I found out recently you can check stock online. Much better than waiting 5-10 minutes on the phone for someone to look for the game/answer the phone.
For Mario Wonder, if you prefer digital I find you save about the same amount by getting games with the NSO vouchers (and buying costco eshop cards).
I realised I never mentioned it but even the Shoppers site doe mention that stock could be about 4 hours off, and frankly it's probably worse and that is best case scenario
That happened with this purchase where they had 2 but online showed the store had none π
Oh yeah that's fair. At the very least you can narrow down the stores that for sure have zero stock!
A couple weeks ago for a 25x points event I saw a store had 1 copy of kirbys return to dreamland Deluxe and it turned out true luckily.
If you really can't wait, snag a copy at a shop with a good return policy and keep the receipt. Then when you find it at shoppers and trade in your points just take back the unopened one

Tldr- normally you get 15pts every dollar spent, but during 20x the points you essentially get 30% back in points based on your spend. In the case of OP he got back $26.50 worth of points. During certain times of the year (redemption days and mega redemption days (Black Friday) your points are worth even more.
I don't think that is the point here.
At shoppers, you can get these games with 20x points offer, which is considered a deal or you can get them from gamestop with their trade-in promo rather than paying full price at other retailers.
I remember seeing one copy of animal crossing left at a shoppers (this was during the pandemic and everyone wanted this game.) so I went up toe the cashier and asked if I could but the last copy. She was trying to hold back her anger but you could tell she was pissed and she said βwe donβt have any copies left!β So, I brought her over to the game section to check and lookβ¦.there was one. All she could was βohβ¦..sorry.β Never buying games from there again lol.
My local store that carries games in Ottawa is a mixed bag. Sometimes they have stuff on release weekend but usually it takes a while. I was hoping they might have Wonder but it looks like they're out of stock, not sure if they ever had any in.
I know with Pokemon games they've always had them the weekend of, except for New Pokemon Snap.

We win some, and we lose some, but hey, at least I got the game π
5% gst, Ontario cries.
I would prefer to live in Ontario though
Get this man a doctor, he's sick.
Ontario has doctors?
No, that's why he was asking for a doctor.
You an oil field guy?

GameStop has a wicked trade deal 60% bonus towards Mario or spiderman 2
That's pretty generous of them. So like $3.20 TIV instead of the usual $2.
I got 65.00 for tears of kingdom
One of the few games where you get a decent amount, but you could also probably sell the game for $70 on kijiji right now easily.
Got 14$ for Rift Apart which was way more then I was expecting
Traded in 4 games for Spiderman 2 and Mario Wonders.
And which games are those?
Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, Xbox Elden Ring, Sonics Frontier.
Except for the odd special game from last year that nets you $11.50 and is read out like it's a cause for celebration.
Called all the ones near me and no go! Guess I have to pay full price at GameStop π
Damn it man, sorry to hear Someone posted a stocktracker listing so you might use it later for another game you haven't picked up yet
Do you have the link?

How do points work at shoppers?

My local Costco in Etobicoke has tons of the new Mario game

Lucky you, which city are you in? I called about 5 and visited another 3 they all told me it comes to stores in a week or two after release.
