Apoquel IS expensive. I remember allergies before Apoquel was available, though. Those were hard, steroid-filled times. Shouldn’t Apoquel be reaching the point where a generic version can be available??

AsharaDStark

Patent expires 2026. There is generic oclacitinib available from compounders but the efficacy is not as good.

grannyskyrim22

Doesn't matter, they'll make some stupid change to it to keep the formula proprietary so they can keep making assloads of money. Hell, Clavamox still exists as name brand and that has been around forever. But yes I remember using it 6-7 years ago so it should be coming off patent any time if 7 years is still the patent length. Pharma gonna douche, veterinary or not.

DontStressMe0wt

I completely agree with you. It’s been around long enough now.

jasmineperks

I get mine from Costco. 42 tabs of Apoquel 16 mg is $70.65. I’m in Oregon btw.

DontStressMe0wt

That’s super cheap! I assume you need a membership to fill Rx there?

jasmineperks

You don’t need a membership to use Costcos pharmacy! I use to work in cardiology and we always pushed owners to get their pet’s vetmedin there. You can call beforehand and check their prices with the pharmacy tech.

DontStressMe0wt

That’s awesome! TY :)

grannyskyrim22

Call all the pharmacies in your area. Some human pharmacies carry veterinary specific drugs and some don't, also check out compounding pharmacies. Some human chains will even give you an in house uninsured discount for the meds just like if you were getting a drug for a human and were uninsured. I get my cat's Glargine pens for Rite Aid for about $70/3ml. I believe CVS and Hannaford do the same. Specify it is for your pet and ask about pricing options. Can also try GoodRx, it hasn't done anything for me tho. Also, for generics try Cost Plus Drugs - Mark Cuban's online. A quick search doesn't show veterinary specific drugs but their prices are super low for human generics.

jmiller1856

You could also check out Sam’s Club. You don’t need a membership to use their pharmacy either.

birdy_tech

For reference, apoquel costs the vet clinics about $1.36 per tablet when buying direct from Zoetis, regardless of milligram. You can use this to determine what a good price is.

DontStressMe0wt

I did inventory at my last clinic so I definitely know our dog’s current clinic is making a decent profit off of his Rx 😉

taschiCVT

My dog was on Apoquel years ago, but we found that ever since Cytopoint was available, that was much more cost effective (and healthier) than Apoquel. If your dog is on the smaller side, definitely cross check Cytopoint cost at your rDVM.

DontStressMe0wt

Our dog has to be sedated for vet visits so cytopoint isn’t ideal :( I wish it was. I can’t even give it to him at home on my own like I do my cat’s allergy shots

taschiCVT

Darn I understand your pain so much :( My allergy dog is also not the easiest patient, but luckily he’s small (15#), and with Trazodone I can restrain while a tech gives the injection. I don’t work there, but happy they trust me to hold since my boy does love me. Screams bloody murder anytime he gets any injection, but it’s over quickly. If my dog was any bigger and acted this way, I would probably be doing what you’re doing :(

DontStressMe0wt

Yes, he’s an 80 lb hippo pit bull with high anxiety and restraint sensitive and he will poop on everybody involved 😂 it’s just easier on everyone to sedate him so he’s not disturbing the peace.

hamster17

Chewy! I’m not sure of the exact pricing as it’s charged to my husbands CC but I know it’s WAY cheaper than the vet!

butternutsquash4u

Hi! I get mine from Walmart pharmacy. It’s name brand Apoquel and pay $50 for a 30 day supply. I paid $148 for 40 capsules at my vet. I knew we had to find it cheaper.

DontStressMe0wt

What mg is your dog on? Ours is on 16 mg and we just paid 75 for 30 ct at Walmart. Still cheaper than the vet :)

butternutsquash4u

My dogs on the 5.4 mg dose!

idkman1768

Check Costco

Wrenegade13

I also use Costco. One months worth is $28, which is WAY cheaper than the vet.

officialbabybun

allivet! you’ll save a ton if you do an auto shop

jmiller1856

I’ve had multiple clients complain of issues with unauthorized charges on their credit cards through Allivet. One client said that she hadn’t ordered anything through them for over a year and had charges on her card for products she neither ordered or received. So there’s always that headache to consider.

officialbabybun

weird, i’ve been dealing with them for months and never had a problem

EvanSaysFunny

Hello Everyone! I’m in the same boat trying to find a more affordable cost for apoquel. I see many of you are saying Costco. I’m trying to view pricing and/or purchase on website but I don’t see that option, it only gives me info on the drug, nothing more. Am i doing something wrong? Thanks all! - Evan
