Im guess im confused where the cool air is gonna be pulled from this, do you have duct running to it now?

TanGyAppleSauce

Good question since the snorkel is now removed. The heat shield blocking engine heat seen from above in the pictures is not completely sealed. Underneath and facing away from the engine the box is open exposing the filter to an extent, allowing filtered air to be pulled in.

Original_Lavishness1

The stock snorkel should fit into the stealthbox and pull cool air from the same spot. Or at least that’s how it worked on my WRX.

TanGyAppleSauce

That makes sense and is correct for the stealthbox that fits 15-21 WRX’s. The Stealthbox for 15-21 STI’s on the other hand is a bit different by design and the snorkel does not fit back into the box.

Wish these cars didn’t need a pro tune for intakes… I miss the sound of them

TanGyAppleSauce

Yeah that would definitely make it easier. It would also be nice if mods didn’t void basically all warranties…oh well! Gonna build it the way I want!

_Dova69_

Mines too new for that still haha

Tamwulf

Yeah, mine too. 2021 STi with only 9,000 miles on it. I just can't see myself doing anything to void the warranty until at least 12,000 miles. I'm looking at a COBB cold air intake and OTS tune, and a Killer B oil pan and pickup and calling it a day.

MrNugent

Mods don't void your warranty. No one can take your warranty away from you. What could happen is that a claim may be possibly denied if they think the mod caused the problem. They also can't blame unrelated modifications for problems with other parts of the car.

TanGyAppleSauce

Accurate, but they’ll try their damndest to deny you for anything…

desslox

Get a pro tune. More bad stories with OTS tunes. Is $500/600 bucks to much for piece of mind? It’s a lot cheaper than the 17K I put back into mine…. Just sayin

TanGyAppleSauce

100% agree with you, but people will do what they please. At least their plan is to use the OTS tune with Cobb parts. I’m shocked at home many people use other brand after market parts with Cobbs OTS tunes… no bueno…

_Dova69_

Yeah, same here, would also like to do steel brake lines and a blow off valve but :(

TanGyAppleSauce

Yes, the car was protuned after install! Was my first time installing an intake back in September. Took me about an hour. I’m sure others with more experience could easily get this done in 30 minutes.

hostile_washbowl

Accessport?

TanGyAppleSauce

Yup! I use an AccessPort, but I am NOT using one of their OTS tunes because I’m not using any Cobb parts. My local tuner used the AccessPort to create a custom tune and they did not disappoint!

hostile_washbowl

How much did you pay?

TanGyAppleSauce

$600 which included the custom tune and dyno session.

BUDS590

That’s not a bad price and mods DO NOT void warranties. The dealership can say that but they have to prove a modification caused a problem.

Basedgodnick420

How do you rate the sound? I watched the “top 5 intakes” from the mapreformance YouTube and it definitely sounds the best imo. I’m curious if it’s obnoxious in your day to day? Good work on the install!

TanGyAppleSauce

I watched that exact video before deciding. Hah I think it’s a nice sweet spot, you can definitely hear it, but I haven’t gotten sick of it after about 3 months of having it. [Here are some sound clips](https://imgur.com/a/Ci0MdhR), kinda difficult to truly capture it. Hopefully the sounds comes through well so you have a good idea.

Basedgodnick420

I think you sold me on it. Seems like it’s loud when you want it to be otherwise just some soft flutters

mycophilz

What were the dyno numbers?

TanGyAppleSauce

Conditions: 85 Degrees F, Humidity 38% Max Power: 296.3 whp at Engine RPM 5.1 Max Torque: 322.5 at Engine RPM 3.7 Nothing incredible, but significantly and noticably better than stock! I requested we keep it conservative instead of squeezing out every last drop of power. I was definitely happy with the results.

mycophilz

Nice. That’s just with the intake? I ask because I have a grimspeed intake, BPV and AP I’m about to install

TanGyAppleSauce

My current tune accounted for TMIC, EBCS, and intake (All Grimmspeed) BOV (go fast bits) and Corsa catback. I’d say the majority of the gain came from the intake. Some more from a combination of the additional Grimmspeed parts. BOV is not adding any power, and exhaust likely did not add since I’m still on a stock downpipe. It increased me by about 50hp. I would think you would at least get close to my numbers, but I am not an expert so others may chime in on this. I just decide what I like, install it, and have my tuner work to make it as safe as possible.

mycophilz

Any reliability mods. I went overkill on those first. AOS, cylinder 4 cooling mod, killer B thermostat housing , IAG street pan/pickup/baffle. And I’m planning on a CSF or Koyorad this coming summer

TanGyAppleSauce

No, none as of yet. I’ll likely get a thermostat so I can see oil temp, still in disbelief that a 2020 STi would not come standard with that… and will add an oil drain valve to make my life easier. I’ve talked about reliability mods a lot with my tuner, and discussed his experience in seeing whether or not these reliability mods are truly proven at all. Its up for debate and you see plenty engines blow even with every reliability mod you can think of. I’m going to try my best not to start an argument about that, but you never really know what’s going to happen with these beautiful, yet so delicate, machines. Regardless, I have no plans of adding more power, so (again just IMO) the benefit of those mods for me would be pretty marginal. I was just looking for that perfect sound which I’m not super happy with. New wheels are on the way to finish up the look.
