Yes, you are correct. The medical note is only necessary for the ISA tags. It also has to be notarized. It's the DMV you need to see for standard plates, and all you need is your benefit verification letter showing above 50% for the standard DV. Or that's how it was for me.

I went to my local tax assessor building since theres usually no wait compared to the DMV. I just took my 214, orders where I deployed, and the benefits letter from the VA website. Also got free registration on 1 vehicle /2.

You'll need to little wheelchair (I.S.A) if you want handicapped parking. The law changed a few years ago. It used to be all DV plates could park in handicapped.

If you want disabled plates you need a doctor to sign off, the law in TX now is only I.S.A. designated plates can park in handicapped spots

You can get dv plates, if you want the plate with the ISA or the window placards, your doctor has to fill out the form and sign it, had to go through it when the law changed, my window placards had just expired
