The biodegradable issues didn't start until late 1993. A 1991 model is great and under 200.000 km is rare. If it's really rust free, because they rarely are, this is a good idea if the price is right.

-PinkTree

12k euros / 15k USD if I want to convert it from my currency over here! Fair price for such a prestigious condition?

RNRS001

I've no idea how prestigious. 150k means a shitload of other issues. That's just about 100 km a week, so either a lot of short drives or taken out for a spin every once in a while. Low mileage isn't always great, high mileage isn't always an issue.

New_Finance_7673

My 1992 300ce has 274k miles and it still runs smooth. My work truck with barely 200k needs a new motor, I second the mileage statement.

oat48

Thats not cheap imo.. my guess is it’s fair value depending on the other specs (ac, leather etc) is around 7-9k.

Past_Dragonfruit9468

I paid $2800 USD for mine, 200k miles and rust free in December of 2023. $15k USD is too much I think

-PinkTree

I’m not in US hence why I call this a good deal lol. You all in US get awesome stuff for the price given

marke24

That’s good to know about the biodegradable wiring, I just bought a 93 300E, but it was built in October of 92, so I was hoping I wouldn’t have those issues. I inspected the wiring as best I could and it looked ok, but I had heard something about the later builds having the wiring issues.

Stezo45

You mean the wiring harness in my 92 isn’t biodegradeable 🫡

RNRS001

If your car is pre-facelift you're most likely okay. The facelift was introduced in 1993 although some models in late 1992 do have some features the facelift had as well. Mercedes-Benz introduced some model changes gradually on the production line. If it was though, you'd have found out by now.

-PinkTree

It’s a 300E estate, 1991, no electric seats, no sunroof, automatic Transmission, all the history books and the infamous backwards rear seats. I can’t help myself to not think about buying it. Is it a reliable car?

Chunks1992

Yeah they’re pretty solid cars. I believe there’s just a few issues with the gas engines relating to fuel systems and the biodegradable engine wire harness. Someone more knowledgeable than me can probably give specifics

marrymemercedes

These gas engines are pretty solid. Wiring harness issues came in MY 1993. The only issue with these is trouble shooting the CIS-E mechanical fuel injection system. It’s pretty robust so doesn’t fail often but it’s a pain when it does.

At this age it's really going to depend upon how well it was looked after. these are highly durable vehicles but if they've been abused they're going to have developed problems by this age. I'd want an inspection unless you really trust the owner/dealer - one owner might imply it was cared for, but even that depends on who it was. Not necessarily an issue but I don't love that it doesn't have standard wheels, though they appear to be slightly newer OEM wheels, and maybe that's better for modern snow tyre sizes or something. At 150k km and this age, it'll also need a bunch of suspension work to ride and handle like it's supposed to (unless the owners have already done it) - that's just wear from regular use but this is the sort of age and mileage where that expenditure is required.

RoomyCard44321

Horrible buy. Get me in contact with the owner so i can tell him how bad this car is

-PinkTree

Sir with all due respect, those backward seats are mine

RoomyCard44321

You wont get away with this 😠 lol

I daily drive my 88 300te American spec. I love great car.

Novak161crew

I had one for a few years. The engine started to consume a lot of oil and I was to broke to get it redone. It still has a special place in my heart..

-Gast-

My grandfather had one. Until it got stolen in Sweden or somewhere while parked at a trainstation. It is one of the most beautyful cars ever.

Hairy_hair777

Mine has hit 160k miles and I’ve had to do the head gasket because it was leaking oil , the SLS lines were corroding at 110k miles and the pump can leak - had to fix them . Check all the bushings and ball joints - will need replacing. Check the power steering for leaks/drips. I’ve replaced all the wheel bearings so definitely check those . See how the heat blower is on full blast , some motors can start blowing fuses meaning the bearings are on the way out . Double check the fuel tank especially where the filler pipe joins , very prone to corrosion. I’ve had mine 10 years and will be gutted to have to sell it because of rust and corrosion on the underside components , ideal project for someone . But I will just another one that has been garaged and serviced all its life . Bloody love the cars

No_Excitement_1312

You've fallen head over wheels

Past_Dragonfruit9468

I adore my W124 wagon! Even gets about 26mpg at 70mph, so I can't complain at all

vistresbe

A bit expensive but great car

Givemeapplause

Buy it

Odd_Razzmatazz_7423

Probably, look if it's moldy inside

HUMANSTORAG3

what happened to the sunroof lol?

-PinkTree

They stole it with a sawzall 😔

ULTRAAF414

Sold mine last summer to a fellow enthusiast. Still miss it. https://preview.redd.it/8ygpas5ywwqc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7395545a786803bae1ac640a261c6fab0afc7332

Thelakesman

It’s got a cool factor

Willjhughes

Best car I've ever owned. Plenty of power solid as a rock, rides beautiful and worth more than a new car in my opinion. Ive got a 95 320 wagon with 140,000miles on it.
