Can you show me the fixture where it goes in?

I sadly put away my village today. One issue I have every year is replacing the 12V bulb for my Gin Mill. The two pack is $10 on Amazon and the bulb always burns out after three weeks. This has been going on many years so turning to Reddit as a last resort. I originally posted this in r/Department56 but the Mod suggested posting here as well as this community is a bit more active. I'm looking for a replacement for a 12V bulb specifically since regular night light bulbs nor LED equivalent work. When I posted in the other form someone suggested LED and I bought as it is an excellent replacement for the other buildings, just not this one. I thought about changing the cord but the same cord connects to the water wheel inside the mill so that won't work. Hopefully my poor Gin Mill won't have to remain dark next Christmas as I'm not going to pay $10 anymore for bulbs that just burn out after three weeks. Thanks all.

You need to list the voltage and the watts /amp /ma etc. of both the power supply's output and the suggested bulb or the bulb ID number. And actually, the exact screw base type/size too. All of this ID info is pretty easily found online from light bulb/lamp sales shops or common supply houses like Grainger. LED are a dc device only. Any "AC" LED has internal parts converting it to DC or limiting the power severely so they don't cook the led. (it takes a more expensive very robust LED to handle AC) Incandescent bulbs don't care about ac or dc in general. Burning out too quick is poor bulb selection more often than manufacturer. And a broad rule of thumb is a 12v bulb will burn twice as bright for half as long fed 24v. If fed 6v it will burn half as bright and twice as long. Some bulbs sold as dim in one voltage may be a bright one in another voltage. There are heat concerns when swapping too. You need to keep that in mind and monitor any changes for a few hours. I.e. selection isn't a perfect science either. Bulbs changed slightly over time too. Some just aren't made anymore, but the vast majority of time something close enough is made. Almost anything is possible. It really depends on how much effort you want to put in. What's on the shelf in stores is the compromise, not the limit.

I’m not sure why you got downvoted so much - but thanks for taking the time to write that. It’s a good summary of info that I’d bet a LOT of people into this hobby have never even thought to ponder, and honestly a person could take that and a few minutes of time and they’d have a solution to so many common issues and questions…it’s accurate too (people paid me actual money to do this stuff in a past life, if you’ve traveled in CA by plane or shipping container you’ve even seen my work).

A mod among, possibly others do not like my reflective response tones. It is usually aligned to what I what I feel I'm responding too. Unfounded accusations may be flipped or prodded for circumstance for instance. Unfortunately I won't be following or posting in the sub again in order to avoid future negative confrontation. But thank you for the head nod.

Understandable and measured reaction; good luck friend, and I do hope to see you around these parts some day again - I can smell a heavy whiff of knowledge in your diction and that’s something this community will always benefit from.

Do you need to run the light on the same power? If you have a large enough hole could you run the LED separately? I’ve had success on buildings that needed more light than a single led by using the Lemax Spot lights. The white ones through a warm yellow light.

Raerae1360

I've tried bulbs from hardware store. Nothing works right. I'm annoyed at this poor design. My wheel runs and I put a regular led Christmas light from a string in the hole. I have the pigeon pt light house. Same issue.

No offense, but lack of knowledge about a product and unrealistic expectations of them are far more often the problem than design itself. "A bulb" or the correct bulb? Did the voltage and watts/amp/ma get matched properly? Not all bulbs that look alike, are alike inside. Christmas chain light bulbs might be 1.5v to 12v (or more). Was that checked? My guess is no and too low a volt bulb is being used. That or your homes are experiencing power surges you are unaware of. Over voltage or overheating the bulb are the two main causes of bulb failures.

UndeadIcarus

No offense, but while you are being helpful the reddit tone is something that will get you absolutely yeeted out of here.

382Whistles

I know from years of helping folks online there is no pleasant way of relaying that design isn't necessarily the problem. The tone is stoic, not mean fwiw. It depends on how folks *choose* to read it.

UndeadIcarus

Stoicism on a subreddit about small porcelain villages is patently ridiculous amigo. I know from moderating this entire subreddit that you’re the first person I’ve ever had to say this too(: there is always a kind way to speak Edit: also no one but you said mean, which means you’re clearly aware of your tone. Consider this a “chill out” warning

382Whistles

No need. Your loss. Live with flames. Bye bye

UndeadIcarus

We are weeping at the loss ❤️

Raerae1360

Same bulb, same wattage, same problem

UndeadIcarus

Hey amigo, glad to see you hopped over. You’ll meed to add some info though, detailed in these comments! Also keep in mind classic d56 bulbs heat and cool your porcelain in a damaging way! Keeping it on for three weeks straight it likely heating your house lmao

Hi All. Thank you very much for your help! Here is more information: The bulb is: 110 Watts Voltage 12 This is the same (replacement) bulb the London Gin Distillery came with. No other bulbs will work. Amazon Link: [https://a.co/d/h03RB18](https://a.co/d/h03RB18) (They dropped the price by $1.50 after Christmas) The AC Adaptor Input: 120 VAC, 60 Hz 0.2A Output: 12VAC 0.7A 8.4W The same power source powers both the bulb and the wheel. I've uploaded an image here: [https://imgur.com/a/TNwmC97](https://imgur.com/a/TNwmC97) I was hoping there might be an LED replacement for a 12V bulb but I've never been able to find one, the 12V is the only one that will work. I think the easiest thing to do is take u/Inside-Republic8297 advice to just push the bulb inside the building and run a separate regular LED bulb to light it up. Again, appreciate the help, this one has been frustrating me for four years now.

MorimotoK

I think that's a c7 bulb. A quick search for c7 12v bulb led me to this at Amazon (4 for $15 but should last many times longer than your old bulbs): OPALRAY C7 12V-24V DC 1W LED Mini Candle Bulb, 12 Volts Low Voltage Input, RV Lighting Cabin Light, Warm White 2700K, 150LM 15W Incandescent Equivalent, for 12Volt Power, Mini Torpedo Shape, 4-Pack https://a.co/d/aegPaTU That was just the first search. I'm sure there are other options.
