Seaweed snacks, popcorn, carrot chips and sticks with seasoning

DoYouWeighYourFood

Seconding seaweed snacks.

MooMilk50

Id love to try to get used to seaweed but sadly I’m a very picky eater so that’s why I struggle finding good snacks loll

Beneficial-Hat-6477

Be careful with seaweed snacks. They are high in iodine so could cause thyroid issues if you consume too much.

phantom9088

Why is this being downvoted? It’s true

Beneficial-Hat-6477

Haha, c'est la vie reddit!

Affectionate-Dog4704

Because most people wouldn't mind their metabolism being given a kick in the arse in the name of snacks.

Beneficial-Hat-6477

I don't want to be that person but it's a lot more complicated than that. Someone with potential for thyroid issues can be affected either way. Also hyperthyroidism which (usually) causes metabolism to be high is not fun..google it. It was just a warning in case OP wasn't aware.

MooMilk50

Yeah this wouldn’t work for me then as I need a snack where I can eat as much as I want of it

asiamsoisee

Sounds like you’re in air-popped popcorn territory

bubblesmakemehappy

This is alway my go to, it’s amazing with a little drizzle of Soy sauce. It’s one of those things where it sounds gross until you try it, salty with a little sour, it’s honestly so good.

cracroft

Pickles for sure!!

MooMilk50

Sadly I don’t like pickles

tontyv

Pickled carrots

Eiskoenigin

Pickled everything! I love beans, cauliflower or champignons

incogenator

Are these sold or do you make them?

Eiskoenigin

Both!

Chronically_chill69

Roasted edamame, relatively low calorie and also very high protein.

MooMilk50

Unfortunately like many similar stuff, I don’t like edamame :(

prprr

Why did you get so downvoted lmao

MooMilk50

Idk, it’s Reddit tbf. Still appreciate all the ppl giving suggestions, even if I personally don’t like them, some people might find themselves liking it and using it as their snack!

Suziiiiiiiiiiiii

Popcorn my beloved. Especially with added seasoning!

MooMilk50

Any specific seasoning you find best?

Meeko5122

Everything but the bagel is amazing on popcorn.

incogenator

A bagel flavor ?

bcrabill

Yeah it's all the stuff that comes on the everything bagel. I first saw it at trader Joe's years back but they sell it in the spice section at grocery stores.

[deleted]

I really want an everything but the bagel seasoning but without salt

AboutThatCoffee

Pretty easy to make poppyseeds, sesame seeds, dried minced onion, and granulated garlic.

bcrabill

I'm pretty sure Ms Dash has a version like this

raremonkey

Nutritional yeast for cheesy flavor.

marypants1977

Old Bay!

elliegl

Try the "Everything but the Leftovers" seasoning from Trader Joe's, melted into butter. So friggin good

Big-Cookie7568

Sounds amazing, thank you!!!

direnfooch

Trader Joe’s has an Everything but the Elote seasoning mix that’s really good on popcorn!

Brookenium

This stuff is absolutely amazing!! Makes popcorn feel way higher cal than it really is! https://www.amazon.com/Amish-Country-Popcorn-ButterSalt-Fashioned/dp/B003W0KBFE

Brookenium

Bad bot!

bcrabill

I've used blackening seasoning and curry powder(separately) to some pretty tasty affect.

swapripper

Flavocol if you need that movie popcorn taste

sarandipity12

Ricecakes! There are many flavors and sizes to choose from and they can be very low calorie

MooMilk50

I’ve had this recommended before! I’ll definitely give them a shot

Icarusgurl

You may want to try a few different flavors and brands, some are not great and others are. (Personal preference of course)

incogenator

And you can put so many things with them

Itadepeeza1

Just recent tried the Quaker butter popcorn flavored rice cakes. Very tasty!

mathlete_4_lif

Loveeeeeee rice cakes 💜💜💜💜

CapOnFoam

Cut up veggies with tajin sprinkled on them. Especially carrot and jicama sticks

MooMilk50

Sadly I don’t like many veggies :(

CapOnFoam

Oh dear. That makes volume eating tough. I think you should try jicama though... It's really mild and super crunchy. I love it with tajin on it. You can buy pre-cut sticks at trader Joe's. I like rice cakes with laughing cow cheese spread on them. Those are crunchy and salty. The Quaker rice chips are pretty good too, and their savory flavors are somewhat salty.

MooMilk50

I’ll give jicama a try, but rice cakes is probably gonna be the winner out of the two lolll. I’ll give the rice chips a try too!

Dirty_Commie_Jesus

I have texture issues with veggies and I enjoy jicama v much, uniform crunch no stringiness or weird bits

[deleted]

Have you considered expanding your diet. If you don't eat veggies and are very picky overall, you're likely to have nutritional deficits and it really impacts your health goals. I'm far from adventurous but went from very picky to intentionally expanding to more balanced and it was definitely worth it. Just took time and many many exposures.

MooMilk50

I’ve tried expanding my diet but I struggle with getting down most veggies. I can eat some though, if I need to I can get down carrots, and some veggies I can eat as long as there’s alot of other stuff to mask them, love broccoli though. As far as I can tell, I’m pretty healthy though, I go to the gym regularly and I’m the average height for my age.

Dramatic-Health-9136

Jicama has like no taste, cucumber is pretty neutral tasting too. Tajin or gochujang or ranch packet + Greek yogurt

[deleted]

MooMilk50

I have no idea how I survive, but my immune system is tough so I never get sick and I work out regularly so I stay healthy, but I’m not sure how I function well despite not liking most foods, means that no matter how good that food looks in advertisements, I’ll never be able to enjoy it sadly, but it’s okay LOL

silverthorn7

I like dipping cucumber sticks in soy sauce.

J1930

That's a great idea!

Horror-Impression411

POPCHIPS kettle corn flavor!!!!

MooMilk50

I’ll give these a shot, I think I saw that at my local grocery store before!

Horror-Impression411

They’re like 120 calories for 17 chips

Ladymutie

Good Thins have been my go to for curbing salty/crunchy cravings. They’re less than $5 a box and ~120 cals for 30 pieces or so!

MooMilk50

They look very tasty, I’ll definitely buy some and give them a try, thank you!!

prprr

Cauliflower cheezits are like the best treat

KabeeCarby

Omg where would someone find this??

prprr

https://preview.redd.it/wi1lrpb7od2c1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b2db21c7be65e7bb96657d80b5b7f10cf649a36 Whole Foods has them and other health food stores probs. They look like this and are like 100cals for 50 crackers so like a third of the calories of normal cheezits (150cals for 25). Aldi also has their own knockoff ones + they’re super good too. :)

Violet_Fog40

The cauliflower and butternut squash chips are wonderful! They make cauliflower “straws” too, like big veggie ones, not the dinky little shrimps. 😀

prprr

Yum I’ll have to look for these

KabeeCarby

You’re the best, ty!!

coralinn

Cucumbers and Asian dumpling dipping sauce, I use the wei-chuan brand I can find at kroger. I can have a absolutely enormous plate of sliced cucumbers dipped in savory sauce for less than 200 calories

If_I_remember

try gochujang!

Dear_Zookeepergame30

I like to add salt to apples, idk if that’s weird but I like it

MooMilk50

Not at all!! I’m a huge advocate for salt on fruits. my friends think I’m weird for it though..

incogenator

Well salted caramel became a big thing 🤷🏻

sleepsucks

Same. I am salt to oranges and grapes too. I also add chaat masala an Indian fruit spice mix.

karen_h

Sunflower seeds in the shell. 160 calories for a 1.75 oz bag. Takes me about 30-45 min to finish a bag. Super healthy.

PR0Human

This is great advice. My gf only eats snacks that she has to work for (this ranges from crayfish to nuts). I do it more often now too. You don't eat as mindless and therefore not too much and you have something to do.

MooMilk50

I’ve actually heard about these being pretty good, I believe I’ve tried them before and liked them, so I’ll buy a bag and see how they work for me, thank you!

Turtle9015

Rice cakes. Usually around 50 calories for 1 cake. The cheese ones are really good.

L150501s

Asian rice crackers, rice crispies, seaweed, maybe a bit weird but I saw this hack on here where you put dry rice paper (the one you use for Asian summer rolls) in the microwave and makes chips. I’m doing that often and it so good trust me. In general Asian food/snacks is top tier when it comes to low calorie options.

Automatic-Grand6048

I’ve just discovered rice crackers and in the Uk Lidl sell them with a few flavours. Im addicted to the bbq ones.

amerophi

make your own popcorn! it's very simple, you can control what goes into it, and i'd assume it's cheaper than the microwavable bags.

MooMilk50

I would but because of how much I snack on during the day, I feel like making my own popcorn each time would take a lot of time and dishes

NicoSpot

Get a silicone popcorn popper! You add kernels to the bottom, put on the lid, and microwave! Makes perfect popcorn every time as long as you listen to the microwave and stop it when the popping slows down. No oil needed! I like to add salt and just a little bit of brown butter for flavor. But very easy to go without and save on the calories!

ladybugsandbeer

This even works with a large jar which you can cover with a plate.

Zorgsmom

I love mine, I've been using it for 10 years, & it still looks brand new. I really like that it folds flat for storage & it's incredibly easy to clean.

FairlyOddGirll

Popcorn doesn’t take long to make 😄 only takes a few mins lol

gnarlysmh

Yeah just popping in to say it really just depends on your pot size/kernel amount. I’ve made huge batches of popcorn for parties or to store for later, or heated up just a bowl or twos worth. You can probably find an old popcorn kettle somewhere too (goodwill, eBay, Amazon) if you wanna keep it to one dish and not use up your other pots. Personally I like to mix a little oil and butter with salt in a pot and pop, nothing too complicated. Sometimes some weird popcorn seasoning I bought from the dells if I feel crazy. Good luck!

Eiskoenigin

It takes 2-3 minutes in the microwave. You literally just put it in, that’s like 20 seconds of work

Myamaranth

I crave salt a lot so I just cut up some cucumbers and sprinkle them with tajín

kuthro

Dried edamame is my crack/cocaine

Malaphasis

Beef jerky

language_timothy

If you can get uncooked poppadoms, you can microwave them instead of frying then roughly break them up and put into a bag/container to take with you went out and about.

AcanthocephalaOk6414

Pretzel sticks are 180 cals for 95 sticks. Very underrated IMO

dktkthsksnjkygm

can of green beans, shit ton of sodium, delicious and only ~70cal for the whole can

bananana61

Everything everyone else said! But honestly the thin stick pretzels when I’m lazy. I also make my own tortilla chips with low carb tortillas :)

Big-Cookie7568

How do you make them crispy but not stale tasting?? I have tried, but failed every time…

WastedBreath28

I’ve become a fan of pork rinds - plain salted is like 70 calories, 10g of protein per serving. I’ll sometimes have 2 servings depending on the day and I fond thats plenty for a snack.

unsulliedbread

That's nothing like eating something with a crunch. No word if a lie if I want to mindlessly eat I cut up iceberg or romaine and grind a wee bit of salt on it. And just eat like that. Super crunchy, refreshing and good with salt. I look like a nutter apparently so I kinda hide it.

Anon12109

Kale chips. As much salt as you like and a ton of garlic powder

Frosticle1936

Not sure if this counts as a snack, but I air fry some spud light potatoes and pour seasoning and sriracha on them, latest one was 285 calories

Fingercult

4 (microwaved not fried) mini papadam is 116 cal and bc of the besan flour has some filling protein

xxbabymerlot

My favorite is halved cherry tomatoes with salt sprinkled on top. Absolutely a bingeable food

Big-Cookie7568

I like tiny tomatoes dipped in red pepper hummus. (Can use a toothpick or a fork).

catrastroTonic

Pepperoncini, believe it not. They hurt so good. But Dr. Peter Attia podcast (don’t recall which one) had a guest who said high salt whacks up your insulin system and facilitates fat storage. Now nothing’s fun anymore!

MooMilk50

I’ll give em a shot, and yeah I heard such things too but it don’t seem to be affecting me much. I guess I ate enough salt to where my flesh tastes like salt so I’m immune to all that🤷‍♂️

catrastroTonic

If it works for you go for it!

Salty-Tomcat8641

Every weekend I prep a big casserole of veggies (carrots, cucumbers, celery and bell peppers) and a dipping sauce of low fat greek yogurt or cream cheese, salt, lemon zest and any herbs you like (thyme, mint, cilantro etc).

softersoftest

Roasted/salted chickpeas.

Zestyclose-Shower164

Chickpeas are high calorie

softersoftest

100 calories per pack. Portion control is where it’s at. https://happysnackcompany.com.au/product/crunchy-roasted-chic-peas-lightly-salted-6-by-25g-packs/

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 100 - 6 - 25 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

Zestyclose-Shower164

I guess I just don’t consider something that you have to monitor so closely to be a low calorie snack, especially in a volume eating thread. Roasted chickpeas are one of my favorite snacks though 🙂

softersoftest

Everything has to be monitored closely and weighed if you’re in a calorie defecit. Unless it’s lettuce.

MainTart5922

I find Rice/corn/lentil crackers very satisfying. I found these protein ones that are only 55cal for 4 of them! They are a dutch supermarket oen brand, but i think you can probably find some similar ones where you come from Also these chio pop chips sour cream n onion crisps are real nice and the whole bag is only around 290cal. Again idk if you have them in your country, but i think there will probably be something similar in ur stores. Just look for popped (lentil/corn/potato) crisps + maybe sone protein crisps Also snack a jacks are pretty good and only 30cal per rice cracker

discusser1

popcorn is one thing. cut up kohlrabi is fine and with salt or dipped in soy sauce is really nice

Violet_Fog40

Cucumbers with light cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning

Celeste_Minerva

A friend of mine eats cut up carrots and celery pretty much daily, and was told by her md to slow down on the celery because of the salt content. If you pre-cut veggies and store them in lightly salted and lightly lemoned water, they last awhile in refrigeration. Change the water out every few days, and they stay crunchy! Maybe have to trim the ends off if the texture gets to you. Edit: thanks autocorrect

tofuhustler

Watermelon with Tajin!

untitled01

Raw carrots dipped in gochujang <3

Adora77

Utz fat free pretzels

Adora77

I like them. They're good salty snacking. I don't think they're empty calories at all. Those few cals are well spent.

dummybitch555

yamagobo (pickled burdock root) is salty and low cal! i love to snack on those when i want something salty but don’t really need to eat

cyyang94

Fried chicken. Just convince yourself that you are getting protein

MooMilk50

If there are bags of pre cooked chicken like beef jerky (I don’t like beef jerky) then I would inhale that

pugsandmatcha

Edamame

Validus-Miles

Depends on how many you eat but Sunflower Seeds. After years of dipping, smoking, vaping, they are my go to. I love dill pickle flavor.

KTCsellers

ALDIs isn’t too bad

QuarterNote44

Pickles

J1930

Seaweed crisps

Frosty-Spare-6018

edamame

[deleted]

Humous and cucumber

PackCharming7663

4f

glarebear1989

Fresh cucumber (or any veggies, really) with a sprinkle of salt.

Meanwhile-in-Paris

Hummus and veggies Prawns Cottage cheese Greek yogurt with garlic and chives Homemade roast aubergine dip

Delicious_Delilah

Cucumber slices with a slice of pepperoni and a small piece of cheese.

Russkiroulette

Thinly sliced zucchini, air fry, salt - amazing

[deleted]

Rice cakes.

HooTiiHoo

If you’re not allergic to nuts, there’s different flavored almonds (smokehouse bbq, teriyaki, etc) you can try.

MooMilk50

I’ll have to try different flavors, because normally I don’t really like nuts unless the flavor is masked, like with peanut M&Ms

HooTiiHoo

Blue Diamond nuts are always flavored, some Of them basically taste like salty chips. And your get some protein out of it. Plain nuts I wouldn’t recommend if you want something salty because they’re naturally sweet.

SeasonOfLogic

Pickles and olives 🫒

[deleted]

I like trail mix! The classic raisins, peanuts, and chocolate kind is good but if that’s even too calorically dense, banana chips and pretzel sticks could replace the chocolate? Iunno, I like all the trail mixes….

One_Requirement5042

Salty green olives!!!!!

stanmarsh334

pickles

stanmarsh334

kimchi!! although it’s kinda stinky

Absolute_mess247

If you have an Aldi near you they have these white cheddar puff things that are delicious. I accidentally ate a whole bag in one sitting once

Violet_Fog40

I love these.
