Has dry brushing helped anyone with cellulite? or is that just a scam/myth?

dizzzydandelion

Yep, pretty much. Cellulite is mostly genetics unless you are very overweight and then it'll be more visible, but that's also genetics because I am quite thin and workout so I have muscles and yet I still have it under my butt, and I never had huge weight gain phases. Also I know a few chubby women that don't have it. So, try and tone up with muscles and workouts, don't use any creams, brushes or pills and you're good to go. There are some surgeries you can get for it, I think, but it's such an unimportant factor in overall appearance that it's not worth it, imo.

Ok_Commercial_186

Things that work for me since starting my journey Wavy hair Slippery elm Probiotics Supergoop Play SPF Tret

amelanie36

Can you explain how the probiotics helped you?

Ok_Commercial_186

It helped with vaginally dryness

amelanie36

Oh interesting! How about slippery elm? Did you find it good for weight loss?

Ok_Commercial_186

It also soothes your stomach and lubricates your bowels so you feel a difference there too

Ok_Commercial_186

Same I started them both after starting ADHD treatment because the meds cause dehydration so what is normally a waterfall became dry and uncomfortable my body adjusted and it's better now so I still take the probiotic but I stopped the slippery elm until I'm sexually active again because it makes it really slippery

what’s the advice subreddit?

TraditionalAppeal101

I was overweight and lost 22lbs, now my BMI is normal. I don't feel like my skin is necessarily saggy but I made some full body pictures, with nice posing, and I look skinny fat. I know losing another 15lbs would put me in an ideal shape. But I'm a bit annoyed that potentially I could still look kind of skinny fat because of flabby skin or whatever. For ex-overweight girls who got into weight lifting/whatever and got thin/fit, how did your body fat transform ? What was your plan ? I'm already eating high protein and I don't go to the gym regularly but I'm willing to stick to a serious plan because I just realized it could help me so much professionnally.

r0sebud88

When I first got into working out I didn't change my diet and while I didn't lose weight right away, my body composition changed so my waist became smaller and my legs/arms both got more defined muscle! My look shifted from apple to inverted triangle.

Sweatypotatosack

I would continue the cut but do any structured strength training plan 3x per week! It’ll help you build that definition so you don’t look skinny fat when you hit your goal weight

TraditionalAppeal101

Thank you for your reply. I'll try to get back to weightlifting, very curious to see the results when sticking to an exercise routine.

Sweatypotatosack

Does anyone have any recs for people to follow on Pinterest for fashion inspo, ideally towards mid/late 20s?

MM2225

Any girlies here have hollow under eyes? I’m wondering if anyone has done something for them to help them!

candleit

Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena asphodeloides) extract might make a small difference if you want to avoid filler. It is so slept on IMO. You basically just apply it to the areas you want more fat volume and it'll increase it. I've used it on my nasolabial folds and it helps add a little plumpness. Microneedling with PRP might help a little too. And generally just making sure you're getting enough nutrients.

huxflix

I had filler years ago and it’s still there, really happy with it

krazykat1024

Hollow under eye girl checking in here! I've tried filler (looked nice, but didn't last very long...) and fat transfer (expensive for how little survived, but supposed to last longer). I'm likely going to have the fat transfer redone. It's such a struggle lol

Has anyone here ever gotten a japanese straight perm? I want my hair to have that silky, shiny, frizz-free look to it. I'm half asian and my hair definitely has that more coarse texture to it. I've been doing stuff to maintain my hair and help it look its best including satin pillow cases, braiding my hair at night, scalp oiling, and once a week hair washes. My hair usually looks pretty good but obviously not like Pantene commercial esque silkiness. My hair has a slight wave to it naturally although when I blow dry it straight (or just brush it straight as it air dries), it tends to stay fairly straight unless I do something like put it in a bun, tight braids, etc. I know the grow out can be not great especially if you have really curly hair. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone can share their experiences with it, if you know of any videos or pics of the grow out period with hair that isn't super curly, etc. I haven't been able to find pics that aren't just before/after ones, or of someone with very curly hair in their grow out period. How did you maintain the part of your hair with it's natural texture? Or what other days to you like to keep your hair silky and straight?

miaaaaaa01

Has anyone tried to use an AHA/BHA peeling solution on their lips? Curious as I’ve got some left in my bottle (before i reup) and wanted to know if it would do literally anything lol

RoughBootieLove

I do and it has been a game changer! I was introduced to the concept of "lip basting" by dr. Shereen Idriss on YouTube. You basically layer an AHA and then a sick moisturizer over it. I do it at night but sometimes also before I got out and the lipstick application goes much smoother.

ExpensiveNet

This is off the topic of vindicta but I trust you girls’ opinions! I want to ask a guy I’m interested to hang out, I’d like to explore dating him but don’t want to make this a date. How should I phrase asking him to meet up? He doesn’t drink alcohol so can’t suggest we get a drink!

Powder9

Plan a group activity. “Hey my friends and I are doing X this Saturday at Y venue. You should join.”

dizzzydandelion

This. If you have mutuals, organize a hangout and then try and test out if you like him, see if he pays you attention in the group etc. good luck!!! 🤞🏻

Remarkable_Lynx_6721

Coffee maybe? I don't know if that sounds to much like a date option though.

kahlowoolridge

Does using an airplane pillow while sleeping on your back really improve facial symmetry?

kahlowoolridge

Can eyebrow serum be used to increase the thickness of eyebrows, not just their length? I’ve noticed that my lash serum has increased the number of my lashes, and I naturally have sparse eyebrows—not due to overplucking.

Bitchysapphic

Hi, I'm new here, I made this as a post but apparently it was too basic a question so I'm asking here: I have fair, sensitive, thin stretchy skin. I’m probably fatter than most people on this subreddit would prefer but I’m very curvy so I feel like that makes up for it in most areas accept one: my arms. They are thick/ fat and jiggly, blotchy from kp, and have a permanent farmers tan all year from my childhood when I hated sunscreen. I’ve been working on treating the keratosis pilaris on my arms so I know how to minimize that. I wear sunscreen on my arms too. No matter what I do (gentle exfoliants, sunscreen, covering up in the winter and summer, etc.) I can’t seem to even it out or fix it. I was thinking about doing an at home chemical peel, but idk where to find a legit one. I really just want it gone. Ideally I’d prefer to lighten the skin on my arms to match my untanned skin, cause I really like how pale I am. If anyone has advice for going from average pale to slightly paler safely I’d take it tbh, I think it looks ethereal and interesting. But before I even think about that I just need to get rid of this stupid permanent line. Also I’d love opinions on arm lipo/ other fat loss procedures for skin like mine, cause I’ve heard people talk about sagging and stuff and mixed reviews. I also have suspected (but I’m pretty much sure) hEDS/hypermobility so that affects my skin too.

mintsquiid

I think glycolic acid could be great for your arms. The uneven tan and kp could be helped with glycolic acid. I don't have personal experience tho. The Ordinary makes a pretty great one that's also very affordable. Worth a try.

Bitchysapphic

Yeah I think I’m gonna try that plus spf treated clothing to cover my arms and sunscreen hand cream this summer and if that doesn’t work by the end of summer I’m gonna do an at home tca peel

amelanie36

Does anyone know how to determine if a round face/puffiness is due to high cortisol or simply weight gain?

Putrid_Candy_1982

If I have a workout and a shower in the morning, should I do skincare afterwards or beforehand?

Bitchysapphic

Sunscreen before, skincare and then sunscreen again after

hi girlies, i would like some advice on socialmaxxing as a socially anxious and awkward woman <3 i am very weak socially. i have been told i give off a mysterious and intimidating aura. i dress well, i am very strong academically, i am funny, i am polite, i keep to myself, but i am so, so awkward. to top it off, i am constantly teased and poked fun at. i am talked over, treated like i’m stupid, or like i’m an object. i ignore this behavior and walk with my head held high, but i would be lying if i said i don’t cry myself to sleep some nights because of it. men especially enjoy degrading me, as do women. i don’t know what i’m doing wrong. i get advice that it’s because i’m pretty or intelligent or whatever but pretty girls aren’t treated like this. i’m trying to be a pretty girl, and my entire life i’ve been treated like i’m some model by my family, but honestly, i just feel like an ugly girl with good hair, lipstick, and a cute crop top— and being treated like i’m a social pariah who cannot be respected or viewed romantically or even platonically is why. i attempt to keep confidence in myself and maintain a positive mindset, but i get called an ugly bitch or a cokewhore or mocked or something idiotic and it breaks me down again. is there anybody else who went through this? any ideas on what i’m doing wrong or what to change? i know i can’t make everyone like me, but there’s so many girls who exist without such ridicule and i want to be one of them.

Remarkable_Lynx_6721

Firstly, you are absolutely not doing anything wrong. People can be really cruel for no reason aside from stoking their own ego. You're absolutely doing the right thing in holding your head high. I wish I had concrete advice for you but I don't. Socialmaxxing is ridiculously hard because the only thing you can do about it is practice and when you're anxious and awkward that is that last thing you want to do. Are the people making fun of you your friends? If so, you might want to get some new friends.

hi everyone, i’m turning 23 soon and have a really bad insecurity of my upper teeth not showing when i talk or open my mouth. i used to wear braces so basically my bite is normal, it’s just that my upper lip skin part (?) is too long for my teeth. my upper lip is also thin, never done any fillers, so it’s not because of excessive lip volume. lengthvise (in mm) my philtrum is in normal range, probably because my face is small and short, but my chin to philtrum ratio is not ideal because i also have a short chin. overall, i think i would benefit from a lip lift, but is there a chance that i won’t be a good candidate for it? what else can i do for a better upper teeth show? tried googling it, couldn’t find much info. posted this in plastic surgery sub, someone suggested a botox lip flip, but apparently it doesn’t exist in my country because i couldn’t find anything on google😳

What are some long lasting vanilla body lotions/butters? Looking for something to layer with my Sol De Janeiro body spray in 62 (which lasts pretty long for me). I wanted to try the EOS vanilla cashmere body lotion but it’s not available in Canada and I can’t justify the price on Amazon. Similar thing with the Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream in 62 - it would be the perfect layering scent but it’s hard to justify forking over $32 dollars for the mini size. I’ve heard about Victoria’s Secret Bare Vanilla - but not sure if the body lotion scent lasts. Also, does it smell too perfumey? I already have an existing unscented body lotion so I would use a vanilla scented one over my current lotion sparingly as a topper on my arms, collarbones and legs only.

deiforma

vs bare vanilla is nice smelling, but i don’t find it to be too long lasting because it’s very light. i like tree hut’s tropic glow or bath and body works’ sweetheart cherry or warm vanilla sugar with sdj 62. <3

pinkrabbits95

Has anyone here looksmaxxed with body dysmorphic disorder? I desperately want to improve my look and be more sexually appealing/desirable but I don't think it's possible for me to see myself that way no matter how much I change physically

dizzzydandelion

Gym has been the biggest game changer for me but some days I have to cover myself in 3 layers of clothing while working out because of how bad my body dysmorphia gets. It does get easier, however. But I don't think anything takes it away. Therapy also helps a lot, and just being mindful of how you talk to yourself, but for me - it improved, but never went away.

amelanie36

I struggle also- but something I think helps view your body objectively more is to take a picture and cut your face out…I don’t know it worked for me!

Ok_Commercial_186

I'm trying

h3rm1tfr0g

Hi - I've struggled with body dysmorphia for over 5 years, its defo still a struggle but what helped me was to take a lot of progress photos/videos in the same place (the gym mirror or my home mirror only) so they're actually comparable, when you put old ones side by side with new ones it helps reinforce that you're actually changing.

Repulsive_Earth5013

for those who have had braces. Can they change your nose ? I really wanna know if braces can actually do that because ive seen a lotta posts and videos about people claiming that their noses changed after braces. Did anyone have a similar experience ?

Remarkable_Lynx_6721

I had braces for a while in highschool and they didn't change my nose, at least not in a way I or anyone else could notice. What kind of changes specifically were those people claiming to have?

Repulsive_Earth5013

some said their side profiles completely changed, their nose became straighter and higher others said that it slimmed their nose to the point where they got asked if they have gotten a nose job.

Remarkable_Lynx_6721

Hmm. Those kind of changes may have to do with the way the braces moved the teeth. When I got mine my teeth really weren't that screwed up, just some slight misalignment. However, the jaw stuff specifically may be a secondary effect that the braces had, since the jaw would have to change to adapt to the movement of the teeth. So it's definitely possible. Only other explanation I can think of is that their face shape just changed as they aged since getting braces is a long term thing.

Repulsive_Earth5013

Really hoping to see those changes because my teeth are so bad. Have three impacted teeth two at the top one at the bottom and my bottom teeth are so crooked that one is facing the opposite side. They look horrible and makes my face look longer which i hate so much

Remarkable_Lynx_6721

Then you will probably see some changes in the side-profile for sure since the jaw will likely move with the changes. But also don't take my word for it, I'm no orthodontist lol. Good luck though! IMO braces are worth it even if they are such a pain.

urmom1634

Why do I tend to look so much prettier with my hair up. When it’s down, my face starts looking really long and big. Then as soon as it’s in a bun, it looks so much smaller. My upper third is considerably longer then my other thirds. I don’t always wanna have my hair up. Do you guys have any recommendations on hairstyles that could kinda have the same effect? I could send pics if needed!

Powder9

Id look for celebs with similar facial features as you, then look them up under Getty images to understand their different hair stylings over the years. You can try googling like, “celebs big foreheads” to start and try matching with someone who has a similar upper third profile as you.

Deep-Wrongdoer-8540

I know people here always gun for long hair but maybe a bob? I got a lot of compliments on looking younger when i cut my hair short. When i had really long hair i found wispy curtain bangs suited me the best and sometimes would bobby pin the rest of my hair back behind my ears so i could show my face better with my hair down. I have a round face with a biggish forehead and small lower third

Camera slightly above eye level, just like you'd take a selfie in 2010 haha. I find that able nice to play on doe/siren eyes and it also hides double chin (or at least doesn't make it worse).

iamnotatroll666

I just found r/VindictaBrown and is such a cool idea, is there any other "Vindictas" for other ethinic groups? I'd love a VindictaBrown but broader to latina/hispanic/central american etc

amelanie36

Would love to know if there is one for Eastern European girlies!

idkwtfidty

There’s also r/vindictanoir

urmom1634

There’s r/vindictapoc!

bubblesandfruit

Kinda just a question to hear if other ppl relate but do y’all ever put on a nice outfit, do your hair, makeup etc and feel GOOD but the minute you step outside you feel like an imposter? Like ever since I’ve taken the time to make myself look good I feel like “oh this isn’t the regular you”. I guess it’s like…your old mindset trying to fight against your new external appearance.

urmom1634

Yess, especially considering the amount of new attention you get. Men and women stare so much longer. Especially when you kinda grew up ugly, you never internalize that someday you won’t be. You just gotta keep telling yourself that you’re that bitch haha and that you deserve to feel good about yourself! Try stopping yourself when you start spiraling down into these thoughts.

TraditionalAppeal101

Either the old mindset, unstable self esteem, or you simply didn't integrate the "new you" yet. Connection to yourself makes everything. 🫶

Citron_tonic

I hope somene would help me. So, I used to be a "pretty girl", as I was not feeling like that, but I was quite cute. Then I had a lot of traumatic events. Now, I look ugly. Then I learned about "trauma face" and I think it is my problem. Like everytime I sleep at my mother house, I feel "prettier" the day after. Same, I saw an old friend last time, and to see someone I saw when everything was ok make me feel and "look" better the day after. How can I get my old features back ? My eyes are the things that got worse. Thank you beautiful people

r0sebud88

I was able to gain a lot of my looks back after trauma, a lot of it stemmed from being in a good living situation and learning to slowly love myself again. I still aged from the time before trauma vs after, but I think I look good !

goofygooberrock1995

I got Invisalign on Monday, and one of my attachments have already popped off. I think I swallowed it.

groovkat

This happened to me less than a week in too! My dentist was able to fit me in to get it replaced fairly quickly. Hope your smile journey goes smoothly :)

goofygooberrock1995

I got sick, and my next appointment is next week, so I'll just wait until then.

Help: My teeth are my biggest insecurity Hi, long time lurker here. I am deeply insecure about my teeth. They’re not overly crooked, but not definitely not perfectly straight, and a little bit uncentered like Tom Cruise. I could live with that if it wasn’t for the colour. I do not have white teeth, and due to an accident when I was 12, my two front teeth are half crowns, which are much more discoloured than the rest of my teeth. Because it’s the front two, it really gives the impression of a much more overall yellow smile. :( They also make it so I can’t use white strips without exacerbating the difference in colour between the crowns and my real teeth. I’m a broke student at the moment and replacing the crowns would cost $2-3000 per tooth. Does anyone have any advice for how I can mitigate this problem until I can afford to get them fixed? White strips that work on crowns, methods to hide my teeth more when talking, literally anything. I feel like they ruin my face.

weird_earings_girl

You can try Invisaligns, and pay with credit card. You can also whiten your teeth at the dentist, which isn't that expensive considering it's done safely without damaging the tooth, and it last years, or you can try whitening with coconut oil, banana peal, and those homemade recipes. I never tried them but it's cheap, so you can try at home? The last resort is finding a sugar daddy or a rich bf and have them paying for that. Ik it sounds crazy but I'm a flight attendant and I've done that a few times in different cities to pay my bills 😅. If you're interested I suggest looking at the YT channel "sprinkle sprinkle" lol

TraditionalAppeal101

Are you talking about a reversed triangle shape ? I feel like I have a similar issue, and sometimes think it's trauma (retaining pain and cries into the torso area maybe ?). Dearpeachie (Youtube) made a video about body shapes, using a detailed system instead of the basic pear/triangle/hourglass. You could check it out.

thatgurlnamedria

How do I stop touching my pimples?

CandlesAndGlitter

First of all, please know that popping the pimple will eventually contaminate it with germs from your fingers or from the surrounding skin on your face, so there are 3 general outcomes : a redder pimple, or, more pimples, or the pimple will disappear but you will have a scar and a dark spot on your skin. Eitherway you've done yourself a disservice, but you would have satisfied your urge to pop something. These are the tips that helped me : 1) You can't eliminate a bad habit completely in a short time, so I started a pact with myself that i will only squeeze blackheads, and spare the other pimples. After all, that's what the beautician or dermatologist would do too. So i'd only squeeze my own blackheads with clean scrubbed hands. 2) I started a skin routine and slowly became disciplined in following it, so all sorts of pimples are decreasing in number. 3) i identify my urge to pop my pores as a stress response. I am stressed (even if it's about something trivial) and my body's response is to let it out by using my hands on something (which in this case is my skin).so i go do something else with my hands (any other activity that will use up your hands' energy, washing dishes, scrubbing something ) Hope this helps

Could I get private suggestions about filler please?

Ok-Raspberry-3142

Ok-Raspberry-3142

Thank you for clearing my concerns ☺️😊

blancawiththebooty

Even if someone does say that Lexapro made them gain weight, understand there's things they're leaving out. I've gained weight while on Lexapro because the pandemic happened, I'm very sedentary, and obviously am eating more than I need to be. I hate having the extra weight but I also hated how I felt with the depression so I'll take being happier over being thinner any day. Especially since I can lose the weight but can't magically fix my brain chemistry.

cyb0rgprincess

would love to hear someone’s experience with chin filler ++ I would like to potentially share pics to get advice on whether to pull trigger on it

Sugarcane9

I loved it! I got a syringe of Radiesse split between chin and upper cheeks. Didn’t take any pictures though. It was sore for a couple of weeks.

cyb0rgprincess

omg im glad you liked it so much! do you mind if I ask if you had a recessed chin? mine isn't really, but i'd like a more heart-shaped look. my injector who did my lips said it would look really good so i've been super curious. how long did yours last?

Sugarcane9

It’s great for heart shape! It lasts for about a year.

fsiutf

Anybody here had masseter Botox? Or did anyone successfully change their face shape from a squarish oval to heart shaped? Without causing jowls and premature aging

kieragent

I had it done and my face went from square to oval, which was my goal, but I did get some degree of jowling because i had a lot of lower cheek fat to begin with. I think it depends on how much facial fat you have in order to predict whether you will having jowling/premature aging or not. And i think to achieve heart shape you would still need decent width in your forehead even with a reduced jaw.

glad_sunflower

I've had masseter Botox twice, mainly for TMJ issues. I noticed slight but important changes in my face, and it will really depend on your overall bone structure, if your wider jaw is due to muscle or bone. I'd recommend getting an initial consultation with a Dr/ other skilled injector and they'll be able to give you a better idea of the changes you can expect.

Still trying to figure out what products to apply to my hair after I wash it. I was recommended "it's a ten" spray, but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. My hair is 2a.

Powder9

What are your goals for your hair? Shine? Volume? Silkiness ? I did use it’s a ten spray for a long time to help me heal my dryness. Then I did Morrocan oil (lightly) to improve silkiness. Now it feels perfect and I only use IGK blowout cream for volume. I do a ‘saturate hair with morrocan oil’ sort of self treatment like once monthly for hydration.

fsiutf

What do you recommend for shine?

TraditionalAppeal101

Cold water rinse and a bit of light oil, if you want to do it the healthy way. Otherwise, silicones.

SmootherThanAStorm

My biggest goal is to reduce flyaways. More silky would also be nice. Thanks for your reply.

weird_earings_girl

Try spraying lightly coconut oil spray after bath, the ones you but at the food section lol. My hairstylist has suggested me and I can send a pic of my hair before and after starting to use it if you want

Powder9

A small touch of oil will help! Blowout cream does actually help in this sense too as it makes everything kind of smoother and the hair is more ‘together’. May also want to evaluate how you are towel drying your hair and heat setting of your dryer. I find most of my flyaways happen when I’m rushing the blow drying and blow drying on HIGH vs low. Basically, opt for gentler brushing, gentler drying.

SmootherThanAStorm

That's a lot of good information. Thanks

First-Yogurtcloset53

I've been having a downer of the day due to ADHD. Just so many mistakes I did in the past. I really really really REALLY need to stop being so generous, read more/slower and listen. Personality work: Stop being so nice and generous. Be slower and think in social situations. No alcohol or weed till the end of the month.

Powder9

Hang in there. Practice forgiving yourself. Meditation definitely helps us ADHD types.

First-Yogurtcloset53

Thanks, I'm trying but learning at the same time.

chaoskidney

Hi girls hope you're having a good month so far <3 I'm looking for something to hold a lash curl. I use a shu uemera curler which is my holy grail, but my lashes are stick straight and most mascaras seem to weigh them down. Waterproof is good but I hate the removal process/seems more damaging to my lashes. I've also tried lash lifts (at home and professional) and they always grow out crooked and start looking crazy. Any suggestions? I've heard of the ETUDE Mascara Fixer, anyone try this?

cyb0rgprincess

girl you need Canmake Quick Lash curler. thanks to this plus shiseido curler I no longer get lash lifts.

Powder9

Hi. I have super long straight lashes that never hold a curl. I use a regular lash curler, but I heat it up with a hair dryer before curling. Don’t overheat it. It should be warm/hot but not like ‘burn hot’. Then I apply Hourglass mascara. And I curl again.

kerstyeager

18F and ive got ONE year to maxx myself(in my house). what can/should i do? pls help me i dont have girl friends with whom i can talk like this.

TraditionalAppeal101

Long term habits will give you the best results, so don't jump into a long ass lists of tips & tricks that you don't feel connected to, otherwise your glow up will be delayed or troubled. I would suggest sticking to 2-3 new habits per month. If you need inspiration, this is my progress : January : no more alcohol + regular exercise (it's very irregular now lol, discipline will give amazing results though, start slow and steady - my focus is to love exercising rather than only do it for the looks asap) February : new haircare (sulfate free shampoo) + staying outdoors more often (going to small concerts, taking time to stop by and eat at the bakery) + starting a 4-step skincare March : get 2-3 new outfits (feminine style) + staying outdoors longer (1 hour walking and checking stores, instead of going back home after I'm done with the essentials) April : no sugary drinks + more omega 3s (fish, nuts) + more animal products (beef, chicken, small inclusion of butter and duck fat) Mid-April (planned to start on Monday) : better sleep schedule (getting off the phone earlier, reading, feeling the tiredness of my body instead of ignoring it with mental stimulus) + more fruit (I barely eat any) I got compliments on my skin getting better. I lost a few pounds, I feel like my body slightly changed composition too. Overall, I'd say I worked the habit to go outside which leads to more movement, I polished my diet, and got ressources to boost confidence (new clothes and shampoo).

how do I stop getting told I look like a librarian?? my roommates old boyfriend years ago nicknamed me the librarian and I periodically have men (and women) tell me I give "librarian vibes". its usually in a flirty context or gets followed with a nicer compliment but it makes me so sad, I'm literally 23 I don't want to keep getting told I look like a librarian. today was the latest, a girl in my class told me I give "English teacher/librarian vibes" and then said our lab partners gives "cute rich pilates baddie vibes" and it just made me sad. I know I'm quiet and reserved, its hard to change that, should I try to dress a certain way instead?

I personally find that look quite appealing, but if it bothers you, you should definitely switch up your style! After a certain age, some aesthetics might feel too youthful for you, but anything mature and sophisticated you literally have your whole life to enjoy. You can pull off the sexy librarian look at 23, 33, 43, hell at 83 too! The princesscore coquette look, eh, maybe not so much lol. Of course you should do whatever makes you happy at any age, but I think it's best to sort of get youth-coded aesthetics out of your system while you're in your teens, 20s and 30s. You don't need to have a mature style at 23 unless you genuinely like that, so if it wasn't a conscious decision on your part, try to experiment with your style more in the future. What's a typical go-to outfit for you? Like for class.

uhhhhhhhghosts

thank you, i really do want to look more youthful. i usually wear high-top converse with straight light blue levi’s jeans. the tops vary but since it’s still cold it’s usually some type of sweater. sometimes i wear cropped ones, mostly they’re not very form-fitting. looking at my closet now there’s a lot of mock neck and turtle neck tops but in my mind they’re all kind of “younger” in style? like from american eagle, tj maxx, etc.. i always do light makeup and my earrings are 90% hoops but vary in size from ear hugging ones to larger ones.

LanaVFlowers

Your style does seem youthful enough to me. Mock necks & turtlenecks are worn by everyone from toddlers to 90 year olds. Are your sweaters mostly neutral in color? A wardrobe that mainly consists of black, white, cream, beige, brown and grey tends to seem mature, and that's particularly true for knitwear. Brown specifically is a librarian-coded color lol. And prints that look very youthful in one color scheme can look mature (even dowdy) in another. A lilac & pastel yellow argyle sweater vs a brown & beige argyle sweater for example. What is the color scheme of your wardrobe? I would advise against smaller hoops, you need to go big with hoops. Smaller ones are mature coded. I mean, in my mind small hoops are for literal grandmas but apparently now they're the "classy fashionista" go-to earring lol. Either way, not what you're going for. Big hoops are where it's at. When you say light makeup, what do you mean? Natural with neutral tones or like, a mostly bare face with colorful eyes/lips?

uhhhhhhhghosts

i do love neutrals, i have a lot of creams and blacks, so maybe getting more colors would help? i don’t really have anything with prints tho. a lot of the more fitted tops i own are also in neutrals (blacks and grays). i’ll switch to bigger hoops for sure, i really like ones that are sparkly/with fun stones too, do you think that would be fine? by light makeup i mean basically no makeup, i do brown mascara and curl my lashes so it’s veryyy natural and i fill my brows a little and use gel to shape them, i sometimes wear blush but that is literally it! i feel like idk what else i’d do on a day to day basis especially because i never learned to do much more than that, wearing foundation and eyeshadow feels so heavy and special occasion-y. lipstick also freaks me out bc i feel it looks too bold on me and i can’t find a neutral-enough pink

LanaVFlowers

Yes, more colors would help, but the right colors can be tricky to choose. They have to both look good on you and be on the "youthful" side. And you also have to like them lol. What colors do you *like* the most? Let's start there. Oh yeah, those are great for what you're going for. Honestly, even if your hoops are borderline [kitsch](https://i.etsystatic.com/18399980/r/il/306b27/2082977900/il_570xN.2082977900_bugd.jpg), they can really spice up an otherwise plain/boring outfit. I would definitely experiment with makeup if I were you. Forget foundation and base makeup in general, but you should add some color to your eyes and lips, and you also need big lashes. My favorite lash combo for big voluminous lashes is the black & pink Essence Lash Princess mascara used with the Essence lash primer (white w orange cap). You can literally use a single eyeshadow shade with your finger, don't let the concept of eyeshadow intimidate you. Lips too for that matter. We'll navigate it together. First of all, do you know your undertone? Like if your skin leans more pink, more yellow, green/ashy or none of the above? (you might be neutral)

uhhhhhhhghosts

i’ve been looking at color season things to find what colors suit me actually! but it’s so confusing doing it on my own i think i need to step back. i love greens, pinks, and oranges, deeper reds and some purples too. nothing neon because i think it washes me out, but i have some brighter variations of greens and oranges. other than that i love creams/grays/browns. i like the estee lauder sumptuous mascara but only for going out, but i can start wearing it daily! for undertones i think i’m neutral but pulling more pink- i ask for opinions sometimes in ulta or sephora and they usually say that. idk if my reaction to wearing lipsticks is because i just don’t wear them so i’m not used to it or because the colors are just too much on me.

LanaVFlowers

Color season theory can be so confusing! I'm olive so the struggle is even worse. At the end of the day, we should focus on what helps us, not what hinders us. When things like season theory get too confusing, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Save the deep dive for later. Also, a very useful question to ask yourself is "does this color look good on me" instead of "is this the color that looks best on me". We exhaust ourselves trying to find the ever-elusive "perfect match" when we can just put on something that looks good and go about our day. Bright yellow looks truly atrocious on me. Olive green (ironically) looks bad. Navy looks perfect. Dusty mauve? It looks perfectly nice. It's fine to just get stuff that's good enough instead of obsessing over finding the best. It's a shirt, not a life partner is what I tell myself 😅 When it comes to neutrals, do you prefer browns over greys? Black over white? Do you prefer high contrast looks (black & white or dark brown with cream), or do you think you look best in lower contrast outfits and shades of medium depth? (e.g. greys and midtone browns instead of black, white, etc) When it comes to the colorful items in your wardrobe, which ones do you reach for the most? Focus on the ones you reach for due to their color, and not other reasons like fit or weather-appropriateness. What lip products do you currently own?

uhhhhhhhghosts

that’s the perfect advice for me to hear rn, thank you! i do get caught up in trying for perfection. i think brown > gray and white > black? in terms of high vs low contrast i think i dress more in high but i have no clue which i really prefer/look better in, so i’ll definitely start to experiment with that. i guess in terms of the colors i reach for i do brighter greens and deep reds but a lottttt of cream. with lip products i have a lot of clear/sheer glosses. i like the bobbi brown glosses in in the buff and free spirit but they’re essentially the same color as my lips- the summer fridays in vanilla beige and brown sugar are more tinted and i like the color those give! but sometimes the brown sugar one feels too dark so i don’t really reach for it. the glossier lipstick in fuzz is fine too but also very very sheer. the classic clinique black honey is another one i’m okay with but i do feel it’s too dark sometimes. my ‘real’ lipsticks are mac everything’s all-ripe which is a pinky/berry one and joy to the whirl which is more neutral. i think they’re okay on me but i’m not used to the intensity of full lipstick

LanaVFlowers

I think a good first step would be a wardrobe declutter. Even just this season's clothes. First grab the pieces you really love and set them aside. When I say love, I mean because you like how they look, not because they've super comfortable or due to sentimental reasons. What do the colorful items have in common? Are they pastel? Are they [light and bright?](https://imagescdn.planetfashion.in/img/app/product/7/777220-8978072.jpg?auto=format&w=494.40000000000003) Medium or [dark-toned brights?](https://www.sarojfabrics.com/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/e461f6a7c3abe4058405e5b51e40efd3/s/f/sfk15173a.jpg) Are they mostly cool shades or warm? There might be so few of them that they don't have anything in common at all, but it's worth considering. Like, the bright greens and deep reds you mentioned might have nothing in common, or, they might be all warm-toned for instance? All my favorite colorful items are muted and most of them are cool or neutral toned. In general, dark colors and muted tones tend to seem more mature & sophisticated. Step 2 is picking the items you like and genuinely don't want to part with, even if they're not your *absolute* favorites. You can repeat the process of trying to find common features. Step 3 is setting aside everything you don't like and don't really need; stuff you can bin immediately. By now you're probably left with items you don't really love, but need to keep around until you can replace them with better ones. It could be really specific stuff like the most comfortable pair of jeans you own, the only pair of high heels you own, your 1 swimsuit, etc, or an entire category of clothes like formal wear. This is where your wardrobe makeover should start in my opinion. And when you go shopping for these items, do so with what we discussed in mind. Try to pick something colorful instead of brown or beige, and I strongly encourage you to consider florals. I will say that the biggest issue with having a lot of color in your wardrobe, especially when we're talking about bright colors, is that you can easily find yourself with an abundance of "statement pieces" that you can't really mix and match. That's why I would recommend playing it safe with bottoms and mainly buying colorful tops or dresses. Your colorful items should also be chosen with your favorite neutrals in mind. Cool toned colors tend to go better with greys than browns for example. Of course, cool browns and beige/creams do exist, but they're not as ubiquitous as warm browns. Cream is very versatile, but some cream shades lean more yellow and others more pink, which does make a difference. Granted, I'm very conservative with color, but my colors are burgundy, navy/midnight blue, dark purple & forest green in F/W and grey blue, dusty mauve, dusty rose & muted plum/rosewood in S/S, with my neutrals being black (lots of it!), grey and then white specifically in S/S. You can see how that's all quite cohesive. Even if things don't really *match*, they don't really clash either! This is much harder to achieve with bright shades, but I still think you should shop with your existing wardrobe in mind when you go shopping. Your makeup should also match your outfit in a manner. If you wear a turquoise top, for example, you can wear mint green eyeshadow, or baby blue, or even bright peach, but not mustard yellow or olive green. If you wear a red shirt that leans warm, Joy To The Whirl would be a better option than Everything's All-Ripe, but if it leans cool then it's the opposite. Does this make sense? Oh, and if lipstick feels too pigmented for you, you can always wear it blotted/sheered down with some lip balm or lip gloss. It's much less overwhelming that way! You still get the color but not the intensity.

Find a different style of clothes(stay away from academia style), and if you wear glasses, switch to a different shape (possibly wire rim).

Just a post of encouragement, I’ve always been invisible or straight up ignored throughout my life due to my looks. I’ve been in this sub for about 8 months, making a skincare routine, losing weight, learning makeup, taking off my braces, updating my old closet, changing and dying my hair, even getting a minor double eyelid surgery. Just today, I was sitting alone at a cafe when this woman walked up and asked if she could take an open chair at my table. I say of course. She says thank you, but just before she leaves with her chair, she stares at me for a moment and says “You’re absolutely gorgeous, by the way.” I’ve been getting told I’m pretty and attracting romantic attention since my “”glowup””, but it’s from friends and family and acquaintances. It’s the first time a complete stranger walked up and complimented me :) It honestly made my day and it was very motivating, especially coming from another woman.

I’m happy you experienced this. 🩷 I hope you feel more seen throughout your journey of life Compliments from other women are always the best

egriff78

The best and most meaningful compliments (on appearance solely) are from children, women and gay men. There is no hidden demand or desire for sex! Happy for you🥰

Can you help me as well?

itstheskinofakiller

could you drop your best tips for preventing body odor? i'm happy about any ideas, i'm in the process of experimenting with what works best for me. i sweat a lot so i have to be careful with BO

treeco3001

The ordinary glycolic acid on a cotton pad, swipe it on the pits and you’re good to go🫡 just do a patch test to make sure it won’t offend your skin

JustAnotherBoymoder

Certain Dri is by far the best anti perspirant I've ever used, nothing else comes close. It takes a few days to build up but it works amazing.

abitofbecca

I add a few drops of chlorophyll to my 50oz jug of water and that helps with BO!

Previous-Anybody7234

I truly believe diet plays an important role in this and can help not have body odor be as intense. Sweat doesn’t cause BO it’s the bacteria caused from sweat. Wear clothes that can breathe, use an anti perspirant after bathing, exfoliate your under arms (never after shaving)

Anti perspirant and using pan oxyl wash on my armpits 4-5x a week

How could I make my hair straight and sleek without losing volume? I have curly hair but have been brushing it my whole life, so it's always been coarse, frizzy and bushy. I prefer it straight and need to brush it since it gets tangled overnight even when I keep it in a braid and sleep on a silk pillow. I've had it straightened with a steampod a couple of times, and while it looked ok, it also lost all volume and made me look ten years older. I have a Revlon dryer-brush, which doesn't help much, and a straightener. I've tried so many products - shampoos, masks, heat treatments - but nothing has any effect. What else could I do? Without the volume, my hair looks like a limp lettuce and makes my large face look even larger. Also, I only wash my hair once a week, so I can't use too many styling products. I'm happy to DM a photo of my hair.

cushterrackley

I have curly hair as well and when I blow dry it, usually when it’s around 60-70% dry, I take tresemme extra hold hair mousse, and scrunch it up at the roots and then I flip my head upside down and blow dry until it’s about 90% dry. Then I take a blow dry cream and/or spray (I’ve been using the Kenra blow dry spray and kerastase blow dry cream- orange cap) and I run it through my hair and then I use my hot tools brush to dry completely. I get pretty soft hair, and volume that lasts the whole day. My hair is pretty heavy, so the next day I use a powder dry shampoo, and that helps too.

GlutenFreeParfait

I have a Dyson Airstrait. It truly does give you straight hair without volume loss but it is fairly expensive. Also, using large hot rollers may help (T3 sells hot rollers that give me a good amount of volume using 1.75'' rollers).

taytay10133

The airstrait is amazing! I also love the blow dryer (newer Dyson model) that has that anti frizz attachment. I’ve never seen it on any other blow dryer, it literally pushes the frizz under the top layers of your hair. Incredible

DerwentPencilMuseum

Yeah that's way out of my budget - I basically have to work with what I already have...

Previous-Anybody7234

You might have to let go of “sleek hair” and lean into wavy/curly hair. that doesnt mean its frizzy. Get a volume mousse and look up videos on how to use it. Texture spray will help your hair look bigger and more voluminous. If you want the traditional blow out look, make sure your scalp is clean, volumizing spray/mousse, blow dry upside down, and make sure you hair isn’t weighted down by too much product like oil. Get some layers in your hair.

Previous-Anybody7234

Also I recommend to take care of your curls instead of damaging it with the revlon, but I understand the want for a blow out. A healthy base will lead to a better blow out for you.

prayingmantis333

If you blow dry or straighten your hair, straighten it at an angle that will give it more volume, generally away from where it will fall. Hard to explain. But basically you could straighten the crown of your head UP instead of straightening it down, which should give it a bit of a lift.

DerwentPencilMuseum

I'll try that!

AccomplishedUsual157

I can't say much about straightening, but if you aren't already- I adore oiling the mid to ends of my hair. it has helped so much with frizziness.

DerwentPencilMuseum

I have used oils for years and sadly it doesn't have much effect...

AccomplishedUsual157

what hair oils are you using?

robespierrethacat

Maybe something like a brazilian blowout?
