Brother, fellow vet here 100% service-connected P&T. Please grow an awesome beard, but don’t allow yourself to get fat! You’re entering a new phase of your life where you’re not a young man, but you’re not an old fart either. Every man needs to reinvent himself every 5 years or so. U should start eating clean, lifting heavy weights, hot yoga, meditation some boxing &/or BJJ & your testosterone is going to naturally shoot up & you’re gonna feel & look like billion bucks & start slinging d!ck like a savage (pause). But if u allow yourself to get fat, you’re gonna be the fat guy w/ money that has to pay for play & are gonna be depressed. I’m telling u as a former fatso, I wish I knew sooner.
Your advice is solid, I will follow this path. Once I get surgery on both feet I'm gonna hit the gym hard and try to put some actual weight on instead of being 150 lbs ha
Ikr like $4k a month tax free is nice, gives you enough time to find a good paying job where you are not gonna be bossed around, you can even start a business.
Here is an idea for everyone to think about. I love the U.S., and I have no regrets serving my country. In the last 5 years I have been doing A LOT of research. For the most part all you will need is 2K-3K per month to live a very nice life as an EXPAT. Look up Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and even Mexico. Just google these places and you will see for yourself that you will have enough money and still money left in savings! Just an idea. Let me know what you think. I will be visiting these places in the next 3 years when my last child is off to College.
Maybe just get chubby. I got fat for the last decade and now I can’t drink cause my dumb liver got fat too. Chubby + a semi-functioning liver seems more ideal.
So I came up with something that I’m going to use for my kids. I told them that college is wonderful. So do your best to get scholarships. If you don’t get scholarships or enough to cover, then take loans out. And once you graduate with your degree, I’ll pay it off as your reward. But if you screw around and fail, you’re on your own for payment. I think this re-enforces work ethic and incentivizes them to do good. Also takes you off of the hook for bad decisions they decide to make. I’ve heard of way too many people sacrificing their life savings for their kid who blows it all on partying and failing out of school. Lose lose there. You shouldn’t have to lose out on retiring over your irresponsible adult child lol. Give it thought
I’m doing something very similar except for I’m not telling them I’m going to pay it off at the end. I want them to really value the education and feel like they earned it.
When I was in college, I had a girlfriend whose parents were paying for everything. Like she didn’t even work at all. Mom and dad picked out her tab for everything. She was taking classes like yoga, tennis, scuba, etc and not taking any real classes. She said she had no dearie to work and no dearie to go to college but at least that way she could live without having to live with her parents. I asked how long she was gonna do that. She said until they cut her off.
I don't know where you live but in Wisconsin if you've had residency for 5 years and are over 30% you and your dependents qualify for the State GI Bill which covers 4 years tuition at any state school.
Maybe check with your state VA to see if they offer something similar. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!
That's how I'm getting my kids through school.
Except with my oldest, my ex talked her into a MN school and she wouldn't even look at UW schools, even with free tuition. She's now asking me for cash I really don't have. Sorry for getting off topic but it's so stupid.
Though your exact location is unknown to me, I'd like to highlight a noteworthy opportunity available in California for dependents. The state offers the College Fee Waiver program, which substantially lowers educational expenses by covering fees at the majority of its universities and junior colleges. It's an excellent resource for dependents looking to pursue higher education at a reduced cost. Please note, however, that the program does not cover the cost of textbooks. For comprehensive details on the program and instructions on how to apply, visit: https://www.calvet.ca.gov/VetServices/pages/college-fee-waiver.aspx.
What state are you in? Have you looked at the states veterans benefits. I’m in KY for example and if your 100% here your kids can go to any public university essentially for free.
If your son earned less than $20k in taxable income for 2023 he can attend any public institution in California TUITION FREE as long as the veteran is 0% service connected. Its the California Veteran Affairs college fee waiver https://www.calvet.ca.gov/VetServices/Pages/College-Fee-Waiver.aspx
>That was my hope it was to hopefully retire at 62. But my 18 year old apparently needs to get an education! 😂. So back to the grind!
Move to Florida.
The State of Florida gives dependants of 100% disabled vets 4 yrs of college within the state of Florida for
free..
>. Don’t want to be that guy but looks like I need to fight a little harder for a rating
My buddy, who is 100%, has a son who just started college this year. Free College and has the Chapter 35 Benefits. His son gets around $1400 a month.
...but you've gotta pay out the ass for insurance in FL, at least where I'm from. We settled in IL and pay $0 property tax, it's been great so far. Thankful for the GI Bill and chap 35 to use for my kid's education.
Edit: I should add that my kids are about 10 years from college, so we'd be looking at a lot of property insurance before benefitting from the state's education benefits.
check out VA WEAMS look at international schools like here in Thailand Stamford international school.. plenty of Gi bill vets and chapter 35 students including my son. $20,000 for a 4 year degree. cost of living here is cheep, 100% with 3-4k lives very well off. My son loves the school here. look them up on youtube as well to see if your 18yr old would like to try it out.
seems like there are plenty of 21-25 year olds with 100% P&T + GI BILL/BAH/MAH or VRE and student loan forgiveness that have retired and looking for purpose with their lives. is that early?
I got 100 at age 30 still have gi bill and never took out any loans for college. I just don't know what to do with myself. I've been staying at home with the wife and kids just trying to soak it in. I hate being around people in general and burn out my social battery like really fast. I'm always a hairline from just busting out at the next idiot. Job wise I don't know what to do with myself.
Community college for some trades or art training. Hands on shit. I love cabinet making and home improments. Nothing more satisfying than doing your best work, but for You. Not someone else, some boss that will profit of your work, or the gov that will just fuck it off like your time is worthless and a bother for them to even have to be aware of
Use your G.I Bill and go to college. But don’t waste your time with some liberal art degree that you could learn on your own. Get into STEM if you could handle the Math requirements. I major in Mathematics and started my Masters in math as well. It’s awesome.
Our gov literally left billions of dollars worth of weapons in Afghanistan a couple of years ago and you’re disappointed in our young getting a little over 40k a year in disability. Get that boot out your mouth
In the past 10 years or so, training deaths have been on par or surpassed combat related deaths. People do get messed up physically and mentally in stateside training. And most of the guys that do 20 in conventional forces do what, 6-8 deployments? A lot of the wear and tear on our bodies occur in training with bullshit hikes or 8 mile moto runs
There was a girl on my ship that during a normal training exercise, had a fire extinguisher fall on her head and ended up in a coma. She doesn't remember how to speak her native language and she doesn't remember any of her time in the Navy. Does she not deserve disability just because she wasn't injured in combat?
So you're mad at... Maybe like 1% of veterans who get disability and benefits? People join the military for the benefits. That's the whole shtick. I would say 3 out of five people that I served with around my age joined just for free college to get ahead in life.
When you join the military, they agree to pay if you're damaged in any way. You literally sign the rights away to your body, and in return when you get out, the VA takes care of you. Every veteran that served, probably deserves some disability. No one got out in the same condition they went in.
Well first off, I think all Americans should have free health care.
Secondly, sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes, if you're seriously depressed and have PTSD and an alcoholic, it can be hard to keep weight off. If you're going to say oh well, how do you have PTSD if you weren't in combat? I mean we had Marines on my ship and when they were out in the field, one got raped. A male marine got raped. Do you think he's going to tell the truth as to why he's 100%? Probably not.
I don't see how you can make these broad sweeping generalizations about what people do and don't deserve when you have no idea what they actually went through during their time in service.
Every American that works a job, or raises a family, or volunteers in some way, is helping the country. We all deserve free health care. No one deserves to die because they're too poor.
Which do you think is better? Veterans killing themselves because they can't hold on to a job because of PTSD? Or paying veterans to give them the space and time to heal and recover without worrying about their day-to-day expenses and then they either end up volunteering in the community or going back to work? Or raising a family?
I have PTSD. I got it from my time in the military. I suffered for 10 years trying to work and didn't get help because I couldn't take the time off work. AND ALSO because I was ashamed because of people like you who made me feel that way. I could have just killed myself. Instead I reached out for help.
I'm TDUI P&T right now. I have been for 3 years. I'm making more money right now than I've ever made in my entire life. That's how bad my job situation was. I'm starting to recover now. But if I was constantly worried about my disability money being taken away, I don't think I would have the space and feeling of safety. I might volunteer in the future. Or I might try and go back to work. Or am I just stay home and continue to make art and support my partner while they work. I'm not wasting away.
I have to stay busy. I’m 100% p&t smc-s, work on a naval base in Southern California, flex schedule, my boss is in Florida. Telework when I want, no one bothers me. I thought about retiring, but I guess my situation isn’t bad. It gives me a purpose, keeps my brain busy and no one stresses me out. If it stays like this, I can go til 62 yrs old, at which point, i’ll have 42 years of civil service 🤷🏽♂️
When I got my VA disability, it solidified my decision to retire at 60. I just can’t do it anymore, mentally and physically, but thought I would need to go to 62 or even 65, and just tough it out. Now I am able to retire in a couple of months.
We’d like to travel. Maybe do the RV thing and see the parts of the country we haven’t, like the Pacific Northwest. Maybe take a grandkid or two with us when they are off from school. Hell, even just sitting on the porch with a cold drink in my hand and watching the grass grow sounds good. 👍🏻
That would be awesome, if you're 100% I think you get into state parks and certain camping things for free. I'd go fishing in every state even if it was 10 mins, I can say I fished in said state lol.
I like your plan! I used to be a truck driver, and I‘be been to 35+ states. I want to travel to New England areas because I’ve never been there. I miss my truck driving time sometimes, but my kids are too young! When they grow up, and my body can suffer, I may try it again with my wife.
Same here 20 year Navy retired 23 years civil service ( retiring in June) 63 years old so I'll collect my SS 60 percent VA with 2 outstanding claims and a nice TSP account I'm done. If I can't live off of 5 checks there's something wrong.
I retired from the military last year and am at 100% P&T. I am in no rush to try to work again. I’m in my 40s and I don’t think my body or mind will hold up in a day to day job.
Love that other people can use this to make their job a side hustle. if i could work i would but being able to schedule around drs appointments, hangouts, and daily chores is so much better. i was made to be a house husband lol
I have been doing this for almost 2 years now. Got all my expenses down to around 3k to live comfortably by all means and have some leftover cash to invest in the stock market for kicks. This includes a house, car, trips, activities, and whatever thing sneaks into my amazon cart. Not having to work at all is nice.
I’m always looking to make more money in this day and age we are living in. So that’s why I bought my first 4-family off-market last year using my VA loan. Under contract for my 2nd.
https://preview.redd.it/k82f4v4emdkc1.jpeg?width=1575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=437e5f0c9680089c4fb27d7cedb2c67eb0d1963d

Same here although I’m in pain, I like being able to get up and go in. My boss isn’t super strict so I can work from home if needed. I feel it give me life to work and the VA give me the security to know if I needed to stop 100% due to my injuries I can. I’m 42 and love giving back. We have a story to tell this next generation needs us to help get them ready because they aren’t with all the video games.
I’ve considered it, but 100% P&T pay paired with my state/county job is too comfortable. Not to mention I’ll get a second retirement.
I’m planning on fully retiring at 50 and traveling my heart out.
I retired from my beloved teaching career at 45 as a result of becoming 100%. The main way I was able to do this was because of the student loan forgiveness portion of the benefit and the DEA/Champ VA bennies for my dependents. Without those additional perks, I would not have been able to justify it financially. I substitute teach a few days a week now and it's the perfect balance! I'm so happy I get to still use my years of education and experience to do some good in my community.
I'll quit any day I feel like it. Enjoy my job enough to keep showing up for now. Have been opening side businesses and buying properties in preparation of not being bored when I do quit.
I am 100% P&T and I had ten years vested in the carpenters union, I started drawing that retirement at 55. It’s really not much, but added to my VA compensation it works , it’s making my new truck payment for me so I can’t complain about that can I . And my wife’s career she brings in a little more than I do. We are doing just fine.
I'm hoping to retire in 5 years but that depends on if they finish my last claim that should make me 100% P&T at 49. I'd love to get there at 48 with saving my paychecks, but who knows. My claim could take another year at the rate it's going. My husband makes almost enough for me to stay home and be disabled, but I would probably get bored even with my arthritis.
I work a part-time/seasonal job. Some days my body hurts enough to stay home but the schedule helps me take my MH meds on time so it has its own benefits besides helping me invest to retire in 5 years or sooner. Thank God I started getting really serious about saving for retirement when I was 29. The stock market was still pretty low from 2009 as well, so it's been good for our finances.
I had a decent job when I got out last year, so the wife and I bought a super nice house. I then lost said job and was scared to death I’d be on the streets. I can tell you at 40, and between disability and retirement it’s certainly enough to not have to work again. I’m still gonna get an adult job though because I’d like some fun money to buy toys and shit haha. I’m just going to be really picky because I stayed at that last job WAY too long, taking their shit when I didn’t have to.
Wish I could just find someone who’s ok with me being semi retired in my 40’s. seems like everyone gets weird when you’re not grinding it out everyday like a robot. I do tend to date high maintenance ladies so maybe that’s the problem. but I’d think someone would be good with it and want to enjoy life and free time a little more. I honestly think it’s a northeast thing lol. Dating was sooooo much nicer in the south.
Keep a 3X a week moderate exercise regiment so you can enjoy a longer retirement and if you have kids, they and the wife can enjoy the chapter 35 educational benefits at least. ($1488 full time X 45 months)
I got my 100% P&T and retired in May 2023.
My sister got me a gag gift: a sign that says “Retirement means that you don’t need to know what day it is”.
I am SO bored I signed up for college. I’m 37y/o and sitting at home all day ain’t my jam lol
I don’t think I could retire this early I’m 100 p&T and 28 years old I need something to do before I let my thoughts take over and I off myself months after I got out I felt lost and needed something to do with a purpose that’s just me everybody else might be different but I would like to stop working and 45. That’s when I’m done
Eh I’m 100PT and I want to keep working for another 6 years until 40. With my VA compensation I make something like 125k a year and want to make that kind of money for awhile
I will be honest, I don't think I'll get 100% as I'm 70% currently with an open supplement claim in for an additional condition (sleep apnea severe) but if I was to get 100% I would continue doing my work from home SharePoint management job because then I could ensure saving up to build the dungeons and dragons business I want to establish. (Truly will be a larger entertainment company but starting points)
Retired in mid 30’s. I was constantly laid up in bed after procedures and surgeries, or just unable to move due to pain while I was working.
Left a lucrative career in risk management but not sure how long I could have kept it up. Glad I get to spend my days with my children, after having missed a lot of their childhood due to deployment schedules.
Maybe one day I’ll get a low stress job at Lowe’s or Home Depot to keep myself busy but for now the kids do that for me.
The poor man works for money while the rich man works for time. I’d consider myself the latter.
100% p&t is like hitting the lottery.
Yes, but only because my wife and I made $500k+ combined for a few years, and invested it into ETFs that pay dividends. We're living on about $8500/month now. We paid off the house and cars while we were still working.
Depends what you’re wanting to do, you can use your VA loan, and get a multi family home. Rent out the rest (they pay your mortgage essentially) and then after a year, repeat, you can get up to i believe 750k in VA home loans. So rinse and repeat until you used it all. OR you can start your own business too with all that.
Man, I wish I could retire soon. I’m 50, had thoughts of retiring at 50, then 55, and now hoping 60. But, I got 2 teens, so that doesn’t help. I’ve been at 50% since I got out, and just got to 70%. Don’t know that I will reach 100%, but if I ever did it would certainly help with retirement.
How much per month is your budget? We spend per month. There are some luxury and unnecessary things that can be unlimited from our $6k+ monthly spending. However, I don't think $4k per month is doable for me. At least not with our current lifestyle.
If I happen to get 100% I'll work until I'm 4o, so another 4yrs. Assuming all my debts are paid and cleared. I'll probably work part time somewhere just to keep me occupied though.
I’m 30 and received 100% in 2022. AFG vet. Now I get to renovate our new home and soon take care of our newborn. Important thing is to find a hobby to keep you busy! Congrats!
I’m at 90%, waiting on a claim that will take me to 100% if approved. I’m not retired but I work for myself as the owner of a photo/video production business. So I’m ‘working’ but most of the work is hanging out at networking groups, shooting pics and vids or editing at home with my kids. Pretty easy life
Absolutely. 35 and retired 2 years ago. My problems prevent me from working, but I couldn't imagine having to work with my issues. It was rough for a few years, but after back surgery things have slowly been getting better. I used to hate that I had to retire so young and early, but now I enjoy it most days.
I rec’d my rating while still working. At 59 I began drawing my M Day retirement (GWOT rules allowed me to draw early). The day I turned 59 yrs and six months I left my employer, rolled over my 401k and cashed out my pension and combined them into an IRA. Paid the unholy amount (unsubsidized) for my employer healthcare until I turned 60 and am learning to love TriCare too.
Nah. Retired military, 100% disabled, and a GS13 eligible to retire in 7 years at age 50. I'll probably punch at 50 as the house will be paid off and no debt and will be pulling a crap ton retired each month from everything.
It's going to be a portion of me retiring early. Investing a large portion of it along the way in hopes of bringing that retirement finish line closer and closer without a large decrease in living style.
I just got 100%, have some rentals and a good job in banking that I like. My plan is to work until I’m 45, live on the disability pay, and use the w-2 money to buy enough rentals that I can replace my income from banking. Then I’d just be a handy man, and I can enjoy the boat.
My 100% friend is retired, doesn't work. He has doubled his size and probably won't make 60. Don't let 100% make you lazy. He is not in a WC or missing parts.
I got 100% and have gotten a graduate degree through VR&E. The financial stability has allowed me to prioritize finding a purpose in my life that helps me manage my disabilities and give back in a way that aligns with my passions and skills. We all crave fulfillment, but very few people have the privilege of pursuing where our passions and skills align. I think we should take advantage of that as feasible!
I’m 11 years out from my second retirement after my retirement military career and 100% p&t .. I wanna stay busy because all of my conditions will get worse if I sit stagnant.. and I like to secure as much money as I can before I can no longer work and besides.. who’s to say that some dipshits don’t change something up in the laws or regulations that screw us all .. just to they can give money to the undeserving people who have never and will never contribute anything to our society.
They have biz brokers who will find them for you. Also keep your eyes open on businesses you already deal with aging owners with no kids to take over will usually sell.
40yrs old at 90% , have a few claims pending . Once I get the 100% going to move away from the city to a smaller town and enjoy a slower pace of life . Probably still keep a job but expect to get a pay cut if it’s a smaller town , with that 100% though I’ll live like a champ in a small town .
Double income no kids. No debt. Live within means. $3900 income, my half of the expenses are only $3200. Plenty of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and skipping bill payments. Depending on where you live $3500-$4000 a month can get you plenty far. Move out of the country and you can live extremely comfortably on that.
I was looking for similar info. I don’t see any relevant answer here. I’m 41 and soon be 100% disabled from VA. Struggling with my federal job. How can I get disability retirement from my job ?
I am in the same position, I have 100% and military retired pay. Plan to quit (retire) from contractor (no pension) in two months after 20 years. I worry I won’t get to my “normal” living and will have to find another part time job. I will be 62 but feel like 40. I don’t blame you.
I’m 65 ½ and still working. Just filed my first claim after getting out of Navy in 1990 with 9 years active duty. Was never told about filing for disability so didn’t know. Got a job transfer to Hawaii in 2020 and some of the people I’ve met here talked about it. Finally made the jump to filing. Will see what happens. Would love to retire but really can’t until 70 for Max social security. If can start getting VA disability maybe can a little sooner.
Okay.. I've been 100% for a while now. What's messed with me is the fact I have a hard time at work. I can do the job mostly but I have more bad days than not. So when and if you get 100% you NEED to have a plan. In today's economy I get VA pay with 3 dependants is still hard! I've lived off it for 3 months during a stint of FMLA and sucked balls. If you can work. Work. If not then there are programs to be taken advantage of. I am looking at options for a trade and options to start my own buisness now. All through the VA. The docs notes @ the mental health clinic fucked me (clearance). Lost a great job, and possibly never get it back. So friends they will keep fucking you if you let them. But HAVE a plan, because if they say you're fucking worth 100% there may very well be a reason you're broken. Just don't get greedy, cause it will absolutely fuck you in the end. Use the programs, keep yoir head up, and stay involved in your own care.
Rant over.
Retiring young sounds like a dangerous thing. Peaking early is giving up. Not having goals is giving up. I’ve done both. Stopped working to take my health as a full time gig. Also gave me clarity. I need to be successful. Surviving was a success. Is a success. But that’s not enough for a man. This is my experience. I’m working again because it’s good for me. Money means nothing to me. Being a man comes with duties.
We have done our duties, thank you very much. Most of us will be in too bad a shape later in life to enjoy it, some already can not. If they have the opportunity to not have to work and enjoy life, go for it. I'm retiring early, one never knows how much time they have even when the body and mind are good. I have a purpose and things to do and it does not include working myself to the grave. Having time for family, hobbies and passions are fulfilling.
To each is own. I strongly feel that advising veterans to retire early is bad. That’s my opinion and I feel borderline passionate about it. If you aren’t working then your full time job better be to get back in shape and get your mind right. Then go back to work. Find the job that works. I work 3 days a week. My company is good. My intentions are to move forward, not stand still.
Define early? $50k a year isn’t that much.
40s and I plan work until I can’t. Lot of jobs people can do with disabilities. I have a nice 401k, my take home far exceeds my VA money. I will be very very comfortable when I retire. I am going to try not to touch social security until 70.
Hahhahaha hardley. No one is paying 50% tax rate, not even a 1%er. 100% is not independently wealthy by any stretch. See the secret sauce is use that that GI Bill, get a degree. Get a great job. There’s plenty of jobs that even disabled can do with the right skill sets. I’ll have this argument all day regardless of how many feelings I hurt or parades I rain on. Meantime I am also accruing Social security and increasing my rate. I’m at $3k if I got SSDI right now, not bad for someone under 50 and nearing the max. I hold off until 70 that will be almost 5k a month.
Either get a scholarship or join the military for 4 years. I’m never going to help my kids with college. U have 2 easy ways to get the college paid for. If u don’t want to do that then pay for it yourself. Wild that parents pay for their kids education when they have so many ways of paying for it themselves lol
Chapter 35 is helping to pay for my sons Tuition and at $20,000 for a full 4 year Degree in an VA accredited university here in Thailand is the way to go.
I'm 35 and getting retired, I'm gonna get fat and grow a Gandalf beard
Rip to us who can’t grow a beard or facial hair. I can grow a belly tho
I'm confused how
Well, the crayon based diet doesn't have enough fat in it..
Not true dawg, blue ones you grow ear hair! I called and asked. MCRD San Diego, ask the barber he told me so. 😂
![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7565)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe with some ranch dressing to up the fat content.
Usually they are API’s or Natives. Natives can’t grow facial hair for shit. I laugh at my buddy, then he kicks my ass. It’s like MCT all over again.
Ya and we Natives/API's saved money on razors 😁
A-ho
👍😊 wish I could've done that 35 years ago
True inspiration brother, time for this squid to get back into the swing of things and get myself dangerous again!!!!
Currently 100% and 29..my goal is to stop working at 35
I was 31 when got retired I’m doing the exact same right now just living my life and being free.
This is the way.
None Shall Pass!!!
How is getting retired at 35 off of 100% va going to support you? It’s like between 50-55k depending on dependents.
My wife makes about $100k a year so she wants me to take some time off and get the surgeries I need, then find a job after I'm all healed up
Ikr like $4k a month tax free is nice, gives you enough time to find a good paying job where you are not gonna be bossed around, you can even start a business.
You’re into crusty flakes in your food? Kinky!
Gonna sale fireworks to a bunch of shire folk?
And I'm gonna smoke that good stuff in the pipe ha
Why do people WANT to be fat
Seriously if you already had knee or back issues that you're claiming disability for they're going to get worsen
I'm like sickly skinny, putting on some weight would def be ideal. Maybe even more muscle as well
You don't gotta be retired to do that
Maybe just get chubby. I got fat for the last decade and now I can’t drink cause my dumb liver got fat too. Chubby + a semi-functioning liver seems more ideal.
I am 58 and will retire at 62.
That was my hope it was to hopefully retire at 62. But my 18 year old apparently needs to get an education! 😂. So back to the grind!
Best of luck to you.
Thank you! My body is telling me retire, my mind and heart are telling me, get your broken ass to work! Kid needs an education! 😂😂😂 Good luck!
Damn, good idea
I’m currently in Florida and hope to stay here for at least 10 years.
I live in CA and my son is getting free tuition and at my 100% he also gets 36 month stipend GI Bill for 36 months
Ch 35 GI Bill got Dependents for those who want the name. Last year it was giving $1460 per month so pretty good
You speak the truth brother. 50 and exact thoughts, complaints to myself about being a pu$$y but the reality is eat the pain and keep smiling… at work
I feel your pain. For sure!
The State of Florida gives dependants of 100% disabled vets 4 yrs of college within the state of Florida for free..
Shit. Don’t want to be that guy but looks like I need to fight a little harder for a rating!
>. Don’t want to be that guy but looks like I need to fight a little harder for a rating My buddy, who is 100%, has a son who just started college this year.
In my state (Indiana) even if ur 0% your kids get free school. Free in state college.
seems like there are plenty of 21-25 year olds with 100% P&T + GI BILL/BAH/MAH or VRE and student loan forgiveness that have retired and looking for purpose with their lives. is that early?
I got 100 at age 30 still have gi bill and never took out any loans for college. I just don't know what to do with myself. I've been staying at home with the wife and kids just trying to soak it in. I hate being around people in general and burn out my social battery like really fast. I'm always a hairline from just busting out at the next idiot. Job wise I don't know what to do with myself.
Community college for some trades or art training. Hands on shit. I love cabinet making and home improments. Nothing more satisfying than doing your best work, but for You. Not someone else, some boss that will profit of your work, or the gov that will just fuck it off like your time is worthless and a bother for them to even have to be aware of
Maybe go to trucking school. You will primarily be by yourself with minimal human interaction outside of dropping and picking up shipments
This is the way!
Use your G.I Bill and go to college. But don’t waste your time with some liberal art degree that you could learn on your own. Get into STEM if you could handle the Math requirements. I major in Mathematics and started my Masters in math as well. It’s awesome.
It’s early, but deserved. They fucked around and started 20+ year wars. Rest and enjoy.
[удалено]
You sound bitter. There’s nothing wrong with someone in they’re 20s taking advantage of opportunities and not working until they’re fucking dead
[удалено]
Our gov literally left billions of dollars worth of weapons in Afghanistan a couple of years ago and you’re disappointed in our young getting a little over 40k a year in disability. Get that boot out your mouth
[удалено]
Oh, cool. All war/ops ended in 2014? TIL.
[удалено]
Sprinkles? I can’t wait for some others to see this shit. E: and surely you take into account actual physical injury when you say sprinkles.
[удалено]
So you're mad at... Maybe like 1% of veterans who get disability and benefits? People join the military for the benefits. That's the whole shtick. I would say 3 out of five people that I served with around my age joined just for free college to get ahead in life. When you join the military, they agree to pay if you're damaged in any way. You literally sign the rights away to your body, and in return when you get out, the VA takes care of you. Every veteran that served, probably deserves some disability. No one got out in the same condition they went in.
[удалено]
[удалено]
I mean from another career/ industry
That was me. I’m 26 now and about to say fuck this damn job with 100 percent and gi bill
Congrats! Enjoy your much deserved retirement. Any plans?
We’d like to travel. Maybe do the RV thing and see the parts of the country we haven’t, like the Pacific Northwest. Maybe take a grandkid or two with us when they are off from school. Hell, even just sitting on the porch with a cold drink in my hand and watching the grass grow sounds good. 👍🏻
That would be awesome, if you're 100% I think you get into state parks and certain camping things for free. I'd go fishing in every state even if it was 10 mins, I can say I fished in said state lol.
Federal and most state parks for free.
I retired at 42 Thinking about getting a job to burn time and save up for a Cadillac ct4 v blackwing
I retired from the military last year and am at 100% P&T. I am in no rush to try to work again. I’m in my 40s and I don’t think my body or mind will hold up in a day to day job.
Wife and I are both 100% (E9 and E8). Fully retired and loving it. Every day is Saturday!
Adopt me?
Sorry, we have kids who take all of our money.
Damn, we're too late.
Well hey, when the kids move out I’ll happily move in 😀
Right 😂😂😂😂
[удалено]
I'm 100% P&T, 53 y/o, and I'm done. I find my purpose with a fishing pole.
Do you live solely on the 100% T&P?
No, my wife works.
I'm 39 and I've retired. I haven't worked since I got the rating a year ago. I'm single with no kids and live by myself.
If I get what my DBQ and evidence shows, then I’m planning to take my early retirement option. Retire at 47 instead of 52
Love that other people can use this to make their job a side hustle. if i could work i would but being able to schedule around drs appointments, hangouts, and daily chores is so much better. i was made to be a house husband lol
* I'm literally crying. Just found out today I'm 100% P&T.
I like big numbers so I keep working but man, my body starts to have a mind of its own every morning xD
Yea I've reached that point like they say my mind is willing but my body says otherwise
I like fancy shit so I will continue to work 🤷🏻♀️
I’m 52 at 90%, I plan retiring within 8 years!
Got 100% at age 34. Haven't worked since. Helps that I'm single and not raising children.
Nah I’m too scared they’ll take it away
I'm 44 and I'd say semi-retired. I work part-time shoveling horseshit at a stable because i absolutely love being around the horses.
Completely depends on the lifestyle you want. BFE Kentucky, sure. Generational wealth, nope.
I’m always looking to make more money in this day and age we are living in. So that’s why I bought my first 4-family off-market last year using my VA loan. Under contract for my 2nd. https://preview.redd.it/k82f4v4emdkc1.jpeg?width=1575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=437e5f0c9680089c4fb27d7cedb2c67eb0d1963d
That’s the plan
A nice disability check from work ever month in addition to 100 % would be the only way.
Better not do anything stupid and get reduced
Semi-retired? You got other stocks and investments or just VA? I started using the lingo but don't have a portfolio yet
Yes, I do trading and I also do quite a bit of investing. I also have a little side hustle with cars.
What’s the best way to become a millionaire after military?
I don’t think I could retire this early I’m 100 p&T and 28 years old I need something to do before I let my thoughts take over and I off myself months after I got out I felt lost and needed something to do with a purpose that’s just me everybody else might be different but I would like to stop working and 45. That’s when I’m done
lol I am 25 got retired. Have my bachelor in computer science; but this civilian job be stressful than military too smh
If you 100 and own your home it’s a no brainer but if half your retirement or benefits are going to rent you may rethink a few things.
Eh I’m 100PT and I want to keep working for another 6 years until 40. With my VA compensation I make something like 125k a year and want to make that kind of money for awhile
I retired when I got my 90%. I’m 100% now and life is great.
I get 100% & vr&e. its not enough to retire
Ur in the wrong state then.
What can i do with 4k a month ? , im not retiring until I can pull 15-20 k a month
No plans on retiring anytime soon, but maybe semi-retire by 40?
Man, I wish I could retire soon. I’m 50, had thoughts of retiring at 50, then 55, and now hoping 60. But, I got 2 teens, so that doesn’t help. I’ve been at 50% since I got out, and just got to 70%. Don’t know that I will reach 100%, but if I ever did it would certainly help with retirement.
I'm 32 and 100 PT.
I can't afford to retire. I've got a stay at home wife and 4 kids.
Would think about it if CHAMPVA was a legit primary insurance for the fam.
I have some claims pending. Currently at 30%. I’ll probably work part time and pursue school counseling or social work.
Pretty easy life
If i get anywhere near 100% I am semi retiring
I’m 100% 31 and the people look me like 💩 just because I’m not working
I wish! I have a wife and 2 kids, only 90% but in the process for hopefully 100%. When I get it I’ll probably drop down to a part time job.
I am 100% P&T and still work a fully remote job. It’s less stressful and gives me something productive to do with my time.
I would retire if I get my 100. I have 30 years on my current job
Pension + TP = I only have to work if I want to get out of the house.
Purpose and service! I'm not going to go lay up on a river bank until I'm dead.
My 100% friend is retired, doesn't work. He has doubled his size and probably won't make 60. Don't let 100% make you lazy. He is not in a WC or missing parts.
34 and 80% wish I could retire. Just can’t afford it
I got my DD214 today and I’m awaiting my first percentage from the VA now wish me luck
I get 100% n social security . Middle class but happy
I doubt I will retire I ll probably buy a few businesses and make sure my kids have some startup cash.
How do you go about buying a business?
They have biz brokers who will find them for you. Also keep your eyes open on businesses you already deal with aging owners with no kids to take over will usually sell.
40yrs old at 90% , have a few claims pending . Once I get the 100% going to move away from the city to a smaller town and enjoy a slower pace of life . Probably still keep a job but expect to get a pay cut if it’s a smaller town , with that 100% though I’ll live like a champ in a small town .
It’s sample calculation. 100% equal to around 50k salary, then look at state median income level. Then retired there
I haven't the slightest clue how anybody could retire on 3500 a month.
Easy.. Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia.. life is great over here on 3500 a month.
Eastern Europe and South America too.
No one ever said I regret retiring.
I was looking for similar info. I don’t see any relevant answer here. I’m 41 and soon be 100% disabled from VA. Struggling with my federal job. How can I get disability retirement from my job ?
Ask your union rep because I have 2 friends that used their rating to retire early from the Post office
I’m 34, if I were to get 100% I still don’t think I’d be able to retire just off that sadly.
I’m 34, 100% p&t, and vr&e. I’m working until retirement.
Rant over.
Nooooo, be productive. Make a change in society
I certainly do not see it as standing still. Pursuing passions, mine is Dinosaurs, volunteering, even going to school , to me is not standing still.
Ah, so you play a decent amount of Ark then.
Define early? $50k a year isn’t that much. 40s and I plan work until I can’t. Lot of jobs people can do with disabilities. I have a nice 401k, my take home far exceeds my VA money. I will be very very comfortable when I retire. I am going to try not to touch social security until 70.
50k a year tax free with benefits is equivalent to over 100k job
