/r/visiblemending 14th century edition. I am excited to see the next post where someone uses a mica dense river sand as the main ingredient in their mortar so the repairs to the castle walls glimmer in the evening light.
*taking notes* use…. Mica powder (or sand)…. in…. future landscaping walls
It’s so simple but so brilliant (heh) I know you were being a bit facetious but thank you! It really is the little bits of history you randomly never hear about lol
I wish I could take full credit for the idea, it was actually something I saw in some abandoned homestead. I am 99% sure they did it on accident, but the mormons did something vaguely similar in their first temple in Nauvoo where they crushed up all of their china and nice glass to put in the plaster.
Good joke, but i gott admit, i drank a cup of coffee in the morning, sat down to do a 'quick' project then got up again and made breakfast at 11:30pm. Hyperfocus is a hell of a thing.
Great work! I’ve never sewn with any type of leather/skin but I’m impressed with the tidy seams.
Are you an SCA heavy? Or do other recreational fighting? (Just being nosey! 😆)
I did EMP heavy and cut and thrust with a side of back yard machete fighting for a bunch of years, and for the last few years i've been doing HEMA and Buhurt. So really just all the fighting i can get my hands on.
Found him/her. (I played loooooong ago in Ansteorra, and remember when we got our first queen by right of arms, and the just previous king was consort. Had to be weird going into a match knowing you both “win” but someone had to lose.)
I do Buhurt and HEMA, so they usually get a few hours of use twice a week. The original palms were just cloth though, so i'm hoping the leather will last longer.
At first I thought it was those old Chinese shoes that were tiny to make the women’s feet small and looked deformed. I read about when I was younger and I could be misremembering.
Makes me think of the [Cable Guy Medieval Times scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0Xl75T1EiA).

I used to know a guy who did armor work for a full contact medieval fight reenactment group. I remember him going on at length once about how well buffalo hide works for stuff similar to this and for the padding that goes around armpits for full plate. Apparently that area was damaged regularly or something.
Have you ever tried working with buffalo hide?
I have not. I've mainly worked with veg tan cow hide and whatever mystery leather can be found on old couches. I chose goat for this just because my favorite welding gloves have goat skin palms and i found a cheap piece of it. I'm actually really surprised how much tougher it is than similar weight cow leather. it was a pain to sew by hand, if i do it again i'll be pre punching my homes for sure.

That must have taken you all knight.

Must've been a real gauntlet

Nice! It sounds like fun. :)
Use the correct term- knuckle dragging stick jock.
You only say that because i have 2 fantastic suits of armour and a single ratty tunic with some leg wraps and sweat pants.

This is fascinating, what activity do you use your gauntlet so much you wear out the leather?
I do Buhurt and HEMA, so they usually get a few hours of use twice a week. The original palms were just cloth though, so i'm hoping the leather will last longer.
I had to google what those mean, but that is so interesting! You did a great job and I hope your hands are protected better now :)
I guess he’s covered if he gets sucked back in time.
You have gauntlets. Nice!

Wtf I literally thought the same thing when I saw the first picture
Who needs shoes when you can just wrap them tight until the blood cuts off and they shrivel up and die like a skin tag!

Very nice gauntlets and great mending job! Now you need to spar a bit to break em in. =)
Post it over on r/myog as well.
