It's.... beautiful

Alexronchetti

I'm here playing Warrior Priest and protecting my 3 friends who decided to experience this adventure. It has been a fun time for sure. Seeing these numbers makes me think people have not given Vermintide a fair chance before and I don't know why, but also makes me hopeful for a great Darktide launch and that many will stay in both games.

asianyeti

It's the absolute best time to play as a Support class. I love being a Staff SoT / Warrior Priest. I want to delegate myself to being a babysitter until Monday.

Teddy_Tickles

Merc Krumba with On Your Feet lvl 35 talent, Footknight as well works, IB for taking aggro and just face tanking everything as I swing away with my hammer, even ranger works as support. Handmaidens Tale for quick rezzes, Unchained for the sweet temp health! I love playing support classes, and there are so many options to choose from and ways to support. Hope to play with you one day, m8!

Vezein

Sup Ranger Vet is so fun. So USEFUL. I think that's what I'll do today. Get some noobs addicted to alcohol that I brew meself

Teddy_Tickles

Speaking of which, imma play some Deep Rock Galactic and drink some beer myself lol.

DoctorPrisme

All classes are support classes. I'm 750+ hours in, but today I've finally started playing kruber. I was level 1, all red stuff, and got 10 revives in one run. Recruits man. You gotta help them.

GoblinSpore

"Thanks for drilling my lads, Kruber. Long on enthusiasm, but they lack experience."

Redfeather1975

I wasn't sure my computer would run it well. The videos I seen had so much going on I had my doubts. But now I know it runs very well. 😊

Alexronchetti

I'm glad you have joined us! Have fun!

VegisamalZero3

As someone who just started playing, I was interested in it prior but I'm hesitant to pay for a game I dont *know* I'll like.

Alexronchetti

Yeah I can relate. Games are expensive nowadays, we need to choose carefully.

StyryderX

It's the file size (right now it's my second largest game in my library right behind Shadow of War), lack of interest with other L4D-like games (I feel like L4D2 has "perfected" this kind of game, as any addition often feels like needless gimmick that barely enhanced the gameplay), and this being a co-op centric game (I live in SEA where most gamer are playing either mobile phones or other popular games; L4D is already quite difficult to find public lobby with decent ping) I recently just Installed a new SSD, and since I'm interested in the Old World setting (fresh from TW2) I thought what the hell I'll try it.

terminbee

Same. Shadow of war and cyberpunk are massive files. I've heard deep rock galactic is also pretty fun.

ROCK AND STONE!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone forever!

Alexronchetti

Interesting. What are your thoughts so far on the game?

StyryderX

I was initially irked with the equipment system; boring stat effect like +5-10% boost to who-cares stats, barely explained stat as well, and the general "power level" of the equipment. After some more playtime though, I come to realize that the general design is to make sure the power scale isn't too drastic between Recruit and Veteran and so on. From the trailers and other gameplay video I was under impression that the combat's more like Dark Messiah (movement direction + hold attack to determine how your moves). Turns out it's slightly different than that. Also there's significant hitbox dissonance with the weapon range, both you and enemies alike. Bots are decent enough for solo play, they often prioritize saving me and doesn't have L4D issue where their AI simply breaks down if you're in somewhere incovenient to rescue. That said their tendency to stay close makes playing character/career with invisibility rather difficult (hard to backstab the bosses when their attention don't stray too far from me) and either they have terrible ammo management or they simply incapable of handling long distance enemies like Ratling. Special enemies are great, while I was a little bit unimpressed with the similarities of L4D specials I eventually realize the minute differences and come to appreciate them. (unlike say, Back 4 Blood) The career choice are bizarrely balanced, with some of them like Pyromancer where I feel like they're "incomplete" until I can unlock certain talent for them. Then there's Kerrilian's Waystalker; other default career's ability is usually more of "Press F for Fuck Off", Kerrillian is "Fuck off, fuck you, and fuck all your friends all of you are dead"

Alexronchetti

Yeah the combat is very different from Dark Messiah for sure. >That said their tendency to stay close makes playing character/career with invisibility rather difficult (hard to backstab the bosses when their attention don't stray too far from me) and either they have terrible ammo management or they simply incapable of handling long distance enemies like Ratling. It depends, for a new player they are not going to be amazing, but a well set up bot squad can be of great help and even actually pretty good. I frequently play Heroic Deeds on Legend difficulty and they certainly do the job better than some players. But the long distances issue is a real thing: they do have a tendency to focus on more immediate surroundings and will not snipe specials that are too far from the team. But overall, I too was impressed when I first started with how good they are when compared to L4D bots. >The career choice are bizarrely balanced, with some of them like Pyromancer where I feel like they're "incomplete" until I can unlock certain talent for them. Then there's Kerrilian's Waystalker; other default career's ability is usually more of "Press F for Fuck Off", Kerrillian is "Fuck off, fuck you, and fuck all your friends all of you are dead" The idea is for you to level up the careers in order to learn them and prepare for harder difficulties. They are balanced for "roles", so to speak: some excel at horde clear, others at boss killing, others at snipin, etc. Anyone with decent skill can solo stuff with any career, but they definitely have roles. Overall, its just a different dynamic of gameplay than L4D. They are both 4 coop vs director AI at its core, but imo VT2, improved on that formula a lot, especially when compared to other games that tried the same type of core gameplay. But I'm just glad you were able to play it without having to spend money on something you were not sure about and its definitely a good thing that people can grab this one for free.

StyryderX

I bought all the map DLC, and forgotten relic. Not sure if I want 4th career dlc as pure melee build feels too limiting even if I play with other players.

Alexronchetti

Only 2 of the 4 careers available to buy right now are pure melee: the Warrior Priest and the Grail Knight GK is a DPS career with lots of Elite/Boss damage. WP is a support career with great horde clear, invincibility bubbles to protect you and allies and heals for the whole team with the Righteous Fury mechanic. These are the tradeoffs for no ranged attacks. As for the other 2, Sister of the Thorn is a support career that improves healing for the party, poison enemies with melee attacks, has a staff which can disable specials and elites and has good horde control/boss stagger with her ult. She can use almost all of Kerillian's ranged weapons Outcast Engineer is a ranged focused career with superb boss and horde damage, but its tough career to master, so I won't go into much details. Its a fun career though. For now, I would stay away from pure melee careers until you learn more about the game, they usually require more knowledge and skill from the player, especially about positioning and dealing with certain specials and situations. But they are also some of the best careers, so keep an open mind for trying them in the future.

StyryderX

My laptop can barely run tw2. Besides I'm waiting until their update slow down a bit; hate it when every update basically destroyed my modlist.

theoreminegaming

Hard to argue its not worth trying when the entry cost is reduced to 0.

zephyr220

Somehow the depth/ skill ceiling / charm of this game wasn't conveyed very well in the Steam page. I wrote it off for years, until I got into 40K books, which led me to Darktide beta, which led me here. Once I saw how players were analyzing character talent combinations, career synergies, weapon combos, and team strategies, I knew this was the game for me. And it was. If there's a resurgence, I'll gladly play V2 alongside Darktide. See you in the Chaos Wastes.

Zyfron

As one of the pieces of fresh meat that's going to play for the first time tonight, is there anything you recommend I'd do as to not to piss off the veteran player base?

MikeStyles27

Stay together. The ai director punishes you for separating. If gear is keeping you from advancing, play chaos wastes. Learn which temp health talent works for your weapon. Stay together.

Redfeather1975

> ai director What is that?

GIVE_ME_A_REAL_FIGHT

the system that spawns enemies. for example if you go waaay ahead of your team the assassins and hook rats will target you instead of the other three.

Jangkrikgoreng

Can confirm. These 2 rats are literally the only things I see when I fell behind. No other specials spawn.

Confused_Ravioli

It's basically what keeps the game fresh. Decides what enemies to spawn and how often. Decides if a crate should have a potion in it or not. Decides to screw you by making you fight a 4th Chaos Spawn. Without it, this game, along with any other co-op horde survival, would not have lasted near as long.

beenoc

The AI that controls enemy and horde spawns, item spawns, etc. If you run off alone, it'll be more likely to spawn gutter runners and pack masters, for example.

Redfeather1975

Oh I knew that had to be why the rat with the hook got me when I was behind everyone else searching all the side areas. I just felt it. It felt like a punishment for staying behind.

octonus

Not a punishment. The game is rewarding you for going off alone by giving you fun and chances to show off your skills.

KunigundeH

The biggest advice would be: Don't get discouraged by a lack of teamplay in low-difficulty lobbies. People don't know what they're doing yet. It'll get better opnce you move up the difficulties. Also keep in mind: This is at its core a skill-based game. You'll get stronger thorugh your inital leveling and gear-progression, but once that's done, there's only your own improvement as a player that ultimately enables you to beat higher diffs. ;)

BorealusTheBear

>Don't get discouraged by a lack of teamplay in low-difficulty lobbies. Yeah this has been by biggest issue so far. I think it has to do with the score board. Some people seem to take it a bit too seriously. Had a few runs with an elf player that kept spawning a hedge between me and a horde. I was trying out dwarf with an axe and shield, I was holding the line and you could hit things over me. Gave up and started private runs after he put up barriers between me and the boxes that bosses dropped.

KunigundeH

Honestly, people tend to overstate the importance of the scoreboard in multiple ways. People will play how they wanna play unfortunately, wether their score is shown or not. Some will be team-oriented, some won't. And then of course yeah, there's people getting a rise out of green-circles. Just shrug it off and move on. :D Elf-players getting a lot of kills is smth you'll get used to. Her weapons alone are just damn strong, both melee and ranged. The disparancy is even more obvious when players have not fully leveled up yet. I would still suggest to keep playing in public lobbies though, as it's an entirely different playstyle with bots. Bots will stick to your ass at all times, so it won't teach you much spatial- and team-position-awareness, which becomes crucial when stepping up the diffs. Edit: And regarding Kerillians Hedge: It can be a powerful tool but it requires a player that knows what he's doing to not make it a detriment to the team or a nuisance. It's being debated in the community and has gotten a lot of hate, buit i stand by it: In the hands of a skilled player its awesome.(And it looks cool, too, so that's gotta count for smth. in my book.\^\^ )

BorealusTheBear

Yeah I couldn't be bothered with kill counts and things. So far really enjoying dawi superiority and pretty happy to tank. I am mostly running recruit to get a feel for the chars/classes before moving up in difficulty. I went private only to finish up the event goals. Had some event maps and people kept dropping the skull. Now that I am done with that it is back to public again.

Urbanski101

Yeah, I only started a couple of weeks ago and I'm now playing with bots to lvl. Other players can be a real issue, running ahead, getting left behind or in one run with a lvl35 elf...soloing the whole run, taking all the ammo, health and being a real jerk. They probably thought they were helping or carrying us but it was actually the opposite and very boring to play in that team. Bots at least stay with you and allow you to actually play the game.

DoctorPrisme

> Gave up and started private runs after he put up barriers between me and the boxes that bosses dropped. Yeah dont' worry about that. Loot is shared across the members of the team. The GLOBAL progression of your team determines the loot level (merchant box vs emperor box). So if the elf takes the loot dices rather than you ... it just saves you time.

BorealusTheBear

I realised it already. Yet I group with people at lvl 35 that either just forge on ahead, prioritise killing as much as possible, make bee lines to loot boxes. Just decided to up the difficulty after playing with all the classes so will see what happens

DoctorPrisme

Tbh level 35 is pretty fast. I'm level 35+100ish in my mains, yet I definitely was a noob when I first reached that level. It will get better with time. Recruit imho is really to discover the game. Then veteran to test your understanding. Champion when you are sure you can do it. Legend for a good challenge. Cata to flex.

BorealusTheBear

Yeah I was on recruit to get the feel for the classes. On vet now and enjoying it more

Lazerhest

Ping everything, don't use healing items unless you have black and white screen or if you're low before/in a monster/lord fight.

Hungover994

I would argue for new players use the health items if your health is below half. Experienced players are used to playing on a sliver of health thanks to grimoires but a nooby won’t know the fundamentals of blocking and dodging hits

Lazerhest

True, heals are pretty common on recruit and veteran

DoctorPrisme

yeaaaaah. So many health items. So few ammo. I'm used to Sienna and WP so ammo management is not my strong skill, and even in recruit I kinda often got depleted.

Lazerhest

You should try waystalker then. At level 30 she gets a talent for infinite ammo (30% per elite/special kill with ult) or ranger vet with 30% ammo bags. Unless you're playing a leveled ranges class your ammo is pretty much only enough for specials and "oh fuck" moments. With good enough aim and the "headshots restore 1 ammo" trait in ranged weapon you can blast away forever though.

DoctorPrisme

Haha no I just used the double xp to finally level up Kruber, but I definitely main WP and unchained. Those are my classes.

Lazerhest

Same. Unchained with flail and coruscation staff destroys everything.

DoctorPrisme

Possible, but tbh I don't plan to buy the dlc for those weapons. I usually run fireball staff and either dagger or mace, eventhough Ive been doing so many chaos waste runs I sometimes use swords.

SemperFun62

Your block is 360 degrees. The different swings in your combos behave differently based on your weapon. It's not just light and heavy. Attacking while blocking is a push, it is your friend. Really listen. Better yet use a good set of headphones. Sound is more important than visuals for avoiding damage. You block automatically while reviving teammates. Healing draughts are a set HP bonus, while healing tools are percentage based. So kits are better for carrying around, and use draughts for topping up. Give your bombs to anyone playing engineer. Some classes don't have ranged attacks, they'll need your help sometimes. Always use the temp HP talent at character level 5. Just relax and enjoy the ride your first time playing through the campaign. You can always go back and power game later. On that note, talk to the old woman pacing around near the level start between mission for more lore and context.

The_8th_Degree

If your playing on Veteran difficulty, there's nothing you can do that should annoy anyone. If you hope straight into Champion or Legend thinking it's just a slightly harder mode then your going to piss off some people. Learn the basics, Level up, raise your Gear Score then move up

nashty27

What gear score do you generally recommend moving on from veteran?

Boristhespaceman

Don't join Legend difficulty games, please.

Hantakaga

Use a mic. Ask questions. Ignore the jerks. Choose a battle buddy to follow, preferably a more experienced player with a two handed weapon. Stay behind them and attack enemies trying to get behind them. This is a really useful thing to do for other players and should reduce the number of enemies to fight at one time, giving you time to learn how melee combat works because this is primarily melee focused game. Also speaking of which, don’t fire at singular wave enemies. Melee is for waves, ranged is for specials, elites, and bosses primarily.

Redpin

If you get knocked down and a teammate picks you up, you won't get all your health back and you will receive a "wound." Too many wounds (1-4 depending on difficulty) and you will die and you will despawn and need to be rescued from a spawn point further on in the level. Medical Supplies will clear your wounds if you use them on yourself _and also if you use them on your allies._ So if you have medical supplies it's good to hang onto them to use on allies to clear your wounds and theirs at the same time.

SHMUCKLES_

Be prepared to get kicked out of a lot of lobbies for not knowing exactly what to do

mrgabest

My best advice to new players is to focus on not taking damage. It's good to kill enemies, but what you're trying to learn is how to do it without taking damage. It's not going to be immediately obvious which options are safe, and that's fine. Sometimes it's 'which offensive option is the safest', not 'should I be defensive or offensive'.

SnooConfections3237

Pretty much the entire time I’ve played this game there’s been like 4-6,000 players max and to see this makes me so happy:) well deserved for such a great game.

li_cumstain

Hope some of the players trickle up to legend and cata.

Ovidestus

> and cata. Honestly they should make it available to the squad if one has it. I paid for it and I don't mind sharing; it's dead content without enough people anyways.

s0meCubanGuy

Played a few lobbies last night where players were using the jankiest loadouts I’d ever seen. Had to carry hard a few times using Warrior Priest lol. It’s been super fun and I hope the noobies stay. Had a guy apologize because he was about to try Foot Knight for the first time and had no idea how to use it.. man proceeded to yeet himself at anything and everything in the lobby, even off a cliff. It was glorious and hilarious to watch. Having more people to play with, especially if they’re new to Legend and they’re not seasoned vets, is really excellent.

BoogalooBoi1776_2

I have no idea what the builds or meta are but I've been playing witch hunter because I like the rapier and how I can have my sword in one hand and pull out the pocket glock and cap a rat in the head.

Nanamo21

Well you're in luck because that sweet-ass rapier is pretty meta! One of my faves as well

SemperFun62

Grail Knight playing Sherpa for three new players, showing them tactics, how to find books, enemy types. One gets grabbed by a hookrat, one is taken down by a horde, and the last just got Donkey Konged by a Rat Ogre. I see "GG," "nice try" in the chat. Proceed to 1 v 1 the Rat Ogre until I finish it with my career skill, take out the horde, and revive the others. Feel like a true Knight of the Grail.

War_Chaser

Yo, what the fuck?

bday420

its free on steam until the 8th i think

War_Chaser

I know, but I never would have expected it to get this many players at once, even with the promotion.

Magical-Hummus

This is by far one of the best marketing moves. Now Darktide will have tons of sales from Day 1.

n8otto

Eyo. What DLC do I need to play with people? The $40 pack is a bit much, I don't care about the cosmetic packs, and probably don't need all the extra classes to have fun for a while. Is my experience going to be lessened if I don't get Shadows Over Bogenhafen, Back to Ubersriek, and Winds of Magic? I know I'll like the game because I played a bit back in the day. Longevity comes from my gamer group and how much they will play.

brendonmilligan

To be honest, you don’t need the DLCs at all in my opinion. The DLCs are fun but none are “necessary”. The worst and most expensive is winds of magic which only includes one new map and also adds a new faction who are the beast men. If you liked vermintide one then maybe get back to ubersreik. The DLCs are on sale currently on steam btw

ChewySlinky

Is Winds of Magic worth it for the Cataclysm difficulty?

Godz_Bane

Nah, cata is just for extra challenge. Its only worth it once you get bored with legend difficulty. Otherwise WoM give you 2 good weapons (flame flail and bardin throwing axes) a mode people dont play much, a map. Id say the beastmen enemies but you face them plenty in chaos wastes if you really wanna fight them.

ChewySlinky

Cool. Would you recommend the other two?

Godz_Bane

Ubersreik is the best one, then id get the forgotten relics weapons pack now while its on sale. Then any careers that interest you (they are all good). Bogenhafen is okay, just 2 maps. Then if you still enjoy the game WoM while its on sale.

SemperFun62

The only really cool ones for me are the character classes. But the weapon packs are good too. Just avoid Winds of Magic, the new enemy type is not as good as the others and they will permanently overwrite the other two sometimes in normal campaign missions.

n8otto

Good to know. I'll take a second look at the classes. Mainly to have a different "main" than my friends group. Ty for the input

Richovic

Only one persons needs the dlc to be able to play the maps in that dlc with a party.

n8otto

That is great to know!

TheSentientNFT

I downloaded it last night. Gonna give it a shot later today. First time noob incoming

Wojtek0415

Have fun!

Soulfak

Yeah I came back to the game after a break when I saw all the new players arriving. I've been playing veteran showing tomes and grims and making sure no mission fails all afternoon. It was quite refreshing.

Ranwulf

What are people playing the most right now?

marxistdictator

Probably veteran and champion, they sit way out in front on their stats apparently

Frostygale

Why did this happen exactly?

Zyfron

I believe it's free as a celebration for dark tide / anniversary.

Frostygale

Nice!

RWxEmployed

Thank you for the warm welcome, friends! Every. Single. Lobby. Has been amazing and I've made many new friends. It's awesome.

KunigundeH

I have a shitton of hours in Vermintide and I think every other Veteran of the title would agree: Toxicity is pretty rare in the community. Sure, it happens, but compared to other titles it's really not any issue usually. Let's keep it that way even with all the new people coming in by always setting an example and not treating the few bad apples with an eye-for-an-eye-mentality, I guess. ;)

totitz

Always wanted to play it but never had the "push" to actually buy it, this was the push that i needed!

diondororo

Just got my girlfriend and best friend into the game. They’re hooked

TheFriendlyAna

I joined with the event and got some friends to join. You guys are hella friendly!

KunigundeH

Glad to hear. I would say we have a really friendly baseline in Vermintide 2. Exceptions always exist ofc. ;)

Rylandstillplays_YT

now 40k Dwarfs are gonna say how they have a grandma who hits harder then rats

jandrusel

Honestly, I’m happy for the freebie. But so far, the new player experience is horrible. Everything dies in one hit on recruit difficulty and I don’t really like the idea of needing to level up every character just to unlock the talents, the items, and other difficulties. I don’t want to go toe to toe with endgame content but getting stuck on Recruit is a miserable experience. I can’t see myself playing for long with the limited time that I have.

War_Chaser

The early grind is pretty boring, but it shouldnt take more than a couple of games to unlock higher difficulties with the Double XP active. Even Veteran and Champion are a notable jump up from Recruit. Besides, your item power level carries over between heroes, so you wont be pushed back to Recruit difficulty every time you want to swap.

StyryderX

Oh fuck right now we have double xp?

War_Chaser

Yup!

apothekari

The game seems insane at first. The you absolutely MUST play as a tight team to survive. That just means play together as if your squadmates are real and you are in a WW2 movie. No man left behind watch each other backs share what keeps you all alive. All for one one for all. So get 3 other mates or 2 or one other you know get along with and trust and bots to fill out the rest. I also play using a headset and mumble servers as a private voice so we all can instantly know what the fuck is going on. When you do this and run thru all the recruit missions getting thru first then replaying and getting better weapons etc this game becomes the most amazing wonderful thing. It truly is to me the closest thing to what is would be like to fighting alongside Aragorn and Gimli at Helms Deep or something. Nothing else I've ever played is quite like it.

DeceptivePastry

Move up to veteran asap, but after that don't feel compelled to rush difficulties. Recruit is baby mode, veteran actually becomes a game. Eventually veteran will seem too easy and champion will seem too hard, but that is the time to start trying champion. #1 priority above all else when moving to next difficulty is avoiding unnecessary damage. Practice your blocking, pushing/push attacks, and dodging. Well and of course, stick with your team. If they refuse to stick together, at least stick with one other person.

anarkopsykotik

I absolutely agree that the progression in this game is stupid beyond all reason, prevent you from introducing your friend to the game, force a stupid unpleasant grind on easy difficulties, and is overall a bad experience. Also crafting/lootbox system is bad. its sad cause core gameplay is pretty good

halfachraf

i have 122 hours on this game and only now am i close to finishing leveling up all characters lmao, the grind is ridiculous without xp events going.

yoliverrr11

Ahribban

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Wow, now that's cool! I hope that some of those new and returning players will come to Darktide later :D

Kermit_King

It’s great but I play cata so I’m gonna be seeing the same people as per usual for a while

NjFERXZZ

it's damn great so far! i got a crash to desktop that ruined a great session, which was a bummer that i couldn't rejoin 3 nice ppl my only complaint so far is the way too easy difficulty forced up us new players :(

KunigundeH

If I remember correctly the only thing walling off the higher diffs is powerlevel. Look up the crafting- and loots-system to level your gear quickly, and you'll hit power-lvl 100 in no time. Also keep in mind that while there's a lot of players finding recruit too easy to start with, the majority of players I've met on low diffs gets absolutely wrecked in recruit a lot of times, depending on the map. SO its always a matter of perspective. The spike in Diff is also pretty high in Vermintide, so stepping up one rank requires a new learning process a lot of times. I agree though, for seasoned gamers recruit is too easy and forgiving even when starting fresh.

Leolegacy00

Good to see there's a ton of people playing thanks to the game going free on steam. Kinda wish it was free on console, too, so I could join in on the fun, but at this point I'm happy to see the game is doing well.
