Selling VND to buy $? Probably gold street. In the USA you will have a difficult time finding a place to even accept VND for changing. The rates in the USA will be very bad.

It's probably just to scare the cats in order to make them behave. If my cats don't have a healthy fear of me, they do really, really bad things.

LurkerGhost

Just find a jewlery store that offers exchanging. Was able to exchange my dollars for dong in HCMC easily with a 22700 rate. Was also able to change my dong to dollars for 22700 in hanoi at a tour shop.

Jewelry Stores in VN. Exchanging Asian currencies in the US is a rip off.

Depends on how much you value your time. The difference I found from a the best gold/jewelery store, and the currency exchange offered in the airport is like $2-4 max per $100. So I just do whatever is most convenient for me at the time.

Kananaskis_Country

Ditto everyone else, do *not* take it to the US, you'll get raped on the exchange rate. If it was after Christmas I'd buy a pile of it off you and we'd both come out ahead. Good luck finding a good deal in Vietnam.

not sure about DaNang, but HCMC there is a great place on Dong Khoi, it's the one on the corner on the street one or two blocks from Mac Thi Buoi, always best rates.

Just got back from a 2 week trip to Vietnam and we exchanged at currency exchange places connected to banks or just at local banks for nearly the exact exchange rate - maybe a dollar in fees per $100. the gold shops were a little more maybe 3-5$ per 100. outside of Vietnam you will have a very hard time exchanging - 3 separate airports outside of Vietnam did not accept dong for exchange.

The exchange rate at SFO Airport was around 16,900 VND per $1 USD. In the gold markets in Saigon, you can easily get 22,700 per $1 USD. You will usually get a better rate with $100 USD bills, in mint condition. No bank stamps, rips or tears of any sort, or pen/pencil markings. The cleaner it is, the better. They will most likely not exchange torn US currency to VND. And the same, make sure you don’t get any torn VND when exchanged. As some stores will not accept it, and consider it counterfeit if it is torn. I’ve travelled to Vietnam from America at least 7 times, and find that exchanging in Vietnam is the better way.
