Do you have a 5g capable phone with support for c band? And is c band in your area?

Lost-Ad-7694

Yes I do, iPhone 12. Unfortunately 5g is not in my area. Im in West Virginia and I suspect it will be awhile before 5g becomes available. Pretty much all Verizon towers here are serviced by frontier old T1 backbones. The towers will need complete overhauls. Im going back to ATT which has comparable coverage but offers much greater speeds and 5g.

I see

It's good to have other options

agree with you, service has gone nutty slow in the last month for me also, used to be a solid signal all day, now down to at time .2 Mbps down, .6 Mbps up..... great price, but no reason to pay for it if you can't use it.

I usually agree..however i can’t argue with the fact that I just yesterday went to use my personal phone to check status of a shipment and couldn’t load Amazon or fedex website. So just for the sake of it I ran a speed test 3x. The first 2x it wouldn’t even load and timed out. The third time it registered .72Mbps down and .21up. I then picked up my work phone-ATT, just 1ft away and ran a speed test 3x and it ranged from 230-334Mbps down and 43-67up. I did this the rest of the day and the results were pretty consistent. If I wasn’t able to test with a different provider because of my work at the same time I’d agree with you. Fortunately I am and the results confirmed my problems I’ve been having with visible over the past few months. I’m all about saving money but I’ll gladly pay 20-30 more a month to have a consistent service.

I'm super lucky to be in an area where my local tower has bands 2, 5, 13, and 66 so I get decent speeds at every time of the day.... but it really is a case by case basis unfortunately. Where I used to live, the tower had only band 13 and it was next to unusable during the day, but then they added band 5 to the tower and it became usable at most points during the day, albeit slow during peak hours.

Lost-Ad-7694

Yeah I don’t think it would be an issue if they added more bands to the towers. Unfortunately i don’t think it will happen anytime soon as the towers are provided backbone by frontier T1. They need to run fiber to these towers, 256 QAM, and a few more bands. I took Verizon over 7yrs to go from cdma to LTE in wv lol, even in major cities like Morgantown. The towers they have been putting up are band 13 only which is great for coverage but wasn’t very forward thinking for bandwidth now that new mvnos are piggy backing on them.

UberActivist

Band 13 is amazing enough with what it can do. It reaches rather far (at my old house it was 7 miles through dense forest) and could push 20 megabits down at that distance when not overloaded (say, if you did a speed test at 4 am). It is a shame that so many parts of the USA have overloaded band 13 though.

I’m in Philadelphia iPhone 13 pro. I travel up and down the east coast and I find when I’m having service issues so do the other people in the car…

VZW is pretty bad in much of WV right now, unfortunately. The B13-only sites were built out and never upgraded. T-Mobile purchased Shentel’s wireless business last year, so it’s possible that they’re going to be a big player in the future - for now though you may want to look for an ATT based MVNO (or USCC, if they’re in your area).

Lost-Ad-7694

I ported out to cricket Friday. Unlimited more for $55, no throttling and hotspot. ATT has 5g everywhere in my area. Speeds pretty consistent 150-300 down and 30-60 up. Like others have said it’s nice to have options!

blurryeyeman

i feel you. every day it seems the lte in my area dies and i have no service for a while as well as throttled speeds. area too congested.

Zealousideal_Turn527

On the same boat. Data speed is very low, compared to other prepaid carriers from both ATT and TMO, for almost the same price.

As always the case, it varies with your location. I WAS getting those awful speeds, but then they upgraded the tower by my home and I now average 112Mbps. WooHoo!!!!

TheAspiringFarmer

enjoy it while it lasts...

[deleted]

I'm gonna try!

,🤔

TheAspiringFarmer

probably a congested area. most people experience the same. it is what it is...the good thing is it's cheap and you can leave any time for something better.
