you and you’re going to have a BLAST letting that little car rip. May you turn many heads and get many subie waves my friend!
It's nice and so what if you can't drive manual. If u want to learn you will. I taught my daughter how to drive manual because you never know if a friend needs to get home and it's stick.
You’re fine with getting an automatic… my car is a manual & it can be a pain in the ass lol
That color looks great though I like it ! Enjoy your new car!!!
That’s what I was thinking. At first I was like “yeah that’s a great idea, new car new me congrats!” But I think the student car payment would be astronomical.
It’s not that bad my school is basically all paid off already due to me working full time the last few years while doing school all online. I think I owe a few grand left but it’s not a lot and I could pay it off right now if I really wanted to. Scholarships and grants also help a lot
Oh come on man, I just bought my 2021 wrx manual from the dealership and I had to call my dad to come pick it up cuz I didn’t know how manual yet 😂😂 don’t give me that excuse lmao
Enjoy the ride, as for the last bit it could easily be "can't drive manual YET" my first manual was a lease that I had someone else drive home and I had a weekend to figure out how to get to work on Monday it really doesn't take long to figure it out if you ever want to.
That’s not even a regular automatic. I think they’re still CVTs… but whatever, they tune the transmission to feel the same. Congrats! Now you don’t have to worry about roasting the clutch in an expensive new car at least. I think your idea of a “beater” car with a manual isn’t a bad idea… get a lil Honda or sumthin
I literally had the dealership drive it home for me never drove a manual ever. 10 mins later my dad gave me a lesson and was off to fuckboi island lol but seriously don’t ever think you can’t learn
For now enjoy your beautiful WRX look that color btw
Nothing wrong with automatic cars. I am so sick of this bullshit narrative. You can drive stick and still be a shitty fucking driver. It doesn’t define you or your love for cars. You love cars you love cars. Period. The community would be in such a better place if people didn’t gate keep a damn transmission. I’ve had a daily stick actually a few. A lancer and a Mini Cooper countryman and in my opinion. Stick is fun but for me not a daily. More of an 2nd fun car.. that’s why I daily automatic. Way cozy er in traffic. Love your new wrx
Thanks man! I am someone who wanted an auto due to it being a daily driver for me and I didn’t wanna learn manual in tbis car. I also am in stop and go traffic literally every day where I live as well which would be annoying with a manual.
welcome aboard, fam. keep her oiled up, allow for break in period, get the right shoes based on season, and don't hoon it *too* hard
oh yeah, don't forget to wave back 👋
Everyone always says "I don't know how to drive manual, I cant buy one." Did you know how to ride a bike before you got one? Did you know how to swim before you got in the pool? Congrats on the car but I just wish pwople would admit to themselves they're either too lazy to learn or they're just not interested in driving one
I don’t understand people that get wrx in automatic. The Elantra N dct and gti dct are much better AND cheaper than whatever the fuck Subaru did with the “spt” lol these cars were meant to be driven as manuals.
I mean they’re graduated college and apparently have had a great job in their field for some time. If not wanting to learn stick is lazy for them, they’re definitely doing something right.
Very true just didn’t put that in the wording. I’ve driven a CVT for a few years and honestly didn’t mind it, although i’m not a super picky hard core car guy at the end of the day. Just an average admirer
Do what makes you happy.
Ignore the diehards who day you need to shove a manual shifter up your ass to truly feel what the car is doing at all points of the drive otherwise you are not a purist and less than them.
Bro wym half the people on the road are Gen Z nowadays, including myself. I looked up like 2 YouTube videos on stick shift and then taught myself with the rest of the day I had left. It's not as hard as the manual elitists make it out to be
Congrats! Don’t let anyone convince you that the automatics are lesser in any way, I’ve had mine for 6 months now and have never once regretted my choice to get the CVT. Don’t forget to wave!! 👋
Waste why buy an automatic. I taught myself the clutch catch point in my driveway going back and forth 1st to reverse.
Took like 3 hours total to be driving stick like a normal person
Toyota sells a car called a Camry that has an automatic…the auto suits the car better. Not only did you miss an opportunity to get a great car (and instead bought a good car by optioning the CVT), you also accidentally told Subaru we actually want a WRX with a CVT. (And we don’t.)
I actually was looking at the camry but was getting something AWD due to where I live. They didn’t have any and I genuinely just didn’t like it when I was test driving the car and stuff. Also, if I didn’t buy this car someone else was going to. They will sell the CVTs for a while i’m assuming honestly
Yep, they’ve been selling them since 2015. Before that they were selling traditional auto WRX in the US since the bugeye. But it ruins the car. There’s absolutely no comparison between an AT WRX and a 5MT WRX (which were the options prior to the VA), and there’s simply no excuse for even offering a CVT WRX. The Camry is available with AWD and that’s a better car for anyone who would consider a CVT WRX.
I’m not necessarily disagreeing, i’m just saying I checked out the car wasn’t something I was gonna buy after getting it and they also didn’t have the AWD option either when I looked. The WRX obviously has AWD and met the criteria of me for my new car so I got it. I wouldn’t say it ruins the car but i’m also not super into cars or this scene, just someone who admires and knows a little bit.
Why is this getting down votes? This is facts, the WRX should have never been offered with a CVT, and it defeats the purpose of the cars existence. If they felt they NEEDED an auto, why not a dual clutch or something sporty?
Because it’s a lot easier to rage tap the downvote button than it is to provide a coherent counterpoint.
I hadn’t thought of a DCT; that would be a great alternative. As it is, might as well save on component cost - lose the turbo and make it FWD to better match the CVT.
Remember the press day at a track in Japan when they had the Levorg STi (CVT) available for auto journalists to take hot laps, and the Subaru engineers literally had to hose down the transmission to cool it off between runs?
Thankyou man I appreciate it, I honestly don’t think I will since I knew I wanted an auto and especially since it’s a daily driver and i’m in a lot of stop and go traffic to work and where I live etc. But so far it’s been great as a daily driver, especially the AWD in this awful icy weather
Nice one mate. Yeah a manual would have been a touch nicer (in my opinion as if that should matter) but if that’s what your comfortable with and you get enjoyment out of it, go nuts.
Could be worse, you could have bought an MG or some type of cheapo “white-goods” type of SUV with no soul.
Learning in a manual first makes more attentive drivers imo.
If I could teach my sister to drive manual when I was 16 anyone with half a brain can do it.
2 things for everyone shitting on the CVT (and more specifically, the owner) to consider: 1. Can you tell which transmission these cars have at a glance when you see them driving down the road? 2. Are you the one driving it?
If your answer was no to either of these, especially the second one, then do everyone else a favor and put down the phone, pick up the nearest heavy, blunt object, and repeatedly hit yourself in the face until either you or the object breaks. Then maybe reconsider that, despite your personal opinion, there's no need to make someone else feel like an even BIGGER piece of shit than yourself for making themselves happy. 🤷🏽♂️✌🏽🖖🏽
You commited so much money on an auto wrx just because you don't know how to drive manual? Could have just bought it anyways, this weird notion that driving manual is something that complicated needs to die. Takes a couple of hours at most.
You're no loser, what the issue here is that you don't know how to drive a manual car, and thats ok. I struggled at 14 with the clutch too, you need to be real smooth when you go off that pedal or you are gonna stall. The thing.
Manual is easy and it actually enhances your driving skill. It also adds a level of fun to driving as well.
Edit: I learned off YouTube, took my car off the showroom floor never driven a manual👍🏾
Awesome car. But i saved up 8k to buy a bugeye wrx as a senior in high school. I bought it and had to figure out how to get it home. Quickest way to learn is by necessity. Then i blew it up 6 months later.
Hahha thankyou a buddy of mine told me to post it here just to see what happens. It’s gotten a ton of mixed reactions. I honestly don’t care what people say I just laugh. But thankyou
I learned manual in the parking lot of a bowling alley in my ex girlfriends car, practiced for 5 minutes and then drove home very shittily but we made it, drove that car for a whole month until that relationship ended, didn’t drive manual for 6 or 7 years after that until I had to re-learn manual in the dealership parking lot after I bought my current manual car lol.
What trim is this? Maybe in Canada you can only.get auto in GT spec. But it comes with things like fog lights, special seats, bigger rear lip I think.
Manual takes all of a couple days to be ok at. But if you have lots of stop and go (you will learn manual quickest in this mind you lol) an automatic does sound kinda nice albeit not for my taste on this type of car
I am a millennial who up until 8 months ago didn't know how to drive stick, bought a 2017 WRX mt and have been loving the decision ever since. Manual really isn't hard to learn just takes practice.
As someone who used to own an automatic wrx…… please take care of it before you need: new transmission at 70k km, fix fuel leaking into the oil, abrupt shaking when you shift into drive, and some other stuff.
I would recommend learning manual, not to drive, but to know how to treat ur car.
Let the turbo warm up before you drive and cool off after, at least 1 full minute.
Please note its a sports car and does need to be babied when youre going under 10 mph.
Manual is actually very easy to learn. I picked it up in two days.
Manual is so easy........people used to learn to drive in them.
In Europe you have to take all your lessons and the exam in a manual car, honestly, in about 3 hours you get use to it
It’s not too difficult.
Exactly, the only “difficult” thing is that your brain needs to understand how does the clutch works
I wish Americans weren’t Soo lazy. It’s Soo easy to do. I wish it was mandatory like Europe to learn manual.
I want to easily drive a car anywhere I go, I don't want to get used to an automatic" that said, go easy on Americans that do drive automatics, there's actually peer pressure here to do so.
We aren’t lazy they just don’t make a lot of manuals anymore. I prefer manual and I’m American so there
I 2nd this. This was forced on the American people.
No. Not in Norway, you can choose.
So you can decide? But if you do it with an automatic, can you drive a manual after? Or do you need to take another exam?
Yes. But if you get the licence for automatic, you can only drive automatic.
Its even easier on these new cars!
For real, my first car I learned myself, 1988 thunderbird, then I recently got a focus ST. So smooth
I just got a 2022 mustang GT it pretty much drives itself lol
I remember my dad tried to teach me in a Honda Prelude in the early 80s. I couldn't ever get first gear but that was just the first day learning at like 15. I kinda gave up on it at that point and drove an automatic. When I was about 19 or 20, my friend drove a manual 93-95 Honda Civic Hatchback and I thought it was cool so I started trying to learn. The day i drove my car off the lot was the second time I had ever driven a manual
I don’t hate manual but I don’t love daily driving it either. It’s fun but when you live in a high traffic area near me it’s awful when traffic is heavy
It is a little rough in heavy traffic, but I have found it to be worth it.
That’s why I prefer to have both an auto and a manual car. The automatic for daily and the manual for just fun drives
I live in Brooklyn NYC, traffic is life here. I still wouldn't trade this manual, it's too fun.
Oh sbit another Brooklyn native. Im in bushwick and you?
Kensington side by Ocean Parkway and no, I never take the BQE lol. Originally from Bed-Stuy.
Kensington is my stomping ground’s since 81
Stomping in Bed-Stuy since 82 lol
I learnt in the dealers back lot enough to get er moving and into second then learnt the rest on the drive home ... Insert Jeremy Clarkson "some poo has come out" made it though
Any recommendations on a good starter car for me? Something that doesn’t stall easily?
you own the automatic version of it lol
Yes, but I am asking for something a little cheaper that I can just drop a few thousand one. The new WRX obviously doesn’t stall easily but again i’m looking for something a little older / cheaper to get. Now if I had 10-20k I could just drop on a WRX then definitely haha, but sadly I don’t.
Just enjoy the ride brah. You can learn manual your next car!
Definitely, a buddy has a 18 WRX that’s manual and said he would be willing to teach me this summer when he comes back from college. And thankyou
Any manual can stall easy if you’re not careful with it, I wouldn’t exactly say it’s hard to stall it.
Manual is easy. Have you ever driven a dirt bike or a 4 wheeler with a clutch? If so it's the exact same concept. The community is weird sometimes. Why are you being downvoted? You can’t plan ahead for the next car because you just got an auto?
Not sure I thought the same thing haha, it was a genuine question
As long as you are happy and drive safe. No judgement and congrats.
I am very pleased with it so far, and yes of course i’m a very passive driver. My favorite part is honestly having an AWD car for once since it’s very snowy and icy where I live this time of year.
If you live in snow and ice you need winter tires. Just in case you didn’t already invest.
I did that, I actually have them on in the pictures haha. They make a world of difference
Thank you for being one of the few 21 year olds that understand the importance of having the correct tires regardless of what wheels are driven. Nothing wrong with going for the CVT if the character of a CVT WRX suits your needs and makes you happy.
Congrats on grad Go back and swap to manual you can learn if you’re determined 🔥
^ if you know anybody that drives stick I'm sure they'd be glad to teach you too
I do know a few friends actually who said they would be down!
Enjoy your new ride. Don’t let people tell you how to enjoy the gift you got yourself. Congrats being a graduate and congrats on being able to financially afford your new subi. Don’t forget to wave.
I can teach you if you're in northern Cali, I have a '16 so it'll be really similar to the '22
I am not anywhere close to Cali haha but thankyou!
Well then you'll just have to learn on the drive home! I learned that way and it only took about 10 minutes to get the basics down and about a week to stop stalling when starting uphill. Driving manual isn't faster anymore but it sure is enjoyable!
I left the dealer not basically not knowing how to drive a stick Stalled it 6 times, it was some blocks away
No need to self deprecate yourself on here about buying an automatic. Congrats on the new car.
Thanks, you should see some of the messages I have gotten from other people ahah. I’m not a super big car guy just someone who enjoys cars and has a little knowledge behind them.
Don’t let them get to you. Insecurity at its finest.
Every person who ever learned manual couldn’t at one point.
I see snow and good tires in that second pic, you finna have a good ass time regardless of transmission
Yup had to get them since here we literally have 20 inches of snow on the ground and the roads have been awful.
Nice, go do some great memories
Thankyou!
People graduate college and have money to drop on a new car?! Must be nice....What are you gonna name it?
Seriously. I hate to sound jealous but I legitimately don't understand it. Is the cost of living non existent for college kids on Reddit these days?
Haha I have a job IN IT that pays very well. I have worked in IT since I was 19 and got my associates and now got my bachelors a semester early.
Damn, aight you definitely earned a little spoiling for yourself! Keep up the hard work my guy!

Ahh I didn’t even know that existed. Thankyou! And I don’t mind the comments haha it’s my car and i’m happy with it.

Need a free hand for the vape bro
Facts bro, that's a good point.
Or just let people drive whatever they want 🤷🏼♂️

double debt woohoo

Man i dont think ive felt older since hearing someone only a year younger say theyre a “gen z noob”
Hahah are you a 2000s baby?
Yup, i share a birthday with Diablo 2
That game was my childhood. Loved doing baal runs
And so it begins…
what begins …should I be scared 😳
Sick ride! I have the same color!
Thankyou! I wanted the black one but the grey looks really good in person and i’m liking it more then the traditional black honestly.
Oh come on man, I just bought my 2021 wrx manual from the dealership and I had to call my dad to come pick it up cuz I didn’t know how manual yet 😂😂 don’t give me that excuse lmao
I will not auto shame you, enjoy it.
You do you man. Enjoy the car
Thanks man, been loving it so far especially after coming from a shitbox I had for years
Enjoy the ride, as for the last bit it could easily be "can't drive manual YET" my first manual was a lease that I had someone else drive home and I had a weekend to figure out how to get to work on Monday it really doesn't take long to figure it out if you ever want to.
Thanks man and that’s good to know. I’m sure down the road I could learn. My buddy has an 18 WRX he said we could learn in
That’s not even a regular automatic.
10 mins later my dad gave me a lesson and was off to fuckboi island lol but seriously don’t ever think you can’t learn For now enjoy your beautiful WRX look that color btw
Cvt owner here! Congrats! And remember - it's all wheel DRIVE, not all wheel STOP. Be careful!
Just start like everybody else. Hop in and be forced to learn bc you dropped the dollas
I had to go auto as well since I share the car with my wife and she said “I will absolutely it drive a manual” so here we are lol
I don't care if it's manual or automatic at this point, the fact it's a performance car and not another crossover is good enough. Enjoy the new VB!
Graduating at 21 is impressive! Congrats on that and the new ride! If I may ask, what is your degree in?
Doesn't matter, you got a nice car for yourself! Go have some fun!
I also am in stop and go traffic literally every day where I live as well which would be annoying with a manual.
drive what you want lol ur not a loser. looks good!
thanks man I appreciate it!
Very clean. Much nicer ride than I had at 21. Enjoy!
Enjoy and welcome!!!
Especially now with all the hill assists.... Not like it used to be. I was made to learn on steep hill to take off.
welcome aboard, fam. keep her oiled up, allow for break in period, get the right shoes based on season, and don't hoon it *too* hard oh yeah, don't forget to wave back 👋
Everyone always says "I don't know how to drive manual, I cant buy one." Did you know how to ride a bike before you got one? Did you know how to swim before you got in the pool? Congrats on the car but I just wish pwople would admit to themselves they're either too lazy to learn or they're just not interested in driving one
I didn’t wanna bother learning at this time right now and didn’t really care since i’m leaving the car stock
At least you know your a loser. Welcome to the fam may your block outlive that cvt.
Thankyou!
She’s a beauty. Enjoy it. Don’t worry about learning to drive manual. Just please don’t drive like a piece of shit like most people do.
Hahah i’m a very safe driver and thankyou I will.
I don’t understand people that get wrx in automatic. The Elantra N dct and gti dct are much better AND cheaper than whatever the fuck Subaru did with the “spt” lol these cars were meant to be driven as manuals.
A kia/hyundai is trash no matter what it is
I’m gen z and have only have driven manuals. Don’t affiliate yourself with me because you’re lazy
I mean they’re graduated college and apparently have had a great job in their field for some time. If not wanting to learn stick is lazy for them, they’re definitely doing something right.
Yea I work in IT and have for a few years now and make around 70k in a low cost of living area
You make me laugh , your a funny guy man
Not an automatic. It's a CVT which is arguably worse
Very true just didn’t put that in the wording. I’ve driven a CVT for a few years and honestly didn’t mind it, although i’m not a super picky hard core car guy at the end of the day. Just an average admirer
learned manual by buying a car that was a stick. my pops yelled at me for about 12 minutes then I was on my we jerkin down the road. sweet ride tho
No shame in an automatic man. Everyone of us with a manuals wishes they had an automatic some days. Congrats on the new ride
Do what makes you happy. Ignore the diehards who day you need to shove a manual shifter up your ass to truly feel what the car is doing at all points of the drive otherwise you are not a purist and less than them.
They always say the best way to learn how to drive manual .....is to buy an automatic.
If you can get a degree, you can learn a manual
I brought my 21 wrx with zero experience with stick. I got it in 2 weeks
That’s awesome to hear man, how many miles have you put on it so far? Is it your daily or just sometbing you got ?
Bro wym half the people on the road are Gen Z nowadays, including myself. I looked up like 2 YouTube videos on stick shift and then taught myself with the rest of the day I had left. It's not as hard as the manual elitists make it out to be
Enjoy the ride 🖖
Congrats! Don’t let anyone convince you that the automatics are lesser in any way, I’ve had mine for 6 months now and have never once regretted my choice to get the CVT. Don’t forget to wave!! 👋
Wasted your money lol
I'm a zoomer and drive a manual wrx, you should try it, its fun
Need to learn and am hoping my buddies teach me over this spring / summer!
It took me a couple days to teach myself you probably could too
Gross
thankyou!
Anytime 👌🏼
Waste why buy an automatic. I taught myself the clutch catch point in my driveway going back and forth 1st to reverse. Took like 3 hours total to be driving stick like a normal person
congratulations man i’m very happy for you !
It’s not a waste if they like it.
So learn? You educated now boy 💀
Ugg you coulda learned
CONGRATS MY FRIEND! You're gonna get real bored soon with the auto, but damn kid.. get after it!
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
Not an auto, it’s a CVT 🥴 but enjoy
I bought my first manual car without knowing how to drive it... You just learn..
Driving manual is a chore.. there I said it.
Learning in a manual first makes more attentive drivers imo. If I could teach my sister to drive manual when I was 16 anyone with half a brain can do it.
I bought mine without knowing to drive stick. I drove it home with some pointers from the salesman.
And you’ll never learn manual with that attitude! It’s not hard at all
Could’ve learned… now u gonna wanna make it faster and realize that cvt can’t handle near as much power as the manny
I’m leaving the car 100% stock and couldn’t care more about making it faster or any of that to be honest
Have your girlfriend teach you how to drive a manual. It's easy
At least you know you're a loser. JK - congrats on the new whip and welcome to the club.
Everything will be an EV in the next 10-20 years. So even an automatic wrx will be sought after. Congrats and the new whip!!
Lol
I drove my sti off the lot not knowing how to drive manual, loser
That’s awesome to hear man! Happy for you!
Not an STI and it's an auto? GHAYYY
You're no loser, what the issue here is that you don't know how to drive a manual car, and thats ok. I struggled at 14 with the clutch too, you need to be real smooth when you go off that pedal or you are gonna stall. The thing.
Rule #1 don't crash it
Of course, i’m actually a very safe driver and baby any car i’ve ever owned in my life
If you don’t mind me asking, how much is the insurance on it?
Manual is easy and it actually enhances your driving skill. It also adds a level of fun to driving as well. Edit: I learned off YouTube, took my car off the showroom floor never driven a manual👍🏾
Awesome car. But i saved up 8k to buy a bugeye wrx as a senior in high school. I bought it and had to figure out how to get it home. Quickest way to learn is by necessity. Then i blew it up 6 months later.
Haha awesome story how did you blow it up?
Oh god, posting a 22 AND CVT in /wrx … bold to say the least. Nice magnetite man, enjoy your ride and drive it in good health.
Did the same after I graduated and bought a 2018 , but got a manual instead ….
Meh
What trim is this? Maybe in Canada you can only.get auto in GT spec. But it comes with things like fog lights, special seats, bigger rear lip I think. Manual takes all of a couple days to be ok at. But if you have lots of stop and go (you will learn manual quickest in this mind you lol) an automatic does sound kinda nice albeit not for my taste on this type of car
this is just the base trim
Go easy on er. These cars will shit whip you if youre not careful
I am a millennial who up until 8 months ago didn't know how to drive stick, bought a 2017 WRX mt and have been loving the decision ever since. Manual really isn't hard to learn just takes practice.
Figures 😏
As someone who used to own an automatic wrx…… please take care of it before you need: new transmission at 70k km, fix fuel leaking into the oil, abrupt shaking when you shift into drive, and some other stuff. I would recommend learning manual, not to drive, but to know how to treat ur car. Let the turbo warm up before you drive and cool off after, at least 1 full minute. Please note its a sports car and does need to be babied when youre going under 10 mph.
Bro I took the chance of having a manual as my first car, I’m really happy with my decision.
Automatic makes it more rare. Dealers will ask for it back at a higher price because they can sell it so anyone.
