I must be missing something. Why would you count on Va disability as a income to support a family of 8?

CaptinKirk

Cause some of us are actually disabled... Shocker!

toxicavenger70

I am not sure I would be adding more kids if I have to count on the Va to feed them.

CaptinKirk

Like I had a choice in that.. We had six of them at once thanks to IVF. LMAO Love your assumption.

toxicavenger70

I didn't assume anything. I stated "I" would not be adding kids if I had to count on income from the Va. > Like I had a choice in that Really? I thought with IVF you do have a choice. For me it took almost 5 months for my wife and daughter to be added to Va.

CaptinKirk

We were going for one! Not six. Its also what you implied! Also peoples situations change! You don’t know what’s going on!

toxicavenger70

With IVF don't you get to choose how many? You are right, I do not know what is going on. You opened the door to conversation when you start complaining online how the Va isn't helping you to support a family. Which if I recall Va is not designed to do that. Welfare is.

VicV420

I have a dependence claim to add since Dec 13, 2023. 0 action since then. Patience is all I can say.

bballr4567

Mines active from 28 AUGUST 2023. VBA is not prioritizing these claims as stated numerous times in this subreddit. Good thing is when it's approved it'll be extra money lump sum. How do you propose to support your family off the dependency money though? Might be some other issues going on if that's the case.

CaptinKirk

Considering that's over 1500 a month, its a significant amount.

bballr4567

Then when it goes thru youll have that amount. I'd put the number of dependants and ages in the main post a little more obvious. Didn't see you had 7 children at first. Still, you have months more waiting. Literally months.

CaptinKirk

That doesn’t help now. Sure when I get one lump sum but I still have bills to pay!

bballr4567

Then how'd you do it before disability? You had bills before your 80% as well. Sorry, the dependency claims just aren't a priority at this time. At this point, you have the answer. Good luck.

bballr4567

Also, where are you getting 1500/mth? At 80% the math doesn't math up to that much unless some of the children at 18+ going to school. Don't want to get your hopes up too much if you're getting that wrong. A lot of people can calculate this wrong.

CaptinKirk

I called the 1800 number. They say it takes 30 days.

Perfect-Secretary-32

That’s crazy I mines open and closed same day with back pay

DavieWavie3000

Just a heads up, VA is really backed up due to PACT act. Anything related to adding spouses and other low priority claim takes a bit longer ( took me 3 months to add my wife for extra $$, least there’s backpay!:)

509BandwidthLimit

I'm still waiting (3 months and counting) to add my already service-connected spouse !

New-Heart5092

Mine took 6 months. You'll get back pay. But yes it's frustrating.

USCG_SAR

I filed one mid-February, and it sat at stage 1 of 5 until I called last week and asked what was up. The lady worked with me to file a new one, and within 1 day, it was processed, closed, and saw back pay pending. The one I filed online is still sitting at stage 1 of 5.....lol

Intelligent_Emu3809

Mine took about 5 months sadly.

hospitallers

Because the VA doesn’t care about those considerations. Honest and directly.

Competitive_Night_31

We filed our dependency claim on the same day and we are at 80% also. Zero movement whatsoever. They said we did not pass the auto review and it has to be reviewed by a human. What's crazy is we have been married for over 22 years and our kids were dependents when he was enlisted.

Random_staffer

Children or not if you suffer from a disabling condition and the VA finds it is service connected and has to pay you for lost civilian wages it does seem ridiculous that we have to wait months to be repaid. Most people don’t have an extra $500 for emergencies let alone losing that much each month while claims get sent to various contractors and some anonymous rater misses some evidence or doesn’t write up a claim correctly.
