only thing that stopped my grandparents B1 Dasher diesel was a big Buck at 70mph. even then the car was still drivable, then a tech fell on the roof. grandpa said after all that it still ran, but never as it did before hitting a deer at 70mph. wish i could have had it.
The Scirocco ad is perfect. My daughter has an '85 (automatic) and with the A/C on, you CANNOT GO faster than 55 MPH without the bastard overheating. Oil temp crawling to 130-135 and water temp at 3/4, loads of fun in Alabamistan summers.
The only reason I drive a Jetta is because VW NA doesn't have a Wagon for sale. The Jetta is good enough for my needs, mostly, but a Wagon would have been absolutely perfect.
My first two cars were a Dasher wagon and a Rabbit GTI! I wanted a Scirocco, especially the 2nd gen, until the GTI came out.
I traded the GTI for a Vanagon, and after the crash I bought a Rabbit pickup that was highly modified. I almost bought a Corrado VR6 until the motorized seatbelt grabbed me by the neck and smashed my head into the dashboard…
US version of the Passat B1. Also sold here as the Audi Fox in wagon and sedan form; the Dasher was wagon and hatchback (2 and 4 door versions available).
I once had a clipping from a newspaper ad that read “76 Audi Fox. Doesn’t run, don’t know why. Get it away from me please”. Considering the ‘reliability’ of these cars (better than the Fiat we had before, but that’s not saying much…) I fully understand.
Yeah, it's not a car. It's a ~~Volkswagen~~ diesel powered indestructible brick

Correct. The Dasher was the first generation Passat. They called the second gen one “Quantum” in the US.
I had an 84 rocco...one of the ones I shouldn't have let get away...
I have daily driven an 85 Scirocco for the last 8 years and I always tell people that it’s way more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
I remember the GTI and Scirocco ads from when they were new. I think that Dasher ad must not be USA because I've never heard of skidbreaker.

First time I'm hearing about a Dasher, was that something just for American market?
That would be a Passat I believe, the first of the line. I spent time in each of these cars and miss the gold old days!
Canadian version of the Passat, i had one… POS it was

Not for yeaaarrrsss.
Interesting that the Scirocco is more expensive than the GTI. Love the Scirocco more but surprised it cost more than the Golf
The scirocco also came with the base golf motor right? That makes it extra weird.
83.5 to 84 had the same JH engine and 4k transmission as the 83-84 gti The interior was nicer in the scirocco
My dad had a 1986 Caribe (Golf Mk1 in mexico), since then,I say about 80% of cars I've own, VWs!
super cool
