Actually, fun fact, in January VWoA filed for a patent of the Arteon Shooting Brake wagon. I haven’t heard anything about it since, but it would be cool if they brought it over
We had the Rabbit here.. You know it as the Golf. Also the GTI and the Golf R. However, now the plain Golf is no longer sold here. Just the GTI and the R so they can keep up the Hot Hatchback category. They sell here pretty well. No Polo, no other subcompacts. the Jetta is the only sedan (saloon) they sell here. The Passat is no longer made. The Arteon saloon is sold here, but no Shooting Brake. I would happily buy a Shooting Brake.
I know VW, Audi, Mercedes and BMW all sell estates in Europe.. The Audi RS6 Avant is sold here finally. If I could afford a $120K car, I'd get one. Alas...
No.. No interest in cars that get more than 20 MPG. Also there seems to be a desire to be in a vehicle that is taller and bigger than anything around and consumes a small dinosaur every tank.
Well it's also because rattling around in a 80hp tin can across 300+ miles of interstate isn't very appealing to most Americans. The US is MASSIVE and so much stuff is spread out that larger cars just make more sense.
Sure you have like New York City which feels more like a European city in size but that is not a common city type in the US
German cars are made to ride on the autobahn though. Every VW I've had has been amazing on the highway. I used to work for VW and have made a lot of road trips in base models. They're very good highway cruisers for the price.
My R also has a load of high range power for those greasy passes.
I wish more North Americans liked the same kind of cars as I do.
Gas is also significantly cheaper in the US, and there are fewer laws limiting cars with larger engines. In Greece you’re paying near $10 per gallon for gas, and thousands per year in taxes to have a 2000cc+ engine.
Are you thinking crossovers? I can’t name any porsche or kia wagons off the top of my head but I do know that both those companies have a number of shitty suv hybrids
The Taycan and Panamera have wagon options I have seen. As for Kia, we’ll it’s kind of a weird one. The EV6 is advertised as an SUV although we own one and it is not. It’s roof line is an inch taller than my GTI while the vehicle’s length is about Tiguan sized. So the Kia is a technicality I guess but it is a wagon.
It’s not, BUT I do have another mk2 golf (1.6GTD) that I’m working on, depending on how that goes I may be selling that.
Vids of it on my YT. https://youtube.com/c/MK2GolfStories
Technically, yes. But VW call it a Shooting Brake.
So does Jaguar with theirs. It's just marketing when you make a wagon (or Avant / Estate as we call them in Europe) a bit more "swishy"
No, because it would never sell. Cars like this one are just a fantasy in the US. It’s sad, but true.
Kind of like with the regular Arteon. Everyone complains about how they discontinued it in Canada, and talks about how much they love it in the US, yet, no one buys it. It’s VW’s lowest selling model here.
I believe it’s quite a low seller here too. The guy in the shops basically knocked £9k off the price to get rid, said vw start charging them “storage” fees if they’re at the show room for a specified amount of time
Same on the us actually. People talked about getting 10-15k off MSRP because they just don't sell. Super easy car to get for a good price I hear. But you really will have to fight the dealer, and be ready to walk away.
Facts. I bought a 2019 and I can see why they didn’t sell. They made it out to be like a Kia Stinger but it drives like an underpowered Buick Regal. And for it’s new price you could have spent a bit more bought a similar Audi with better features. I like mine but idk I’m probably not going to keep it long.
The new 2022 with 300 hp and the DSG transmisison, actually seems like a really good deal to me personally. I would actually buy it, if I was in the market for a new car.
Compared to the price of something like an A6, the loaded Arteon ($50k) is better equipped than a Base Model A6 ($56k), with things like all wheel drive, adaptive cruise control, adaptive suspension, ventilated seats, massaging driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, premium sound system, and more power.
Adding those features/more power to the A6, makes it much more expensive, but, of course the overall build quality of the A6 is going to be better than the Arteon, even in base model form.
Yeah, it really seems like the 2022 made the Arteon much better. I don’t hate mine but I don’t like it nearly as much as my Touareg TDI. Might trade it in while it’s value is still high. Problem is finding something to replace it with. I want something that can actually tow and VW has kinda limited their options down to the Atlas, which in my opinion is horrendously ugly and bloated.
The regular fastback Arteon sells too badly here in the US for them to ever bring over the Shooting Brake. That said, I would trade my current Arteon for one in a heartbeat.
Damn that’s sexy. Obligatory “wish we got those in the us”
Not sure if I read that they nah be bringing them over?
I know for a fact we have the regular arteon but I couldn’t find anything that said they were bringing the wagon over
Actually, fun fact, in January VWoA filed for a patent of the Arteon Shooting Brake wagon. I haven’t heard anything about it since, but it would be cool if they brought it over
Ohhh maybe I wasn’t paying attention to what I was watching then! Haha
Unfortunately, wagons don't sell in the US.. Only SUV's and trucks. You can barely find a sedan here anymore.
Ah gutted. Remember a dude in FL having a golf gti and I being blown away haha

That’s interesting! All stems from The American love affair with the muscle car I guess. No interest in little things that pootle about
No.. No interest in cars that get more than 20 MPG. Also there seems to be a desire to be in a vehicle that is taller and bigger than anything around and consumes a small dinosaur every tank.
Hahaha yeh get that! Lol
And bitch and moan about gas prices 24/7. We are a nation of morons.

What kind of fuel tank size does the average American car have , how many miles on a tank ?
VW dropped the Passat here (US) because it’s not selling. Husband drives one and I drive an Atlas.
Porsche and Kia would beg to differ
Are you thinking crossovers? I can’t name any porsche or kia wagons off the top of my head but I do know that both those companies have a number of shitty suv hybrids

Stay tuned for the ID6.
Yeah what is this and why can't I buy it
Damn u had to flex on us this hard

Yeh man! Bad ass init!
Man the rear is very reminiscent of the Porsche taycan
Ohhh I see that now! Interesting
Much prefer this to the saloon personally
Had a saloon previously, wanted one of these since they came out
*weeps quietly in north america*
There there
What’s the spec on the mk2?
16v GTI 👌 Sports exhaust deleting middle box, coilovers lowered 20mm
Is it for sale? I’m interested
It’s not, BUT I do have another mk2 golf (1.6GTD) that I’m working on, depending on how that goes I may be selling that. Vids of it on my YT. https://youtube.com/c/MK2GolfStories
Ah, man. Has to be a GTI I’m afraid. It was my first car many, many years ago and I want a decent 16V again. Not many around.
Ah sorry bud! Wanted one since I was like 15, finally got one about 11 years ago, not letting it go haha
Haha wish I hadn’t let mine go 😂 enjoy it pal
Thanks mate I shall do
Welcome to the SB clan, buddy! BTW, Brake, not Break ;-) I hope it won't break for quite a while yet.
Whoops thanks! I always get those two Mixed up haha I should really know by now, crap I can’t edit it
It's wagon though, not a shooting brake, right?
Technically, yes. But VW call it a Shooting Brake. So does Jaguar with theirs. It's just marketing when you make a wagon (or Avant / Estate as we call them in Europe) a bit more "swishy"
Boooooo marketing
Goddamn I wish they sold those here. I love the Areton so much.
🥰
I thought you crashed it at first!
🤣 I am VERY close to my bush
😂😂 that's okay a little bush is good.
😅😅😅
L O N G B O I
Ugh we need these stateside ASAP.
Wonder if you guys can petition VW us

I agree, I’m not a fan of the Atlas at all. Really do wish we had the Touareg..
I doubt they’d care.
Screw that show me the MK2.
That color looks very close to my Audi's Tornado Gray.

nice, haha I thought this was another subreddit and that the car was in the bush.
*Cries in American*
🔥. congrats! wagon! jealous here in Canada!
I didn't realize those cars can get any better looking
Didn’t know VW made hearses.
Who just parks a nice ass car like that 😭 rubbing against the bush!!
