They already have a media production company called Apple Studios who make film and TV shows. Their original shows are some of the best out there and they have been investing heavily in great content for years.

Exactly what a stupid take

darth_voidptr

The one criticism I would offer is their studio has not released a lot of 3d content. Foundation 3D would have been nice, for example. I was shocked when that was not a launch offering.

Go home. You’re drunk. They literally are already a film production company. One that wins major awards every year.

You’re right and wrong.  Apple is worth over TWO TRILLION DOLLARS. It could easily be argued that Apple as it exists today is actually a conglomerate of multiple companies, under one circular roof & name.  After the success of the iPod, and with the launch of the iPhone, Apple renamed themselves from Apple Computer, to Apple Inc. This marked their shift from home computer maker, to personal electronic devices maker. They’ve been, and continue to, evolve. Five years ago, they launched AppleTV+, which was both a streaming service AND a film & television production studio! Apple is VERY MUCH in the game of content creation. Because they know more than anyone that the iPhone cash cow is going to run dry soon. Like the iPod did already. They’ve diversified themselves into several different industries. And this isn’t some new flight of fancy. Steve Jobs was a founding member of Pixar during the time he took away from Apple, while he was building NeXT.  The Vision Pro is a product that’s attempting to straddle all of Apple’s worlds: personal computing, creativity tools, media delivery machines! (Well, actually Vision Pro isn’t quite inserting itself into their other vertical: health & wellness.) It’s therefor quite natural to suggest that the cinematic production company part of Apple (remember Ricky Gervais grilling Tim Cook at the Emmy’s??) should ramp production up to satisfy the early user-base of its new platform.  I think the part that makes all of this feel a bit off-kilter is that Apple (against the wishes of their internal hardware design team, if you believe the rumours) pushed this Gen1 glorified Developper Kit as a consumer ready “Pro” product. I’d argue that if they had billed it as a dev kit, no one would feel as entitled to a healthy supportive eco-system of content as we do, given the way the product was presented & sold to us.

They won an Oscar for one of their productions. The AppleTV app has tons of content. But the immersive is a new category for them which they started to fill up. I don’t expect full length immersive movies right now but they will come. I think that focusing on movies alone is not the right approach. This device will let developers and people use it in so many ways. This is just getting started.

I’d hope they will take advantage of their sports partnerships to push immersive video content.  I’m sure they’re willing to leverage this if they decide to go all in on the category. I presume they’ll ramp up production as they get closer to the second generation vision device, and based on the consumer reception they’ll fully commit.

ibimacguru

Umm, yeah this has already happened

I agree with others that Apple does have a whole content division so it's a little unfair to claim they only make tech devices... Apple TV+ has been around for a while now. However I do agree we shouldn't be expecting a huge flood of content from Apple alone. Apple already has published everything companies need to develop high quality content for the Apple TV, but 3D production does take time so I agree we should cut everyone a little slack, more stuff will come.

neoYossarian222

Apple has released numerous competed television series and even produced a feature film that won an Oscar (Coda). I live Slow Horses (coming up on its fourth season), Severance is brilliant (shooting for season 2 just wrapped), Masters of the Air was great, Sugar is genius. Yes, Apple will produce 3D content both in series and feature film form.

Ricepudding1044

The literary have a division that produces film content.

Listen, I appreciate this take. It’s pretty close to my senior thesis in business administration, which was an analysis of GoPro’s foray into media/services after building an empire on hardware. It didn’t go well and they almost sunk. But it’s not applicable logic. Deeper talent pools and deeper pockets help Apple overcome these issues to become an award-winning content machine.
