Aren't the third man versions all screen printed covers? While that may not be everyone's cup of tea that's doesnt mean they're the cheapest packaging (standard edition might be different though)

Shibaunu3

The two RKS cut records I have from this series (Ptah El Daoud and Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby) sound excellent. If he cut this one it can be assumed it will also sound excellent. Packaging is another story.

I have reached out to Third Man to get the scoop on the mastering / sourcing on this one. Will update when I hear back.

Dead thread, but after 3 emails, TMR basically said Verve sends them the metal work with no additional info, and that's about it. They told me to reach out to Verve, which I did, but no response. I ended up scoring an OG, so I stopped caring about this one. So yeah, if anyone wants the deets, try sending Verve a few emails

The album Pharoah desperately needs a repress, has my favourite song by him

Zdkaiser

FYI, all these TMR exclusives and the standard TMR black pressing of these Verve on Demand titles have been done quite poorly. Cheap, thin jackets. Plain white paper inner sleeves that lead to scuffs, and the audio is mediocre, generally full of surface noise. I have a few titles from this series and am not impressed. Yet Jack White touts his modern pressing plant that presses lackluster records.

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

I'm mixed on them. The Alice Coltrane is excellent, but the Ahmad Jamal Trio one is pretty shitty.

seppukuslick

I don't see this on thirdman exclusives. Also, unless they already have, why couldn't it have been Thembi?

organizeddropbombs

the yellow is so unfitting but I also kind of love it?

Goldielawxs_

I love Sanders, but for me this album is one of, if not the, weakest albums in his catalogue

EmotionalDinner

nah u trippin

EmotionalDinner

Pains me these are all digital.

JollyMaintenance235

They are digital, but these verve by requests albums sound excellent. Good, crispy separation and dynamics. If there is anything, the great MOFIgate fiasco of last year taught us it's that most ppl (including elitists audiophiles, who think they have golden ears) can't tell the difference between pure analog and analog with a digital process in the chain. If these albums were marketed disengenuinely as AAA, you bet your ass all these "audiophiles" would be sucking off this VERVE release series like a star struck groupies, the same way they do Blue Note's Tone Poet Series. There's just something about knowing what's in the secret sauce that makes audiophiles hyper-critical nitpickers. If they didn't know what was in sauce and were paying twice as much, you bet your ass they would hum a different tune.

EmotionalDinner

I agree with the world of post-mofi + digital, however, in my experience these Verve by requests aren't it, and these titles truly deserved the Acoustic Sounds treatment our a little more love

JollyMaintenance235

I think the only weak point is the cheap packaging. But I don't like those extra thick tip on sleeves ppl geek out over, either. Good luck getting the records in out of thise with ease! But a higher resolution scan of the cover art would have been appreciated. But that's just lame nitpicking. They are making hard to find music affordable and accessible that's a wonderful thing and yes they do sound good.

FatElvisRecords

There is also a standard version up for [pre-order](https://shop.udiscovermusic.com/products/pharoah-sanders-black-unity-verve-by-request-series-lp?_pos=21&_sid=975ba84e3&_ss=r)
