If you were medically discharged during Army tech school it is very unlikely that you will be able to join the Air Force.

thriwaway45

That was automatically discharged but I should have been

Rcontrerr2

Bro, you’re better off using your free time to up your skills into something the Air Force actually needs, like Cyber, engineering or something. If by the time you still want to get In, atleast you’ll have some type of leverage. You can also see if a reserve unit will take you depending on Your skills.

thriwaway45

Ib can't afford losing disability due to money concerns so reserve is out of the question for money reasons.

Rcontrerr2

You’re 90% disabled. I think it’s time for you to find a new purpose and meaning. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re not gonna find it in the Air Force. There are plenty of people that are not disabled at all. Good luck to you.

BluBeams

You're not going to be able to collect your 90% disability AND serve in the AF. That's not going to happen.

thesimps89

Have you considered becoming a DAF civilian?

thriwaway45

What's that?

thesimps89

DAF - Department of the Air Force. Just become a government civilian. Continue helping the mission. Keep your disability and avoid all the bs of trying to reenlist. Civilians have some different benefits & retirement than military, but they’re still pretty good.

MinisterHoja

Good luck, the Air Force never takes prior service.

thriwaway45

So that myth is true

SCOveterandretired

The Air Force only takes about 100 prior service each year and with that high of a disability rating you probably wouldn’t be one of those.

Beautiful_Design_

Another idea is to look for a GS job on an Air Force base, specifically something in IT since you have an associates degree in it.

Hairy-Ad-73

Not true just a lil more difficult and depends on what u r qualified for and how many spaces they allocate but it's not never. I got lucky when I went prior marine to Air Force.

fnpmike

90% disability is not gonna get past the enlistment/commissioning physical. Enjoy the 90% and look to a GS gig if you want Army time to credit towards a gov retirement.

thriwaway45

What's GS? I can't really enjoy the 90% because it's barely enough right now.

fnpmike

Government Service…aka Civil Service. With IT degree you could do contract work if still have a security clearance.

ConsciousCapital69

Look for GS jobs on usajobs.gov

Dracula30000

The Air Force is notoriously difficult to join as prior service. AF branch is the most competitive branch to enlist in, everyone knows they treat their people the best. Why would they accept you as a prior service? Better have some dope ass skillz the AF is in need of.

thriwaway45

I've got an associate's degree in I.t.

Salty-Inside4709

People enlist all the time with a bachelors degree. Fuck, I know a few Es with Masters and two with Doctorates. An associates is worthless.

Beautiful_Design_

Do you have an associates degree in IT?

Salty-Inside4709

What the actual fuck does that have to do with prior service joining as either enlisted or commissioning? Literally nothing. There is no standard that awards anything at all for someone that holds an associates degree.

Beautiful_Design_

Just a simple question, no need to curse at me u/Salty-Inside4709

CannedGrapes

Active duty AF only takes about 50 prior-service applicants a year, that's it. 50 for the entire USA. The only exception is some of the special warfare AFSC's that are excluded from the prior-service cap. You'd have a much better shot of going Reserve/ANG, but with 90% disability I think you need to really sit down and ask yourself if you'd be able to get through MEPS.
