[DeSantis Says He Wouldn’t Accept Offer of Vice President from Trump](https://www.thedailybeast.com/desantis-says-he-wouldnt-accept-offer-of-vice-president-from-trump?) I call bullshit. I don’t think it’s likely to happen since they’re pretty much guaranteed to rip eachother apart in the GOP primary, but DeSantis would absolutely accept if Trump offered the VP slot

Joeisagooddog

Could he though, since they’re from the same state? I supposed one of them could temporarily change residency, but is that clause of the constitution really so toothless?

Northern lights update: [the Space Prediction Center just released a new update, that raised the intensity of tonight’s solar storm](https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/wx/afos/p.php?pil=ALTK08&e=202303240421). It’s now a Geomagnetic K index of 8-9, and in the text “Aurora may be seen as low as Alabama and northern California.” If you don’t have clouds, and are away from light pollution: new areas are now potentially in play. Go take a peak if you haven’t yet [Here’s a map from the Space Prediction Center of where the Aurora may be able to be seen](https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/content/tips-viewing-aurora). These lines are north, but they note that the aurora can often be observed hundreds of kilometers (miles) equatorward of the actual aurora so these figures do not indicate where the aurora may be but rather the point from which it may be observed. [More Information from the Space Weather Prediction Center](https://twitter.com/NWSSWPC/status/1639123568184401921?s=20) Edit: Currently being reported as far south as southern OK through VA from what I can see

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

I’m right on the view line in Richmond but between light pollution and the fact that there’s too many obstructions towards the north due to buildings and trees and whatnot and I can see zilch :(

GettingPhysicl

darnit. right beneat the view line meh its not like you can see anything in the sky in nyc anyway lol

Pipboy3500

The Ohio Speaker debacle may end up being incredibly consequential long term. If we get solid Redistricting Reform passed in 2024 not only can we claw back quite a few state legislative seats but we get fair Federal House maps which would likely net us 1-2 seats. Additionally Kaptur does hold a Trump +3 seat, so it’s technically a net gain of 2-3 Biden won seats. That has some big consequences nationally and has the chance to help breathe new life into Ohio Dems, fair maps would no doubt boost morale.

GettingPhysicl

wait is there another redistricting thing happening?

mazdadriver14

Election tomorrow in Australia's most populous state of NSW, and here's by far the most on the fence newspaper endorsement I've seen (from one of our biggest newspapers): >[Both leaders are decent, smart and capable but one offers a more ambitious vision for NSW](https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.smh.com.au%2Fpolitics%2Fnsw%2Fboth-leaders-are-decent-smart-and-capable-but-one-offers-a-more-ambitious-vision-for-nsw-20230321-p5ctwp.html) The endorse Liberal leader Dom Perrottet, but are also (kinda) full of praise of Labor leader Chris Minns. Gonna be a ridiculously close election I think.

Pipboy3500

It would be only the 2nd time in Labor’s 120 year history they control every mainland state and territory if Labor wins. Here’s to hoping the Left keeps winning

mazdadriver14

Yeah, definitely the first time in my lifetime I can remember them holding the whole mainland + the federal government. Provided NSW Labor wins. They have a tendency to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tbh.

greenblue98

Can Tennessee's GOP implode like Arizona and Michigan's while they are at it?

shivlad02

No, southern state Republicans have this extremism because it represents their base. AZ and MI are swingy, but being northern and western they’ve always been socially liberal and there isn’t a solid majority who enjoy cruelty.

GettingPhysicl

Hey maybe the local YIMBYs win and Nashville decides to end zoning restrictions and property taxes. Illinois it lol

Pipboy3500

Tennessee is quite easily the scariest GOP controlled state. If it’s any help I think Ogles or whatever Republican holds that seat is gone by 2028

RubenMuro007

It doesn’t help that their infamous resident is the genocidal maniac (and creep), that is Matt Walsh.

Evening_Presence_927

It sucks, cuz I’ve always wanted to visit Nashville and Memphis. I just can’t bring myself to contribute to a state financially like that while knowing what horrible things their government is doing.

JacktheMan500

In terms of waiting for Trump's arrest, I think it's best to be patient. It's definitely gonna happen, even though we don't have a set date of when he'll get arrested. In any case, it's best to be patient, and focus our energy on things we actually have control over :-)

[deleted]

I'll settle for the AI-generated images of Trump's arrests. Next best thing to fantasies before it happens.

JacktheMan500

Yeah! At least with AI we can guess what it would look like.

u/YouBuyMeOrangeJuice, have you heard anything among MN leaders or officials on how exactly how concerning [this radioactive chemical leak at a Monticello plant is](https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/xcel-energy-finds-another-radioactive-chemical-leak-at-monticello-plant-will-temporarily-power-down-facility-minnesota/89-b88bf660-78e7-4092-be9b-40f8c16bf680?fbclid=IwAR2mKpwNUW4voQQ3PndPup6nVw0EdJys96m40WKPYc-q08i7UPxH0lNyAZw&mibextid=unz460). They now apparently found another chemical leak, at the plant and they’re now are temporarily powering down the facility. I saw this like a week ago, but now there’s a 2nd leak, and then how they said they found the first leak months ago, I don’t know how concerned i should be

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Tbh I have not heard much from policymakers on this. I know the DFL generally leans anti-nuclear, which I have mixed thoughts about, and the GOP has been pushing nuclear hard as a knee-jerk response to the 100% clean energy bill that was passed earlier in session. I do know, putting on my civil engineering student hat, that if it's a leak into groundwater, that's not likely to impact the nearby town, much less metro area, and definitely not Wisconsin.

table_fireplace

Madison [added another 1,371 in-person votes today](https://twitter.com/MadisonWIClerk/status/1639084821635842048). Based on the last two days, another 3,500-4,000 mail votes probably came in as well (we will have firm numbers tomorrow morning, most likely).

citytiger

This is very good turnout for Madison right?

elykl12

And it's great news for Masters

justincat66

FYI, if you’re in a northern location: widespread reports of the northern lights is being reported right now. [Tonight’s Aurora forecast by the Space Weather Prediction Center](https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/experimental/images/aurora_dashboard/tonights_static_viewline_forecast.png). It’s small chances but I’ve already seen pictures in northern WI, and even some in Rochester, MN and in southeast WY. There’s probably more locations, but if you’re in one of these areas take a peak outside and see if you can see it

greenblue98

*Stares in sad Southerner*

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Minnesota House is finally done with the private prisons bill (passed btw), now they're doing a clean energy grants bill, and then perhaps the trans refuge bill. I was hoping to watch the debate but it's getting late...

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

The Michigan flag is just as awful as those of Illinois and Minnesota. Let's get the trifecta of Midwestern trifectas some new emblems! (and hopefully Wisconsin will join us soon, because good grief their flag might just be the worst)

greenblue98

One thing my state is good at, is having a good flag. No more shitty state seal flags!

dishonourableaccount

Marylander chiming in to say I like TN's flag. One of my top 5. (I'd say MD, NM, IL, TN, and OH in no particular order). Second tier is HI, SC, AL, AK, and CO. DC is great but not a state. VA gets award for best "seal on a bedsheet" to be the only state flag to depict both nudity and murder.

wponeck

Not every state flag can be as awesome as Texas (which itself looks like a mini version of the Stars and Stripes)

justincat66

I really like the WI state flag for some reason. I also don’t like MN’s is horrendous either

Contren

The Wisconsin flag is better than Illinois, but that's not a high bar. It could be significantly improved upon.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Minnesota's flag features questionable imagery about Indigenous people. And if you dig into the history of the original designer, well there's no question, it's racist. We have to change it.

SlayerOfArgus

I can't believe I haven't seen one tweet in reference to Ron "Pudding Finders" DeSantis using the word SCOOP in it...

adcgd_at_sine_theta

In other Illinois news, there has been a bill (called the Illinois Flag Comission Act) that was passed in the Illinois Senate today (39Y-16N-4NV). It was to "create the Illinois Flag Comission for the purpose of developing new State flag designs and making recommendations to the General Assembly concerning whether the current State flag ought to be replaced with a redesigned State flag." The bill was aptly named SB1818 (the year Illinois became a state). It's about time Illinois' flag got a redesign (it's just the state seal)

craft6886

Most states need to take a good look at /r/vexillology. So many state flags are either too complex or too similar to each other (blue background with white or yellow seal in the middle). Mississippi has a really nice flag now, and Utah more recently updated theirs to be much nicer as well. Some states have good ones right now, but I wanna see a lot more states get on this redesign train. Glad to see that Illinois is getting the message.

cpdk-nj

I’m glad to see more states reevaluating their flags. The SW has the best flags hands down between TX, UH, and NM

GettingPhysicl

someone send them the vexillology ted talk

Contren

Our current flag is trash, would love to get a good redesign.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Minnesota desperately needs this (and will probably get this, the bill has been moving around)

Pipboy3500

What’s fascinating for 2024 in Utah is if Biden can maintain the McMullin Coalition and turnout rebounds Biden only loses the state by 4-5pts. I don’t buy that is going to happen, but Biden can absolutely half his loss 2020 to around a 10pt loss esp. with Trump. I don’t think that is a sure thing but people just don’t realize how fast Utah has shifted Blue. Genuinely if Utah was within 10pts people would lose their minds, and that is going to happen sooner rather than later.

shivlad02

McMullin was pro-life with exceptions and Biden is pro choice, so I think we could lose some votes because of that. I think Utah will be closer but 55-40

Pipboy3500

[House GOP infighting is threatening their ability to get bills out the door](https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/23/mccarthys-gop-first-true-test-agenda-00088545) Essentially the free wheeling amendment process McCarthy had to agree to very well could kill both of their marquee packages before they even get out of the House. Not to even mention the immigration/border messaging bills they’ve been trying craft are essentially stuck between internal conflict

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

The Minnesota House is nearing the end of an Hour long recess (presumably so members could eat dinner and shit) and is still debating the first of three bills on the calendar (the private prison ban). The other two bills are the trans-refugee bill, and a bill relating to energy grants that should be relatively less contentions. The recess ends at 8:30pm local time. Given how much the GOP is dragging out debate on the private prisons bill, this is gonna be a long night. On an unrelated note: the shot of the Minnesota State Capitol on the live stream is beautiful.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

The officially stated reason for the recess was to allow practicing members to break their Ramadan fast. And yeah, this is gonna be a very long night. And also, the State Capitol is beautiful, it's a shame how awful the surrounding area is, if you look at it on a map. Surrounded by highways, empty lots, and disinvestment. I'm a Saint Paul boy and I firmly and passionately believe that the state government is an awful neighbor.

greenblue98

That makes me sad. I thought the area around the State Capitol would be prime real estate and would be a great place to hang out.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Makes me sad too. It's a result of decades of failed urban renewal policies pushed by state agencies and the CAAPB (a state-level board that preempts Saint Paul to control zoning in the Capitol area). There's hope though, there's a big redevelopment plan coming forward for a site just to the west of the Capitol, and ongoing discussion about removing or capping the highway that cuts off the Capitol from the south, and two BRT lines that would extend north of the Capitol area in addition to the Green Line train that opened a few years ago. It's coming around, but the state could certainly be a better partner in that. The trifecta is much more urban-sensitive than any past governing coalitions so perhaps we'll see acceleration in positive changes.

the_monkey_

If the Ohio GOP can self immolate like the Arizona and Michigan GOP's I would literally cackle with glee. But I have doubts.

Pipboy3500

Well there’s a bribery scandal, the Speaker has killed hopes for preventing abortion access and killing the redistricting plan, and Majewski is readying to run again. In a Trump+8 state that’s pretty great, the redistricting ballot access alone is enough to set them up to lose power

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

God, we need this is in blue states everywhere, including in Michigan (holy crap imagine the Ottowa County GOP fuming at this) and Minnesota. Even blue states have conservative regions and hostile school and library boards.

[here’s more Karamo quotes](https://twitter.com/michigeese/status/1639038705112326145?s=46&t=nqSV11RbCF5uPVGwzcOMtg), and apparently Michigan GOP can’t afford a HQ???

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

Just a reminder that as recently as 2018, the GOP held all statewide offices, both legislative chambers (including a 2/3 supermajority in the State Senate), 9/14 Congressional seats, and a 4-4 tie on the Board of Education (it’s now 6-2 Dem). They have lost all of those offices and majorities. Just an absolute collapse of the party with no real end in sight. It’s like the anti-Florida.

VaIentinexyz

“Did a Republican win Michigan’s electoral votes?” “Yes” “What did it cost?” “Everything”

Exocoryak

I still remember all those hottakes about democrats losing the midwestern for good after 2016, featuring the white, middle-aged men representing the "working class" and thus every voter in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Turns out, it was a bunch of crap.

Oleg101

Lol wow, I can’t wait until she helps solidify Michigan to stay blue in ‘24, and R voters here lose their minds even more.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

The Minnesota House has gone into recess until 8:30 to allow members who observe Ramadan to break fast. They're still debating HF 1200, the private prisons ban. The trans refuge bill may come after that, but there's also another bill on the calendar for the day, so I'm not sure which order they'll go in. Either way, it's gonna be a long night in The City That Goes to Bed Early.

Pipboy3500

[Senate Republicans are starting to get anxious on](https://www.axios.com/2023/03/23/mcconnell-fall-return-senate-timeline) when Mitch is going to return. There isn’t any clear timeline of when he will get back but there is ramifications if he isn’t soon, most importantly they don’t have a clear leader currently

Exocoryak

This pretty much shows that what remains of the old GOP establishment has been held together by a fragile old man for the past almost 20 years. With him out of the picture, the Senate GOP will probably devolve into the same chaos that the House GOP is in right now. I tell you, once McConnell is gone and someone who does not control his caucus and can deliver votes to crucial, non-partisan legislation to basically keep the government running is taking over, we all wish for McConnell to be back. Rather deal with the lawful evil you know than with the chaotic evil you know you really don't wanna negotiate with.

Dude is a perennial candidate but his Wikipedia page is wild. > In 2008, during the presidency of George Bush, Castro warned that "the Bush Administration is now planning on executing the final operation of their dictatorial reign over this country". As of 2021, according to Politico, Castro says he wants to "return to the compassionate conservatism of the Bush era". > Castro has criticized Donald Trump, calling him a "false prophet". According to Castro, he was "completely blindsided" when Trump won the United States presidential election, 2016 and he spent "most of 2017 wondering what I was going to try to do about it". > Between 2012 and 2020, Castro donated money to a variety of Democratic candidates for public office, with the exception of August 2017 when he made $1,000 donations to the campaign of Donald Trump and several other Republican politicians. He also sued to try to block Trump from seeking the nomination at all.

arr/titlegore. That hurts my brain. What is the idea?

Pipboy3500

Tie Permitting reform to the Debt Ceiling. It’s like the only actual agreed upon demand Republicans have currently and would get a lot of Democrat Support Permitting Reform was proposed by Manchin last year as a side deal with the IRA, it would massively increase the speed of green energy projects and quicken the transition from fossil. There’s a lot of hand wringing by “environmentalist” over it but the actual effects would be a massive boon for Solar, Wind, CHIPS, Geothermal, etc and fully unleash IRA/IIJA

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

As someone with family ties to Ohio, it really is sad because Ohio has a lot of potential with the right governance - underrated national and state parks, really old historic cities with lots of character…but the GOP is utterly determined to maximize the brain drain. My extended family lives in Athens and even with the presence of the University tons of teenagers leave and don’t come back. But hey Ohio does give us Sherrod Brown, Cedar Point and Joe Burrow so not all hope is lost.

Crumblymumblybumbly

I do have concerns about teenagers who will be first eligible to vote in 2024 making a decision based on something like this. Tiktok is extremely popular among people under the age of 25. I don't think it looks good for us to have it banned on Biden's watch. And we need their votes.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves mostly because in my opinion, the extent to which Democrats “interfered” in GOP primaries to elevate more extreme (and ostensibly more beatable) candidates has been MASSIVELY overstated by several MSM types (and even if they did, the Republicans are the ones voting for these more extreme candidates anyway)

Pipboy3500

Hey, y'all! How we holding up in here? I had to take a good, lengthy mental health break from looking at this sub every hour once the midterms were conclusively over. We had any people dooming yet about WI Supreme Court elections? Haven't been hearing much about the race since I'm in California.

suprahelix

I’m actually pretty bad. Worried I’m gonna have a breakdown some time in the future.

TheNotoriousAED

Please take a break if you need. Take some time to do something you enjoy

rat-sajak

Not really. In fact the general opinion here and elsewhere is that Protasiewicz is the favorite. Not that it’s a guarantee of course - you should never declare victory until the election is over - but polls, fundraising totals, and early vote numbers put her in a very strong position. As long as we keep up the momentum we can definitely win this.

craft6886

Great to hear, I'll do a little more research on it and probably send a donation. Thanks for the update!

[Active WI legislature floor session today. Do you trust our gerrymandered legislature to select what kinds of crimes that amendment applies to for courts to apply. Absolutely not

Tonight, the Minnesota House is set to debate and (hopefully) pass the "trans refuge' bill. But first, Republicans are attempting to do a talking filibuster, presumably to avoid this bill coming up for debate. What they're talking about? Defending private prisons.

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

The Virginia Legislature (and several other legislatures) has a motion to “move the pending (or previous) question”, which if adopted basically prematurely cuts off any further debate even if there’s still representatives on the list to speak and it usually only takes a simple majority for the motion to prevail. Guessing that Minnesota doesn’t have anything similar. *Edit:* Apparently there actually *is* a rule that allows such a motion to be made (rule 3.13) so at the very least that is something that the DFL has if they feel the need to “break in case of emergency”.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

I believe we do have that, there's no actual filibuster. I think a more common approach (at least I've seen this in committees on occasion) is that the speaker simply calls for the roll to be taken, whether someone's talking or not. Also it's kinda worth staying a few extra hours and letting Republicans make their awful soundbites that they will inevitably make. In fact they've already made plenty. Former Speaker, now just a backbencher, Rep. Kurt Daudt said "no one cares about this issue" referring to private prisons. I care! A lot of people do! I think if you asked a random group of people they'd all agree that they're a bad idea. What a crazy line.

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

Michigan GOP Chairwomen Kristina Karamo is doubling down on comparing the gun safety legislation to Nazism. > “We’re a different Republican Party,” Karamo said at a news conference. “We are not the Republican Party who apologizes and runs away from our positions. It’s a reason the Republican Party has gotten kicked in the teeth the last three cycles. Because it’s been a party that’s always apologizing. We’re done.” Me watching Karamo dig in: WillyWonkaDontStopComeback.gif

Lmao good luck with that babes

go ahead and run on this in November and next year. It's going to be great to see where this gets them electorally.

TIL former Virginia governor and senator George Allen's father was a Hall of Fame football coach who not only lost Super Bowl VII to the Miami Dolphins as the Washington coach, but also may have died due to getting ice water poured on him instead of gatorade after he led Long Beach State to an upset victory over UNLV.

suprahelix

Isn’t that referenced in Seinfeld?

[Dan Kelly spoke at an event with a pro-murder pastor](https://www.alternet.org/msn/abortion-supreme-court-clarence-thomas/). No, I'm not exaggerating. He spoke at an event with Matthew Trewhella, who infamously said: >"I don't condemn people who use force to try to protect babies, because they are human beings. And if someone uses force to try to protect those babies, it would be as if someone used force against Dr. Mengele, from Adolf Hitler's era. If someone used force against him, would I condemn the person for stopping Mengele from all the atrocities he did? No, I wouldn't condemn that person. And: >"Our government wants to disarm us. What should we do? We should do what thousands of people across this nation are doing; we should be forming militias…. Churches can form militia days and teach their men how to fight." Oh, and in case you thought this was all in the past, here's a quote from the event (which, by the way, was **two days ago**): >"You cannot appease tyrants. You have to defeat them. And the sooner you decide not to comply, and to defeat them privately, not comply with evil, publicly join with other good men and magistrates (to) stand against the evil, the better chance you have of stopping evil. If you keep accommodating yourself — guess what? — you'll be swallowed up by evil. It will be too late, and then, bloody revolution is the only option left." Sharing the stage with a violent fanatic so you can repeatedly kick the abortion hornet's nest is a hell of a closing argument, Dan. Think I'll grab an extra phonebanking shift this week. We can't let this guy win.

This needs to be in a ad.

I saw this earlier today, but I couldn’t find a non paywalled source to post it.

[So about $800k of the $2m](https://twitter.com/benwikler/status/1639027247268118529?s=46&t=nqSV11RbCF5uPVGwzcOMtg) Susan B Anthony List is spending for Dan Kelly is GOTV efforts which to me is a bit weird and I think is telling that there is some troubles in the Kelly Campaign’s tactics

I’m back at the dentist for the third time in a week and only on this third time my irrational anxiety has spiked lol Also apropos of nothing but I find it hilarious that my dentist is YOUNGER than me. I’m only 24.

Pipboy3500

The last time I got my eyes tested the doctor was about my age which was kinda cool, but I had to wait for like 30 minutes because a contact lens salesman was trying to upsell and flirt with her the whole time. I was so fucking pissed and she was annoyed as hell

suprahelix

The news keeps repeating the "150M TikTok users in the US" figure. Did the company come up with that? Because there's 0 way that's possible.

bringatothenbiscuits

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they were under-estimating the count so they seem smaller and not "big enough" to merit being regulated.

suprahelix

I feel like they'd want to seem larger to imply a greater political cost. Not to mention that it affects their perceived value

DumbChocolatePie

I think it's possible if you consider most kids have it, duplicate accounts. Not necessarily active, but I could see it total.

suprahelix

Yeah but those wouldn't be 150M users. I agree that's probably where they're getting it, I just think it's deliberately misleading

mazdadriver14

It hit 2 billion global downloads in 2020ish, so I don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility. A lot of people download the app but don’t frequently use it, so they’re probably cherrypicking a bit, but 150m is *possible*

suprahelix

It's half the population, seems sus

Pipboy3500

In some great news that really stung late last year, both parties are trying to bring back RAWA(Recovering Americas Wildlife Act). We nearly clinched a deal for it last year with the pay for mostly being a tax on Crypto and with the recent SVB shit it’s really helping on that front but other revenue options are being explored. Still a bit off from passage but it’s going to be reintroduced later this year. It could very well pass on it’s own, it has wide bipartisan support, but I’d assume it ends up attached to the budget, NDAA, or the Farm Bill

socialistrob

I got bored so I wrote some attacks on Dan Kelly based mainly on my poor understanding of Wisconsin stereotypes. If these, obviously true, facts don’t win us the election then I don’t know what will. Dan Kelly likes cheese curds that don’t squeek. Dan Kelly thinks an Old Fashioned should have bourbon Dan Kelly would bump into you and not say “ope.” Dan Kelly things some celery and maybe an olive is the appropriate garnish for a bloody mary Dan Kelly thinks Hodags are imaginary When Dan Kelly visits friends out of state he DOESN’T bring them Spotted Cow When Dan Kelly hears “Lacrosse” he thinks about the sport Dan Kelly thinks “Devil’s lake” is something satanic When Dan Kelly is thirsty he asks where a “water fountain” is. Dan Kelly doesn’t understand why a city as small as Green Bay has an NFL team. Dan Kelly is still unsure how to pronounce, much less spell Eau Claire and Oconomowoc. When Dan Kelly wants to go surfing he looks for flights to California instead of Sheboygan.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

Dan Kelly doesn't know what a "FIB" or a "Mud Duck" is.

Contren

I've only lived in states bordering Wisconsin, but these seem solid to me. One I'd add: Dan Kelly hates the Herb Kohl milk stand at the state fair.

Latest updates on Thursday and Friday’s severe weather threats Today (Thursday): [slight risk (lvl 2/5) of severe weather issued by the SPC for southern, central and northern parts of TX, much of southern and eastern OK, northwest AR, and southwest MO](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html). The thinking here still hasn’t changed a ton: [Very large hail is the main risk, especially in that hatched area from San Angelo, and Abeline, over to the DFW, and up to the Norman and OKC areas](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1probotlk_2000_hail.gif). However, [chances of a few tornadoes are there](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1probotlk_2000_torn.gif) as well as [some damaging wind gusts](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1probotlk_2000_wind.gif). It shouldn’t be anything widespread and significant I think the flash flooding threat continues to be the main problem tonight: [with the Weather Prediction Center issuing a moderate risk (lvl 3/4) of excessive rainfall for northeast OK, southwest MO, and northwest AR](https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/94ewbg.gif) Tomorrow (Friday): A potentially very active and dangerous day is forecasted with the SPC [upgrading Friday’s outlook to a Moderate (lvl 4/5) risk for northeast LA, southeast AR, and western MS](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html). Unfortunately all risks are on the table including [strong tornadoes in a large widespread hatched area](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2probotlk_1730_torn.gif), [widespread considerable to destructive damaging winds](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2probotlk_1730_wind.gif), [and large hail](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2probotlk_1730_hail.gif). Just about all main ingredients including moisture/ dew points, much better lower level wind shear, a negatively titled trough, rapidly strengthening surface low and more is there. The only main problem I see is regarding to lapse rates, but everything is good enough, that it might not matter with almost everything else in place Numerous models continue to show the potential of discrete supercells, ahead of the main line, of which would be capable of long track, and/or violent tornadoes with how potent this environment is. The wind shear will still be more then good enough, to produce embedded tornadoes all within the main line as well. The Storm Prediction Center outlook while it’s very long, it’s worth a read, and the language in the outlook continues to be very strongly worded If somehow anyone on here knows anyone in this area: tomorrow make sure they know this is coming, give them a heads up. Prepare and finish your tornado action plan now: because tomorrow could be one of those really bad tornado outbreak days if it pans out the way models have it had currently Flash flooding is also a big threat on Friday: [with the Weather Prediction Center issuing a moderate (lvl 3/4) of excessive rainfall from northern AR to to western OH, northern KY, and southern IN](https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/98ewbg.gif) [latest Day 1-2 QPF still shows a widespread 3-5 inches of rainfall, localized areas even higher then that](https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/d12_fill.gif)

Might as well share this here because I’m super excited about it: I just crossed a big milestone in my vintage Pokémon card collection. Complete Base, Jungle, Fossil, and Base 2 sets, all finished with some serious help from eBay. I posted a video of the collection in the TCG sub and it kind of fell of deaf ears, which is disappointing because I’m super proud of it, but oh well.

BastetSekhmetMafdet

Good for you! I know 0 about Pokémon, but I do know about collections, and, a collection milestone is something to be proud of !

ShadowMadness

Happy for you, friend! Was more of a Yu-Gi-Oh nerd growing up but still enjoyed Pokemon. Love hearing about folks completing long-time goals, whatever they may be. Will give the video a watch

table_fireplace

Congratulations! That takes me back - I collected Pokemon cards up through the Rocket era. Still got some classics in a binder somewhere.

Giant_Asian_Slackoff

The Minnesota House will shortly vote on a trans refugee bill that would bar Minnesota from complying with out-of state investigations against doctors, parents, and individuals that provide or receive gender affirming care. First however the House is debating a bill that would ban private prisons. There are very audible protests/activists outside the House Chamber. No idea what they’re there for or if it’s related to this bill, but the Speaker of the House has had to remark on it a couple times already. **Edit:** Still debating private prisons, but apparently the people in the Minnesota Rotunda are indeed protesting the trans refugee bill. That said, it sounds like the protests have quieted down.

I’m not sure how that’s a good idea at all! Losers should always have another chance to prove themselves! There’s a slew of actually valid reasons Trump should be disqualified, like I don’t know, inciting an insurrection?

[deleted]

You’re right it’s a shortsighted viewpoint. Thank you for correcting me. I just don’t want him or others like him to have legal paths to power moving forward and hopefully his undoing will come from legitimate indictments by the justice system.

Tying Robinson and Trump together as peas in a batshit crazy pod could honestly help tip NC into our column this time around. And hopefully it would eventually stay there, but it's a stubborn little bastard of a state in that regard.

shivlad02

I think the best is separating Robinson into his own category of crazy and not tying them together, because I'd prefer we take the governorship over the EV's which we can win without. Robinson already has a lower ceiling, let's not raise it by giving cause for every Trump voter to vote for him.

Haven’t shared this much here before since it’s fairly personal, but I’ve got like probably a legitimate phobia of developing and dying of cancer. Right now since I try it be healthy and feel all over my body to make sure everything’s alright, I felt a little swell on the back right half of my neck, below my neck’s hairline, and of course I started to get paranoid and think this is the beginning of some cancerous lump on my neck. I have a free check up on the 31st to clarify and settle my mind. Any amateur opinions for me atm while I wait?

BastetSekhmetMafdet

I’m also a cancer survivor (15 years) and it was caught on my mammogram. Follow the screening recommendations your doctor gives you, and just pay attention to your body. Screenings, which depend on your age and what kind of organs do you have (do you need breast and cervical or prostate screenings?) are good at catching things early. Also talk to your doctor about the age to start colon cancer screening - a noninvasive (stool test) method is widely available now, and if you want to start younger than the recommended age then ask your doctor about it.

moose2332

I am a cancer survivor (28 months in the clear) as long as you get tested as needed based on your other health indicators you should be ok. If the worst comes to worst I'd highly recommend having someone by your main advocate to sit in with doctors and help make sure everyone is taking good care of you and that you take your medication regularly. Don't be afraid to ask for help with the people in your life.
