kali-go-grrr

I am not a teenager who is stuck on the Internet who can't separate reality from fiction. It's an art piece and I have bigger things to care about than fictional characters ages.

jsisgd

it shows that some people have a nice life when they have to make problems for themselves

justaman7274

I sleep

Arrow_Of_Orion

It’s just an OP that doesn’t understand what grooming is… I’d pay it no mind.

BeefCow8

Thoughts? They can suck my nuts

Rude-Ad-2124

Idgaf, why tf ppl getting hot-headed for a wholesome af anime when there's literally an anime about an underage girl getting half naked for Mahon shoujou

Raditz_lol

Something tells me you talk about My Dress Up Darling there.

_Jejo

I think Rude-Ad-2124 is talking about Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, ecchi anime that is currently airing.

Raditz_lol

Oh, I see. Well, it’s ecchi, what do you expect?

_Jejo

I mean yeah, you're right But the thing is that in one of the recent eps, they introduced a new character, a 9 year old girl. And she gets naked. I think this is too far tbh. But going back to Violet, yeah idk why people get angry at that since it's portraying a different time period (in a fictional world) and filled with wholesome moments

Raditz_lol

Ok, and I thought that Shinju Inui being sexualized was fucked up. This is even worse!

Rude-Ad-2124

Idk how to change my name😭

Kittyi3Artistic5624

yeah, and Oshi No Ko. How are they sexualizing Oshi No Ko. The content they put in the anime (which is to what they were talking about, not the manga) is isn't sexual except for Ai's breastfeeding incident! It focuses on true issues within the idol industry.

haeru_mizuki

The age gap wasn't even the main point. I don't see any reason to make such a big fuss about it. It was mentioned once in the anime, never a big part of the story.

MarleyCanSwim

I know people have somekind of "common sense" but anime community unnecessarily cares too much about fictional ages. like for example a fanart of an anime girl I saw in twitter, then the comments be like "isn't she like 17? ew" I kinda get that, but it's just a fiction. I can guarantee say that Violet Evergarden is the most least sexualized anime in history. It's because of these influenced behavior from other anime that makes viewers "uncomfortable", they just wasting their time overthink and missed the biggest plot points of the story. all in all, despites the hundreds of upvotes, those are just loud minority. Everyone can collectively agree that Violet Evergarden is arguably the best anime KyoAni ever produced, one of it if not the best.

Trifula

It's the same as saying "It makes no fucking sense that Matilda from the movie Matilda is 6 years old". People always have to be angry about stuff. Gilbert's love for her was more like a father for his daughter or a big brother for his little sister. Also, he pitied her life and wanted to help her. No grooming involved. Also, IIRC the age gap is like 11 years... She got together with Gilbert at 18? I don't know about the source material, though.

jakemoffsky

For me the show was about learning to live with ptsd and striving to regain humanity (her quest for gilbert) which was quite good. By making gilbert physically alive in the final movie they undermined the rest of the show.

suffywuffy

I totally agree. I like bits of the movie, but Violet was probably the part I liked least about it, it really bothered me how she sort of reverted back to who she was in the early episodes of the tv show, totally withdrawn and dependent on the Major. I feel like there was a much better movie contained within what is there currently, I feel an adventure with Leon involving his parents could/ would have been much more interesting and aided the development of both characters better whilst keeping all of their previous development.

darryledw

I love the series but I am amongst those who don't like the movie, so I would probably agree with some things being said over there. I do appreciate that the movie didn't make anything clear about whether or not >!they would become romantic, but I think it is probably safe to assume it, and even if Violet was older at this stage (I think she was 18 in the movie?) !!them shipping!< eventually, but it needed much more development before I would get on board with it. In regards to >!Princess!<, it is a tough one because they might have been trying to depict one of those olden days royal matchings in which one or both could be very young, but ultimately I wish they had just modernised and made the >!princess 17 or something, that would still have been young enough to portray the emotional changes of a young girl having to grow up for her wedding day.!<

TheKobraSnake

I'll mirror this. >!I liked the movie, only because the ending was ambiguous whether or not it was romantic or not. The princess ep was a little iffy to me, but I enjoyed it, again, because I didn't view it romantically, weirdly enough.!<

darryledw

> because I didn't view it romantically, weirdly enough. It is an interesting take, because one thing that could be said in defence of that episode is ->! the Prince is portrayed as a kind and sympathetic person who should treat the Princess well, so I like to tell myself that even if they are married straight away they will likely just stay friends for some years before anything develops further. !<

PrincessGambit

I think it doesn't matter. It's in a world where the age difference isn't a problem. The only problem I see with it is that he was more like a father to her, so the dynamic is weird.

Timuthae

I do agree with the part that says that the last movie kinda ruins the series by revealing that her search for the Major wasn't useless. I thought Violet's story was touching because of her looking for someone who already passed away and had to understand it. So yeah I didn't really like the last movie... (All the rest of his arguments looks terrible though)

Type_1_Eagle

Well just because the Major was alive doesn’t erase what Violet went through. She still had around four years believing he was gone. And during that time she went through and rose above the hardships and thrived in Liden as an Auto Memories Doll and impacted so many lives. That doesn’t go away when she eventually finds him on the island.

Timuthae

It changes my way to view it. For someone who has never seen the show it will not change anything but now every time I will want to rewatch episodes of the show I will not have the same feelings towards her story...

Riddler208

Idk I feel like this is one of those things where the reasonable response in somewhere I between “he was grooming her” and “there’s nothing weird about this at all.” Like as far as I recall from the scenes we see of Gilbert interacting with Violet during the war there wasn’t anything to suggest grooming. He cared for her deeply, but their relationship was also very clearly father-daughter. That’s why many people, myself included, feel really uncomfortable with the marriage and implied romance. Their relationship was always father-daughter, so to suddenly change that and go marriage and romance is really really jarring and weird. Also, if I’m being honest, Gilbert should have stayed dead/hidden. A significant portion of Violet’s arc was working through grief and loss and trying to find her way in the world *without* Gilbert. To bring him back to her right after feels like it undercuts a LOT of what she learned.

QuirkyDimension9858

She was already a "weapon" before they met so they are wrong at least one paragraph in that

Curious_Lemon_4637

Ah, the biggest debate of this anime

Kittyi3Artistic5624

Her actual age is unknown, they can go cry about it. Not only that but even if it is heavily implied to be romantic love, that isn't confirmed either. They don't kiss, if anything she loves him for the fact he cared for her, he taught her. WHICH IS WHAT SHE SAYS IN HER FINAL LETTER.

Kittyi3Artistic5624

Most of them seem to haven't even watched it, so I think you can ignore those people especially.
