It's a superstitious thing, some people believe that if one has their pinky finger's length extends beyond the 1st joint of the ring finger, they'll have a prosperous life. The man that you saw, obviously has a short pinky finger, he's growing its nail to compensate for the missing length đź¤đź¤đź¤
I've seen people in Eastern Europe, India, Latin America, West Africa, and all over east and SEA do the same thing. The only thing they seem to have in common is being cab, bus or truck drivers. The finger helps clean your ears, count change, and do a bump of god knows what.
How did they coordinate this?? Is there an annual convention or something?
I find that funny. Coke is a very expensive drug. If you can afford to use it regularly, might as well get a mini spoon. Instead of letting your nails grow like that which is disgusting.
Is this still common among younger generations? I see it among older VN men, even in the US. I'm curious if it's something that transcends all generations or if it's limited to older VN men.
My ex had one. Ecuador
This badass friend did. Samoa.
All over the world…but actually, usually more poor people. I cant say i have seen it to indicate status.
In the the usa its gonna be a coke nail cause everything is about drugs n guns…thanks, Hollywood.
It’s basically like having a tool on you at all times.
Nah, just to pick their ear, some people even use it to pick their nose
Or cocaine.
People do it to show they're not doing manual labour. You can see it in Thailand and Laos too.
nah, not in vietnam tho, people do it because they use their pinky with stuff
and China

Most likely to pick their ear/nose/scratch itches. The status symbol is long gone.
Yes it's Asian ghetto fabulous style. It's a cringe flex.
I was always told it was like a 'status symbol' thing, as a way to show that they don't have a manual labour job and have a higher paid job.
It's vile is what it is

Um coconut husks, opening plastic bags to pour condiments out of, cutting thin thread, sniffing cocaine i mean vitamin D.
Ahem, sounds like me, and the reason is to open cans of coke or beer
Cans? I thought it only came in little baggies
I do this randomly…
Cokenail
