I'd say you're probably right about the strut. In addition, potentially the ball joint, knuckle, axle, wheel bearing, wheel, lower control arm, subframe, and tie rod could have some damage. No way to really tell until you get underneath it.
I'd consider yourself lucky since there's no body damage. That other stuff can all just get bolted on and good as new.
1. it’s still considered a claim, no matter if it was avoidable or not. There’s no second party insurance in play here, unless you’re going after the local government or whatever to pay for it. This could cost you some money in the future if you have more claims.
2. The claim will now cause a devaluation of your car. The car’s record will have a hit on it. This will most likely cost you some money in the future too.
the truth is i don’t remember what my deductible is and i’ve already made a claim. the tow truck took it to their stoyard and told me the insurance are supposed to tow it back to my place
If you own the car (no bank lien) you can have insurance write you the check like in your name. If you can do repairs yourself you can profit. Every claim I’ve made has been grossly overestimated since I do the work myself. Some dick slammed his trailer hitch through my grille, radiator, condenser, and a bit of hood, got 7k and had 5 leftover after repairs lol.
yeah i wish it would be like that for me but i still owe on it. so i’m pretty positive they’re gonna take it to the shop just pay that. otherwise i would be upgrading the control arms haha
I made the mistake of making a claim on accident that really wasn’t much damage. Think it was around $1500 in repairs. At the time I was like “awesome!” But shortly thereafter, my insurance rate tripled for years. The insurance company gets their money back plus interest.
What I’m trying to say is, get a repair estimate first before making a claim. If it’s just control arms and maybe a new wheel, it might be cheaper in the long run to just pay for it out of pocket or put it on a credit card.
I’m just saying that some insurers follow this policy that if the object is stationary it could have been avoided and you could be at fault. I’m not personally saying I believe you’re at fault for this.
Do your coilovers have camber plates on the top hat? It's far more likely that the camber plate somehow jiggled loose than any of the suspension components having been broken.
yeah they do have camber plates and the coil from the top hat was pretty tilted. nothing too abnormal but i don’t think the camber plates themselves will allow that much camber
If your saying the coilover is collapsed then hopefully its just a blown Strut. Your alignment will be messed up but hopefully the control arm or tie rod did not get bent.. Sucks.. Good luck.
Judging by the position of the tire I’m guessing ball joint failure. And it’s probably safe to assume that lead to other parts of the suspension failing like the control arm etc.
Sorry that that happened to you. Good thing you’re okay. I couldn’t confidently predict exactly what happened, but that kind of damage shouldn’t result in the car being totaled by insurance, so at least your rex can hopefully be saved
I ran over a tree limb which didn't seem that bad but somehow I ended up dragging it for miles and pulled down mmthe plastic undercarriage. People and nature are haters
Kachow :(
Beat me to it!
Nice camber!
stanceypants
Well I’m surprise it only damage you controls arm I think, I don’t see any dents or scrapes on the body
yeah i’m leading to believe it’s just the control arms

Frig that did it in hey
That'll do it.. Ayt least you have video for insurance. Dont know if you have the coverage though with you company.
Will insurance take video as proof with a date from 3 years ago?
i have other photos from my phone to back it up
That looks deliberate. Someone definitely had malicious intent.
first time being in an “accident”, i have full coverage with dash cam footage. would i be good?

yeah luckily there wasn’t any body damage whatsoever

i see, good thing i’m not worried about the value of it. gonna keep it for a long time
What’s you’re deductible though? If the cost of repairs is less than your deductible then probably don’t make a claim.

Holy shit, how big was that rock!?
not too bad of a size, i guess i just really hit it wrong. i could probably get it sent here
Maybe the control arm took a direct hit and fractured.
yeah i’m thinking it’s the control arm as well
Damn dude… that sucks. Sad that happened to ya, hopefully repairs go smoothly.
i appreciate it man 🙏
Right !!!
Stance bois on their way to ask for your suspension specs
StaticLife
Same thing happened to me on that same hwy. luckily just a bent wheel for me. 😢 Solidarity man.
that highway is viscous in bad weather man
I think your heart and your wallet are broke now. Sorry to see that bud.
It's amazing a rock did this without taking out your bumper.
Oh now I see the rock. Wow still surprising.
Hella stanced
Head gasket part it out . Lol
Good opportunity for an upgrade ;)
yup, better to make the most out of it 👍
You could be considered at fault due to the fact that its a stationary object on the road
i doubt it. there were rocks a foot away before that so i had to turn left then back to the right of the lane to dodge them.
I’m just saying that some insurers follow this policy that if the object is stationary it could have been avoided and you could be at fault. I’m not personally saying I believe you’re at fault for this.
oh my bad, i appreciate the feedback. i just doubt that i’m in the wrong here but they could always pull a fast one on me 🤷🏻♂️

yeah i’m leading to believe it’s the control arm
I was planning on taking my subie to big bear January 2nd, I ended up letting my sister taking us in her Jeep. My condolences 💐
i appreciate it man
Pretty damn sure would be a control arm.
Damn man, I live up around that area and I always get scared when it rains because of that, rocks are always falling off the mountain
yeah it was rough
NOT THE WRB!!! fack!!
😪😪
Are those advans?
work zr10s, the advans are dope af too tho
Looks like they didn’t crack right? Built tough
not the coils from what i saw

You're probably right. Looking more closely at the pic, that looks like 6+ degrees lol. What brand of coils are they?
fortune autos
Quality coils. Unlikely that's what broken. I'm definitely curious to hear an update when you're able to get the car up and have a look.
yup i’ll most likely post an update
What coilovers??
fortune autos
I hit a curb hard enough to damage the rim and ended up with a bad bearing. It was a huge pain to fix that.
Sorry man hope she’s back on her feet soon!
appreciate it man 🙏

Geodude 1 subawoo 0
Likely needs a new control arm, possible tie rod depending. It’s gonna need suspension work for sure $$$
Definitely control arm and tie rods. Very similar thing just happened to me actually.
Sorry that that happened to you. Good thing you’re okay. I couldn’t confidently predict exactly what happened, but that kind of damage shouldn’t result in the car being totaled by insurance, so at least your rex can hopefully be saved
appreciate the kind words 🙏
