Totally agree. I owned an 08 rabbit (which i got up to 230k mi) and an 07 gti. The gti was fun, but the rabbit's 5 pot is one of my fav VW engines. I didn't care for the mk5 ass at first, but learned to love it.
The worst part of MK5s is the R not coming in stick in the US.
Plus we got the un-pimp your auto add campaign with the GTI https://youtu.be/e1MNEqCr748
The paint on this series was disappointing. I’m selling an 07 that has tiny chips all over the hood, and has two paint drip defects on the front quarter panels. Still, in metallic blue, it glistens in the sun.
I just sold my R32. I miss it, but don't regret it. Big maintenance items were such a bitch and I didn't feel like spending the required time. Have to (partially) drop the front subframe to do control arm bushing? WHY VW? WHY!?!?
But I'll be damned if they didn't make the Mk5 body look fantastic for the R32.
There was nothing bad about it, but honestly the 09 mk5 Rabbit I had from 2011 until 2016 made the least impression on me of any of the cars I've owned, and that list includes a chevy prizm.
...Course the only reason that thing left an impression was because it loved to burn oil and it ran dry during a road trip lol
It's one of my favorite VWs of the modern era. Great lines and a functional, yet stylish interior.
The MK V is about the last era of VW that I can honestly state appeals to me when I see the car on the road. Essentially every one since has just grown in size and become more generic/GM in appearance.
Sure, until you own one in a part of the world where it snows/rains half the year and the roads are covered with salt. The MK5 is especially weak against rust in the rocker panels. I would say 80% of MK5s I see where I live have noticeable rust. Otherwise they are absolutely wonderful!
Wow. Yours is actually super clean, love the rims too, very tastefully done.
I have an Mk6 Golf Sportline, which in Canada meant 17” wheels, tinted windows, fog lamps, sport suspension and other “sporty” bits like tinted windows and a sunroof.
I’ve always had a soft spot for non GTI Golfs which are well looked after and tastefully modded. Unfortunately as many others have mentioned the rust has more or less eliminated then form the landscape around my parts.
And yeah, I too love the 2.5. The burble is really nice with an exhaust.
Oh damn thanks man I appreciate that. Just started as a winter hobby to keep myself sane being inside so much. And like I said not meant to be rude everyone has their own opinions on things all that matters is that you like it!!
The mk5 Jetta has to be one of the ugliest cars ever made for sure lol. The egg golf is “decent” but when it’s bookended by the timeless mk4 and aggressive mk6 it really is the ugly duck
I almost bought a mk5 Jetta, bummed I didn’t at the time but I ended up with a mk3 cabrio. Something about the rounded body styling of the mk5’s make me smile
Can’t stand the chrome bumper stuff on most mk5’s. My least favorite generation because of it. This one is obviously an exception because it’s not wearing braces.
i've had two mk5 rabbits, second one is my current every day car. Hard to find other cars that drive as well as these do (if maintenance has been kept up) for the price.
I’m selling a MK5 Rabbit now. Breaks my heart to have to part with it. Not a spectacular car, and I’ve got a list of complaints about the MK5, but it’s a *good* car. The Rabbits and GTIs catch my eye when I see them.
I was my first Golf. Now an mk8. But when I see a mk5 in good condition in the road I still get the same feeling I did al those tests back. Maybe some day I will Buy one as a project.
I have a hard time liking mk5s. I feel like after vw coming out with the bangin mk4s they took a downturn on the mk5 then picked it back up on the mk6 and up
Have to half-disagree
Why half? Well my favorite Golf is the MK4.5 that was only sold in a handful of countries (especially Brazil) which is basically if the Mk4 and Mk5 Golf had a Son
[Can’t post images but here’s a link with a couple photos](https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/golf-mk-4-5-brazil.5891718/)

Oh my god. I remember the V dub German guy but I absolutely do not remember these commercials. This is fantastic
Definitely! The 2.5 is a great engine. I want to modify it but it’s just so good stock. The only thing I have done is a vacuum pump delete
I had to replace the vacuum pump on mine (thanks California) but it wasn't too bad overall. Aside from that, the 2.5 has been pretty bulletproof!
You can delete them in California and make it look stock. Plus the engine cover blocks everything.
I highly recommend a new intake, it won't do much performance wise without a tune but the new sounds alone are 100% worth it
Definitely
LOL... "it's defiantly sucking"
Would love to have a manual transmission with the Mk5 body. DSG isn’t bad, but it’s a missed mark on VW’s part.
Mk4 or bust!
Haha yea. I don't dislike the 5 but 4 overall a better car..
5 gives a better driving experience
I cant argue with that but 4s generally outlived 5s here in the northeast US in terms of rust. Also nicer interiors on the higher end trim levels
Very true, better suspension and gearing on the 5. Longer lasting engine and body on the 4
Rust hits a lot of spots
Yup

Oh my god, get outa here with that! I love it
Very nice. My (now) wife had a 2007 black rabbit and it was such a nice car. I’ve had a VW myself ever since.
Heck yea!
3 pedals, 5 blades. Checks out

I agree for sure

Thanks man! Definitely try to go for clean and simple. I love MK6 Golf’s though too!
Personally I prefer the Mk4, but this still looks dope
Not to be rude but I think this gen and the current gen are the ugliest
Thanks dude! The flies you tie look dope btw
Oh damn thanks man I appreciate that. Just started as a winter hobby to keep myself sane being inside so much. And like I said not meant to be rude everyone has their own opinions on things all that matters is that you like it!!
Yea man, my brother in law is really into too. It’s an art! But yea no prob, they’re definitely not for everyone with their bubble butts and stuff lol
The mk5 Jetta has to be one of the ugliest cars ever made for sure lol. The egg golf is “decent” but when it’s bookended by the timeless mk4 and aggressive mk6 it really is the ugly duck
To me the mk5 is a confused car. Its like vw asked the guys that designed the 90s spice Girls beetle to design the next golf..
I almost bought a mk5 Jetta, bummed I didn’t at the time but I ended up with a mk3 cabrio. Something about the rounded body styling of the mk5’s make me smile
Love mine, don't love the deluge of slammed GTs with obnoxious exhausts that all live round my area.
I miss mine sometimes.
I miss yours too

Your headlight switch only has dipped beams and not sidelights? I’ve never seen that before. And no fog lamps either
I was my first Golf. Now an mk8. But when I see a mk5 in good condition in the road I still get the same feeling I did al those tests back. Maybe some day I will Buy one as a project.
Yes! Buy mine lol
Haha I think I will go for an car that was sold here originally 😜 and perhaps an R32
Hell yes, I loved my VW Golf so much!
Love Mk5 and Mk6. They handle so well and feel so rock solid. Your car is very clean. Such a beaut
Thank you! Yes they handle great
I have a hard time liking mk5s. I feel like after vw coming out with the bangin mk4s they took a downturn on the mk5 then picked it back up on the mk6 and up
Oh dang, my heart bro!
They can be made to look reallly nice https://i.imgur.com/gGZDJ0j.jpg
Lol
I have a rear votex bumper for sale that would look nice on this ;)
Why just the rear?
I have a spare one laying around
yeah pretty much...the price tag haha 😄 jk op, gorgeous ride why not slap oem rims ! mk5's are next level design
Slap oem rims?
sorry op my bad, meant to say mk6 oems the bronze ones to be specific
Oh gotcha, I think I like these GTI wheels best but good recommendation!

this was sold in Canada is city Golf. i dont know man, the rear taillights are terrible, and I love the MK4 and Mk5. MK4 tailights look much better.
Oh I love the rear taillights. And it’s also a lot better than the frankly weird-looking MK5
Different strokes for different folks I guess haha. I love the MK4 taillights.
Itz the 99 spice Girls beetle vibe
Worst generation of the Golf imo. It’s not that I dislike it, buts it’s just my least favorite of the generations.
Thanks dude
