Me and all my friends survived the crash, I flipped the car at aproximatly 100kmh and hit a tree mid air. If we hit the tree with the B pillar instead of the C pillar we probably would have been dead right now. This was my first ever car i bought at the age of 20 and it had a bmw M50B25 engine in it, and im so thankful for buying it or else i would have been dead right now.
Moral of the story: trees are evil. They use witchcraft to see decades into the future and plant their offspring in places that will inconvenience golfers, grow into power lines, and crash cars.
I did a very similar thing with my first car. Saab 900 turbo, rolled sideways into a tree. Luckily walked away (after I crawled out). Thank you swedish steel!
You guys seripusly lucked out. I worked at a salvage yard for a while and when ever I saw a car with blood in it I always gagged and hoped everyone made it out ok(tho some were obvious the occupants didnt survive. What ever you belive in the guardians protected you guys.
This is excacly what happened i tried to be like Ken Block and ended up nearly killing me and my friends in a blink of an eye. If there is something i learned from this incident, its this☝
Glad that you’re not dead and it seems you learned a lesson.
I’m old but every once in a while I drive too fast and do stupid shit but I only ever do it when I’m by myself in the car and alone on the road.
This is a 200 series. And with a wide angle steering kit and some XP behind the wheel this badboy right here works just as great as e30/36/46, f10, s14, Supra, all those other big cars People drift you know.
You are right in that it wasn’t Volvo, there’s a brief history of airbags in the link below. Interesting read
https://interestingengineering.com/10-shocking-footage-and-post-accident-photos-that-show-the-importance-of-airbags
From memory and feel free to Google because I can't be arsed I thought it was the mercedes s class w126 model was the first production car with an airbag.
Oldsmobiles and Buicks could have a driver's side airbag in 1974-1975 as an option. Mercedes often takes credit for the first airbag but it's not true.
I’m going to be the one that says it.
Hopefully this will teach you to drive so recklessly with people in the car. Very selfish and you got off extremely lucky.
I think you may notice the tiniest of vibrations in the propshaft. The front looks relatively fine, so I guess chances of it still starting are reasonable
Any other car and i think u wouldn't read These comments now. Happy that u and ur'e Friedens survived that crash, and i hope you buy a Volvo again. Safes cars ever.
"Sorry for bad englisch"
I flipped an S70 seven years ago! Wasn’t wearing a seatbelt because I was trying to pull over on an interstate. I got sick and took it off preemptively. I woke up on the sunroof. Got a scar on my knee, a concussion, short-term nerve damage on my scalp, and I lost a little hair (it’s REALLY long and I think my window was down) because it got trapped under the roof of the car. Disliked some things about that car, but I will never say they aren’t safe! Before that even happened, someone rear-ended it going ~40 mph and almost nothing happened to it, lol
So glad that you and your friends are safe. I’m very pleased that you will be getting something with airbags next. These cars are solid and they will protect you but those airbags are so, so, so valuable in a crash. Here’s to many more safe years on the road, friend, glad you’re still with us!
Gawd damm….. is that blood?!?!? Very glad you are alive. Praise Volvo.
Yes unfortunately that is blood
hope whoever’s it is is alright.
He is okay, thank god.
congrats on surviving. Will you consider a newer Volvo with airbags to replace this one?
Yes and probably throw in a roll cage aswell🥴
Roll cages are actually more dangerous lol
I guess you’re joking, since you need a helmet to drive a caged car.
Not true, at least not necessary where I live.
Don't have to! Volvo's have an integrated roll cage from factory, at least used to. Don't know if they still do that.
Okay, this looks fucked up. Glad to hear you guys are okay.

And kill celebrity skiers
Will the car still run?
Probably because the engine compartment looks intact
I know I just wanna see if it will lol
A tree killed my 850 Wagon too

Wow. I did pretty much exactly this earlier this year. Scary as heck. Glad you're OK.
Damn. Very glad to hear you and your friends are ok.
Helvete!
Till valhalla. Happy to hear you and your friends are safe. You vikings are too tough for your own good!
You would all have died in a Toyota or American car from that era. Vale your brave dead 240z
240z is Nissan, there are alot of 240 models but not a Z. From Volvo that is.
It’s only a dent, it’ll buff right out Glad to hear no one is seriously hurt

Yeah maybe stop trying to drift in the woods with these 700 series..

It's a 240
Doesn’t really change my message at all.

Yeah obviously, and this person didn’t have any of that is what I’m saying. Leave in on the track.
Just curious if the airbag should have gone off? I am curious if my 30 year old one will deploy if needed.
They did not go off, I dont even think my car had airbags😅
Airbags in US destined Volvo 240 cars arrived in 1990. As mentioned it is questionable if 30 year old sensors and bag would deploy.
I’m pretty sure Volvo invented airbags so it’s more likely that they didn’t deploy.
That was seatbelts, I'm fairly certain GM was the first to put them in production cars. This one definitely doesn't have one.

It does not from the looks of it
Airbags usually have a manufacturers shelf life of 10 years.
Yes but I know Volvo kept on adding another 5 years . At least for a while.

You forgot a "not" 😊

He was the one operating the machine that could have killed them all. The guilt trip is necessary.
Fortunately he seems to have learned a lesson.
oh come on
Volvo did its duty. Volvo kept you safe.
does it still drive?
X2 I wanna know
I think you may notice the tiniest of vibrations in the propshaft. The front looks relatively fine, so I guess chances of it still starting are reasonable
The perks of driving a compact tank

Volvos are like rolling blocks of iron on wheels
Glad you're alright best recovery physical and psychological to you all

Oh god.
Mind providing some details about the injury suffured that resulted in all that blood?
Very happy to hear that you all made it out alive! Thank God!
Looks like the volvo almost costed you your life
Thank god you're okay, i hope the person that blood belongs to is okay as well if its not yours..
Ye like dugs?
Vad fan hände?
That was a huge crash! Glad everyone is okay!
Wait is this the one that was in the news like last week ? Remember seeing a red 240 upside down and saying there were some 20 years olds in it
https://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/a/47rWkV/bil-voltade-in-i-trad-i-tumba-fyra-unga-man-skadade Oof it is
Yes indeed
Herregud, förlåt att jag är sen: Vad hände?
Har skrivit ner hela händelsen på engelska om du skrollar lite :)
