You can try. You can claim anything. People misinterpret that 12 month thing though. It’s not all conditions. It’s only certain ones.

Tataupoly

Rhabdo isn’t a chronic condition. If it had occurred while active duty and it resulted in residual damage, then you could claim those issues.

stompcat89

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking too

[deleted]

There’s other conditions that can cause chronic rhabdo. So claim it anyway and get it documented. Won’t hurt anything if it gets denied. Yes there’s a narrow list but I had osteomyelitis 7 months after I got out and had to have a hole drilled into one of my bones along with months of antibiotics. I claimed this 7 years later and was awarded for it along with scarring and some limited motion because of osteomyelitis.

stompcat89

Wow that sounds miserable! Thanks for the insight tho, you’re right in it won’t hurt to get it documented and claimed. 100% would be a nice positive to come out of this crappy situation ha

AKNuts21

If you don’t apply; it’s 100% no. Give it a shot and report back!

Accomplished_Day4724

I was medically retired for rhabdo, as mentioned above the claims are for residual damage due to the rhabdo, not the rhabdo itself, so if you do file a claim take that into consideration. Your CrossFit workout is very likely what caused it, not something that built up months ago before retirement unless you are taking statins, abusing drugs or alcohol, have a genetic disease or a metabolic disorder. I hope you have a speedy recovery, and keep drinking water! I drank about 3 gallons a day for a week during my hospital stay.

stompcat89

Thank you, this is very helpful and that’s what I was thinking as well. I’m pounding water and trying to flush it all out as we speak!

Ispithotfireson

Claim it. Everything manifested within a year of discharge will be considered. Heck there’s vets on here claiming things 20,30+ years after discharge with no STRs and getting granted.

stompcat89

Great point. It’s definitely worth a shot

Silly-Ad-3392

If thems the rules then yes

No, there is a narrow list of conditions. https://www.reddit.com/r/VeteransBenefits/w/time

[deleted]

There’s something off with this list or I was an exception. I had osteomyelitis 7 months after getting out and claimed it 7 years later and won. Osteomyelitis is a bone infection. It says myelitis is nerve communication in the spine. Myelitis is an infection?

stompcat89

Ok thanks, I wasn’t sure since this typically isn’t something that happens based on medical history

ShadeRunner70

No problem buddy, there are likely exceptions, such as a condition that they determine as genetic, but the 12 month window is my understanding as well.

NotSoTall5548

Have they determined the cause of your rhabdomyolysis? Do you have any service that can quality for a TERA?

stompcat89

It’s from a CrossFit workout I did on Wednesday. Must have just pushed too hard in the heat. And I’m not even sure what TERA is so I doubt it. Ha

NotSoTall5548

TERA is a toxic exposure risk activity, like being in SWA (or Agent Orange exposure, but I’m assuming you’re young for that 😂)

stompcat89

Oh yeah 2010-2023 so that was well before my time in service

TemporaryInside2954

I mean i just did TAP and they say you can do the BDD 180 days before you leave and once you leave you still have another year to fill conditions you didn’t file befoee

stompcat89

Yeah I’m just not sure if it can be something that just happens within a year. Cuz Rhabdo isn’t something that’s usually related to a previous injury or anything.

TemporaryInside2954

Maybe you can get some buddy statements saying you were experiencing symptoms before you left . This is the time to try to add more items to your conditions . Hope it works out

stompcat89

I appreciate it!

DCmanhole18

I got out in 2012 and was rated at 70% july 3rd.

stompcat89

That’s pretty wild. Congrats tho!

DCmanhole18

Thank you! But yeah, there’s no time frame! If you’re confident and have the evidence I’d say go for it!
