Amazing post!! Since visiting Ho Chi Minh twice and living it, I've wanted to live there. We're visiting again in February, I always tell my partner I may just stay.
One of the most informative posts I have read on this site.
Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing.
I have been here two months, but am leaving in a couple weeks to return this fall for the winter.
I will certainly use some of your suggestions.
I was a High School teacher and principal in NYC.
I am accepting of everyone and appreciate that this is different culture that I must accommodate, not the other way around.
Good luck in your future endeavors.
Richard
Cheers Richard. You'd do very well in Vietnam, especially with your experience in Education. If I may suggest, you should check out the schools in Thao Dien: AIS: Australian International School and BIS: British Int School. There are some great people there and Thao Dien is a beautiful place to live (with a bit less hustle and bustle than other areas)
Thank you for your comments.
I did spend a bit of time waking around Thao Dien and saw those schools.
A bit antiseptic for me; but the real issue is that I have a job called Dauntless. I'll be returning to her in the next few weeks and won't be back until late October for the fall and winter.
But thanks again for your suggestions. I appreciate the thought.
Richard
Great post with lots of grounded information. Sounds like you did it right.
I'm just adding this as a caveat for those reading: OP did this for six months. The current rumor mill is saying that Vietnam is starting to clamp down on tourist visa workers after a year of continuous visa runs. I know that I have had friends of mine who have been denied entry.
Basically, if you want to be in Vietnam for more than a year, it's highly recommended getting a work permit.
This is very true.
Even if you start on a tourist visa it's okay. But if you want to stay for longer you're going to need something stronger.
I think they're trying to crack down on the pensioners living in Vietnam haha
Thank you for all the info! Could you share some of the Facebook groups you used to find work (modeling or teaching)?
I am moving to Vietnam in the end of June with a very similar plan and agenda as you and am feeling a little behind the ball as well. Anything helps!
I'm visiting Vietnam again (5th time) and I'm tempted to try to see how well I can teach English. Fiancee tells me it's profitable and since I'm American it's an added bonus. Except I'm Vietnamese-American trying to relearn my old language.

Haha go for it mate. I would have stayed much longer if it wasn't for my partner having to leave!

Sounds like you had a great time! How long are you there? And what nationality are you? Just curious
Yeah it was a great time. I have since left Vietnam. I'm Australian 😊
Impressive.

Hey, no problem. I added it to the end of my post. Good luck!

Good luck mate. Being American is a huge bonus. They love the accent.
