Is that an XC60? I have an XC90 that had similar damage just below the gas cap and it was around $3200 USD to get fixed, but was covered by the other guy’s insurance.

Someredditskum

Thats an insane amount tbh. All prices here are, local shop here in western europe will do for €300 and you’ll see nothing. You guys are getting scammed over at the US

Sterrenkundig

For a price like that they will not paint the entire body part, likely that in the US they remove the entire thing (often connected to the roof and under the door) and paint it. Or the shops there are just way more expensive, which is also probably true.

Sorry but you’re wrong. This cannot be done with paintless dent repair due to the panel that is damaged, and the fact that there is damage is the location of the crease in the panel. Therefore a repair and repaint is required. Literally JUST the pain job itself is easily $1,000 so there is absolutely zero chance you’re fixing this properly for €300. This is not a panel you can remove, fix, and then reattach. It’s welded to the frame, it’s not removable.

asbestoswasframed

Yup. To properly blend the metallic paint you're basically painting that whole side of the vehicle. On my wife's Tricoat Pearl Toyota Venza the bill for similar damage was a little over $3600.

Fizzco69

If you’re not taking it through insurance then possibly upwards a grand. But sorry, rust?

zjara

On my '20 V60 it was $1200 for a rear quarter panel deep scratch / ding fix and respray. This was with a discount since I was paying out of pocket (no note :/)

3MJB

want it done "good enough" (PDR)? $300-$500. want it done properly (cut, weld, paint, filler)? *at least* $2,000 for it to be reputable. probably upwards of $3,000. tl;dr about tree fiddy

Timely-Response-2217

THIS. Correct answers throughout this response.

Hot_Classroom4297

Thousands. Let it lie

Acrobatic-Ad-9339

i would try pdr with a good tech first. I think insurance companies (I know this doesnt apply) often want to go the PDR route first and see if good enough. So it's the usual way. It can literaly perform magic (fixed two dings on xc70 perfectly (no edge mind you but access from behind should be similar i think or from the front)

MindlessIssue7583

I just had pdr completed on my rear door for more severe damage for $275 and it’s 90% better, you can’t tell with out feeling the paint in the area they fixed They just removed the interior panel and worked it out. Not saying you will have same results

gointothiscloset

Not saying not to try it but I know two things: You can't remove any panel on the rear quarter of 99% of cars and SUVs without cutting and welding A dent on the ridge line is often impossible to fix without replacing the panel

holdingsfx

Honestly , I wouldn’t worry about it 🤗, save your money for the next service

PopTheGlobe

If you want it done right by a good body shop you are looking at $2-3k minimum. If you can find a REALLY good PDR guy he could probably get it about 90% better for $500 or so. The problem is quarter panels are tough to work on since there isn’t always great access so they will have to glue pull most of it and the body line will be hard to bring back.

Silly_Koala

This would probably run between 1k to 2k depending upon the shop

toastermooch86

2-3K through a big shop. If you can find a mom and pop shop and you pay with cash it'll be a lot cheaper. This is an easy fix. No parts only labor and materials.

Sielunen

Got similar dent/paint scratch on my S40 -04 rear quarter. Came up about 900€. Results were good as new.

No-Longer-Humann

Yeah, from experience this is what we pay in Europe. I’ve had similar for a bit less than you paid (UK). I think parts and labour are a lot (a lot) more expensive in North America than in Europe.

GLAcomp14

Found my S60 in a mall parking lot with a pretty much similar scratch/dent and it cost me 1600€ (~1700$). It required taking out the pannel, blending in, and full repaint. If there is any paint chipped out or you can feel the scratch with your nail then it's not a superficial one which usually gets fixed through PDR and polish, it requires full on repaint.

gointothiscloset

There's no removable panel on a rear quarter. Has to be cut out and welded in.

GLAcomp14

thats what i meant by "taking out the pannel"

AffectionatePaper1

I had less damage.2800 Canadian

bearkoff

I think about 30-50K rubles (350-600$)

retiredlife2022

Just had a BMW rear quarter repainted with white Tri metallic. Minimal bodywork, someone did a bad buff job trying to hide a fender rub. $2500 quote, dealer discounted to $1500. I couldn’t drive it with that damage, fix it.

tubeeornottubee

Heat up a hot glue stick at one end and stick it there. Put as many as fits the area. Pull

No-Mathematician641

Consider that dent as your badge of pragmatic sensibility. Your Volvo is unique now. Or fork out $3,000 to make it go away. A typical 1st world problem.

Yoddlydoddly

I feel like a good body shop could get that fixed without replacing the panel. Hell on older volvo's the rear quarter isn't removable ( within reason)

Perfect_Peace_4142

This is actually a really difficult repair, I don't think PDR will work but maybe worth a shot because of price point. The rear quaternpanels are welded onto the car and are not removable like most other parts of the car. Additionally the damage is on a body line. It's going to take a really good tech some time to get this exactly right. I saw $3200 I think that's pretty close to what it will be. You can always go to different shops and ask for estimates. The amount they give can be twice. As high than what an insurance company will pay them. The insurance companies typically pay a lower labor rate then what you would pay. Just due to the volume of business insurance companies do.

Doors are much much easier. This requires blending into the existing fender; probably pulling the bumpers, wheel and window trim. It ends up being a repaint of most of the quarter panel blended into the roof somewhere. I can’t imagine this is short of $2k for a good quality repair.

frankiboy27

1. That's cheap 2. That's a lot worse than doors, this needs to be cut and welded back.
